Querying Apple lom via open-source ipmitool on Linux

Has anyone managed to remotely access the LOM of an Apple (e.g., an Intel-based Xserve) with the latest release of the open source version of ipmitool compiled on Linux (or some other platform)? The command line options that appear to work when I run ipmitool from an Apple to query another Apple's LOM, i.e.,
IPMITool -U username -H hostname.com chassis status
results in an "invalid username" error when I try it with the binary I compiled.

modprobe i2c-/ dev/core/isa and w83781d, after you can use sensors.
I understand corecell as aa extra setup chip that can change rpm of fans and voltages etc while pc is running.

Apple going to open source to 3rd party apps?

I read that apple was opening their software to 3rd party software developers. I thinnk that it's great, not only do I want to listen to music on the plane but I want to be able to play solitare, for example, or many other of the cool apps being developed. When can we expect to download apps to the phone to ENHANCE the experience?

Apple is releasing an iPhone SDK - software developers kit in February reportedly to select developers only but the select part may or may not be true but depending on the application, I don't expect to see much being available during February.

Good site for Video Editing tools (open source)

I'm a recent convert to Mac, and I'm having a hard time finding comparable tools to what is available via open source on the Windows side. Specifially in the H.264 arena. There are a multitude of open source encoding tools for Windows. I'm sure there have to be some for Mac. Are there any good sites that list these? I'm tried versiontracker and The Mac Orchard, but I'm hoping for something more specific like VideoHelp.com
Any suggestions? I'm looking for encoding software that can do inverse telecine, import DivX/Xvid/DV, Trim video (to remove letterboxing), and encode to H.264.

Open Source?

Why can't Oracle release their ODP .NET classes as open source so that as a community we can integrate ODP more closely into the VS .NET environment, include it in Mono and even provide fixes more quickly when a problem comes up (with a 1.0 product like ODP is, it's likely to have quite a number of issues that will need to be addressed before version 1.1 comes out). I know Oracle is supporting open source projects on Linux.. why can't something as fundamental as data access classes be opened up for community involvement for .net?

We released a preview of DTrace which is made available to Oracle Linux support subscribers.Just asking about how it's organized. Is it open source or not? Subscribers might get a supported version, but it doesn't explain whether the source is available or not. What about the relation to the another DTrace for Linux project? (Totally independent or not, etc.). If it's open source, collaboration would make sense to avoid duplicating the effort.

Sorry, I don't have those answers. Just what are you looking for anyway? Apple's open source repository, such as it is, is pretty much ignored by everyone. Apparently nobody even bothered to look for things like the old "goto fail" bug that sat there in the open for years and essentially disabled all certificate checking on Macs and iOS. I have seen a few people who actually tried to compile something from it. They usually get frustrated pretty quickly. Many of those projects have dependencies on code that isn't public. In theory, that is what you would want to do if you actually wanted to modify some open source product included in OS X so you could get the exact same build settings. In practice, that is virtually impossible. If you want real open source, you aren't going to find it at Apple. And why do you care about Objective-C anyway? Apple just killed it with Swift. It is a dead-end language.
I'm interested in the Objective-C source code because I was wondering if there might be a way to make something better than today's Objective-C++ with today's C++ (C++11/14/1z, etc., …) in order to fix today's Objective-C++. I was thinking of calling the project 'Objective-C++ Re:coded' or something like that. Besides, I'm curious about how Objective-C works and wanted to save it from the dustbin. If this pans out, somebody might be able to create a version of Swift written in its results!

What happened to the Apple open source software page?

I have used a lot of the open source software that Apple listed on their website. The address used to be:

But that just directs to a cheesy downloads page with links to app store, etc.
Does anybody know what happend to this part of the Apple web site? Is it just moved and I'm too dumb to find it? I've tried to search these forums, and the googles, but nothing coherant comes through!

This is the developer page though, and doesn't contain the wealth of applications that were hosted (and kept up to date). These included GIMP, carbon emacs, etc.
I realize many of these are available from macports, or even by building from the source in many cases, but some of these programs seem to have been only hosted and updated from this page.

HT1338 What about open source, etc. apps? Integration of Software Update into App Store, Apple registration a problem?

A review in the Seattle Times recently indicated that in Mountain Lion all apps would have to be registered with Apple. I use lots of 3rd party apps, many open source, that are unlikely to be willing to pay Apple to register. I've been anxious about upgrading to Mountain Lion for this reason.
The description in the Mountain Lion promo suggests to me that my concern may be inappropriate. It looks like they've basically migrated Software Update into the App Store. For most of the 3rd party stuff, Software Update is irrelevant. As long as I can manage my 3rd party apps as I have traditionally done (some I never update, others notify me of needed updates when I use them - they check themselves), I don't mind if Apple has repositioned its automated update service for more mainstream apps including its own.
Have I got this right, or should I be concerned about support for 3rd party apps and their maintenance?

That procedure just runs a query and returns it as XML.
To show it on the page, you just embed the Flash player in a HTML region.

Error trying to open source media - Compressor 1.2.1

I have a problem with a movie that have been sent to me. I seem unable to add it to a batch in Compressor or in Final Cut Pro 4.5 HD for the that matter.I'm using QuickTime 7.0.3 adn Mac OS X 10.4.3
When ever I had it to Compressor I get this error:
"Alert: Error trying to open source media file"

And when I import it into Final Cut I get this error:
"File Error: 1 file(s) recognized, 0 access denied, 1 unknown."

The settings for the offending movie are:
Format: H.264, 640x480, Millions, AAC, Stereo (L R), 22.050kHz
FPS: 29.97
Data Rate: 90 kbytes/sec
Key Frame: Every 300 Frames
The only difference between my test, which works fine, and this file is the frame rate (mine is at 25fps) and the number of audio channels (my test was in mono).
The file I was sent was encoded in Compressor, not sure which one - but I think it might be version 2.
The strange thing is it opens in QuickTime fine. I've tried exporting from QuickTime Pro as another h.264 with mono sound with no joy. I've tried saving a reference of the movie to see if that works, again no joy.
The only way I can get Compressor to accept the file is by transcoding it to another codec, like Soreson 3. Then FCP and Compressor are happy.
What I can't work out is why the h.264 file I made is fine (and any file I still make as well), and the one I was sent is not. I'm also having the same problem with an h.264 file I downloaded from Apple QuickTime Trailers, and an another I found on the web.
Updates that have been done recently incase they might have caused the problem are 10.4.3 and installing Motion 2 Trail (since removed), which wanted to update Pro Application Support (this might be the problem?).
Any help greatly apprieated

I just tried the offending movie file on my Powerbook, it has never seen Motion 2 or those Pro Application Support updates - and it gets the same error.
Very odd indeed - any ideas?

How to parse crystal report query prompt value via url parameters

I am creating a employee detail report in crystal report. The recordset is huge and i have created a parameter prompts in the query and thinking to parse the prompt value via url parameters. Not sure why i still could not make it works.
for example, in my query panel i have created a prompt called "pwwid"
and this is how i parse the prompt value via open document url.

I read the sap documentation, this is how it parse the prompt value via url parameter. but it is not working for me and i am getting prompt to fill in the wwid whenever i run the reports.

Open source shopping cart wont open with safari

Hi all...
I'm designing cart templates for a company that supplies an interface for uploading product to an open source shopping cart. The problem is I can't open the shopping carts with safari. They are fine with firefox and on a PC. (forgive me for swearing) The sites are open source carts based on php scripting with a lot of compressed data. A software interface is used to upload products etc... The error I get is
"Safari can’t open the page “not sure if I can put the link here as it is a business”. The error was: “bad server response” (NSURLErrorDomain:-1011) Please choose Report Bug to Apple..."
It's the same for all the sites using the carts.
Is there a fix at the user end or does safari simply not have support for these carts. Any help would be awesome....

PCI Compliance. As a merchant (online or brick & mortar store), you must take necessary steps to ensure your customer's CC info doesn't fall into the wrong hands. One way to do this is to pass your online customers off to a 3rd party processor like PayPal or Authorize.net. These companies are experts in safely gathering sensitive data, encrypting it and transmitting it to your payment Gateway and Merchant Bank account. This way, your customers never enter any sensitive data into your site's databases which avoids a lot of headaches for the web developer and merchant.
Server Security. Use a reliable web host. I can't emphasize this enough. Cheap hosting is no bargain especially if your host doesn't take reasonable steps to secure their servers at their end.
Lock down your php scripts & form log-ins to defend your site against possible hackers & robot exploitation. If your site is ever compromised, you will need reliable backups of your Site files and MySql data. Make sure to backup these files regularly and store them in a safe place.
Backend log-in. Use strong, encrypted passwords -- 17 characters, upper & lower case with symbols. If you can remember your passwords, they're not strong enough. I keep mine written down in a Rolodex.
Change the Admin log-in name to something less obvious like GrandHighExhaltedMysticRuler or something only you will recognize as the site's admin level user. It's also a good idea to change your server, database and backend log-ins regularly.
Finally, consider running SecureLive on your web server. I have it running on a dedicated server and this software has more than paid for itself. It identifies hacker attempts, blocks the user and sends the hacker's IP address to an FBI database. SecureLive - Home

Yoga 13: any chance for open source Synaptics touchpad driver or touchpad API?

The Yoga is my 1st Windows machine in years. Coming from various MacBook(s) Pro(s) I dearly miss the capabilities and configurability of Apple's multitouch touchpad. While responsibility of the Synaptics device is fairly decent I haven't found an experience that is anything close to the one perceived on the MacBook touchpad. Latter in combination with BetterTouchTool is my weapon of choice when it comes to productivity. It offers almost unlimited configurability, that is, I can design/configure any gesture I desire and link it to a keystroke for instance. It's just perfect since I am not into Apple's predefined gesture settings at all.
Now I have spent endless hours in getting this back on my new Yoga. At least I am now able to use 3 finger swipes for back/forward navigation. However, this is just a fraction of what I need/want. That's why I am looking for a way to either be able to modify the driver myself (open source, Lenovo/Synaptics?) or get access to an API I can build on. Obviously I'd prefer latter option. Synaptics is touting their Gesture Suite but I cannot find a download somewhere. I'm afraid it's OEM only. And if that's the config app that comes with the standard Synaptics driver it's just pathetic.
So does anyone have a clue on how we can significantly improve the performance of this otherwise very nice laptop?

A plea to Adobe: Make Homesite open source

I know this won't go anywhere, but I need to ask anyway.
Please please please, make Homesite open source.
I have tried other editors over the years but I come back to
HS every time. Macromedia ignored Homesite when they bought
Allaire, now Adobe is ignoring it after buying Macromedia. Homesite
is a wonderful code editor, but it needs some tender loving care
after being ignored for years.
Keep it commercial, it doesn't have to be free. But please,
open up the source. Let the few of us that still use it make it
better.

I finally broke down and got CS4 and included Dreamweaver based on user groups saying in code view it is *almost* like Homesite.
argh... the ambiguity of *almost*...

I still have homesite installed... there is NOTHING like HOMESITE!
Hand coders do not want all the bells and whistles of Dreamweaver!!!!!
