Query: MacOS 10.5.3 update, Quicktime and mp4

Hi, this maybe a 'stupid' question but I'll ask anyway.
Earlier this 2008 I recall the Quicktime 7.4 update having problems playing mp4 files, and I ended up downgrading back to Quicktime 7.2 (using Pacifist) to solve my problem. Ever since then, I've been reluctant to apply successive Leopard OS X system updates for fear of Quicktime 7.2 being upgraded again, and so running into mp4 problems again. My question is: with Apple's most recent 10.5.3 update, I assume it updates Quicktime (to what version?) and is it OK with mp4 files?
Fox27!

Ahhh! Thank you, Fox!
PS: error in original post: I'm using QuickTime 7.3.1 (not 7.2)

Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from the following page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
To install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

  • HT1338 OSX 10.4.11 update quicktime. Browser says out of date. Updater says up-to-date. Is this version no longer supported. How to update QuickTime and Java then?

OSX 10.4.11 Updates to QuickTime and Java.
Browser says out of date. Updater says up-to-date. Is this version no longer supported?
How can I update QuickTime and Java then without upgarding? I wish to keep a back channel to OS9

Mac OS X Tiger was discontinued years ago, and if Software Update doesn't detect any new update, it's because you are running the latest Java and QuickTime version for Tiger.
Apart from that, I see that you have a G5, so the most recent Mac OS X version you can use is Mac OS X Leopard, another version that it's (or it's going to be) discontinued soon. PowerPC support is completely dead now, and if you want the most recent QuickTime and Java versions, you will need a Intel-based Mac with OS X Lion or Mountain Lion, that have got the latest Java 6 versions and they are compatible with Java 7

  • Missing iCal calenders after updating Quicktime and iTunes

    Hi Mylenium:
Just as an additional info, when I stated "Apple Forum" I was referring to a suggestion made and publish there by one of the Apple Support guys.
Thanks for your suggestions. As I stated before, I put the DLL back to the "original" folder, re-started the sytems but I am still getting the AE error regarding a "missing entry on the SQLite3.dll".
After putting back such file to the original folder now I am getting the "same inital error" I got after the update ONLY in iTunes. I have not dare to move anything with my iPod yet. I do not want the whole thing to become worst that already is.
In regards to your nest suggestion  "...Another thing I can think of is that you might actually need to unregister the DLL via regsrv, then re-register it somehow to re-establish the proper hooks. Still, quite odd....."..
I wonder if you cand provide me with the necessary steps to attempt this. I have no experience working/fixing DLL's.
    Thanks and regards,

  • Can't Update QuickTime and iPhoto

When attempting to download and install the latest version of QuickTime and iPhoto via Software Update, I got the error message, "None of the checked updates could be saved. You do not have appropriate access privileges." I have two User Accounts on this Mac, both are Admin accounts, and I've tried updating from both accounts. I've repaired privileges via Disk Utility. Why can't I download these updates?

Same issue with the QT 7.3 update, I get this message...
The update “QuickTime” can’t be saved.
You do not have appropriate access privileges.
The Installer package has been moved to the Trash. To try again, open the package from the Finder.
Tried repairing permissions with disk utility, it ran with a few warnings and 3 unexpected ACLs on the private/var/root dirs, but that did not help.
Had keychain problems when I did the Leopard upgrade, had to reset the root password to fix. Wondering if the problematic Leopard upgrade did some other damage?

  • Script to query OU for last Windows update date and time

  • Updating Quicktime and iTunes changes the time to 7:08pm... everywhere!

Sorry if this should go in another section but I think it's relevant to Leopard usage.
Just upgraded iTunes and Quicktime from Software Updates and repaired permissions. Now all I get in every folder and Mail message a time of 7:08pm even if I re-save a file. Only the day changes but not the time. It's literally stuck on 7:08pm. Even Time Machine has it all the way back for 2 weeks!
Has anyone come across this after applying these updates?

This was a problem due to my extremely small brain folks. Sorry.
I'd adjusted the International setting in the time format preferences to 7:08 and it, of course, changed everything. Changed it back to the default and, bingo, it's fine now.
I'm not touching anything else! The last thing Leopard needs is a scaremonger at the moment.

  • Audio Sync Issues in with Quicktime and MP4

    Hey all,
Strange issue.  When I play the files via Quicktime on my computer, the audio is in perfect sync.  When I import into Premiere, the audio is about 6 frames late in the source and when dropped on the timeline.  I have the latest version...not sure why this happens.  It usually happens on clips that are more than a few minutes long, like the audio is 100.01% faster than the video and gradually gets more and more off sync later into the movie.
Any suggestions?  I haven't found any similar problems online so I'm assuming I'm doing something wrong?
    Thanks!!

I am dissapointed to see that no one has addressed this issue. I have similar issues.
The MP4's play perfectly in the quicktime player but in Premiere they are off by varying degrees sometimes up to a minute even. I had similar problems in the past with files from the same producer. However last time I was able to  change the extension before importing and then sync them up manually on the timeline. It worked everytime. This time however when I change the extension Premiere brings it in as an audio only file.

    To Apple Discussions!
How much HD space do you have left?
Not sure if this matters but, make sure your HD is Journaled.
Repair permissions & then restart your computer.

  • Can't update QuickTime - 1402 on HKEY_LOCAL... \QuickTimePreferences

I need to update QuickTime and Itunes but keep getting an error on installing the QuickTime 7 "1402 error: could not open key HKEYLOCALMACHINE\Software\Classes\QuickTimePreferences.
I've tried to use REGEDIT to edit the permissions on the quicktime keys but that doesn't work. I get a message telling me I can't open the key or change permissions. Also, all user accounts on this PC are setup as administrator and I've tried to edit these keys from multiple accounts. All attempts generate the same error.
Also, if I just go to the Control Panel - Add or Remove Programs and try to remove Quicktime, I get the same 1402 error, followed by a 1603 error.
I've already spent 3 evenings on this. I've read the advice, but it doesn't seem to work for me.
Now I have to get this fixed. My old IPOD died and the new one won't run on the older version of Itunes.
    Pls help.

Also, all user accounts on this PC are setup as administrator and I've tried to edit these keys from multiple accounts. All attempts generate the same error.+
That sounds like there's a problem with the access control lists on those keys.
Somewhat experimental advice in this context (I usually give it in cases where there's a recalcitrant 1402-like problem with CLSID keys on a QuickTime install) ... but it may be worth trying the procedure from the following weblog:
Aaron Stebner's WebLog: Solving setup errors by using the SubInACL tool to repair file and registry permissions
(I've seen it fix permissions before in cases where the permissions couldn't be touched using regedit, which is why I'm thinking it may be worth a crack with your problem.)

when i try to update itunes and quicktime, it stops me and says " The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable" please help.

Before trying the update again, use Microsoft's Fix it solution at http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall. Use it to uninstall iTunes and Quicktime. It bypasses this not uncommon problem. When the solution finishes, the selected program will be uninstalled. It can take several minutes and I have seen as much as half an hour.
After iTunes & Quicktime are uninstalled, try the update again.

  • Exception processing message 0xc0000013 after updating itunes and Quicktime

After updating itunes and Quicktime, every time I remove a CD from my DVD drives I get an error saying no disk exception processing message 0xc0000013 Parameters 0x759f023c 0x87f51934 0x759f023c 0x759f023c.
I tried doing a restore to a time before that update and that didn't seem to help. It just gave me different parameters.
I'm using Windows Vista and this is driving me nuts.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I also have the same problems as you guys after installing Corel Painshop Pro X12. I went into the task list and stop the CorelIOMonitor process and then the problem went away. I found out that you can disable this from starting up using System Configuration tool via Start -> Run -> msconfig
. It's an interm solution untell they fix it. Maybe someone needs to notify Corel or Apple to fix this problem.

  • IMac G5 freezes on start up after ITunes, Quicktime and Security update

On June 2nd, the following event occurred on my IMac G5 (model year 2005) equipped Mac OS 10.4.9
Upon completion of the automatic update for Itunes, Quicktime and a security update, the computer restarted.
However, the start-up sequence freezes on a grey screen with the logo for the power button displayed in the middle and a message inviting to hold down the poer button down for 5 sec to re-start.
the only way to complete the start up sequence is to hold down the apple key while pressing the power button.
Does anyone have any suggestions to regain control of my computer ?thank you in advance.

Welcome to Discussions - Hopefully, you repaired permissions both before and after updating, if not, it might be a good thing to do now. Also, you are not alone in having problems with the update, take a look at this.
Generally, it's better to install updates one by one, so that if you have problems, you know which one caused them.
