Query in ESS

Dear Experts,
I have implemented ESS for India and I need to implement ESS for US now. I know that there are functionalities such as Employee Benefits and personal information are different for countries. My question is, is it possible for implement to ESS for different countries using the same role so that when an user login he should be able to see US based functionalities in ESS ? or Should I need to copy the role structre of ESS and implement the functionalities related to US?

I have query again. I logged into the backend system and changed the userid's personal details in the path system -> user profile -> Own data -> Parameters -> Variant and Molga. I am able to view salary slip and Time statements related to US. Is this the only setting required in the backend or Do I need to some more configurations at SPRO level?

Integrate Sap Query into ESS and MSS

for the intergration of SAP Query.
However i am getting stuck at step 6 as it appears RP_MSS_CONVERT_MDT_TO_LPD_CUST
does not exist and ideas what i am missing.
So i have had to convert my MDT scenario using PWPC_CONV_MDT_TO_LPA
From there i have then been able to run program APB_LPD_LPA_CUST_TO_LPD_CUST
which has converted it into a launchpad in LPD_CUST, however once there it has no system alias defined for my applications so they won't launch and the launchpad entries for managers desktop don't give me a system alias option.

Hi Adam,
what release are you on? Do you use any Add-ons? The document you are following is written for EHP6, and I think MSS Add-On 1.0 is also needed as this add-on brings the WD ABAP applications for MSS.
The report you don't have in your system is located in the WDA specific package for MSS, so I think it comes with the Add-on. The transaction you use for launchpad generation is the "old" one, that can be used from Enterprise Portal. Inside portal, you have a launchpad iView with properties for the scenario and the system alias.
Do you have a possibility to install MSS Add-On 1.0? This should solve your problem and let you follow the guide.

My customer is planning to implement Compensation module on ESS.
Can any one pls through some light or links or information what all the activities to be as a ESS/MSS consultant while implementing Compensation management.
Also what are all the skills are prerequisites for implementing compensation on Portal.

Hi Vijay, Compensation (CM) module is currently not supported, so i think you will go for ECM (Enterprise Compensation Management).
In ESS Customizing (SPRO tx), you have just the salary statement config (some people consider the salary statement as part of ECM), and of course, the custom to add new services to your areas.
Generally in the ECM projects, ECM Consultants are involved, since a lot of knowledge plus experience is required.
The customizing for ECM in ERP side and also in Portal side is done in:
Personnel Management > Enterprise Compensation Management
For example, you configure the Total Compensation Statement in Personnel Management > Enterprise Compensation Management > Compensation Statements.
Just a little part (define annual salary) is done in:
Integration with Other mySAP.com Components > Business Packages / Functional Packages > Manager Self-Service (mySAP ERP) > Employee Data
Anyway, you can start checking the basical config for Compensation Planning (MSS) in this doc.

WD Exception when pointing ESS Travel & Expense to multiple backend systems

Hi All,
I have a query regarding ESS Travel Management pointing to multiple backend systems.
ESS MSS is installed on a single portal(Portal1).
ESS MSS is currently pointing to Backend System1. The requirement is that ESS Travel from Portal1 should point to various multiple Backend Systems therefore making ESS Travel region-specific.
Is this possible? and if so what are the pros and cons?
This is what I have attempted:
1. Followed the documentation from "Multiple Back End Support for the Adaptive RFC Model" [http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/en/af/84a34098022a54e10000000a1550b0/frameset.htm]
Therefore, I created 2 JCOs namely: SAP_R3_Travel_R1 and SAP_R3_Travel_MetaData_R1 pointing to Backend Sytem 2. SSO and JCO tests successfully.
2. On the iview properties for ESS Travel & Expenses, I added the following to the Application Parameters: sap-wd-arfc-useSys=SAP_R3_Travel:_R1&sap-wd-arfc-useSys=SAP_R3_Travel_MetaData:_R1
3. I additionally created a system in the Portal under System Configuration pointing to Backend System2 and adding the SAP_R3_Travel_R1 as the default System Alias. Do I need to add SAP_ITS_XSS and SAP_WebDynpro_XSS system alias, if so how since it is seeing as redundant because it is added in the system I created for Backend System1.
4. I then tested one of the ESS Travel & Expenses iviews. I have the following error:
Accessing System XYZ is not possible because RFC Metadata was retrieved using System ABC. Please assure you have configured the RFC Connections properly. A Server restart may be necessary!

Add PERNR fieldTo Who's Who Search on ESS

Hi
I need to know how do I add a Search field -PERNR to who's who Infoset Query on ESS. I would also like to know how do I delete certain fields from Selection fields.

Does the infoset not have PERNR available? If so, no need to change infoset. (We use a different one for other reasons).
Go to transaction PZ01C.
Bottom part shows available fields in infoset. Check for PERNR.
Add the wanted field (I belieav it would be P0001-PERNR) to selection fields.

Smartforms and webforms.

hi All,
I am a R/3 programmer and i am assigned a query of ESS which is developed in BSP and HTMLB. There is a smartform and that is not picking up the values properly so i m asked to sort that problem out. Basically they have designed the form such a way that once i go to that page and that i push the 'Print' button, the output of the form comes straight in the pdf format. Now generally there is a call 'SSF_FUNCTION_MODULE_NAME' to call the form in abap, is it the same in BSP??
also if it is so i did not see the call in my forms. So is it possible to conver the OTF straight to PDF without calling the smartform . I knw its confusing but i have tried to put it as clear as i can.
please ask me further questions if u feel the need.

Yes calling smart form in BSP is same like in ABPA. Yes you can convert the smartform output into PDF from SPOOL output into OTF. But you need to call the FM to generate the OTF data.
To call smartforms: you can use FM 'SSF_FUNCTION_MODULE_NAME' " or you can generate the FM from smartforms then you can use that. Here is the sample code to call the smartforms & covert into PDF.

did you check wheather there is any javascript they are using as the inteface between ABAP and BSP page ?

ADD new fields Who's WHo

Im trying to add new fields to Advanced search in WHO's Who settings which are customs fields Z from infotype 1008; I customized new infoset copy from standard adding this infotype, but im getting error when i run de query on ESS, anyway Who's who don't Show fields from infotype 1008 on output field details, Anybody Knows How I can add custom fields in Who's who infoset and how the hell can I read infotype 1008 from infoset on PCH DataBase?

Hi,
Here is the catch, when you add the custom infotype make sure it has the primary key same as other infotypes used in the Query.
For example make Pernr as the primary key in the custom infotype.
I tried the same in our landscape and it worked fine.
The steps I did are as below:
In SQ02 - EDIT - Change Info-Type Selection - Add the Custom Infotype to the Query
In SQ03 created a custom user group and assigned Infoset to the User Group.
In SQ01 create the query and click on Change - From the top selected Basic List and added the fields which I want to see in list and also the selection criteria.
Once done with this execute the Query and see if the data is populated from the Custom Infotype.
There is no coding needed to populate the data.
Make sure the join is right and it should get the data. And the above link shows how to include the Custom Info-type fields in WHO'S WHO search.

ESS license query

We have an ECC user who do not require ESS and another ESS user who do not require ECC. Can we use the license of the first person to account for the second person's ESS license.?

ESS Technical system query

Hi,
We are trying to implement ESS on EP7 SP11 and ECC 6.0 system. In the SLD while creating the Technical ABAP system in the last step to select the Installed products i can find only ECC 5.0 listed but ECC 6.0 is not listed.
I had imported the latest CR_Content as per note 669669. Is there anything else i need to import to see the ECC 6.0 in the list ?

We also faced the same problem while creating ABAP system in SLD. We select the ECC 5 and it works fine..don't worry use that. At the last step it gives an error but close it..we have same system config as you...so carry on..

Query on importing ESS codes into NWDI

I am having problems with importing ESS "600 Level 9 Update ERP05PAR.06281307" codes into NWDI.
I can successfully import the dependent SCA of ESS into NWDI's Development tab: EP_BUILDT, SAP-JEE, SAP_BUILDT, SAP_JTECHS, and SAPPCUI_GP.
They are now gone from the Development tab and appears in Consolidation tab.
I am left with the ESS SCA remaining the Development tab.
When I try to import I got all sorts of errors from the CBS build, the last one is:

In the CBS log, this is the excerpt on the error that happened:

ERROR: The build-process has terminated without a valid build result. The reasons could be (a) The build time may have exceeded the build timeout value or (b) There could be problems with the build-settings or (c) the process was externally terminated. Please contact the CBS administrator.

Change request state from PROCESSING to FAILED

Also I notice that my SCA for ESS is ESS 600 Level 9 Update while in the SLD>Software Catalog, the entry for ESS 600's Support Packages tab only list up to "Support Package 8 of SAP_ESS, 600". There is no SP 9.
Could this be the cause of all my woes?

Hi,
if a CBS build fails with a "severe SYSTEM PROBLEM" then there's something really wrong. Import of used SCAs is not a problem since there's nothing to build, but this error message means that CBS is trying to build something and fails. System problem could indicate memory problems or maybe just an incorrectly configured JDK.
If nothing is obviously wrong check the log viewer if there are perhaps some more details logged or try to disable cleanUpRequestFolders in the CBS service properties and check in the filesystem under the CBS rootFolder if there are log files that give additional information.
CBS does not really care about SP levels, the difference between SP8 and SP9 is completely is irrelevant for building. (Unless you import "mixed" SCAs and get compile errors).

I wanted to check out the licencing issues with ESS/ MSS. I wanted to know if i have to take equivalent number of licences to the number of employees accessing the ESS options .

Can't see the ESS Additional Personal Data link within Personal Information

Hi All,
For some reasons, I can not see the Additional Personal Data link within the ESS Personal Information iView. I have checked the Homepage framework and the existence of the iView in the PCD and everything appears to be fine.
Do I need to assign any additional infotype to my id or give myself specific authorisations to see this link?
I would really appreciate if you could provide an answer to my query.

Hi,
I think mostly you have maintained the data in PA30 Transaction and had data in Info type 0105.
After this try to check with your EA-HR patch and SAP HR patch in the services. If both are not maintained at the same patch levels such type of problems will occur.
