Query on LC PDF Generator ES2 new features

Hi,
Has anyone try out Adobe LiveCycle PDF Generator ES2 new features?
Based on Adobe Upgrade Center http://www.adobe.com/products/livecycle/upgrade/pdfgenerator.html, it mentioned that PDF Generator ES2 has the ability to embed SWF files in PDF.
But is this also applicable to Flex Application compiled SWF file?
Does the generated PDF function as a normal interactive form or a flat static form?
Able to retain its embedded schema and objects (scripts)?
Thanks.

Hi Jess - ES is jut running on a virgin XP SP2 Virtual PC (2gb RAM dedicated) so no other processes should be accessing it.
One thing I wondered - for the ES Preview, you get a 30 day eval of Acrobat 8.1 Pro - which of course usually comes up with the 'this is an eval - do you want to buy/continue' I would not have thought it would have been included if a problem, but could that be it?
"Check to be sure the environment variables are set up correctly - this should be done automatically during installation and deployment."
- all the JDK stuff was checked and seemed fine.
Major problem is the vagueness of the LC error msg - any way to get more detailed error info??
Thanks

  • Problems with PDF generator (PLT file to convert)

    Hello everybody,
    I'm having a (maybe) stupid problem trying to print a PDF file from a PLT.
    Here I write the steps I followed to do my test:
    1- download the example file from http://www.winline.com/evalpen_center.html (GL-C-F.plt)
    2- from the Administration Panel of Livecycle ES2 go to Services > LifeCycle PDF Generator ES2 > Convert 3D
    3- set as input the downloaded file and leave the default of the other parameters ("Create PDF", "Standard")
    4- try to generate the PDF.
    Here I have three different issues:
    - the first is that in the result page, if I click on the link of the PDF file generated, I obtain the message "File does not begin with '%PDF-'" and nothing happen;
    - if I click on it and I download the file, I can see it is a PS file, as if LifeCycle generates the PS but it doesn't print the PDF;
    - in the end if I convert the PS to PDF, I cannot see anything because the drawing is completly out of the page and too big to be displayed entirely.
    Could you suggest me any kind of solution or what I have to check in the parameters? I don't know what I can do now because I don't have any other idea.
    If I try to open the file in Adobe 3D Reviewer, I can do what I want, so I think it's not a problem due to compability.
    Thanks,
    Riccardo

    If you were using an Adobe product, someone could probably help but as it is, you aren't using one at all.
    You'll want to check with the support folks at whatever company makes deskpdf 2.5.

  • Generate a new pdf report with itens on my pdf form

    Hi! My name is Heitor.
    I have Adobe Forms Central and Adobe Acrobat XI Pro installed on my machine.
    I would like to know if its possible to make a pdf report.
    Example: Clicking in a button "print" on my already open and filled pdf form, and gathering all my 30 itens (see that i am only showing 5 itens on my form. but on my form exists a "Add" button to add itens on variables) on a dropdown list and generating a new pdf report with all these itens listed.
    Thanks!

  • How to crop pages using Adobe LiveCycle ES2 PDF Generator and Acrobat 9.2 Pro Extended

    Hi all,
    I'm evaluating the possibilities of Adobe LiveCycle ES2.0 PDF Generator in order to convert on the fly (programmatically) MS Office Documents and Visio drawings into PDF files.
    I'm able to trigger this process using the Webservices API (from within C#). However when generating the PDF files in this way, each and every PDF file has a lot of white margins around it as it is generated as an 8x11 inch page.
    I have been looking in ways to crop these white margins from around the information, so that the PDF content is only showing the actual content (in order to be used as an image).
    I found a way of doing this manually by opening the generated PDF file of LiveCycle in Acrobat 9.2 Pro Extended and using the Document > Crop Pages... option.
    So my question is: Can this be done programmatically using Adobe LiveCycle ES (and/or API functions of the Acrobat tool).
    The envisioned solution would run on a server (without interaction/monitoring requirements by a human).
    Any input about this is highly appreciated.
    Kind Regards,
    Raf

  • ES2 PDF Generator file not 508 compliant

    I am using the PDF generator service in th
    e ES2. When i take a document that has alt text with the image the converted prf does not have the alt text. Does anybody know what settings address this? Is it a compatiability issue, Acrobat 6.0 or greater?

  • Oracle 10G New Feature........Part 1

    Dear all,
    from last couple of days i was very busy with my oracle 10g box,so i think this is right time to
    share some intresting feature on 10g and some internal stuff with all of you.
    Have a look :-
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Oracle 10g Memory and Storage Feature.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    1.Automatic Memory Management.
    2.Online Segment Shrink
    3.Redolog Advisor, checkpointing
    4.Multiple Temporary tablespace.
    5.Automatic Workload Repository
    6.Active Session History
    7.Misc
    a)Rename Tablespace
    b)Bigfile tablespace
    c)flushing buffer cache
    8.ORACLE INTERNAL
    a)undocumented parameter (_log_blocks_during_backup)
    b)X$ view (x$messages view)
    c)Internal Structure of Controlfile
    1.Automatic memory management
    ================================
    This feature reduce the overhead of oracle DBA.previously mostly time we need to set diff oracle SGA parameter for
    better performance with the help of own experience,advice views and by monitoring the behaviour
    of oracle database.
    this was just time consuming activity.........
    Now this feature makes easy life for oracle DBA.
    Just set SGA_TARGET parameter and it automatically allocate memory to different SGA parameter.
    it focus on DB_CACHE_SIZE
    SHARED_POOL_SIZE
    LARGE_POOL
    JAVA_POOL
    and automatically set it as
    __db_cache_size
    __shared_pool_size
    __large_pool_size
    __java_pool_size
    check it in alert_log
    MMAN(memory manager) process is new in 10g and this is responsible for sga tuning task.
    it automatically increase and decrease the SGA parameters value as per the requirement.
    Benefit:- Maximum utlization of available SGA memory.
    2.Online Segment Shrink.
    ==========================
    hmmmmm again a new feature by oracle to reduce the downtime.Now oracle mainly focus on availablity
    thats why its always try to reduce the downtime by intrducing new feature.
    in previous version ,reducing High water mark of table was possible by
    Exp/imp
    or
    alter table move....cmd. but on these method tables was not available for normal use for long hrs if it has more data.
    but in 10g with just few command we can reduce the HWmark of table.
    this feature is available for ASSM tablespaces.
    1.alter table emp enable row movement.
    2.alter table emp shrink space.
    the second cmd have two phases
    first phase is to compact the segment and in this phase DML operations are allowed.
    second phase(shrink phase)oracle shrink the HWM of table, DML operation will be blocked at that time for short duration.
    So if want to shrink the HWM of table then we should use it with two diff command
    first compact the segment and then shrink it on non-peak hrs.
    alter table emp shrink space compact. (This cmd doesn't block the DML operation.)
    and alter table emp shrink space. (This cmd should be on non-peak hrs.)
    Benefit:- better full table scan.
    3.Redolog Advisor and checkpointing
    ================================================================
    now oracle will suggest the size of redo log file by V$INSTANCE_RECOVERY
    SELECT OPTIMAL_LOGFILE_SIZE
    FROM V$INSTANCE_RECOVERY
    this value is influence with the value of FAST_START_MTTR_TARGET .
    Checkpointing
    Automatic checkpointing will be enable after setting FAST_START_MTTR_TARGET to non-zero value.
    4.Multiple Temporary tablespace.
    ==================================
    Now we can manage multiple temp tablespace under one group.
    we can create a tablespace group implicitly when we include the TABLESPACE GROUP clause in the CREATE TEMPORARY TABLESPACE or ALTER TABLESPACE statement and the specified tablespace group does not currently exist.
    For example, if group1 is not exists,then the following statements create this groups with new tablespace
    CREATE TEMPORARY TABLESPACE temp1 TEMPFILE '/u02/oracle/data/temp01.dbf'
    SIZE 50M
    TABLESPACE GROUP group1;
    --Add Existing temp tablespace into group by
    alter tablespace temp2 tablespace group group1.
    --we can also assign the temp tablespace group on database level as default temp tablespace.
    ALTER DATABASE <db name> DEFAULT TEMPORARY TABLESPACE group1;
    benefit:- Better I/O
    One sql can use more then one temp tablespace
    5.AWR(Automatic Workload Repository):-
    ================================== AWR is built in Repository and Central point of Oracle 10g.Oracle self managing activities
    is fully dependent on AWR.by default after 1 hr, oracle capure all database uses information and store in AWR with the help of
    MMON process.we called it Memory monitor process.and all these information are kept upto 7 days(default) and after that it automatically purge.
    we can generate a AWR report by
    SQL> @?/rdbms/admin/awrrpt
    Just like statspack report but its a advance and diff version of statspack,it provide more information of Database as well as OS.
    it show report in Html and Text format.
    we can also take manually snapshot for AWR by
    BEGIN
    DBMS_WORKLOAD_REPOSITORY.CREATE_SNAPSHOT ();
    END;
    **The STATISTICS_LEVEL initialization parameter must be set to the TYPICAL or ALL to enable the Automatic Workload Repository.

    Benefit:- Now DBA have more free time to play games.....................:-)
    Advance version of statspack
    more DB and OS information with self managing capabilty
    New Automatic alert and database advisor with the help of AWR.
    6.Active Session History:-
    ==========================
    V$active_session_history is view that contain the recent session history.
    the memory for ASH is comes from SGA and it can't more then 5% of Shared pool.
    So we can get latest and active session report from v$active_session_history view and also get histortical data of
    of session from DBA_HIST_ACTIVE_SESS_HISTORY.
    v$active_session_history include some imp column like:-
    ~SQL identifier of SQL statement
    ~Object number, file number, and block number
    ~Wait event identifier and parameters
    ~Session identifier and session serial number
    ~Module and action name
    ~Client identifier of the session
    7.Misc:-
    ========
    Rename Tablespace:-
    =================
    in 10g,we can even rename a tablespace by
    alter tablespace <tb_name> rename to <tb_name_new>;
    This command will update the controlfile,data dictionary and datafile header,but dbf filename will be same.
    **we can't rename system and sysaux tablespace.
    Bigfile tablespace:-
    ====================
    Bigfile tablespace contain only one datafile.
    A bigfile tablespace with 8K blocks can contain a 32 terabyte datafile.
    Bigfile tablespaces are supported only for locally managed tablespaces with automatic segment-space management.
    we can take the advantage of bigfile tablespace when we are using ASM or other logical volume with RAID.
    without ASM or RAID ,it gives poor response.
    syntax:-
    CREATE BIGFILE TABLESPACE bigtbs
    Flushing Buffer Cache:-
    ======================
    This option is same as flushing the shared pool,but only available with 10g.
    but i don't know, whats the use of this command in prod database......
    anyway we can check and try it on test server for tuning n testing some query etc....
    SQL> alter system flush buffer_cache;
    System altered.
    ++++++++++++++++++
    8.Oracle Internal
    ++++++++++++++++++
    Here is some stuff that is not related with 10g but have some intresting things.
    a)undocumented parameter "_log_blocks_during_backup"
    ++++++++++++++++++++++++
    as we know that oracle has generate more redo logs during hotbackup mode because
    oracle has to maintain the a complete copy of block into redolog due to split block.
    we can also change this behaviour by setting this parameter to False.
    If Oracle block size equals the operating system block size.thus reducing the amount of redo generated
    during a hot backup.
    WITHOUT ORACLE SUPPORT DON'T SET IT ON PROD DATABASE.THIS DOCUMENT IS JUST FOR INFORMATIONAL PURPOSE.
    b)some X$ views (X$messages)
    ++++++++++++++++
    if you are intresting in oracle internal architecture then x$ view is right place for getting some intresting things.
    X$messages :-it show all the actions that a background process do.
    select * from x$messages;
    like:-
    lock memory at startup MMAN
    Memory Management MMAN
    Handle sga_target resize MMAN
    Reset advisory pool when advisory turned ON MMAN
    Complete deferred initialization of components MMAN
    lock memory timeout action MMAN
    tune undo retention MMNL
    MMNL Periodic MQL Selector MMNL
    ASH Sampler (KEWA) MMNL
    MMON SWRF Raw Metrics Capture MMNL
    reload failed KSPD callbacks MMON
    SGA memory tuning MMON
    background recovery area alert action MMON
    Flashback Marker MMON

    The contents of the current controlfile can be dumped in text form.
    Dump Level Dump Contains
    1 only the file header
    2 just the file header, the database info record, and checkpoint progress records
    3 all record types, but just the earliest and latest records for circular reuse record types
    4 as above, but includes the 4 most recent records for circular reuse record types
    5+ as above, but the number of circular reuse records included doubles with each level
    the session must be connected AS SYSDBA
    alter session set events 'immediate trace name controlf level 5';
    This dump show lots of intresting information.
    it also show rman recordes if we used this controlfile in rman backup.

  • A potential bug on the new feature (12c) of Identity Column?

    Hi,
    I am testing a newly introduced feature of Identity Column in Oracle 12c. I used EclipseLink (JPA) to access the database.
    I may have found a potential bug with this feature. I am getting "ORA-30667: cannot drop NOT NULL constraint on a DEFAULT ON NULL column" when I try to insert a row. My code doesn't explicitly drop "NOT NULL" constraint.
    When I delete all the tables under the user and re-define the user and the tables, the error disappear.
    Here are the details:
    Error:
    DatabaseException Internal Exception: java.sql.SQLException: ORA-00604: error occurred at recursive SQL level 1 ORA-30667: cannot drop NOT NULL constraint on a DEFAULT ON NULL column Error Code: 604 Call: INSERT INTO MyTable (ID, SOMEID, SOMEDATE) VALUES (?, ?, ?) bind => [null, 100100147, 2013-11-29 Query: InsertObjectQuery(cus.entity.MyTable@1a9ea5b)
    Table definition:
    CREATE TABLE MyTable (id NUMBER GENERATED BY DEFAULT ON NULL AS IDENTITY PRIMARY KEY,
          someId INT NOT NULL,
          someDate DATE NOT NULL,
          PARTITION BY range(someDate)
          interval(numtodsinterval(1,'year'))
          SUBPARTITION BY HASH ( someId)
          SUBPARTITIONS 20
           PARTITION p0 VALUES LESS THAN (TO_DATE('01-12-2013', 'DD-MM-YYYY'))
    Could anyone tell me if there might be a bug associated with the new feature or if there was something wrong with my code?
    I would be appreciated if anyone can help.

    "here is a reproducible test case in the SCOTT schema - if it reproduces for you open an SR with Oracle"
    Yes. I have just followed the instruction you posted and managed to re-produce the same error I reported earlier. Here are the details of the script output following your posted instruction:

  • Live links in PDFs generated from Microsoft Word 2008?

    A couple of years ago, I was informed that my live links (bookmarks, indexmarks, etc.) in documents generated by Microsoft Word 2004 for the Macintosh did not become PDF live links in Acrobat Standard 7 because the Mac version from Microsoft Word 2004 didn't use the necessary hooks (
    i "APIs"
    or something like that) even though the Windows version did.
    Now that MS Word/MS Office 2008 for the Mac is coming out, will we be able to generate PDFs with such live links.
    Any input will be most appreciated.
    Acrobat Standard 7.0.9. Tiger 10.4.11. Dual bootable, DP MDD 1.25GHz G4 (2004), maxed out at 2GB of RAM, both Spotlight and Dashboard disabled, Photoshop primary scratch disk on dedicated 160GB internal drive, at least 100GB available on each of the four internal drives, up to 300GB on some. Counting external FW drives just over 1TB of drive space available. nVidia GeForce 7800 GS 425MHz 256 MB graphics display card. Processor napping enabled through CHUD 3.5.2.

    While this does not answer the problem of live links. (You can create them Manually, they just are not generated direct from Office Mac).
    The answer to the other question of the little annoying PDFMaker Menu (that never really worked correctly for me (took 5 minutes just to generate a 108K PDF).
    Because MicroSoft took out VBA Support on Mac side That rendered the PDFMaker menu useless because it uses VBA to work.
    So what they have done in Word 2008 is actually put it as Translator choice on the save menu. They now directly can save Word Files directly as PDF files. once you have created your file and saved it. Then go again to *Save As....* , when menu open scroll mouse down until you run across the choice PDF. select that and save. not only is it easier a 108K document can be saved in about 15 seconds or less not the old 5 minutes going through PDFMaker.
    One of PDFMaker's failings was that each step of conversion it called up Distiller which first created a .PS file. Then it checked the file. Then created the PDF file. Then checked the file again before actually writing the PDF File. Then only after checking the written PDF, would it delete the invisible PS file. Finally the PDF file was created. Naturally with all the check steps if you have a very large file could take ages.
    With word's new feature (2008) you can generate a PDF at blinding speeds.

  • Creating a conditional index? How to suggest a new feature?

    How can I suggest a new feature in Oracle?
    Imagine a table of service requests to be processed, where a column named STATUS can be: 'N': New, 'C': Canceled or 'P': Processed. This will result in a biased distribution where 'P' will represent more than 99% of rows.
    I know that Oracle accept indexes created using functions and I can create an index on decode(STATUS,'P',null,STATUS) to make index small. But it will not help a query on STATUS = 'N' condition.
    I would like to create a conditional index like:
    create index idx01 on service_requests (status) where status <> 'P';
    In this example, only status 'N' and 'C' will be indexed resulting in a very small index that can resolve filters like STATUS = 'N'.
    Or this:
    create index idx01 on some_tables (column1 including null values); to resolve COLUMN1 is NULL
    Is there a way to suggest new features like this?

    A new feature isn't needed. Oracle provides the equivalent of that 'conditional index' by allowing you to create, and index, VIRTUAL columns.
    This code uses a VIRTUAL column and then creates an index on it.
    drop table test_status
    create table test_status (col1 number,
         status varchar2(1),
         special_status generated always as (decode(STATUS,'P',null,STATUS)
    create index idx01 on test_status (special_status)

  • SAP BI New Features???

    Hi,
    Is there any way to find out details of an imported support pack...we are working on SAP BI 7.0 support pack 17.
    We jumped from SP13 to SP17 and there are few new features which i am not able to get any info docs anywhere...(SAP Marketplace, Help.sap.com)
    Regards,
    Aadil

    hi
    i sent u some features of bi 7.0
    Metadata Search (Developer Functionality) :
    1.     It is possible to search BI metadata (such as InfoCubes, InfoObjects, queries, Web templates) using the TREX search engine. This search is integrated into the Metadata Repository, the Data Warehousing Workbench and to some degree into the object editors. With the simple search, a search for one or all object types is performed in technical names and in text.
    2.     During the text search, lower and uppercase are ignored and the object will also be found when the case in the text is different from that in the search term. With the advanced search, you can also search in attributes. These attributes are specific to every object type. Beyond that, it can be restricted for all object types according to the person who last changed it and according to the time of the change.
    3.      For example, you can search in all queries that were changed in the last month and that include both the term "overview" in the text and the characteristic customer in the definition. Further functions include searching in the delivered (A) version, fuzzy search and the option of linking search terms with u201CANDu201D and u201CORu201D.
    4.     "Because the advanced search described above offers more extensive options for search in metadata, the function ""Generation of Documents for Metadata"" in the administration of document management (transaction RSODADMIN) was deleted. You have to schedule (delta) indexing of metadata as a regular job (transaction RSODADMIN).
         Effects on Customizing
         Installation of TREX search engine
         Creation of an RFC destination for the TREX search engine
         Entering the RFC destination into table RSODADMIN_INT
         Determining relevant object types
         Initial indexing of metadata"
    Remote Activation of DataSources (Developer Functionality) :
    1.      When activating Business Content in BI, you can activate DataSources remotely from the BI system. This activation is subject to an authorization check. You need role SAP_RO_BCTRA. Authorization object S_RO_BCTRA is checked. The authorization is valid for all DataSources of a source system. When the objects are collected, the system checks the authorizations remotely, and issues a warning if you lack authorization to activate the DataSources.
    2.       In BI, if you trigger the transfer of the Business Content in the active version, the results of the authorization check are based on the cache. If you lack the necessary authorization for activation, the system issues a warning for the DataSources. BW issues an error for the corresponding source-system-dependent objects (transformations, transfer rules, transfer structure, InfoPackage, process chain, process variant). In this case, you can use Customizing for the extractors to manually transfer the required DataSources in the source system from the Business Content, replicate them in the BI system, and then transfer the corresponding source-system-dependent objects from the Business Content. If you have the necessary authorizations for activation, the DataSources in the source system are transferred to the active version and replicated in the BI system. The source-system-dependent objects are activated in the BI system.
    3.     Source systems and/or BI systems have to have BI Service API SAP NetWeaver 2004s at least; otherwise remote activation is not supported. In this case, you have to activate the DataSources in the source system manually and then replicate them to the BI system.
    Copy Process Chains (Developer Functionality):
    You find this function in the Process Chain menu and use it to copy the process chain you have selected, along with its references to process variants, and save it under a new name and description.
    InfoObjects in Hierarchies (Data Modeling):
    1.      Up to Release SAP NetWeaver 2004s, it was not possible to use InfoObjects with a length longer than 32 characters in hierarchies. These types of InfoObjects could not be used as a hierarchy basic characteristic and it was not possible to copy characteristic values for such InfoObjects as foreign characteristic nodes into existing hierarchies. From SAP NetWeaver 2004s, characteristics of any length can be used for hierarchies.
    2.      To load hierarchies, the PSA transfer method has to be selected (which is always recommended for loading data anyway). With the IDOC transfer method, it continues to be the case that only hierarchies can be loaded that contain characteristic values with a length of less than or equal to 32 characters.
    Parallelized Deletion of Requests in DataStore Objects (Data Management) :
    Now you can delete active requests in a DataStore object in parallel. Up to now, the requests were deleted serially within an LUW. This can now be processed by package and in parallel.
    Object-Specific Setting of the Runtime Parameters of DataStore Objects (Data Management):
    Now you can set the runtime parameters of DataStore objects by object and then transport them into connected systems. The following parameters can be maintained:
    u2022        Package size for activation
    u2022        Package size for SID determination
    u2022        Maximum wait time before a process is designated lost
    u2022        Type of processing: Serial, Parallel(batch), Parallel (dialog)
    u2022        Number of processes to be used
    u2022        Server/server group to be used
    Enhanced Monitor for Request Processing in DataStore Objects (Data Management):
    1.      For the request operations executed on DataStore objects (activation, rollback and so on), there is now a separate, detailed monitor. In previous releases, request-changing operations are displayed in the extraction monitor. When the same operations are executed multiple times, it will be very difficult to assign the messages to the respective operations.
    2.      In order to guarantee a more simple error analysis and optimization potential during configuration of runtime parameters, as of release SAP NetWeaver 2004s, all messages relevant for DataStore objects are displayed in their own monitor.
    Write-Optimized DataStore Object (Data Management):
    1.      Up to now it was necessary to activate the data loaded into a DataStore object to make it visible to reporting or to be able to update it to further InfoProviders. As of SAP NetWeaver 2004s, a new type of DataStore object is introduced: the write-optimized DataStore object.
    2.      The objective of the new object type is to save data as efficiently as possible in order to be able to further process it as quickly as possible without addition effort for generating SIDs, aggregation and data-record based delta. Data that is loaded into write-optimized DataStore objects is available immediately for further processing. The activation step that has been necessary up to now is no longer required.
    3.      The loaded data is not aggregated. If two data records with the same logical key are extracted from the source, both records are saved in the DataStore object. During loading, for reasons of efficiency, no SID values can be determined for the loaded characteristics. The data is still available for reporting. However, in comparison to standard DataStore objects, you can expect to lose performance because the necessary SID values have to be determined during query runtime.
    Deleting from the Change Log  (Data Management):
    The Deletion of Requests from the Change Log process type supports the deletion of change log files. You select DataStore objects to determine the selection of requests. The system supports multiple selections. You select objects in a dialog box for this purpose. The process type supports the deletion of requests from any number of change logs.
    Using InfoCubes in InfoSets (Data Modeling):
    1.      You can now include InfoCubes in an InfoSet and use them in a join. InfoCubes are handled logically in InfoSets like DataStore objects. This is also true for time dependencies. In an InfoCube, data that is valid for different dates can be read.
    2.      For performance reasons you cannot define an InfoCube as the right operand of a left outer join. SAP does not generally support more than two InfoCubes in an InfoSet.

  • Follow-up to archived thread "Another Error (I think) In the 12.1 New Features Guide"

    I hoped to be able to add a reply to the most recent reply on March 8 in the "Another Error (I think) In the 12.1 New Features Guide" thread (https://community.oracle.com/thread/3526588), but since that thread has been archived, I am doing what was suggested elsewhere: create a new thread referencing the old one. My reply is:
    Thank you for your explanation about preferring PDF over HTML. That is perfectly fine and understandable. Also, we very much appreciate your documentation feedback in this forum, and encourage you to continue to report any issues here.
    I apologize for not replying much sooner. I either didn't get or overlooked an original notification about "Recent activity" after your reply; otherwise, I would have replied then.

    Thanks for that comment. I have sent a pointer to it to the writer for that book. Note that with the New Features Guide, most of the content is automatically drawn from an internal system that tracks projects and features; so if a change is needed, the writer will notify the owner of that content (typically a developer or a product manager) to investigate and (if necessary) modify the underlying data, after which the changed information will be picked up for a future revision of the book.
    Also, while anyone is welcome to enter documentation comments in this forum, another option that may be more convenient for comments on specific sections is the Reader Comment area at the bottom of each HTML page (such as http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E16655_01/server.121/e17906/chapter1.htm#NEWFT495 for the page containing Section 1.5.9.8). Any comments entered in a Reader Comment area go to someone in our documentation production group, who forwards them to the appropriate writers.
    However, if a comment involves multiple HTML pages or books, or if you want the matter to be in a public forum for visibility and searchability, posting in this forum is a good option.

  • New Features and Improvements for CS6

    IMPORTANT:
    By default, Photoshop comes with the Proofing Colors (Cmd/Ctrl+Y) activated and set to CMYK. Adobe must warn about that, because I was editing a large amount of pictures for work and I was doing it under that color profile/work space.
    LAYERS PANEL:
    Layer Adjustments:
    Solid Color: visual feedback in real time.
    Gradient: IDEM as above.
    Pattern: IDEM as above.
    Gradient Map: IDEM as above.
    Gradient Editor: IDEM as above.
    Opacity and Fill: IDEM as above.
    Curves and Levels: Ability to load alfa channels. This way, the adjustments made on the alfa channel won't be destructive.
    CHANNELS PANEL:
    Channel Luminosity Selection:
    Ability to add and subtract from the selection.
    Ability to designate an area to be selected.
    For point 1, by using the shortcut Cmd+Alt+[number] the luminosity of a channel is loaded as selection. With Cmd+Alt+Shift+[number], the selection grows. But there is no way to subtract from selection (unless by clicking with the mouse on the channel's thumbnail). I think that can be solved by using Cmd+Alt+Shift+[- or +] in order to subtract or add from selection.
    Point 2 maybe even more important than point 1, because it allows selecting a designated area by the user, instead of the default luminosity selection, which ranges from 50% of the mid tones to the highlights (or shadows, if the selection is inverted). The user should be allowed to select the starting and finishing points of the luminosity selection.
    I thought 2 ways for solving these issues (and making it more intuitive and faster):
    A) By using the Histogram Panel, by dragging and highlighting an area on it, that it should load the selected luminosity pixels as a selection, as shown in figure 1:
      figure 1
    So the result of doing that will be a selection based on the area of the histogram that have been highlighted.
    B) By creating a new Adjustment Layer:
    It can be based in the same structure of the HUE Adjustment Layer, like figure 2 shows:
    Figure 2
    Or it can be this way (much better). Figure 3:
    Figure 3
    The selection can also be controlled by using the Click and Drag as suggested in the figure 1, as shown in the figure 4:
    Figure 4
    The overlaid highlighting over the histogram can be functional or just a mere graphic representation of the Range and Fade Selector. The "Fading" areas should be also be draggable in order to increase smooth the selection. However, the smoothing can be much better done with the Refining Selection tool and it can be ignored from this new tool.
    In any of these cases, the adjustments should give real time feedback when growing or shrinking selection; we must see the selection going bigger or smaller and also, the highlighted area should be draggable as well.
    TOOLS PANEL:
    Brush: detect edges while painting on masks (for manual mask refining. It would work similar to the Replace Color Brush, but only for masks and alfa channels). It also needs a shortcut to set the opacity.
    Dodge & Burn: Protect Tones should be allowed when painting on masks or alfa channels (for manual mask refining). D&B can also use edge detection as well.
    FILTERS:
    Some of them, like the ones involving Blur or the High-Pass and the Unsharp Mask filter, should work in real time (these ones, at the least).
    It can also added a Particle Generator Filter.
    It would be really nice having the ability to create particles such as dust, fog, rain, snow, etc in a more realistic manner than just the scattering function from the Brush Palette, or by mixing different filters with different blends. The Particle Generator should have an slider to control the depth of field, so it will give a feeling of depth and also, a way to load masks, so that way, the particles can exists before the image and also, behind. It would be great for creating a nice feeling of depth (kind of a bokeh effect).
    I've been playing with After Effect few times, and the way to create shapes and forms from nothing is the way of easier than in Photoshop.
    TIME LINE:
    I think it's time give dynamism the filters applied to a movie clip, and also, dynamics to the fade effects, like it happens in After Effects by adding Bezier Curves.
    HISTOGRAM:
    It should be possible to zoom in into the histogram, for a more precise feedback and analysis of the image tonal values.
    ADDITIONAL FEATURES:
    The fade tool should work in real time.
    Loupe/Magnificator View:
    This is very useful when it comes to edit and image in detail, with a lot of zoom, like 3200%. Unfortunately, Photoshop doesn't provide a real time feedback in an additional window, such as the Window/Arrange/New Window For […].
    It would be really useful having a window showing the image at fit on the screen while working on the other window at 100% or 3200% of zoom, but in real time. This way, you can see if you're doing a good job on the pixels or, if you're overdoing it.
    It happens that, when working with big images at 100% of the image size (or more), the brain cannot figure out how is looking the whole image, so having a realtime feedback in the other window would help a lot for detailled work.
    And why not, ading the same real time structure descrived above but to the Navigator, for faster and lighter use of the hardware capabilities. Probably, adding a check box to the navigator that blocks it to a given zoom, so when zooming into the image in the navigator, the image shown in the window isn't magnified too.
    Give me a chance to show you some examples of what I have done by improvising particles and fog about 5 years ago:
    http://mart1980.deviantart.com/gallery/5027033#/d1m119x
    And what I did 7 years ago by manually, selecting different shades of gray and using just Levels for 8 hours (which coule be done faster and easier with another tool I thought, which I will post later):
    I cannot post examples of the other features I'm suggesting because there are not such new features yet (I would have to create an hipothetical enviroment, but I think, you can fiure it out in your mind).
    Unfortunately, I don't know programing, even though, I tried something with Filter Factory, achieving good results, but that pluging consumes too much resources and/or is bad designed/have not the right tools for certain things.
    Hope this post is enough worthy of the Adobe's attention.
    Thanks,
    س

    This is a poorly explained reason about why is so important having a loupe in Photoshop. I've not also, used the best example, but I will. This belongs to the ADDITIONAL FEATURES: Loupe/Magnificator View:. Also, I will try to make my english clrearer, but here it goes:
