Question: about accessing Nik collection through Lightroom

I have recently purchased and installed Nik collection. I have no problem reaching the plug-ins in Photoshopbut can't in Lightroom (except for HDR)

Thanks! Technology senses my fear and always makes it difficult for me! Ha! I can use the Nik programs so if I have to, I'll work on them there.

I suspect there are potential issues on some systems with the Google "combined" version, when I installed it I had recieved a copy of the Google complete version free because of my purchase history. I was advised that I could install over the Individual Plugins I had. I never got as far as trying it with Lightroom, only in Elements. The plugins appeared but the load times were abysmal and I mean realy bad , far longer than the Nik individual Installs, so I dumped it and reverted to the originals. Pity cos I wanted the Sharpen Plugin that I have'nt got. After reverting all was back to normal The Nik individual Plugins load very quickly. It was this that convinced me there is a difference in the Google setup.There are people on here with far more knowledge than me, hopefully one of them can help you, alternatively you might try asking Google for help with this.

we need to have most possible flexibility because we may deploy the server for a customer with an already established Identity database ( Database Table with user details)
Also we need to have Transport level security using SSL.

-I think Securing Web Services Using the SAML or UserNameToken is what we need for authentication and autorization of web service consumers?
is that right?
-Does Sun Java System Access Manager provide flexibility to authenticate user/password with a database table content?
-How we can apply roles in Sun Java System Access Manager when we authenticate users ?

Imagine that we want to have an end to end security for our web services
we thought that we could use message level encryption to protect the soap message and also we should protect our web services from un-authenticated acess,
we will use userName token for this.
Our customer has large database which contains many user/password and role of those users.
some of web services should be available to higher role (manager) and not for all users.
so we should check a user role before we allows him/her to access a web service.
my question is whether Sun Access manager can help us with this? or there are other configuration or packages that we should apply to have this feature.
to explain more :
our client side is a swing application, users enter username/password to login into system. after they loged in, we send user/pass every time user want to request some data from some services. (is it good to send user/pass every time?)
We want Sun Access Manager to handle users authentication .
We also need to handle role related authorization, can Sun access manager handle this?

Question about showing jpeg metadata in lightroom

Hi,
I have briefly gone through the sdk material but there are some aspects that remained unclear to me. In more detail, I would like to show the RegionName tag from jpg-file in the LR metadata for searching etc. This tag includes the face recognition data from Picasa. I have already experimented with the exiftool and know how to add the names in RegionName to Subject or Keywords tag in both jpg-file and corresponding .xmp file for the raw-file. However, I would like to find an elegant solution by showing the tag in the LR directly. Before trying the make the LUA code, I would like to understand some basic principles behind the plugin programming namely:
1) How do I read the RegionName tag from the jpg-file and in which part of the plug-in? Is there a way to make LR read it every time the "Read Metadata from File" is used?
2) How do I "publish" it to appear in the Metadata panel on the right side of the LR (this is somewhat handled in the examples even though I do not understand the com.adobe.xxx reference i.e. which structure is it actually referencing to?)
Any comments and help is welcome on this or any advice where to find the information!

Mikko,
LR provides access only to some metadata fields, not all. RegionName is not one of the fields LR knows about, so you won't be able to use the SDK's metadata methods to access or display it. Typically, plugins that want to access such metadata run the free Exiftool on the images and then parse the output of Exiftool.
The ExifMeta plugin exposes all metadata that's accessible by Exiftool as custom metadata fields in LR. I suggest you try out that plugin to see if it meets your needs. If it doesn't, you can examine its source code as an example of how to use Exiftool to access and display metadata. The plugin's author Rob Cole is a frequent contributor to this forum and quite willing to answer questions.

Question about Sharing My Location through iMessage

My friend has shared her location with me through iMessage using OS8 on her iPhone 5S.
My question is, will she know when I am locating her using the access she has granted me? Will she receive an email or any other notification or indication when I click on LOCATE?

Basic question about accessing card reader from browser

Hi,
I am very new to card technology. I have a very basic and general question not directly related to java cards.
I need to write a web application that allows the user to read a card with a card reader.
For that I maybe need to write an applet that has to access a native DLL and call methods
to get the card ID. I already have that DLL (written in Delphi) that reads multi-technology cards.
Then pass that ID to the application server to retrieve complete information
about the card holder and display them on the user browser.
Please could someone guide me on useful resources for that kind of development, for example
already existing developments, personal experience, design solutions ?

One thing I forgot to tell is that I work with contactless cards and readers.
Contactless cards use radio frequency. Despite this fact, the problem stays the same. I already have a Delphi DLL that reads contactless cards.
What I need is a way to retrieve card holder information from a client browser. The card contains a unique ID. My idea is to use an applet that reads that ID on the client-side and then calls a servlet on the server-side to retrieve holder information associated with that ID, i.e. first and last names, and finally displays them on the client browser.
So the card contains only the unique ID, a database on the server-side contains all other related data.
Technically the applet has to call the DLL via JNI.
Do you think that using an applet that way is a good solution, do you see simpler solutions, is there security issues ?

Question about accessing CIFS with LUM user (permissions)

Hi there,
I have a question related to accessing a CIFS mount throught a user in a linux box.
First of all, its a system based in OES11 sp2 & SLES 11 SP3. I have a cifs mount
in /media/nss, with novell cifs, coming from a NSS Filesystem. This mount is mounted
with a username/password with password policy, etc. I have four users LUM-enabled,
in the Linux box, which should access the CIFS mount, but I have a permission denied.
I have set trustees for the primary group for the 4 lum-enabled users and also I have
addedd permissions for a group in the NSS volume, and add this group to the membership
of the users, but doesnt works.
I guess Im missing something or Im doing something wrong. Could anybody give me a pointer?

Do I have to subscribe to the OTN network in order to receive a username, password and host string, in order to log into the SQL Plus application. Is there any documentation that explains how I am able to access the Oracle 9i Database and all of its functions. What do I have to do in order to access The OTN network

Question about Access Point

In my work, we have two WAP4410N Wireless-N Access Point with Power Over Ethernet, but ¿how many users support each access point? And, somebody knows how I can configure the two access point to be viewed as one in all laptops? Normally, the laptops found access point 1 and acces point 2 but, somebody says me I can configure them as if they are one.

The rule of thumb is a typical Ap can handle 20 users each, but the actual capacity could be more or less, alot of it depends on the traffic the users are generating and the bands/protocols.
for example if you are using 802.11g @ 54mbps, in reality your getting roughly 36 mbps of actual throughput, so then you have 20 users each using 100k of bandwidth which is about 2mb of traffic, you could handle more, but if you have 10 users that are pulling 1.5mbps then your cumlative traffic is 15mbps; so load is traffic dependant. Retries and other issues can affect this as well but are hard to calculate.
Also make sure the 2 access points you setup are on different channels.
Null or limited connectivity?? do you mean low signal strength or no network access?

A very odd question about accessing cube via HTTP PUMP

Everything was fine a couple of days ago when I used excel to connect to cube. Today, when I use excel -> from Other sources, I can select the AS database but can not see the cube at all... The odd thing is that if I choose to use Existing Connections
which contains the connection to the CUBE before, after put my user id and password, I am able to connect and navigate cube data.
There is a role for the AS database and myself has been granted as Full control ( administrator). I've also switched to SSMS and access cube over there directly, no issues at all.
Question: why excel is not allowing me to see the list of cubes for an AS database???

How have you setup permissions for the HTPP access. If e.g. IIS and SSAS running on different machines, the permissions settings are a little bit difficult. So may a different user is used and that one may don't have permissions to access the cube.

Question about accessing Runtime MBean server

I would like to access the Runtime MBean server, and I've read this link: http://e-docs.bea.com/wls/docs91/jmx/accessWLS.html#1119237
I want to access this from within my EJB application. My WLS 9.1 setup is simple (it's a Single Server Domain), and the class which is attempting to get to the runtime MBean server is from a stateful session bean. The Bean class is in a Jar which is deployed within an Ear as part of an ELB module.
After reading "If the classes for the JMX client are located in a J2EE module, such as an EJB or Web application, then the JNDI name for the Runtime MBeanServer is", I expected to use the JNI name java:comp/jmx/runtime. But this failed.
What worked was the other address specified (java:comp/env/jmx/runtime).
So, apparently this means that "If the classes for the JMX client are located at the top level of an enterprise application (that is, if they are deployed from the application's APP-INF directory)"
So, I'm not sure what this means? Can someone clarify when each address is available and when it's not? The existing explaination in the doco doesn't make sense to me. My application is defined as part of an EJB module, yet I can't use the JNI name for an EJB module?

Questions about converting from Photoshop to Lightroom

Hi! I have been a Photoshop user for many years now, but after a lot of thought, reading many reviews and much reccommendation, I have decided I would like to buy Lightroom! However, I have absolutely no idea how I go about doing it. I thought it would be simple but after looking into it, people have made it seem much more complicated than I thought. SO, here are a few qustions which I hope somebody can answer!
1. Do I already need a version of Lightroom before I can buy Lightroom 4 or 5?
2. Do I buy it on a disk, or do I download it off the Adobe website? Which is the better option?
3. I'm currently on windows 7, however I'm going to be buying an iMac next year. Will I have to buy another version of Lightroom next year? Or can I install it on multiple devices?
4. Why is Lightroom 5 so much cheaper than Lightroom 4 on Amazon? (not the update versions)

The Upgrade from a previous version is a lower price, but the upgrade price should clearly say UPGRADE.

Questions about accessing data from old drives

I am trying to access data from a 10-12 yr old IDE drive that I used with a PC way back when. I place it in an enclosure, and when connected, receive a message via Lion (see attached). Anyone have any idea if the drive may work when connected to a modern PC? Did Windows 10-12 years ago use some system that makes drives not recognizable with Macs OR are the drives just likely bad?

Question about Access database linking in SharePoint

I have a database table I created in Access 2010, I can get it into SharePoint as a list and then create a calendar view. I used the SharePoint icon under Database Tools in Access. My problem is that when I enter new information in the Access
Database I am not able to get SharePoint to reflect this update.
I should state that I am extremely rusty with Access and SharePoint.
I appreciate any help that can be offered and I thank you in advance.

Question about access non-public class from other package.

Hi, everyone!
Suppose class A and class B are in the same java file of package pkg1
-- A.java. So, A is a public class and B is a non-public class.
If I want to access class B from another class class C and class
C is in package pkg2. When compiling, an error occurs indicating
that class B is not visible to class C.
So, If I defined serveral classes in one java file and I want to
access every class from other package. How should I do?
(I think in one java file, there should be only one public class and
only the public class can be accessed from other package.)

do? As you already seem to know, there is at most one public class allowed per source file (at least, with javac and most popular compilers). So if you want more than one public class, you will need to use more than one file...

A question about the face call through wifi

Hi I'm currently waiting for iphone4 in Korea
one of the main reasons for me to buy iphone4 is
I can use face call(I know it isn't the official term but
I hope everyone understands what I mean) for free through
wifi. So right now my biggest concern is that does the free face
call exclusively possible inside of the us or does it possible
internationally through wifi. In other word does the face call possible
between the iphone4 user in Korea and in the us?
I'll study in the us and my parents stay in Korea. I hope the face call
will be possible between me and my parents. Thay way will very much
narrow the geographical gap betwen me and my parents.

I think it will be, I saw a post I think on engadget.com that shows the possibility. The guy was using a mifi in I think the UK and the other guy was in the states. It was possible but it had hiccups. I have not seen a wifi to wifi in two different countries as of yet. But the mifi to wifi in two different countries yes. The study was done to see why Face Time was not available when using 3G service and it clearly showed it is possible because the mifi uses a 3G signal which is translated as a hotspot.....There also may be international laws in certain countries that block it.
