Question about 2nd gen itouch
will it ever have all of the OS4 features? or are we permanently screwed?
According to Apple and due to the hardware limitations in the 2nd Gen., it will never have ALL of the features. Just what you have now with iOS 4 if you have it installed.

Questions about 2nd gen AppleTV
I have a 1st gen AppleTV and see no reason to upgrade. However, after using youtube on the 1st gen, I'd like to know how well youtube and vimeo work on the 2nd gen. On the 1st gen, if you watch several youtube videos, you have to back out (click menu button) of all those videos plus a few more clicks to get out of youtube before you are back at the main menu. Does the 2nd gen work this way?
It is probably more youtube, but sometimes, buffering takes a while before a video will play.
I'm not sure how the 1st gen selects youtube video resolution (360, 480, 720, 1080). Does any one know? Does any one know how the 2nd gen selects youtube resolution?
How does the 2nd gen select between HD and regular resolution on Vimeo?
I do have a TV that can play 1080p but all of my iTunes videos max at 720p. Is the 2nd gen still max resolution of 720p like the 1st gen?
thanks. You Tube is pretty much the same on both, including resolution, buffering is likely caused by your network or internet connection. I have no information about Vimeo, the Apple TV 2 can still only play 720p.

Solitaire City on 2nd Gen. iTouch
I've got Solitaire City on my 2nd gen iTouch. Here's my question for the group. When playing a game and you move a card from the field to the "home row", a bell sounds. On my iTouch I hear a crackle when the bell sounds. I'm just wondering if anyone else hears the same thing, or do i have a screwed speaker.
I hope to hear from others.
Thanks- Purchase and install version 3.0 of the iPhone/Touch software from the iTunes Store.
- Go into Settings>General and set Bluetooth to On.
Note: The only Bluetooth devices that the Touch will currently sync with are stereo speakers and headphones (NOT headset/mic combos such as you would use with a cell phone). -
The backlight on my 2nd gen itouch has quit...
The backlight on my 2nd gen itouch has quit... I restored the restored the software, but it didn't help - I'm sure its a hardware problem. Does anyone know what the fix for this might cost? Thanks
I couldn't see any other similar questions until this posted just a second ago - in case in helps with the diagnosis, the backlight does come on intermittently, which made me think it was a software problem, but now I'm just not sure.I would make an appontment at the Genius Bar of an Applew store. It is free except for your time. Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished 2G for:
Apple - Support - iPod - Repair pricing
A third-party place may be less expensive: Here us one. Google for more.
iPhone Repair, Service & Parts: iPod Touch, iPad, MacBook Pro Screens
However, it may not be worth it for a 2G iPod. -
cannot connect to home wi-fi connection with my 2nd gen itouch even after following most troubleshooting solutions. i have 2 5-gen itouch ipods and a kindle fire hd 8.9 that can connecto to my wi-fi network and even download from my e-mail accounts with no problem. it had no problem connecting with my old a/b/g netgear router nor the first time i installed my new netgear wndr3700v3 router. since then, no connection. don't know what happened.
helpDoes the iOS device connect to other networks?
Does the iOS device see the network?
Any error messages?
Do other devices now connect?
Did the iOS device connect before?
Try the following to rule out a software problem:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Power off and then back on the router
- Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
- iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
- Wi-Fi: Unable to connect to an 802.11n Wi-Fi network
- iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
- Restore from backup. See:
iOS: How to back up
- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.
Apple Retail Store - Genius Bar
Could it be this:
iOS: Wi-Fi or Bluetooth settings grayed out or dim
One user reported that placing the iPod in the freezer fixed the problem. A trick that works frequently with iPhones:
Settings > AirPlane Mode ON, Do Not Disturb ON
Power down and wait 5-10 minutes
Power up
Settings > AirPlane Mode OFF, Do Not Disturb OFF
If not successful, an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is usually in order.

2nd Gen itouch: I am using Outlook Express on my PC & wish to continue doing so.
Succesfully synced music, photos & bookmarks but will not sync address book. I have tried using Outlook, this does not work and have followed all insructions in manual. Can anyone help? Can anyone help?
Not here I'm afraid. This is the *Mac OS X Technologies > iSync* forum, which has nothing to do with syncing iPod touch (not iTouch) to Windows PCs.

Thanks so much.- Purchase and install version 3.0 of the iPhone/Touch software from the iTunes Store.

I updated my itunes (latest verion out as of nov/20/2012) and restored my 2nd gen itouch, now my itouch does not work properly (keeps freezing). how do i fix this?
If you restored to factory settings/new iPod and still have the problem that indicates a hardware problem.
Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store..

Question of 2nd Gen(??) iBook
Hi, I'm new to the discussions. I've had an iBook since 2000. It was kept moderalty up to date for a year or so, but it was slow, and for a time, I had no internet connection, so the need for a laptop or computer of any kind was unnesscary. I have kept it safe for the past 7 years, but for the last year and a half or so, I have had a windows PC desktop, and contuine to have it updated. I enjoy playing online games, but nothing extremly graphicly mind-bending. I digress. I spend quite a bit of my spare time while on the computer playing a game called "Runescape". I have downloaded a few of the free downloads on the Apple website that I think may help, although I must admit I don't really have a great grasp of Mac programs. I have what I believe to be the 2nd edtion of the iBook, as it has a FireWire port on the side, but not 2 USB ports. I tried to play Runescape, but it wouldn't pull up the second page. I would very much like to play the game on my laptop. Any help would be rewarded with praise and apprecation.
iBook (firewire port???) I really need helpThis really isn't the best forum for questions about an iBook. This forum is for questions about older, pre-G3, Apple laptops. Normally you'll get the most help if you ask in the iBook area appropriate for your system and question.
Anyway, as to Runescape, you might find this thread from another site helpful:
http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=184857
And just FYI, all iBooks have at least one USB port, and most have a Firewire port as well (the early colored models do not have Firewire). You might want to take a look here to definitely identify which model you have:

2nd Gen Itouch Update Software Issue - Help Required.
I've a second gen Itouch that I'm trying to update its software from 3.1.3 to 4.0 as my itouch keeps telling me to. However I plug it into itunes and press "Check for software update" and it says that 3.1.3 is the current version. Anyone help? I'd really appreciate if someone could come to my rescue as I just bought it second hand today after ages of saving and I'm so bummed that it wont let me download anything. So if anyone can help please do!
You have a 1st generation iPod touch then, not a second one. 1st gen iPod can only update to 3.1.3.
To confirm, go to Settings > General > About > Serial Number.
Then enter the serial number on this page: http://support.apple.com/specs/ -
2nd gen iTouch mic support?
I have a 2nd gen iPod touch (8 gig). I purchased a set of apple earphones with remote and mic. Although the manual for the earphones/mic/remote clearly states that they work with 2nd gen iPod touch I can only get the earphones to work. The iPod won't register that a mic is connected and the remote does not work to advance songs or adjust volume.
Is there something I'm missing here? The earphones have 3 bands on the jack and the jack is fully inserted into the iPod. I tested them using the "Voice memos" and "iTunes" programs as those are native and I would hope wouldn't involve glitches.
I also updated iTouch to OS. That didn't seem to help. Is there some sort of setting I'm missing or did Apple goof on the compatibility statements? Can anyone help?
Not here I'm afraid. This is the *Mac OS X Technologies > iSync* forum, which has nothing to do with syncing iPod touch (not iTouch) to Windows PCs.
