Query on bounce back

Hi,
I a multi wave campaign, I see that the contacts having an invalid email address, ie. either a soft or hard bounce, get the wave 1 email, but get stuck up in later waves.
I expected the hard bounce contacts to be held in the fist email step itself, but I believe they don't get held since there is some delay in getting the bounce back status from the receiving ISP.
Is that the case?
Secondly, do the soft bounce contacts get held in the email step?
Aditya

Hi Aditya,
Soft bounces do not prevent email sends. What you are most likely seeing is that an email send action was successfully attempted to the contact on the first wave because they did not have a hard bounceback status at the time they entered. This would allow them to leave the email send step and continue on to the rest of the campaign.
However, despite the send action being successfully attempted, the receiving mailserver rejected the message due to some reason (filter, invalid, blocked, etc). Only now would the contact have a hard bounce status, and further email sends on the campaign canvas will be prevented or blocked - meaning that the send action is not even attempted. For these contacts, you have the option to route them to another step on the campaign canvas, such as an "Add to shared list" or even a wait step, which will put them in an error group for later review.
Best regards,
Bojan

    Do any of you know what I need to create on the TXT record for the DNS? I've created an SPF record but still get an error message.

    This just started happening out of the blue. I have been using the current configuration for a couple years.
    Any insight?

  • Weird Bounce-back of an email address that is not even in my contacts!

    Hey folks,
    Recently I have been getting a bounced back email from an address that is not even in my contacts (I use outlook). It's only when I send an email to a particular person. She gets the email, but I get this bounce back from a SIMILAR email. It is annoying, and confounding.
    I have scanned my laptop regularly with updated McAfee and Spybot, and have found nothing. I am using Vista Home and it is all updated as well.
    Thanks!
    Jim

    If the message is being received and you are only sending to a single address on the sending line, then I would say the error is likely on the receiver's end (maybe they have a forward setup to the bogus address?).  If you could include the full headers (email addresses redacted) of the message which is bouncing back, maybe someone here can spot something and suggest something further.

  • Zipeg and limewire no longer functioning (both bounced back).

    Greetings,
    Zipeg and limewire are no longer functioning on my mac (limewire first, about 3 weeks ago). In fact, i've tried to re-downloaded both softwares but the applications will only bounce back and not functioning. Previously (2 months ago), i have a same problem with MacDJView. Any idea what's wrong with my mac?
    Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

    Hello n_n:
    Some programs will not run if they are located outside of the "/Applications" directory on the
    boot volume. I have Zipeg, but I don't have the other programs you use, so I don't know
    if they will run on your second partition. My Zipeg install is on my boot drive, I've never
    tried to run it on my data partition. I, like you, do have programs located on a second partition,
    and every now and then I try to install one there and it will refuse to run, if it does refuse to run,
    I go ahead and install it on the boot volume, however the majority of apps don't care where they
    are installed.
    Did you just install these apps or have they been working and just decided to quit?

  • Use an SQL Query in a backing bean

    hi,
    I like to know how to run an SQL query in a backing bean method, this being the code I tried , his goal is to fill the field "cin" with data coming from my database, here is the Code:
    public String cb2_action() {
    BindingContainer bindings = getBindings();
    OperationBinding operationBinding = bindings.getOperationBinding("CreateInsert");
    Object result = operationBinding.execute();
    if (!operationBinding.getErrors().isEmpty()) {
    return null;
    DCIteratorBinding dciter =(DCIteratorBinding) bindings.get("PersonneView1Iterator");
    Row row=dciter.getCurrentRow();
    Statement stmt = this.getDBTransaction().createStatement(1);
    try {
    ResultSet rs = stmt.executeQuery("select max(cin) from personne");
    while( rs.next() ){
    row.setAttribute("cin", rs.getInt(1)+1);
    } catch (SQLException ex) {
    ex.printStackTrace();
    return "go";
    at run time it give an error at this line : Statement stmt = this.getDBTransaction().createStatement(1);
    please check and correct me
    thanks in advance

    Hi,
    Initially I would like to say that this should not be used if you are trying to get a PrimaryKey as it would cause serious concurrency issues.
    For example lets say that you want whenever you create a new Employee to set his DepartmentId equal to the max department.
    We could create a readOnly VO (lets name it MaxDepartmentId) with a query that returns the max departmentId:
    select max(Department_Id) as maxDep from DepartmentsAfter that we need to add the MaxDepartmentId VO as a ViewAccessor in our Employees Vo,
    override the create() method in the EmployeesRowImpl and add some code like this:
    public class EmployeesRowImpl extends ViewRowImpl {
        @Override
        protected void create(AttributeList attributeList) {
            Row r=getMaxDepartmentId().first();
            if(r!=null){
                 Number max=(Number)r.getAttribute("Maxdep");
                 attributeList.setAttribute("DepartmentId", max);
            super.create(attributeList);
    }That's all.
    If you run this you will see that when you create a new employee it has a default value.
    Gabriel.

    That sounds like a compatibility issue with an add-on that you have installed, as reported by a number of users in both Firefox 22 and Firefox 23 over the last couple of months. If you would provide a listing of your installed extensions ''(as you were prompted to do when creating this thread)'' maybe one of us can advise you which extension is the mot likely culprit. You will need to re-install Firefox 23 to do further diagnostic testing.
    As far as the compatibility of Firefox 23 and Win XP SP3, Mozilla has verified they are compatible and not one user ''(including me on two separate PC's)'' has reported a problem with compatibility.

  • Web Gallery photos bouncing back

    When sending photos from the iPhone to a Web Gallery, the message bounces back with this error:
    Relaying denied, try authenticating.
    I was under the impression that in order for a Web Gallery to show up on the iPhone, I had to be logged in correctly to my .mac account to begin with.
    It's also worth mentioning that the Web Galleries created within iPhoto do not appear on the iPhone (Web Gallery Albums view) and vice versa. However, they all appear on the web via Safari.
    Any suggestions?

  • AOL mail bounce back

    I am getting bounce backs from any mail sent to an AOL account. The mail will go through if I log onto my mailbox at my ISP provider (Optimum Online). The bounce back has this message:
    Reason: SMTP transmission failure has occurred
    Diagnostic code: smtp;554-: (ISP:B2) http://postmaster.info.aol.com/errors/554ispb2.html TRANSACTION FAILED
    Remote system: dns;mailin-01.mx.aol.com (TCP|167.206.4.199|54475|205.188.156.185|25) (rly-ya06.mx.aol.com ESMTP mailrelayin-ya6.5; Thu, 31 May 2007 10:17:46 -0400)
    If I go to the aol link in the message I get this explanation;
    554 ISP:B2
    http://postmaster.info.aol.com/errors/554ispb2.html
    EXPLANATION:
    Your IP address has generated a high volume of mail to AOL which exceeded our rate limit or has generated AOL member complaints. Possible causes include a compromised or virus-infected personal computer or a non-disclosed server relaying mail within the ISP's network. Note, this block is automatically removed within 24 hours.
    SOLUTION:
    The IP address in question is not the connecting MTA, but is commonly the originating IP. If your originating IP is static and has valid and meaningful reverse DNS, then please contact us with that IP. If you are not sure what your originating IP address is or if you are unsure as to whether your originating IP is dynamic or static, please contact your ISP for further information regarding your type of service.
    If you are sending large volumes of mail from a dynamic IP address, please contact your ISP and inquire about purchasing a static IP or business class IP address. Furthermore you can attempt to reduce the amount of email recipients sent during one session. If you are sending to a mailing list you should verify that the recipients on your list are still interested in receiving your email.
    If you did not send an extraordinary amount of email, we recommend scanning your computer or network for viruses and malicious applications.
    If you are an ISP receiving this error from an excessive number of your customers you may have an undisclosed proxy or relay on your network. Please contact us to resolve this issue.
    I am not sending high volumes of mail to AOL unless one or two emails a day is large. This is a recent problem. Has anyone experienced this or does someone have a solution? My ISP says there is nothing they can do on their end and AOL won't talk to you unless you have a paid account.
    Dan

    AOL's explanation per the link provided covers your options.
    * You contacted your ISP which indicated there is nothing they can do or there is nothing they are willing to do in your behalf.
    * You are not sending high volumes of mail to AOL.
    * You can scan your Mac for viruses and malware which can't hurt but will be a waste of time in this situation.
    This leaves contacting AOL. Other than that, wait until the 24 hour block period has expired.

  • Emails are not going out to everyone, only select people, everyone else gets blocked or bounce backs

    I have a client who uses Business Catalyst and they're having a problem with emails only going out to certain people and not everyone they email. Outside going in, the problem is it either works 100% of the time, or not at all. If it doesn't work the outside people either get a bounced back failed delivery message, or nothing at all and the emails just disappear into cyberspace. And it's not regulated to just one company or one group of domains - it's pretty sparatic on who it's going to work for and who it doesn't work for.
    I checked to see if their IP was blacklisted and the only thing I found was that it just wasn't whitelisted with list.dnswl.org. It wasn't blacklisted with them, it just wasn't listed. Outside of that I cannot figure out why their emails only work with certain people.
    And the problem is across the board with all @grahamwebbacademy.edu email addresses, not just one person's address. Also one reason I'm posting here is that when they put in a support ticket they never get anything back, and my guess is it's because of this very issue, not that no one's responding to them. It's apparently  been going on for a long while too.
    Appreciate the help!

  • Old typo in WGM causing bounce backs

    Hi,
    We run our mail from an xserve.
    We set up a user (jonna)and published her name, but she should have been joanna.
    We soon realized our error and changed the name in the info section, as her details in the basic section where correct.
    However, when anyone sends an email to the group she is in, they get a bounce back saying it could not be delivered to jonna. She is receiving emails to her correct address.
    I have looked everywhere, gone through inspector with a fine tooth comb and cannot find an entry for jonna. I have checked than the address is not saved in collected address's.
    Do you know what I can do to resolve this issue?
    Much thanks, Jim

    Jim,
    Have you used the WGM Inspector? That can be turned on in the WGM Preferences. From there, you can look at the textual information associated with an account. You find be able to find so references to the old name in there.
    Just curious, did you change the initial account in WGM? If so, there is no way to change the first short name associated with an account. That would explain the behavior you are seeing. The best way to insure this isn't the problem is to note all the settings for that account, delete it and create another account with joanna preserving the saved settings.

  • Sudden increase of Bounce Backs

    Everyone in our company has suddenly seen an increase in Bounce Back email messages. I've been reviewing most of them and they usually say "Host or domain not found". I then usually try to ping or telnet into one of these domains and most of the time the domain DOES respond.
    telnet mail.teltec.fr 587
    The only change we made to the servers recently was to install a Barracuda Spam Firewall and then changes the DNS mx record to point it instead of directly to our server.
    So why is our system having such difficulty sending out these emails? Below is a sample bounce back:

    Try to deactivate the Barracuda firewall (if possible) and then test the mail service again. If it works, the problem may have its origin at the Barracuda box. Not sure if you find an expert here, but you may post its configuration for trouble shooting.

  • Exchange 2010 - Bounce backs from unknown accounts

    Hi There,
    I am running exchange 2010 and i had a " Catch all " mailbox setup so any email sent to *@domain.com would get caught in this mailbox using a policy even if the account did not exist. I went to remove the " catch all " mailbox
    as it was no longer needed but if someone external was to email " [email protected] " or spelt a users name wrong the external user will not receive a bounce back telling them that the address is invalid.
    Any ideas?

  • Unexplained bounce backs from Ironport

    We have a C10 device and last week we receved instanct bounce backs from the Ironport when trying to send to several different external email addresses at different domains.
    The bounce backs were being generated by our internal Ironport itself instead of the destination email server so it is as if the email never left our company.
    After serval days and no configuration changes on the Ironport I sent several test emails to these external domains. They are being recevied okay without any problems. Can any one explain what is going on here and how the problem recitifed itself?
    Thanks for your help!

    What may be happening:
    It could be that your mailserver(e.g. Exchange) handed the mail off to the Ironport appliance, who took responsibility for the message. Then, after any last outbound scanning and appending disclaimers, the Ironport appliance did a MX lookup to deliver the message and then upon trying to deliver the message to the appropriate destination, the Ironport MTA received a SMTP 5## error code.
    Upon receiving the SMTP 5## error code, the Ironport appliance will consider this undeliverable to the destination and then turnaround and bounce it back to the original sender, which may be what you're observing.
    Where to go from here:
    It would be useful if you still have those bounce messages that were generated by the Ironport appliance. You can look up the original sender and intended recipient or subject line through the mail logs and find the corresponding timeframe when the Ironport MTA tried to establish a connection to the destination host. This will show up as an ICID event where the Ironport tried to connect to the destination host. I'm surprised that the bounce message didn't provide some info on the cause of the bounce.

    How can I determine the disposition of a message using the mail logs?
