Question about Acrobat Distiller 6.0 ...

Is Acrobat Distiller 6.0 needed to run Adobe Reader XI free version upgrade or can I remove it ?

No, it is not needed. It is however both very useful and was (in its day) fairly expensive, so be wary of removing it.

  • Question about Acrobat 8 Distiller

I am using a third party program and printing to the System Printer (Adobe PDF).
When printing to the Adobe Printer the computer gets held up and the error message states that the Acrobat Distiller has encountered problems.
Is there a fix or has this issue been approached before? I have always used this system and since installing Acrobat 8, I have encountered this problem.
    Any suggestions will help.
    Thanks,

  • Questions about acrobat sdk plugins...

Can a plugin developed for adobe acrobat professional 9.0 extended with acrobat 9 sdk, run in adobe acrobat professional 8.0, 7.0 or previous versions?
I try to do that, and a error ocurs.
And the other one, is not about the plugin itself, but about an option of acrobat professional 9.0 extended . It's possible to edit a pdf, add annotations.. with acrobat professional 9.0 extended when the pdf is open in a browser view?
I try, but the options to do that were not available like "advanced editing".
    Thks,
    César

No.  You must use the version of the SDK for the LOWEST version of Acrobat you wish to support.
A plugin is not limited between browser and stand-alone - you can do the same things in both.

  • Question about acrobat js

i want to know if exist a method in js that show me a dialog that allow me select a file to obtain information about this file selected.

Not really. You can use the importDataObject() to select a file and import
it as a data object, but it will not be the original file when you access
it. Or you can use app.openDoc(), but you need to know the path before-hand.

Usually this indicates a malware infection, which is strange since you just reset your computer...

  • Questions about using a PDF form online

I have a client who wants to create an online version of a PDF form that they are currently using. I am currently trying to explain to them that this would be best done as an HTML web form, but I may not win this argument. I have only used PDFs for printed forms (either hand-written or using form fields) so I am not familiar with any problems that converting the form for use online would entail.
When the 'Submit' button is pressed on the form, is there a way to redirect to another web page after the data is submitted? (i.e. does the PDF have access to it's outer 'environment'?)
Are there any security issues submitting data using the PDF form as opposed to using a standard web form? (There may be sensitive data being submitted)
I'm not sure how they plan to handle the data that is submitted, but there are several options in the submitForm parameters - I am assuming that using the HTML option would submit the data in the same format as a web form would. Am I correct here?
Can the PDF be prevented from being downloaded or printed? This form should only be used to submit data to their server, not as a printed form.
Are there any other 'gotchas' that I need to look out for? Does anyone have a recommendation for a site which contains any tutorials or guidelines for using PDF forms online?

    Thanks for the information.
Yes, I agree that there is less reason for it to be a PDF form (Actually, no real reason other than the original form already exists in PDF), but I am unfortunately in the position that my input in this project is not necessarily being considered (my company is following direct -and inconsistent- directions from the client, and I have no contact with the client to ask questions about what their actual needs are). I have been told to give the client the 'Tomato' that they are asking for, even though they are describing an 'Apple'.
The reason this form is not meant to be printed is that we have replaced the 'Signature' fields from the original form with checkboxes that the user must check to confirm they have 'signed' the document. If they are to print/fax/whatever the document, they should use the original form, not this one. And I am still trying to explain to them that this would be better served with an HTML web form, but I fear I am losing that battle.
I have brought up the fact that it is not 100% guaranteed that Acrobat will be available in the browser, although I can only guess that it is less than likely that anyone will not have some sort of PDF viewer available to their browser.
I will also mention that issues may arise if the file is not submitted from within the browser.

  • Acrobat will not let me create a pdf. It says "Acrobate distiller has encountered a problem and needs to close."

I'm using a PC to convert pagemaker files to PDF to send to the newspaper printer exactly as I have done for years. Suddenly Acrobat distiller will not let me create the pdf. Can anyone help me?@@

I did think about that and if I have to I will do that, however there are about 50 songs. I have closed and reopened iTunes several times and I am sure that I have the latest version. It fails right away but I can click on the cloud download icon and download the song that it failed on ... therefore it is not that song "or any one song" causing the issue. Any ideas?

  • Adobe Acrobat Distiller 9 Problems

    Hi,
New to the forum - hopefully someone can help me out. I have also tried the Adobe Forums, Quark Forums etc. etc. with no result - all are blaming Apple - so here I am. (Mod's please move this thread if it isn't in the right place).
Specs first - Quark 8.12, Suitcase Fusion 13.2.1, Acrobat Distiller 9.2.0, Mac OSX 10.5.8.
When I create pdfs from Quark (Indesign etc.) - I print them through the print dialogue box (using the acrobat PPD) - save them - and it prints like if it were going to a printer (output device) but creates a pdf. This is the way I have always done it and the way I want to continue to do it.
What I am experiencing is that even though I have specified create "Low Resolution" or "Standard Resolution" pdfs it outputs/saves them as "High Resolution" Pdfs.
The other day it was the opposite I specified "High" and it save a "Low Resolution" pdf.
The high resolution pdfs seem to be extremely large also. Previously in Acrobat Distiller 7 a high resolution pdf file of one particular document I have was 50Mb in size, the same document distilled in Acrobat Distiller 9 gives my a 250Mb pdf file!!
I am also experiencing unwanted rotation of pages with the pdf creation ie a landscape page is distilled (rotate) to a portrait page.
I have tried deleting settings, creating new documents and pasting the information in, pdfing on other computers all with the same results.
What I have found is that if I just use the default acrobat settings - standard, small, high quality etc. the files pdf fine and have expected file sizes etc.
But as soon as I make a custom setting in distiller or use a 3rd party acrobat setting that's when the problem/s occur - large file sizes, rotated pages etc.
What is also weird is if I turn "auto rotate pages" to "off" in acrobat distiller it will rotate the pages (a landscape but distills it to portrait) but if I choose one of the other settings like "individually" it pdfs OK in the right orientation.
Anybody have any ideas of why Distiller (or whatever) freaks out when I change the settings?? (creates massive pdf files, rotates pages etc) I need to be able to make custom distiller settings for various newspapers, magazines etc.
    So just to recapp:
Default Acrobat Distiller settings work but custom or 3rd party settings do not work in Acrobat Distiller. Nor do they "Stick/Stay" in the drop down menu when you select them like the default settings do - the menu defaults back to "default".
I have upgraded to 9.2.0 - reset the printers - Uninstalled the software and reinstalled it all with the same result.
Doesn't matter if I make a PS file etc and drop it onto distiller - still get the same outcome.
    Please Help!!
    Thanks

Got Distiller to work. Seems the problem was with software activation/licensing. I got different software - and a free update to Acrobat 9 Extended - from my merchant and installed it. Distiller now does not crash anymore when starting it up and appears (thus far) stable.
However, I still get an error message at start up:
    Adobe PostScript software version: 3018.101
Adobe PDF Settings file read error in PDFX4 2008.joboptions:
    /CheckCompliance out of range
A quick web search shows that this is also not a new problem. Some say that Distiller is not able to create PDF/X4 files and that the error is thus a bug in Distiller itself. Is that true? (I can't find a joboptions file of that name in my system ...)
Do I need to do anything about it or can I just leave it?

    Adobe Acrobat 9.0.0, OS 01.5.4

I'm then given a window to select from but "Acrobat

  • Adobe Acrobat Distiller 9 crashes on start

I recently bought a new notebook with Intel Pentium dual-core processor T3400 and Windows Vista Home Premium pre-installed.
This weekend, I have been installing some software, including Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro and Adobe Photoshop CS4 Extended.
Actually, I bought Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro just for having Acrobat Distiller (not: Distiller Server), to use in book publishing with Corel Ventura 10 and PostScript. The version I got is Acrobat Distiller 9.
However, when I now start up Acrobat Distiller 9 it shows up for one or two seconds and then crashes (just vanishes from the screen without an error message).
I found the same problem described for earlier versions of Distiller (in XP and Mac) in various online fora, but thus far I have not seen a solution described anywhere.
It seems to be a common (and long-standing) problem, certainly there must be a fix?
(I already uninstalled an reinstalled Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro and also tried "Repair Acrobat Installation" under "Help" in the programme. To no avail.)
Let me know if you have an idea. Thanks.

  • What is Adobe Acrobat Distiller and how do I download a trial version.

I need a PDF creator/ Convertor for Microsoft Publisher files. Files are then to be sent to commercial printer. Although I can save the file as pdf from within Microsoft Publisher but sometimes there are problems with the Output, transparencies and PNG images. I saw a guide about commercial printing on the web where Adobe Acrobat distiller 3.0 was recommended for commercial printing. I have browsed Adobe website but could't find. Is it part of Acrobat 9 or so?
    Any advice will be helpful.
    Thanks

Yes, Distiller is part of Acrobat and not free. Download the trial and then decide whether it's worth buying for your purposes...

  • Unable to embedded xls files word doc with acrobat distiller 6

    Hi,
I have a problem to convert a Microsoft Word docs with embedded excel(*.xls) to PDF using Adobe Distiller 6. The excel file will become an image file after conversion.
Please advise on what went wrong or is this a limititaion of Adobe Distiller 6.
    Thank you in advance.
    Regards,
    Haikal

I suspect that what you are asking as nothing to do with Acrobat. For what you are doing, there is no need to use PDF Maker (unless you are looking for links or such). You do not have to use Distiller (unless you are taking about the Acrobat Distiller printer with AA5 and earlier), but simply print to the Adobe PDF printer (that automates the use of Distiller). In fact, Distiller can not handle DOC files, so I suspect you are using AA5. However, the end result will be based on whatever WORD sends to the printer, not how Acrobat converts it. If text is sent, then Acrobat will convert it accordingly. Sounds like WORD is sending the Excel file as a graphic. It may just be that is how WORD handles that OLE aspect of the embedding.
I am no expert on WORD (I use another package), but I really doubt that Acrobat is at fault. I would look at what WORD is doing. One way to do this is to print to a PS file (you can do this with the Adobe PDF printer using print-to-file. Open the PS file and you should find a graphic structure in the PS that represents the Excel file.

  • Questions about my PDF portfolio.

I have only a few questions about a CD portfolio I am designing with Acrobat Professional (8.0)
There were a few things i couldn't figure out on my own.
I have about 15-20 pieces to show on CD, but there is no web design involved, so I couldn't use my own web site layout to just throw onto CD, out of that convenience.
    1) How do you make sure the PDF will always opens at the size you want?
For example, whenever I set the document at actual size (100% view) I close and open the document, and it reopens at a random size, such as 317 percent.
    WTH?
    2) Where can I find examples of design portfolios that were designed in Acrobat? Everyone's portfolio is online these days, which is not my style.
    3) Is it possible to make a 'thumbnail view' on the first PDF page (like you would see in a gallery on a website) that links from that page to any one of the 15-20 pieces?
    Any advice is much appreciated.

I also found another stuipd thing in some Java games the phone still has the tilt sensor active in games and software.
Some games end up with graphic glitches forcing you to restart them, some display a message saying its unsupported and some support it partially (The number keys for navigation stay like they are in portrait which is of course messed up (The phone seems to change the navigation keys internally though so that does work)

  • Questions about OLE containers

    Hello,
I try to use an OLE container for save any type of documents, the majority are Microsoft Word (*.doc), Acrobat Reader (*.pdf) and images (*.jpeg, *.jpg, *.bmp, ...)
I prove to insert a document an save it in the database and all works fine. The document is saved in a BLOB column, and if I try to activate the OLE container I view the document correctly, but I have questions about OLE container:
1.- Once I saved the document into the database (the icon of the document is shown into the OLE container), if I query the database to retrieve the documents, the OLE container not shown the icon of the document, and if I try to activate the OLE container, making double-click, it doesn't make anything.
I think that the query to the database don't retrieve correctly the documents into the OLE container.
2.- Once I saved the document into the database (the icon of the document is shown into the OLE container), if I try to activate the OLE container, depend the document I need to do twice double-click to open the document.
If I try to open a Word document (*.doc) it need one double-click to activate, but if I try to open an Acrobat document (*.pdf) it need twice double-click to activate.
Why? How can I open any type of documents with one double-click?
3.- The form that I develop will work in client-server and in web mode.
The problem is that if I try to run the form into web mode with OLE container, I have an error:
"FRM-92100: Se ha interrumpido la conexión con el Servidor. Puede ser el resultado de un error de red o fallo en el Servidor. Debe reestablecer la conexión", and if I click in Details I have "Java Exception: java.lang.ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException ...".
If I delete the OLE item, it works fine, and I don't have any errors.
I know that OLE container doesn't works in web mode, because this I will develop this functionality with JavaBean, but I would like that in client-server mode works with OLE container.
There are any way to do this, that in web mode doesn't has this error, and in client-server mode works with OLE container?
    Thank you very much

    2. If you use Time Machine you can't browse those pictures on the Movable DIsk. It's not designed to work like that.
    3. Don't use copy and paste, try drag and drop instead.
You don't tell us how you are managing these photos. I suggest that you use an app that will do incremental back ups. This is a very good way to work. The first time you run the back up the app will make a complete copy of the everything. Thereafter it will update the back up with the changes you have made. That makes subsequent back ups much faster. Many of these apps also have scheduling capabilities: So set it up and it will do the back up automatically.
Example of such apps: Chronosync - but there are many others. Search on MacUpdate or the App Store
