Query Performance & Turning off graph

Since we've upgraded from BW3.5 to BI 7.0, query performance deteriorated.  The same query now runs longer in BI 7 than compared to in BW 3.5, especially for queries that return large sets of data.
For example, one query took 4 minutes 30 seconds in BW 3.5, but takes 10 minutes in BI 7.0
File size also increase from 6,500 Kb in BW 3.5 to 16,000 Kb in BI 7.0
I believe it takes longer to format the data after retrieval, and it was trying to plot 17,000 records on the the embeded chart. But after we've unhidden and deleted the chart, file size almost dropped half, to about 7,600 Kb.
I believe the embedded graph is a nice-to-have, but it all depends how the data is plotted to detgermine the meaningfulness of the grapah - which is not in most cases for us and hence the graph is not too measningful.
Does anyone know if there is a way to turn off / disable the auto pre-plotting of graph in BI 7?
I believe that this should improve query performance if it is disabled..
Many thanks for your help.
Lawrence

Just to add that: for smaller queries, the time and size dfference are not significant, but large queries are taking significantly longer (and larger in file size in BI 7)..

  • HT204409 Many People Report Improved Performance Turning off WMM.

    I am confused by http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3727
On my NetGear WNR834 router I turned off WMM and got dramatically improved download speeds - from <1MBps to over 20MBps.  No other changes - just that one setting.  I got the same improvement on my iPhone 4S, iPad II, and even a Samsung Galaxy Tab.  All the devices connected before the change and have connected successfully after.
Apparently many others had the same experience - see the dialogue at https://discussions.apple.com/message/11366976#11366976.
Has the advice in the above Tech Support response been validated?  Is there some downside that I have not yet experienced?
    Thanks.

    Hello All -
I have been searching the issue of writing/updating .XMP data files trying to get an idea of it's merits vs potential problems. With more than one search leading me to this thread I hope I am in the correct thread. I'll be honest and say that since the V1.1 release, I'm scrambling for information and understanding. Watching the vid's and reading all the .pdf I can get continues to keep me unsure on what seem to be very basic settings and practices.
Would any consider it good practice with the new catalog system to break up one's existing V1.0 database (now large catalog file) into smaller catalog's? Or, keep an all inclusive catalog as we did with 1.0?
It seems most do not choose to autowrite .xmp in settings. I followed that path when setting up V1.1. Noting that I am still using the one large catalog file created on upgrade, should I have synchronized my metadata at some point? Most of my photos show "resolve conflict" in the right panel metadata field. Should I do one large "synch" and if so any advice from the experienced on how best to manage/update, if needed, this synchronization would be greatly appreciated.
I have not experienced many of the slow-downs or processor usage some have spoken of. I have approx 2500 pics (with 5000 to come) that where in one large v1.0 file. Now it seems I can break this file up and fully use both my XPSGen2 PIV 2.4ghz Centrino, 2gbRAM with approx 200gb of space between my HD and a Maxtor 3200 USB?
With the specs listed on the above post, it looks like Lightroom will need much more spec than what I have.?.?.? Comments welcome.
Again, I hope this is the correct thread for this post and have made myself as clear as a slightly confused can. ;-)
    Thanks!

Hi, all, Why should we turn off query cache when alternative UOM solution is used?I found it in "Checklist for Query Performance", but I dont know why.
Please tell me if u know.
PS: I also dont know how to turn off the cache, Need your help, thanks!

    hi ,
I have also some confusion regarding Cache Parameters . What is the importance of cache ,  Should we delete the cache memory time to time for each query ? I have chked it in RSRT but never use the chache monitor function .

  • Can I turn off Autofit for tables in Query Builder?

Using SQL Developer 3.2.20 and tabbing between the Query Builder and Worksheet always Autofits the height of the tables. Since the tables I'm using are in Enterprise Business Suite they have hundreds of rows making the graphical reprentation almost useless without resizing the table objects.
Is there any way to turn off this "feature"?
I am a new user of Query Developer and am using version 3.2.20.09.
I copied in a sql statement, clicked the query builder tab, visualized my sql statements and resized all the objects so they were viewable. Then when I click on the Worksheet tab and then click on the Query builder tab again all my objects are autofit to the height of the table and it takes about 15 minutes to size them again so I can see all the joins in the gui display - which is the point of the graphical interface.
    Edited by: 969018 on Nov 1, 2012 2:13 PM

Thank you for confirming what I suspected.
If there was a workaround that allowed under the View menu to resize all objects to fit the current window, that would be an acceptable choice. It would seem if the box can be drawn to the maximum size that shows all the columns in the table, then maybe an easy override would be draw the table showing only one column??
Do you work on the development team for SQL Developer?
Another idea would be to be able to zoom out so the resizing of objects would be easier.
Unfortunately your good suggestion of starting with Query Builder and finishing up requires more skill than I posses when working with many tables. I find it necessary to go back to the visual representation to understand all of my joins when I get many tables and then have a problem with my query. If only I could write it correct the first time.

  • When using the rectangle tool in CS5, a graph appears in the shape. How do I turn the graph off?

When using the rectangle tool in CS5, a graph appears in the shape. How do I turn the graph off?
    Thanks!

It might be the pixel grid if your zoomed in greater than something like 500% to 700%.
Go under View>Show and uncheck Pixel Grid.
Or maybe you have a layer style set in the tool options bar for shape layers.

  • Turning off BIA for an individual query

    Hi,
Can anybody where I can go to turn off BIA for a specific query?
    Thanks

    Hi BW Novice,
I think there is a little bit of confusion within this thread regarding your problem. There are also wrong answers, I am afraid. If I understood you right you want to turn off a BIA index for a specific query, i.e., all other queries that touch the respective cube will still be processed by BIA.
If you follow thoroughly the below steps you will probably get what you need:
    1) Goto to transaction SE16 and enter RSRREPDIR as the table name and click the Table Contents button (upper left.)
    2) In the resulting selection screen, enter the name for the INFOCUBE that you would like to switch off for the query and press execute (the tick symbol.) Before, in order to help yourself in finding the correct query name later more easily, you might want to choose Settings  -> Fields for Selection from the menu and then check the COMPID field in the resulting window.
    3) In the resulting RSRREPDIR screen, the queries are listed by name in the column COMPID. Select the respective query and then press the Change button (the little pencil symbol.)
    4) There will be a list of fields displayed. Goto NOHPA (you might have to scroll a little bit further down) and check it, i.e., set it to true.
That's it. Do not forget to set the flag back after your tests have been done.
    Best regards,
    Sascha.

  • Turn off a single plot of a multiple plot waveform graph

I have a multiple plot waveform graph (4 plots). I want to turn off one of the plots, say plot 2. Is this posible from the graphs property node? The property node seems to only give a reference to plot 0. I am using labview 7.
    Cheers,
    Wayne

I think you can use "active plot" together with "plot.visible"
property node to control which one you'd like to display. By default,
the property node refers to plot 0, but you can change to plot 1 or
other plots by changing active plot property node. You can search
"Plot" in LabVIEW Help if you'd like to know details.
    Good luck,
    Jian

  • A query about turning the hub off?

Well, just a query really.  Every night when I turn the computer off, I turn the switch off at the plug, thus turning the power off on the hub.  Is this such a good idea, or should I leave the hub on all the time?  I'm wondering if I'm doing the hub more harm than good.
    Thanks.

    Hi Louise,
Turning off the Hub each night won't harm it but you'll get a better connection, speeds etc. if you leave it on all the time 24/7, just check that it's got plenty of space around it for ventilation and there are power saving settings you can apply, to save electricity, not that it uses  much anyway.

  • Turning off 504 non reporting performance collection rules in the Exchange 2010 MP

    Hello
I read the following MS article about tuning the Exchange 2010 Management Pack
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2592561
It advises to turn off 504 non reporting performance collection rules, then only turn back on the ones of interest.
However it does not state how to identify / locate these 504 rules. I would prefer to find/disable them via PowerShell rather than manually.
Can someone please advise how to locate these 504 rules please and disable on mass.
    Thanks
    AAnotherUser__
    AAnotherUser__

you’ll need a script that performs the following steps:
Retrieve the management pack in which to store the overrides
Retrieve the class that will be targeted by the override
Retrieve the rules or monitors that will be disabled
    Disable the rule or monitor
To disable bulk of rule, Here is the sample that disables all rules matching the “*events/sec*” filter.
    $MP =
    Get-SCOMManagementPack -displayname
    "Exchange 2010 Overrides" |
    `
    where {$_.Sealed
    -eq $False}
    $Class =
    Get-SCOMClass -DisplayName
    "Exchange Performance rule"
    $Rule =
    Get-SCOMRule -DisplayName
    "*Events/sec"
    Disable-SCOMRule
    -Class $Class -Rule
    $Rule -ManagementPack
    $MP -Enforce

  • Macbook pro 17 turns off when switching to high performance mode

    Hi guys!
My 2009 Macbook pro 17 turns off and goes dead when switching to "high performance" graphics in the energy saver controll panel.
This happens also when the battery is 100% charged. i must reconnect powersupply to reboot.
The battery is new, from june this year.

It will not do any harm trying it but you are probably correct in these circumstances.
If the symptoms are consistent, then a savvy technician at an Apple store genius bar should be able to define the problem.

  • The "mac book" pro turns off after performing the internet recovery

we had the macbook pro and we put in a new hard drive and when we press the power button it turns on and has a flashing file qith a question mark on it and we did the internet recovery thing but after its done it just turns off again. please help

The battery has an integrated microchip that acts as a "fuel gauge." Calibration resets this gauge, which allows the OS to better determine times to charge and discharge the battery. Calibration should be done approximately every two months. Failure to do so for a long period of time can result in the microchip "fuel gauge" in the battery losing the ability to accurately determine the remaining charge, and it will report that there is more charge in the battery than is actually present. As a result, the computer will not initiate Safe Sleep at the proper time, and instead undergo a hard shut down, one of the main causes of hard drive directory damage.

  • Turning off visual effects for performance purposes

I've recently started using a Mac. I've been a PC user all my life, so I'm unfamiliar with how my new machine works.
I'm going to be using this computer for audio recording, and with that, I want as much power out of my computer as I can get. I know with Windows, there are ways to turn off visual effects, like window shadows and things like that in order to save processing power for other things. Is there a way to strip down OS X in the same way?

back in the day (OS 7/8/9) you had what was called t he extension manager. when i would work in cubase i had an extension set that was stripped down - similar to what you are asking.
now things are different. OS X is very efficient.
the only thing you need to do is only run the apps you need to have open (don't have mail, internet, etc. running while recording)
there are 3rd party apps that will remove window shadows, etc. - but I don't think it is necessary.
Max out your ram, and only run the apps you need running and you should be fine.

  • My 1st generation iPad will not turn off and I have performed the suggested fix. What's next?

My iPad will not turn off. I have done the off/sleep key home button procedure.

Just to be perfectly clear, when you reset the iPad by hod,ing down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10 seconds until the Apple logo appears on the screen, that is a way of resetting the system and restrating the device. If you want to shut down, you still have to hold down on the power button until the slider appears and then slide to the right to shut the iPad off.
IS this what you are doing and if so what happens when you try to shut down? Describe what happens in detail.
