Query - JDI Template Configuration Tool...Please guide

Hello All,
Am working on 04 version and have finished installing & configuration of basic NWDI components.
There is an additional configuration of 'Template Configuration Tool'
And as far as I read...its use is into administration and not development.
Questions:
1. Can I skip this configuration? The installation doc does not mention it as optional or mandatory though.
2. What could be the implications if I skip this step?
3. The description says this tool provides a framework to NetWeaver components to create their own configuration templates.
Please give me some examples to understand this better.

5.1 Template Configuration Tool
Purpose
This component is a tool for configuring the J2EE Engine and the SAP NetWeaver
components running on top of it. To configure the system properly, the Template
Configuration Tool uses specially designed templates for each component.
You can find the latest information about the Template Configuration Tool and
the related configuration templates in SAP Note 739788.
Implementation Considerations
The installation procedure of the J2EE Engine and the SAP NetWeaver components provides the system with a default configuration. You can run the system using the initial configuration;however, this does not guarantee that the available resources are utilized optimally or that the system will function properly. Using the Template Configuration Tool and the templates provided by each component, you can easily adjust the infrastructure to the particular needs of the scenario that you are running. Therefore, we recommend that you run the Template Configuration Tool after installing the J2EE Engine.
The Template Configuration Tool is run only once for each server instance. If
you expand the cluster vertically later on by adding new instances to it, you
should run the tool on each new instance, so that all instances in the cluster
are configured in the same way.
Integration
While the Template Configuration Tool provides the framework for processing the templates, each SAP NetWeaver component provides its specific template.
Features
The Template Configuration Tool is the framework that enables other SAP NetWeaver
components to create their own configuration templates. You can use the tool to apply and restore a particular system configuration.
You can choose to apply the appropriate configuration templates depending on your
particular scenario. For example, you may choose to apply a template for an Enterprise Portal scenario where you have a portal running on top of the J2EE Engine. Note that this may influence not just the configuration of the component itself, but also the settings of the J2EE Engine.
The tool is instance-based that is, it configures the J2EE Engine based on the available hardware resources on a particular host, as well as some additional settings such as allocated memory. This means that you must run the tool separately for each Java instance that you have installed.
The Template Configuration Tool is designed to automatically detect most of the parameters that are used to define the configuration of the system. The tool provides wizards that guide you through the process of choosing which function you want to use, selecting the appropriate templates, and filling in the required parameters.

Have used javascript statements which automatically redirects 'http' requests to 'https'
I found this SAP Note# 609955 which talks about switching off the client certificate authentication.
We are in the process of getting the certificates trusted and in the meantime I thought that following the above steps would be a good option to hide the certificate prompt from end users but when I checked in the portal, the steps given in the SAP Note are all done including the radio button enabling - Do Not Select Client Certificate.
In which scenario this SAP Note used then?
Please help me clear the confusion.

Installation of JDI on 2004s Sneak Preview..Please guide :)

Am trying to install/configure JDI on 2004s Sneak Preview.
Have few questions like:
1. Id read in a SAP article that NWDI/JDI gets installed along with the real/full package of NW2004s. So is this case not applicable in 2004s sneak preview?
2. Can you please send me a document which shows as to how can I configure or install JDI/NWDI onto SAP NW2004s SPS 7 Sneak Preview.
3. Id found one document saying "How to install JWDI for CAF/GP Development'. I was executing the steps as mentioned in this document but most of the items in the drop-down list are different + there are enabled buttons as Install & Post Installation under Guided Areas, so should I go in for Install first or jump to Post Installation directly?

I did all the steps as mentioned in the doc (ud sent the link for) but the Template Configuration gave me few errors while creation of SC and two more other errors.
They were related to those 3 .sca files...saying they were not found while DI Configuration.
Question:
1. If the NWDI is installated along with the Sneak Preview, then why did the server not find those required /sca files?
2. How do I test the working on SAP NWDI?
3. Is there some doc which exlains the use & working of NWDI?
4. How can NWDI be used in case of XI? Id read it on help.sap.com that using CMS, XI objects can be imported into NWDI & then used further...usin the XI Templates.
What else can be done from XI perspective?

Need to add new column in SAP Query - Please guide me in this regard

In SAP Query, I need to put a new coulmn of each record for the difference of Billing date and PGI date as a work days.
eg: Billing Date = 02.05.2008
PGI Date = 08.05.2008
Take a Variable i.e. Days = Billing Date - PGI Date that will display as 5 days by excluding Saturday and Sunday.
After doing calculation of these work days for each record, we need a to add a new coulmn in that record as field lable as "Work Days" and display.
Please Guide me in this regard

Hi Rama,
In SQ01 when you are in the fields (first would be attributes, when you click next it takes you to field groups, and again when you click next if takes you to fields tab) check the following menu path
EDIT -> LOCAL FIELD -> CREATE
You can define the formula as per your requirement and populate the field.

SALT Configuration Tool - Guide document

Hello
Is there some guide to use SALT configuration tool, I have the following issue :
I already configured with the discovery feature some Tuxedo services and are working ok invoking them as a WS, but now I did the same to add one more service and the discovery feature could not discover the service I reviewed everything, and I could not find what is wrong.
I am using FML32 in all cases.
Something to consider:
-that sometimes I got a message in the ulog, but is not a catalog message is jus "cannot open file".
Maybe there is a Document Guide to use this tool? or somthing like that ,

Ramiro,
the "cannot open file" message is a bug, harmless you can ignore it.
The configuration tool is self-documented, actually, in the main page you can click on the sentences to expand the functions available in the tool. If the information you are looking for is not in there let us know here.
Regarding your issue, for service discovery to work the service has to be called, make sure that it is the case. If you have done that and still don't see a new service after refreshing the page (F5), it's possibly because it's already there... If the service is the same Tuxedo service and payload, the discovery feature will not create a new entry.

I have successfully created the File System Repository, connecting a folder on my windows 2000 machine to an EP (Netweaver 2004s) KM, following the steps like:
1. Creation of Windows System
2. Network Path since the server and my machine are seperate systems
3. Creation of the File System Repository.
You may refer to the above steps in detail using <a href="http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw2004s/helpdata/en/e3/92322ab24e11d5993800508b6b8b11/frameset.htm">link</a>
Question:
1. After the successful creation, I deleted the Windows system created, but the File System Repository was still working all fine. Why so? Shouldn't this throw me an exception?
2. While creation of the Windows System, I entered the ID and Desription.
In the Network Paths, I entered the folder's name (folder which is on my machine/which is to mapped) & my machine's username + password.
Then how does the system/server know which windows system is to be mapped for the netwrok path?
In other words, what is the mapping betweeen the Network path & Windows system?
3. If you access the above link, there is a step of creating a System in the Portal System Landscape. What is the need to do this? Can you please explain......
Why create a PCD System object, System Alias, etc....
Would appreciate if you please help me understand this concept.....

For a NW04s studio these paths are not correct, the plugin directories have some version suffix.

How to handle a phrase like a single word in a query rewrite template?

i would like to handle a case like this:
"hewlett packard" printer
I have a custom thesaurus where {hewlett packard} is a synonym of {hp}, and viceversa of course.
Now, i can successfully find records like "hp printer" or "printer model hp 2575 "by issuing the following query:
select * from sale_items
where contains(item_name,
'SYN(hewlett packard,cust_thes) AND printer')>0
or its equivalent form containing curly braces:
select * from sale_items
where contains(item_name,
'SYN({hewlett packard},cust_thes) AND printer')>0
My problem is that i can't find a way of successfully passing the phrase "hewlett packard" as a single word in a query rewrite template like this one:

The same happens if i substitute curly braces with double quotes.
So, how to get phrases to be recognized in the query rewrite template?

I am unable to find out a way to search on the particular phrase like I have a document containing the text
“Oracle Text is a good searching tool.” Now if searches for the phrase “searching tool”, it doesn’t return any rows but if I search for “searching” and “tool” in 2 separate queries, it gives the document.
If any one has done it before, please tell me the solution.
I have used the following queries to create index on BLOB column:-

Query/web template coming up blank in the portal

Hi,
I got one requirement saying that query/web template coming up blank in the portal.I have checked in portal it is blank.
I don't have much knowledge about portal. I am not able to find this query name in the SAP gui(dev,q prod).can we publish the query with out creating in BEx .I don't understand can you please help me to resolve ths issue.

Finally i came to know that the base query and one of the view is not populating the data in portal other views are populating the data.the views are created based on region(usa,europe..etc).I have executed this view and base query in BEx I am getting the error "internal error receiving from the bw serverfailed bw server raised exception:SYSTEM_ FAILURE. I think due to that the data is not populating in th portal. Please let me know how to resolve this issue.

According to your description, you are creating a SQL Server Reporting Services report using SSAS cube as the data source, there are 40 parameters in the MDX query, so the performance is poor, right?
In your scenario, you said that 10 of the parameters using existing function, so you suspect that the issue can be caused by the existing function. Based on my research, it seems that the existing function is not a problem. Only issue is that use existing

In additional, I'd suggest you enable SQL profiler to monitor the queries fired by the query, once you find some queries took a very long time to run, consider creating the smaller cube partition or optimizing the query by adding index or partition
