Query variant in rsrt

In RSRT, there is an option to create a query variant. How can we use this? I have a variable on 0calmonth and I want to create variants based on this so I can use it in a APD process. How can I do this? Thanks

Hi Uday,
You can create and maintain the query variants in RSRT. Type in the name of the query and click to execute it. The variable screen will pop-up and you can create the variant here. Or also you can click onthe Variants button and change any existing variants as required.

I am trying to create query variants in RSRT. I am able to do it for most of the queries. But there are couple of queries for which I am not able to save it. Has anyone come across this issue before.
FYI - We are right now on SAP 7.31 and SP 4.

Hi Kal,
Did you upgraded to BW7.31 recently?. if yes, run the report: RSR_VARIANT_XPRA.. This is the post upgrade activity. Can you check with the basis team run the same first in SAN system and then in actual landscape.

Creating Query Variant

Hi,
I am trying to create a query variant in BI7. I want the values to be populated from TVARVC table. In RSRT, if i am giving Create variant, i am getting the next screen to enter the values.(same as we get in 3.5). but it does not show the query fields. It is showing these fields in attributes.

If you are on BI 7 better to handle the variants in table RSRVARIANT than TVARVC.
You can write code to update the table RSRVARIANT as per requirement.

How to transport Query variant used in APD

Hello Experts,
I have created 2 query variants for a query in Development system. And, these variants are being used in APD. Now, when APD is transported to next system, query variants does not exist in next system, so cannot execute APD.
Please let me know how can i transport the query variants.
Note: Gone through SDN, and found, query variants can be transported through some tables.
Please let me any other possibile sloutions for the same.

Hi Lavanya,
To the best of my knowledge, you cannot transport query variants. You have to manually create them in each system. The reason being, when you try to create variants through RSRT -> Query Variants, you are basically trying to create variants for a temporary program generated during run time!
These run time programs do not have TADIR entries (not transportable) and hence any sub elements (like variants) created on these programs are not transportable as well.
Actually you can export variants.Please follow the below steps:
1. Go To TCode SE38.
2. Execute "RSTRANSP".
3. Input your program name.
4. Input your variant name ie. "Z**** ".
5. Execute.
6. Click on continue.
7. You should be able to create a new transport at this point.

Copy Query Variants from InfoCube to MultiProvider

Hi,
Is it possible to copy query variants from an infocube to a multiprovider?
Basically, we used RSZC to copy the queries from the infocube to the multiprovider, but it doesn't look like the variants were copied over. Is there an ABAP program or some other workaround that can expedite/facilitate in recreating the variants on the multiprovider queries?

It is possible to copy but the only requirement is your target cube structure should match with the source cube structure.

How to disable GLOBAL query variants in Portal (ANALYSIS Template)

Hello Experts,
Does anybody know how to disable the saving of global query variants on the selection screen?
Currently if anybody goes in and saves the variant with Description and puts something in the Technical Name, it saves that variant as global, so that everybody can see it. If they put something in the description only and leave the technical name blank, then it saves the variant as local. Therefore, how would I go about disabling the saving of global query variants?

Execute generated query report in RSRT

Hello experts,
I tried to execute the generated report for a query in transaction RSRT and it failed ("query not found on server" was the error). Now my question is more general - what is this report for? Is it just a "background program" for a query and should not/cannot be executed in SE38? Can you execute your generated query programs in SE38?

Basically the queries are Subroutine Pools and you can call this in ABAP.

Bex Query variants not working

Hello Experts,
I have a unique problem with one of my queries, the query variants which are created before Nov 1 are not fetching any vaules instead it gives a message MAKE ENTRY IN ALL THE FIELDS......
the variants which are created in Nov are working fine.....we have not done any upgrade....
does anyone faced this kind of problem? what needs to done to get back the variant values in the selection screen.

Was there a change to an InfoObject that is in the InfoProvider that is also one of the query input options?
e.g. IO ZHARA used to be defeined as a Char with a length of 4, but was changed after Nov 1 to Char, length of 8.
If you change an IO like this that is in the variant, that will render the variant unusable.
There is a program that checks for variants that have been broken like this, and another that you enter the query's technical name and it repairs the variant.
Try a search on SDN for something like "query variant program". I'll post the program names after I get back in the office tomorrow.

Query Variant in APD not working properly

Guyz,
I have an issue using a Query Variant in APD.
My APD has data populating from a Query to a DSO.
When I run the query itself by using the variant it runs fine
but when i use the same query variant in the APD its giving an error.
I am saving the varaint for current Fiscal year period
i.e say 0072008 (as july 2008) and when i run query itself with this variant its fine but when i use the same in APD its giving the following error.
*" Value "08007" for variable "Fiscal Year/Period (Selection Options, Optional)" is invalid "*
Its interpreting the variant in a wrong way.
We are on BI 7.0 patch 14.

Can we transport BW QUERY VARIANT (created in DEV) to QAS and PRD?

Hi gurus,
I created a lot of QUERY VARIANT ( parameters saved when we execute queries ) in BW DEV.
I am using those variants in my Analisys Process Designer and i do not want to create again in QAS and PRD.
Somebody knows how to transport those variants?
Is possible to assign by SE03? What is the code that object?

I transported my Query Variants.
- Variants must be created in DEV
- Download the records from:
> tables
RSRVARIANT
RSRVARIANTDIR
RSRVARIANTTXT
> Filter Field: VARI = "Query Variants Code"
- Create request in DEV
- Assign R3TR TABU <Table name>
Tables:
RSRVARIANT
RSRVARIANTDIR
RSRVARIANTTXT
- Save the contents in each table (Only KEY FIELDS)
- Verify the Lenght in each field, it must be correct (no spaces for each Field)

I had copied standard querys (ME80FN) Program RM06EAAW to my custom program
In that program , it is caaling a query and assigning one variant
Any idea from when that variant was assigned or How to create variants for ABAP Queries??

Track of users for deleted query variants

I'm not sure if the technical content will help, I guess that activating the statistics and other technical content you can audit it, but, I think it will necessary turn on some function, unfortunately I don't know which one is necessary.

BEX Query variant - how to make it Global ?

We have a problem that we did not have in 3.x. In NW04s, when some one saves a query variant, it can be seen/accessed only by that person. We have a need to make it global so that other users in the division can use the variant to run the query. Does anybody know to make this work?
I looked at the table RSRPARAMETRIZA and the field PERSONAL is always set to 'X' for variants created in BEX (using new BEX tool). We tried to blank this out (for testing) to see if the variant becomes global. But it did not help, in fact after this change whenever I choose this variant it kicks me out and I have to login again.
Any input/workaround is appreciated.

As of NetWeaver 2004s variants (created in the BI70 runtime) are stored as an XML string inside of the table RSRPARAMETRIZA. In BW3.5 and before they were stored along with ABAP variants within the table VARI.

Change a query variant using a program for APD

Hello everyone,
Some background:
We have a complex reporting based on calculated key figures (CKF). However, the business rules do change over time, and the formulas for CKF get outdated. So the business meaning of CKF remains the same, but the way it gets calculated - changes.
Yesterday CKF "A" = B + C
Today CKF "A" = B + D - F
Since the customer requires reporting for the former periods, maintaining several CKF of the same business meaning but calculated differently for each period becomes a problem.
Instead of having several versions of CKF "A", we decided to use APD, to periodically run the query with valid CKF, save the query results to transactional ods, then move it to another infocube. Now we will have the infocube with figures and dates, and the customer needs to maintain just one CKF "A".
After trying this out we've encountered following issue:
Since the query will run periodically we must use a time period filter (in fact - variable on a time characteristic - APD is not working with filter) to select CKF valid for this month for example.
The query in APD can work with variables only via query variants.
Now, the question is how to change the query variant automatically?
We can not force the customer to create new query variants each month for dozens of reports.
We plan to integrate APD in the process chain (although we haven't check how it works), where the query variant will be changed using a program.
so please advice:
1) is there any function module to change query variants in the background
2) which tables contain the query variant, so we can change it using abap
3) may be you can suggest other options to make it work

This code will always maintain the entry for the variable 'ZDATE_INV' as range from the start of month till current month.
you can modify it store anything yuou want.
Now when creating the variant by clicking the create variant option when running the query.
you have the option in the "selection variable" column here you will find only TVARVC table as option select it and then in "name of variable" use the Z variable you have just created.
This will automatically pick the current value for the variant for that variable.
So anytime the variant is used in any of the scheduling it will pick the inout from here.
make sure that the variable for time interval is of same type as that of the entry in the TVARVC table.
That if it is of type calmonth then TVARVC table should have variable entry of type calmonth.

I'm looking for the BI tables where BEx 7.0 saves query variants, but I don't find nothing.
In BW 3.5 there were Table RSRVARIANT, but in BI 7.0?

thanks, I found my query variants RSRPARAMETRIZA.
In RSRPARAMETRIZA there aren't information about single variable who make the variant!
In RSRVARIANT I find only variants I have created with Business explorer 3.5.
All variants of queries I have created with BEx 7 aren't in RSRVARIANT,
Should I have them in RSRVARIANT?!
or There is another table for those information about variant query of BEx 7.0...
