Query on default outbound mail poliy

Hi,
Is it possible on Ironport to drop all the outgoing mails to other than local domain by default.  After this we Can create new policies above the default policy with some users who are allow to send e-mails to a particular domain?
For e.g:- I have a set of users who can send emails only to gmail other than the local domains and another set to send only to rediff.
Any help is highly appresiable.
Is this going to work on Ironport?

Hi Tharun,
just curious, are you sure outbound messages to your own domain get routed through the IronPort appliance? I would assume your mailsever just moves those between it's mailboxes. Anyways, to answer your question,  basically you create another outbound mail policy with your local domain as sender. Then create a filter that only has a drop() action, and activate it in your Default Outbound Mail Policy (and only there!).  So this way outbound recipients to your domain will use the new created mail policy that bypasses the filter, while every other domain will use the default policy, where the message gets dropped.
Hope that helps,
Andreas

  • Suddenly can't connect to gmail SMTP for outbound mail

I have both a MacBook Air and an IMac. Recently, I lost the ability on both machines to send outbound mail. With Apple Care help on my supported machine (the MacBook Air,) we rebuilt my gmail mail account on that machine and was able to reconnect and send outbound mail. (receiving mail was never a problem)
However, going through all of the same steps on the IMac, it keeps saying :"Gmail (offline) next to Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) on the account information screen. When I run Connection Doctor, I have a red light next to Gmail SMTP with the message "Trying to log into this SMTP account failed. Verify that the username and password are correct."
Well, the username and password are correct. I just changed them, and can access Gmail from all of my other devices...MacBook Air, iPhone, IPad.
What is really odd it that is was working until about 3 weeks ago.
Any suggestions/ideas? I'm not particularly technical...just find this very frustrating and don't know where to turn.

No bad form to worry about, just the reduced attention to your problem that a solved designation causes.
If I remove my gmail account, I'll be able to get all the emails back when I create my new one - because it's imap?
    Yes, but check 2 things,
    1. That it is setup as Imap (POP is possible but is not the default) and 2 that you have not created any local folders that house mail from the Imap account, if you did then you must export them before removing the account.
What do you mean by verify both passwords? You mean imap and smtp?
I assume I should be using the application specific password in my mail settings?
    Thanks,
    Bob
Imap and SMTP should be the same, but check.

  • Policy outbound mail

    Hi to all,
W've encountered some problems making a policy based on outbound mail (especially with rewriting the Envelope Sender and message splintering). See the description below:
    conditions:
    - The recipient is a specific domain;
    - The sender is a member of a specific LDAP group
    actions:
    - Rewrite the Envelope Sender, From header and Reply-To header into another domain;
    - Relay the message to a specific SMTP gateway.
Does anybody have a hint/solution for the problems above?
    Kind regards,

    Hi,
Rewriting the headers like you require would usually involve 'masquerading' which can be done a couple of different ways, and is explained in a lengthy article here: http://tinyurl.com/qpjj2
I would encourage you to read the article to determine which is the best method for you; this would heavily depend on the amount of users you need to masquerade for...
From there, you can create an outgoing mail policy with 'Senders' consisting of either a list of addresses, or and LDAP group query, and 'Recipients' containing a list of addresses, or entire domains.

  • Cannot open your default e-mail folders. You must connect to Microsoft Exchange with the current profile before you can synchronize your folders with your Outlook data file (.ost)

Fresh installation of Exchange Server 2013 on Windows Server 2012.
Our first test account cannot access their email via Outlook but can access fine through OWA. The following message appears - "Cannot open your default e-mail folders. You must connect to Microsoft Exchange with the current profile before you can synchronize
your folders with your Outlook data file (.ost)" is displayed.
If I turn off cached Exchange mode, setting the email account to not
cache does not resolve the issue and i get a new error message - "Cannot open your default e-mail folders. The file (path\profile name).ost is not an Outlook data file (.ost). Very odd since it creates its own .ost file when you run it for the first
    time.
I cleared the appdata local Outlook folder and I tested on a new laptop that has never connected to Outlook, same error message on any system.
Microsoft Exchange RPC Client Access service is running.
No warning, error or critical messages in the eventlog, it's like the healthiest server alive.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I haven't encountered this issue with previous versions of Exchange.

So it looks like a lot of people are having this issue and seeing how Exchange 2013 is still new (relatively to the world) there isn't much data around to answer this. I've spend ALOT of time trying to figure this out.
Here is the answer. :) - No I don't know all but I'm going to try to give you the most reasonable answer to this issue, in a most logical way.
First thing I did when I was troubleshooting this issue is that I ignored Martina Miskovic's suggestion for Step4 http://technet.microsoft.com/library/jj218640(EXCHG.150)because it didn't make sense to me because I was trying to connect
Outlook not outside the LAN but actually inside. However, Martina's suggestion does fix the issue if it's applied in the correct context.
This is where the plot thickens (it's stew). She failed to mention that things like SSL (which I configure practically useless - anyone who ever worked in a business environment where the owner pretty much trusts anyone in the company, otherwise they don't
work there - very good business practice in my eyes btw, can confirm that...) are some sort of fetish with Microsoft lately. Exchange 2013 was no exception.
In exchange 2003, exchange 2007 and exchange 2010 - you could install it and then go to outlook and set it up. And when outlook manual Microsoft Exchange profile would ask you for server name, you would give it and give the name of the person who you setting
up - as long as machine is on the domain, not much more is needed. IT JUST WORKS! :) What a concept, if the person already on premises of the business - GIVE HIM ACCESS. I guess that was too logical for Microsoft. Now if you're off premises you can use things
like OutlookAnywhere - which I might add had their place under that scenario.
In Exchange 2013, the world changed. Ofcourse Microsoft doesn't feel like telling it in a plain english to people - I'm sure there is an article somewhere but I didn't find it. Exchange 2013 does not support direct configuration of Outlook like all of it's
previous versions. Did you jaw drop? Mine did when I realized it. So now when you are asked for your server name in manual outlook set up and you give it Exchange2013.yourdomain.local - it says cannot connect to it. This happens because ALL - INTERNAL AND
EXTERNAL connection are now handled via OutlookAnywhere. You can't even disable that feature and have it function the reasonable way.
So now the question still remains - how do you configure outlook. Well under server properties there is this nice section called Outlook anywhere. You have a chance to configure it's External and Internal address. This is another thing that should be logical
but it didn't work that way for me. When I configured the external address different from the internal - it didn't work. So I strongly suggest you get it working with the same internal address first and then ponder how you want to make it work for the outside
    users.
Now that you have this set up you have to go to virtual directories and configure the external and internal address there - this is actually what the Step 4 that Martina was refering to has you do.
Both external and internal address are now the same and you think you can configure your outlook manually - think again. One of the most lovely features of Outlook Anywhere, and the reason why I had never used it in the past is that it requires a TRUSTED
    certificate.
See so it's not that exchange 2013 requires a trusted certificate - it's that exchange 2013 lacks the feature that was there since Windows 2000 and Exchange 5.5.
So it's time for you to install an Active Direction Certificate Authority. Refer to this wonderful article for exact steps - http://careexchange.in/how-to-install-certificate-authority-on-windows-server-2012/
Now even after you do that - it won't work because you have to add the base private key certificate, which you can download now from your internal certsrv site, to Default Domain Policy (AND yes some people claim NEVER mess with the Default Domain Policy,
always make an addition one... it's up to you - I don't see direct harm if you know what you want to accomplish) see this: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc738131%28v=ws.10%29.aspx if you want to know exact steps.
This is the moment of ZEN! :) Do you feel the excitement? After all it is your first time. Before we get too excited lets first request and then install the certificate to actual Exchange via the gui and assign it to all the services you can (IIS, SMTP and
there is a 3rd - I forgot, but you get the idea).
Now go to your client machine where you have the outlook open, browse to your exchange server via https://exchang2013/ in IE and if you don't get any certificate errors - it's good. If you do run on hte client and the server: gpupdate /force This will refresh
the policy. Don't try to manually install the certificate from Exchange's website on the client. If you wanna do something manually to it to the base certificate from the private key but if you added it to the domain policy you shouldn't have to do it.
Basically the idea is to make sure you have CA and that CA allows you to browse to exchange and you get no cert error and you can look at the cert and see that's from a domain CA.
NOW, you can configure your outlook. EASY grasshoppa - not the manual way. WHY? Cause the automatic way will now work. :) Let it discover that exachange and populate it all - and tell you I'm happy! :)
Open Outlook - BOOM! It works... Was it as good for you as it was for me?
You may ask, why can't I just configure it by manual - you CAN. It's just a nightmare. Go ahead and open the settings of the account that got auto configed... How do you like that server name? It should read something like [email protected]
and if you go to advanced and then connection tab - you'll see Outlook Anywhere is checked as well. Look at the settings - there is the name of the server, FQDN I might add. It's there in 2 places and one has that Mtdd-something:Exchange2013.yourdomain.local.
So what is that GUID in the server name and where does it come from. It's the identity of the user's mailbox so for every user that setting will be different but you can figure it out via the console on the Exchange server itself - if you wish.
Also a note, if your SSL certs have any trouble - it will just act like outlook can't connect to the exchange server even though it just declines the connection cause the cert/cert authority is not trusted.
So in short Outlook Anywhere is EVERYWHERE! And it has barely any gui or config and you just supposed to magically know that kind of generic error messages mean what... Server names are now GUIDs of the [email protected] - THAT MAKES PERFECT
SENSE MICROSOFT! ...and you have to manage certs... and the only place where you gonna find the name of the server is inside the d*** Outlook Anywhere settings in the config tab, un it's own config button - CAN WE PUT THE CONFIG ANY FURTHER!
Frustrating beyond reason - that should be Exchange's new slogan...
Hope this will help people in the future and won't get delete because it's bad PR for Microsoft.
    PS
ALSO if you want to pick a fight with me about how SSL is more secure... I don't wanna hear it - go somewhere else...

  • How can I make AOL Desktop software my default e-mail when trying to connect from a a web site on Firefox?

When I click on a link on a website meant for e-mailing--using Windows 7 I no longer have the option of sending it through my AOL Desktop software as I used to in Windows XP. Is there an option in Firefox that will allow me to use the AOL Desktop software as my default e-mail program?

This didn't work. There is no option provided in Firefox for AOL--no add on either. And windows 7 does not let you use a browser based e-mail--even you change the registry--it will bring you to the AOL browser but won't open a "write" e-mail box and enter the name of the recipient automatically as it did in Windows XP by changing the option in internet options...someone must have a way of doing this...

  • Mail rejecting outbound mail, gives error message

Apple mail is all of a sudden rejecting outbound mail. It leaves this Error message:
"This message could not be delivered and will remain in your Outbox until it can be delivered."
"The sender address [email protected] was rejected by the server."
At noon it sent mail fine. A half hour later it won't send anything.
Mail host is not the problem as outbound mail goes fine through the host's web gateway.
I brought down and rebuilt all the account information once this morning, temporarily fixed it, now the problem is back.
Any ideas on what is going on and how to fix it?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
yes, it is a little bit different. This is the issue.....
But I am not sure if your links will help:
    1) /people/william.li/blog/2008/02/13/sap-pi-71-mapping-enhancements-series-using-graphical-variable
is about a different solution. I do not need to count the number of lines of the source message.
And the second variable is about concat line by line from unbound node to unbound node.
    My issue is:
    Souce:
    Message line (0...unbound) ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !
    .    ResultLine   (1..1)
    Mapping:
    =>   ResultLine1
           ResultLine2
ResultLine........          => into UDF to an element  (1..1) in one mapping operation.
So that all "ResultLine"s are included.
The result is explained in the given link for Mail attachment with UDF.
So I am not sure how to use this thread for my issue.
In the comments of that blog Christoph Gerber writes that the new variable feature can only handle single values.
So it is not suitable for my purposes as I have a list of values here that needs to be moved into the target message field.
    2) http://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/display/Java/UsingEditJavaSectioninMessageMapping
shows where to find the button "Java section" which is not available here in 7.1
    3) /people/sap.user72/blog/2005/10/01/xi-new-features-in-sp14
too is about the nice little button for Java Section that is no longer existing on PI 7.1 screen for mappings.
So my issue is: How to replace the Java section function with global variables in PI 7.1?

  • How do you I change the default e-mail address within a contact in Address Book

My v-card (My Card) information has 3 e-mail addresses.  My work e-mail address is the default used whenever I use autofill on a web page.  I am trying to change the default e-mail within my contact to my home e-mail address but there is no information that I can find to do this.

Understand.  I am in the edit mode for my contact.  I see all the contact info.  There is no right click or other means to change the DEFAULT address that autofill uses (it also is first to appear if I type my name in an e-mail). For instance for a group e-mail you can change the default addresses of each contact by control-clicking on the group in Address Book. I can't seem to make the default change in my v-card.

    Greg,
Trouble is that having changed mine to OE a longtime ago I'm not sure that what I see is what you see.
Having gone to about:config do you see network.protocol-handler.external.mailto if you scroll down? I do, but that may be because I have changed already.
If you do see it control-click on it and a drop down menu will come up in which you choose New > Boolean. Having chosen that enter network.protocol-handler.external.mailto when prompted then follow the instructions in the link I gave.
If you don't see it (and it sounds as though you don't) just control-click anywhere on the page and do the same.
Sorry I can't be more precise, it's ages since I did mine.

  • How do I setup my default E~mail address, have tried tool/options window w/ no luck.

I hate to reference microsoft IE8, but they have a default E~mail address that some web sites utilize. So far I have not been able to set-up one on Firefox, the Tool/option/send link does not work for me, nor does the applications window from the above options.

Sorry, but this is getting above my level of experience with Firefox. I use Gmail which is supported, and I never had to dig into it this deep.
Firefox would offer Outlook Express as the first "option", but since Win7 doesn't have Outlook Express as earlier versions of Windows did, that option shows up as Internet Shortcut Shell Extension DLL instead. ''(I get that too, with the "tiny" version of WinXP - ''sans OE'' - I currently use.)'' I have no idea how that Shell Extension DLL works.
The support page that I hyperlinked has this at the bottom: <br />
Firefox 3.5 and Firefox 3.6 include only Gmail and Yahoo! Mail support by default. You may add other services when they add support for this Firefox feature. <br /> ''I think Mozilla was counting on extension developers "picking up the slack" with an extension or extensions for each web mail service out there. But the way I see it, is that when Mozilla changed the way this works for Firefox 3.5 the few extensions that already did that were broken, and then there wasn't anything users had to use after the changes. IMHO, that was half-finished by Mozilla. They probably should have left that as it was in Firefox 3.0 or 2.0, instead of leaving the "completion" of this feature to 3rd party developers.''
You need to an extension to be able to use MSN or Hotmail. Look for a suitable extension in this AMO search.<br />
