Query Designer BI 7.0 (create variable to capture a pattern like in V3.5)

In V3.5 of query designer you could create a variable to capture a pattern in the characteristic.
How do you do that in V7.0?

    I'm using Query Designer 7.0 ... i need to create one variable...on charecterstic... norma analyser i'm getting normally..
but   in query designer... iwas create the variable.. but i'm unable to take that variable.. because.. in rows and columns.. i'm not getting those variables....
   normally in anayser , select that infoobject and rihght click it and selct restrict... and we can select the variable name..
but in query designer what is the procedure for taking the variables,...

Hi,
have you made the variable as interval or single value.
Becasue you have two options during selecting ther variable...if you have made your variable as interval....... it will not appear in the single value option and vice versa.

How to assign current date/time to a formula variable in Query Designer

How do I assign the current date to a formula variable in Query Designer? I need to use current data in a calculation and just need the date the report was run.

Hi Philip,
There is an SAP formula variable to supply the current date in a formula. I think it is 0F_ADAY...install it from business content if you cannot see it in the query designer (formula box, under formula variables) and try using it.

Unable to Create Instance of Essbase Query Designer

We receive the messages. If we check the addins after we get the messages, query designer is unchecked.The Essbase addin works fine with no issues. Update: is it possible that security rights to the Essbase directory would affect the Query Designer? On a machine that it works on, I've noticed that the "xla" file updates each time it is accessed.

Query Designer: calculate relative revenue

Hi,
I would like to calculate the relative revenue (= revenue / revenue of the biggest market participant) in the BEx Query Designer. I have a key figure "revenue" and my market participant as characteristic.
I first tried to create a formula like "revenue / max(revenue)" but this doesn't work that way in Query Designer. I now tried to solve this with a calculated keyfigure but don't come to a solution.
How can I do a calculation like this in Query Designer?

Create a 'Replacement Path' variable having reference to 'Market Participant' characteristic. Use this variable in your formula and use the Max. function on 'Market Participant' variable.

well i didnt get ut query,which variable u r talkin about,there are so may variables like text variable ,formula variable etc.
Similarly you can create text variable in the desription area, formula variable while creating formula and Hierarchy variable in Hierarchy (Property of Char).
You can also create variables in Condition and Exception but mostly they will be a part of Char variables,
please be clear what are you talking about,then i can help u better.

Query design - Restrictions

Hi Gurus,
2 Questions about query designer,
1.- I am creating several Characteristic Restrictions on the same MaterialID Characteristic, for these restrictions I am using variables in order to be able to use the same selection in another queries, choose in the tab Details the variable to be Optional but when I run the query I can't choose one or another one or not to choose any at all, is like is mandatory to use both, I may be missing something.
2.- When run the query at the top right I can see the option called Show Variable Personalization, how can I create one of those, I guess is like a variable customized by the user.

Question 1 - Can be a Characteristic restriction in a query optional, or the query needs to be executed always with all these filters, and if it can be optional where is the check mark to make it optional.
Yes...its optional...this can be achive through variable..give the character variable user entry as optional...this can be work when user give the value...

Multiprovder objects missing in the Query Designer

Hi,
I have multiprovider based on 2 infosets ( as the reproting is based on master data) .
Later on i have added couple of objects in master data and adjusted the infoset and activated it . The multiprovider also ajusted after adding the fields.
I have activated the multiprovider which is successfully activated, but when i login to Query designer and try to create a query the news objects are missing from the query desinger where as in RSA1 for the Multiprovider it is displayed.. Kindly can anyone will help to resolve this.

I have cehck the infoset invidually , the data dispalyed in both the infosets are according to my requreiment.
When i was checking the multiprovider i did not get the fileds which i have added in the multiprovider , i went back to the structure to cross check, if found this difference for all the ojects when you right click it will display assign identification filed where as for the added obejct it is displaying Change RUN id option.. why this is happening...
This is happen in test server after transprotation where as in dev it is fine and executing properly

Using Query Designer both for 3.5 and 7.0

I have customer A using BW 3.5 and new customer B who will use 7.0.
I need to install Query Designer 7.0 and create reports for customer B.
But I still need to maintain customer A's queries and they were created via QDesigner 3.5.
Since I'll just have QDesigner 7.0 finally, if I use it to edit these 3.5 queries, they won't be editable again via 3.5 Query Designer. Which means they'll seems as corrupt for the customer, since they can't open them with their own query designer (3.5)
I need to reach all queries for all customer systems via their own version of Query Designer.
I wonder what's SAP solution to handle this situation.

You can run both the query Designers on Bi7.0 System.
But, you can not access the same query using the both query designers.

Hi Sabine,
You can look at table entries using Se16. Enter the table name and click the Enter button. Then provide the technical name of the variable in question and click F8

In BW 3.5 i used to develop queries in query designer and used to create iview ....generate URL for that query
Later used to send that URL for the business user to execute the query which is in development system...for any formating changes he need

I think this is more to do with your windows settings.
Query designer invokes the default browser which is IE. If you set Firefox as ur default browser in your system, the query should open in Firefox.

it's possible customize the number of columns and rows that are displayed on a web report created with the query design?
My report (created with the query design) display only four columns and for visualize the other I need to use the scroll bar

Hi,
you mean, when you execute the query in the web browser? this is the setting of the standard webtemplate.
Create your own webtemplate with the web application designer. There you can change this option.

Exceptions in Query designer

Hello experts,
I have a basic doubt on Exceptions in the Query designer.
Say I create an exception which says any value between 1 and 10 is good and should have a certain color and another exception on the same key figure which says that values between 8 and 12 are bad and denote with a different color.
Now I get a value 0f 9 for my Kf then how does BI process the exception?

You have to make exception for values 1-10 as per the requirement.
and starting from 11-12 give another with diff color and notation. Like wise it's better to identify.

How to create a variable in Bex Query Designer

Hi guys,
I am writing a query for a travel management report using the SAP Standard cube. I would like to restrict the query so it only shows me the last two months excluding the current month. I have checked BI content in RSA1, but I canu2019t find a relevant SAP standard variable that I can use.
Can anyone please tell me if I can create my own? And if so, how I can do this.

lets say u want to display following picture:
sept$-----august$
City
-chicago123$--
44$
so in Query designer go to Default values section.
Bring in Calendar month
right click calendar month
and hit Restrict
now select variable
use standard sap variable Current Month.
hit okey
now select Variable and hit Red button
Result u restricted current month.
in columns bring in keyfigure $
right click and hit edit
bring in time field calendar month
right click and hit restrict
bring in Current month
right click and select - SET OFFSET FOR VARIABLE
select -1
hit okey
repeat the above process
and this time select offset = -2
this way u restricted current month
but displayed last 2 months for keyfigure values.

Creating Restrictions in BEx query designer for (1-a), where a is variable.

My requirement is that I want to have " 1-fiscal year"., But this I could not define using offset variables, since using offset we can define "fiscal year +1" or "fiscal year -1".
So there would be some other way to define "1-fiscalyear". So Please help me to define "1-fiscalyear" by giving me the steps.
