Query on Driver Compatibility with Oracle 9i & Oracle 11g

Technical query on Driver Compatibility with Oracle 9i & Oracle 11g of our client scenario
1. There are 2 databases, FCDB and FCR DB. Both the databases are running on Oracle 9i. FCDB Application present is using the same version of JDBC driver (classes12.jar) to communicate with FCDB Local and FCR Host Database. And it is JDK 1.4 compliant.
2. We require upgrading the FCDB alone to 11g Release 1 and FCR DB with same Oracle 9i.
3. In this case, if the application is using the same version of JDBC driver (classes12.jar) to communicate with FCDB Local and FCR Host Database, will there be any issues.
4. Need to check if there is any issues related to the classes12.jar with 11g Release 1 DB whether oracle will extend their support to us and how and when they can they provide it.
5. If there are any issues, can that be resolved by Oracle Support?

  • Blue Ray Disk drive compatibility with DVD S Pro, Mac Pro

Ok, I'll make this an official question, where might I find info on BDR drive compatibility with DVD S Pro, Mac Pro, etc? I'm a little surprised that there doesn't seem to be much info available.
I can always use my Pioneer BDR-202 with a windows box, I have several, but I'm trying to get AWAY from them.
Any thoughts, links, etc. welcome, thanks
    Les

Blu-ray offers a level of interacivity that is not possible with DVDs, so it isn't just an different drive that you are getting with Blu-ray. Seeing how Apple didn't upgrade DVD SP with the new FCP Suite 2, it is reasonable to assume they are working on a separate Blu-Ray Studio Pro, that is going to be completely different than DVD SP. Adobe Encore's support for Blu-Ray is extremely buggy, so obviously moving from DVD programming to Blu-Ray programming isn't just a simple tweak to the code.
Apple doesn't pre-announce software they are working on so this is all guess work, but it is reasonable to assume that they are working on a Blu-Ray programming application. Be patient. Do you really have the money to burn on the bleeding edge of new technology? A single Blu-Ray burnable disc sells for $20. Two months ago the exact same disc sold for $45. Prices will continue to fall as things stablize.

  • NTFS drive compatibility with 10.5 or before

Here's my question: Is there full compatibility in terms of the mac operating system being able to use NTFS formatted drives?
I have windows installed with bootcamp, and find it annoying that I can't access my mac-formatted external hard drive (I know about the program macdrive, but it has limited function as I tried to use one program with my mac drive and it kept telling me that the drive was "already in use" and couldn't be used, aka macdrive doesn't completely resolve usage issues). So I tried plugging in my friend's external hard drive (NTFS formatted) and of course that worked fine. I also accessed a few files on the drive when I was booted in Leopard and there didn't seem to be any problems. So I thought about formatting my existing mac drive into NTFS format since apparently mac can read and write to it fine but Windows can't deal with mac-formatted drives.
Is there any reason I shouldn't do this? Are there any compatibility issues at all between mac and NTFS-formatted drives?

OSX can read but not write to NTFS partitions. Windows can't read Mac formatted partitions at all (without the use of third party software).
Your question was about the mac operating system being able to use NTFS. But if you're booted into Windows via bootcamp, you've got it backwards. You're wanting to know if Windows is compatible with Mac formats, not if the mac can use NTFS.
Yes there's a reason - they're two different operating systems, and neither manufacturer has built-in full compatibility with the other. At least with OSX, you can read NTFS drives.
Personally, I like that separation. The last thing I want to expose my Mac data to is all the bad stuff that can happen when booted into Windows.
If you want something akin to full compatibility, you can't beat Parallels. With the intel chips, the only thing that doesn't run super-fast are games. You can drag and drop between the two operating systems, create shares, and set a security level for your Mac to protect it against Windows dangers to it. There are TONS of reasons why I prefer Parallels - easy to back up an entire Windows "installation" by simply copying the virtual hard disk file to another disk; you can save your last windows state so you don't have to go through a whole Windows boot process, you can create 'snapshots' that are better than Microsoft's own Restore Point technology, etc. It's fantastic.

http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/ThinkPad_Advanced_Mini_Dock states that the dock from the z60t is compatable with the T400/500.  I am not sure about compatability with the T410/510.
The hard drive should be able to boot assuming you do not have any security turned on, however keep in mind XP is very finicky when it comes to hardware being changed and these two system will have significantly different hardware.  Most likely you will end up having to transfer the information off your old hd, which could be done with either a ultrabay hd adapter or an inexpensive USB adapter.

  • NI Motion Controllers and Drives compatibility with stepper motors

    Hello:
I'm trying to setup a motion control system and I'm facing some trouble. The final goal is to be able to control a couple of stepper motors. We already have a PXI System with a PXI-7354 motion controller, and a UMI-7774 connector block. What we don't have yet is the stepper drives and motors. It's likely that because of torque requirements we may need a gearbox. Here I disclose some of my doubts:
We are considering the P70360 or the P70530 drives, but I would like to know if it is possible to connect thrid party drives to the motion controllers? What requirements this drives should comply?
Similar as the first one, Is it possible to connect third party stepper motors to the NI stepper drives? What requirements this motors should comply?
Finally, Is it possible to adapt gearboxes to the NI stepper motors? If so, Which ones are recommended?
    Thanks in advance,
    Robst.
    Robst - CLD
    Using LabVIEW since version 7.0

       Hello Robst,
Either the P70360 or the P70530 will be good drives depending on your wattage requirement. A loose rule regarding wattage is not to exceed 80% of capacity. If you think you'll exceed that, buy bigger.
Regarding third party drives, though many are compatible we cannot guarantee compatiblitty of all drives nor are we able to support them. That being said you may want to take a look at these KBs which describe some issues to be mindful of when looking at third party drives.
How Do I get the 73xx Controller and UMI-7764 to Drive a Third Party Stepper Motor?
How to Connect NI 73xx Digital Outputs to Third Party Equipment
How to connect the 73xx inhibit and command signal outputs to third party drives.
Some points to glean from the above links are what kind of current gets sinked and sourced by the drives to insure compatibility. Regarding stepper motors, again we will only be able to guarantee compatiblity and provide support for stepper motors provided by NI. That said, the majority of stepper motors I've seen are compatible with our equipment assuming the drive it's connected to is compatible. Below are some articles that may help you make a decision on what type of stepper motor you choose.
Selecting the Proper Size Stepper Motor
NI Stepper Motion System Selection Guide
How Can I Determine My Stepper Motor Wiring Without the Stepper Motor Pinout?
As for gearboxes, you will just need to make sure that the gearbox you select fits properly with the motor you are using. Often the gearboxes are standardized to NEMA sizes that correspond with the stepper motors. Kollmorgen, who manufactures the motors that we sell, also makes gearboxes. Their gearboxes would be a good place to start.

  • USB drive compatibility with Lion ?

Hi all, i have a an Exteranl USB Enclosure that contains a 3.5" IDE drive, this works fine when plugged into my 15" MacBookPro with LION and it also worked perfectly when i had Snow Leopard.
So why does it NOT work when plugged into a friends 13" MacBookPro with Snow Leopard ?????
    Any ideas anyone, please
BTW. It doesnt show up in Disk Utility either !.

    Hi,
I would check their USB Ports to see if they are working (try another port or another device in that same port)
You could check in System Profiler/Information in Lion.

  • Sony HD Camcorder with hard drive-compatibility with a mac

I am considering purchasing a new Sony HD camcorder with an internal hard drive but it appears the hd format is not compatible with a mac. Does this sound correct and if so do we know how long til they can work together. Sony stated that mac would not be able to read the hd formatting? Sony model HDR-SR1

    Thanks for adding consumer comments.
No sound in QuickTime (with the Playback Component installed) is probably created by Sony (not Apple). I'll bet they use their own "scheme" (proprietary codecs).
Your "conversions" from MPEG-2 format to DV Stream do look good. But they would look even better if the source format was DV Stream to begin with.
Because your camera records in MPEG-2 format it must first "compress" your video. DV Stream is 13 GB's an hour. MPEG-2 compresses this down so you're losing data from your "true" source.
If someone from Sony was passing these cameras out on a street corner I would walk on by.
I would consider a HD recorder if it kept the file as DV Stream and included a Firewire connection. Sony does this with their "tape" machine but they call Firewire "iLink".

  • USB drive compatibility with Airport Routers. Help make database.

    Please HELP.
Everyone who has a USB drive plugged into the airport directly and working, I want to assemble a database of those that work and those that fail.
And if you could not get it to work but it is ok on a powered USB hub please also give that info.
I see the question over and over about failure of the USB drive to work on a Time Capsule or Extreme (Express is not compatible).
The drive must be formatted correctly. FAT32 or Mac OS Extended (Journaled). (HFS+) are the only formats that work.. and really only the later is recommended.
Yet when people plug their drive into the airport, all correctly formatted it does not work.
    There are obvious considerations..
    1. Format and partition is correct.
    2. Power consumption.. self powered drives may not get enough power.. actually I would not recommend using self-powered drives with any of the older version TC.. the power supply is underrated.. and even the AE power supply is far from excessive. The new version AC models have a far more powerful supply, so self powered drives should not be a problem.
    3. USB chipset.. I think the problem is here. A USB drive can work fine on the Computer.. it has huge number of drivers available but the AE/TC has limited firmware space and limited number of drivers. So what I want is to find those that work and those that don't.
    Info I would like.
    1. Make and model.. as much info as required that a person could go out and buy that same one. ie versions maybe important.
    2. Does it work directly on the AE/TC?.. yes or no.
    3. Does it work via a powered hub? yes or no. Leave this blank if the answer to 2 is yes.
    4. Can you please plug it into the Mac, open the system information and give me this info.

The last bit I want is to work out if any of the technical id stuff helps.
What is the USB chipset? You do not need to add the info.. I can search for it.. but when I google the Vendor ID: 0x4971 I discover this is JMicron.
If you are interested then please you can add it as well.
There is a lot of info around the web.. look for reliable source.

Maybe we can track down the factors that are making it hard to pick devices that work and devices that don't.
At least have a list of drives known to work could be helpful.
There is a listing.. http://www.ifelix.co.uk/tech/8014.html It is way out of date.
That is the only one I know of.. but if people can point to others that is great.

  • I can't startup to an external 800 fire wire drive loaded with 10.5?

I have a Power Mac G5 with dual 1.8 GHz cpu's, 2.5 gigabytes of ram. Boot rom version 5.1.5f0 running OSX 4.11. And a Power PC G4
Laptop with one 1,67 Ghz cpu, with 1.5 GB of ram. Boot rom version 4.9.1f1, running OSX 10.5.7. My problem is that I can't get my new 1TB Western Digital external hard drive seen when you hold down the option key on either system?
I formatted it with a fresh OSX 10.5 I bought the family pack for the operating system so I'm legal and this was the 2nd computer to be loaded. The installation was complete but on reboot it went to my internal drive so I never was able to set up the internet settings and such to this startup drive. It will show up in finder and also under the system pref, under startup drive. So when you select it under that it still will just reboot to the internal drive?
And the option button on startup still just see's the internal drive? I've spent many days and nights trying to figure out what I've done wrong? So I ended up at a Mac store with the external hard drive and it booted up perfect! So what's up? The one thing that I noticed was a different graphic. On the option thing my computer shows up with a small drive icon and a watch looking thing that takes about 30 seconds to turn into a curser and at the mac store "bam" all drives showed up and it was larger graphic and just the curser.
So what's my problem on my other 2 systems? Possibly firmware? I tried that also and everything above the ones that I currently have says that the upgrades don't apply to my machines in some form or another? Also I assume that a 1TB drive was a pipe dream back then sooo? But the OS X updates should have taken care of that?
I have a new Imac 24 inch in a box, but I won't even open it until I can get this problem figured out! I want to condense my G4 and G5 info on a boot-able external hard drive. And I want to have my new Imac clean of all the clutter. Thanks' in advance for anyone that can help me! Even the Mac guy was baffled as-to why it wouldn't work on my other systems?

    That's all correct.
However (and I've just found this), not all Western Digital drives are fully boot-compatible across both Intel and PowerPC Macs. Check out this table - you may find your drive just isn't supported:

  • Oracle Database10g Express Edition's compatibility with Forms/Reports 10g

    hi,
I have a problem while connecting from Oracle Forms/Reports 10g to Oracle Database10g Express Edition.I have configured through the net configuration assistant and it shows the test is also successful. But while connecting from Oracle Forms/Reports 10g, an error is being displayed saying that the TNS could not resolve service name(ORA - 012154). I am able to connect to my database server normally. I got a doubt now regarding Oracle Database10g Express Edition's compatibility with Oracle Developer Suite 10g. Can I use Oracle Database10g Express Edition as backend for Forms/Reports 10g in a stand alone machine.

    Thanks in advance.
    RAKESH

12154 means that the TNSNAMES.ora that reports is using does not understand what the '@XE' means.
Check that you do not have several different TNSNAMES.ora files - there are probably several, and the one you are using probably does not point to XE. This is the most common cause I've seen.
