Question about activation of iPhone 3G

hello,
I actually have an iPhone 3G bought in the UK (Pay&Go with O2). This iPhone is sim locked on O2 Uk.
My question is: If I buy another Pay&Go UK O2 Sim Card and restore my iPhone, will this sim card be able to activate my iPhone?
Thanks in advance.

The gps on the original Iphone was not actually GPS. It was just a set of maps that you could search just like yahoo maps and google maps. later on they added a find me feature which brought up your approximate location according to cell phone towers but it would not follow you as you went along. The new Iphone has true GPS that will track you as you move.

  • Question about activating iPhone

I'm getting a iPhone soon, and have a question about activation. Is a credit card or debit card required during activation?

The credit card is used to setup an iTunes Store account, Small tip. Set one up before activation to cut down on activation setup time.
You can remove the credit card info off your iTunes account after it is setup. It is simply used for when you want to purchase music, videos, etc. off the iTunes Store.
If you do not have a credit or debit card, Try going down to your local Walmart or Drug store, Some of these places sell Fillable Credit cards. You can buy the cheapest one they have and use it for Setup of the account. And simply refill it if you need more money for any purchases.

  • Question about Legally Unlocked iPhones & Update 'locking'?

Please forgive me if this has been covered before, as I am a totally newbie in this area.
I have a question regarding legally unlocked iphones:
If I bought an iphone from a country that offered legally unlocked cellphones like Singapore for example, and then used it/patched it up for the first time AFTER bringing it back into the US, would this 'lock' the cellphone to only work in the US, or with ATT?
The reason I ask is due to two points: A) I know that certain countries offer cellphones that were never locked to begin with. B) I have read that after installing the latest patch (2.2.1 I think) in the US, iphones that were previously locked and then unlocked, will be re-locked.
So my question is basically this: What would happen in the event that you update a phone that was never locked to begin with? Would it 'lock' for the first time? Or would it remain unlocked still?
    Thank you.

Legally unlocked iPhones have to be updated in the country where they were purchased to guarantee they are not relocked...Every country has their own iTunes -- When you connect to iTunes in the US you are connecting with a US ISP address on your computer. You would have a completely different ISP code in a different country.
Wait to update and see what others are finding before you attempt to update in the US. It is completely within Apple's right to relock phones used within the USA.
This is not the right forum site to get updates on this. A google search will bring up non-Apple websites where you will get up to date information about this.

  • Quick Question About Ringtones and iPhone

I've looked through the discussions and could not find my answer. If you know of a discussion already posted please refer me to that.
Question: After buying a song from iTunes is there a statute of limitations governing the song's ability to create a ringtone?
None of the songs that I bought before my iPhone can be made into ringtones and songs that I bought a few days ago, which initially I could make into a ringtone, but did not, now can no longer be made into a ringtone.
Also, is there any program besides iTunes that can be used to create ringtones from any song?
Thank you for any and all help.

No there is not a time limit that I know of. The bell has disappeared on mine too. Have you clicked Store>create ringtone?
There are many, many posts about other ways to make ringtones:

  • Questions about activation locks? Help?

Okay so I bought an iphone 5 off kijiji and everything is fine so far but I have a few questions. It says "SIM required" and I don't have a SIM card yet as I'm getting one next week. I'm not sure if it's activation locked. My questions is Does the activation lock alert pop up before it asks for SIM? Or after when I've put in my SIM?
Hopefully that makes sense because I don't have a SIM yet and I don't know how else to check if its activation locked. Please reply.

It checks for activation lock when you attempt to activate the phone with a SIM card in it.

  • Need to ask a question about getting the iPhone 5 without an upgrade available.

Alright so I have currently an iPhone 4S and do NOT have an upgrade available. My question is how do i go about buying the 5 then? From what I know, Apple sells "unlocked" phones at around $750 (I want the 32gig version) but wont come out on launch day. Is there a Verizon specific phone that I can get instead of an "unlocked" phone that would cost cheaper and I can get it on launch day? Or do I have to preorder it through verizon's website?
Another thing is...is there certain fee's that I would have to pay to go along with the phone if I can buy it?

Pernoe: I'm no expert, but this is the way I understand unlocked phones. Unlocked phones that use GSM technology can work on either T-Mobile or AT&T networks. Unlocked phones that use CDMA technology can work on either Sprint or Verizon networks. I can't tell you the difference between GSM and CDMA... I just don't really know what it is, just that AT&T and T-Mobile use GSM and Sprint and Verizon use CDMA.
That being said, I purchased (or at least ordered... my credit card has not been charged yet) 2 iPhone 5's from Verizon and opted to pay full price instead of taking the contract discount. You don't need to buy an unlocked phone to pay full price. You just have to select "month-to-month" pricing instead of "2 year contract" pricing when you buy the phone.

  • Few questions about buying an iPhone in the US for European use

We're currently in NY and are considering buying an iPhone because it's way cheaper here than in Belgium.
Still we have a few questions, hope we can get some answers
    - You should unlock your iPhone, should we ask for that right away in the Apple store ?
    - Doest unlocking cost any money, if yes, how much ?
    - What happens to your warranty, can you go to a Belgian Apple store if something happens to your iPhone ?
    - Can customs make any problems if you get one or more iPhones unboxed in your baggage ?
Anyone who has done this and wants to share their experience, any other things we have to know ?
    Thanks in advance!

Warranty will be valid only in the US. You will have to return the iPhone
personally or via friend/relative. Apple will not accept international
shipments for evaluation nor will Apple ship out of the country after
repair/replacement. You cannot have your US purchased iPhone serviced
    or replaced in the US.
LTE/4G on an iPhone purchased in the US will not work outside of North America.
Tax, import duty, customs fees are best discussed with the appropriate governmental
    entities in Belgium.
Be sure to ask in the Apple store for an unlocked iPhone - you will pay full retail price
plus applicable taxes. There is no charge to get the iPhone unlocked.

  • Question about activation

Hey, i just got my 16gb white iphone 3g and right now i know the servers are over loaded and what not, but when i plug in my iphone it says "NO SIM CARD INSTALLED Insert an unlocked and VALID sim to activate iPhone."
but, it has the sim card in there that AT&T gave me... is this normal?

nevermind! i got it activated and synced!

  • Question about "activated" status

    Hi again!
Got another question regarding Applescript studio app. Most apps I notice if you close their window and the app allows itself to stay open, by double clicking the icon or clicking the dock icon it would reopen that window. But I notice that if you would close the window and "activate" the app by Expose or -tab that some apps will reopen the window and some won't...make sense? So I guess my question is how would I make the app reopen its main window that was closed if you would click it's icon, but not if it was reactived in Expose???
    Thanks,
    Reg

From some quick experiments it looks to me like "will become active" and "activated" are going to get called any time your app is activated regardless of whether it's due to command-tab or clicking the dock icon. So if you're only wanting to open an new window on a dock click I don't know how you could really use either of those and be able to tell what caused your app to be actived.
On the other hand it appears that "should open untitled" may do what you're wanting. It appears that "should open untitled" gets called if your app does not have any open windows and it gets activated by a click on the dock icon. It does not seem to get called if you switch to your app using command-tab. Nor does it get called following a dock icon click if you already have a window open.
It also does not get called if your app does have a window and you switch to it by clicking the window in Expose. Is it even possible to switch to an app through Expose if the app does not have any windows to click on?
I'm not sure what other circumstances could cause "should open untitled" to be called so you may have to experiment with it some more.

  • The question about activity allocation

    business scenario:
1, The sole purpose is to capture costs,  use KB21N for activity allocation.
Question: in WBS or netwok activity. there is no relevant work time.
Please explain me all the steps to be required.
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
    I under stood as follows.
You want to capture actual cost in PS. For this you need to have Work centers.
Assign the same to internal actvities. Release the activity and confirm the same.
In SAP, Standard report, you get No hours Actuals, Planed... etc. Check in CN41, CN71 and execute the Project. Check the field selection, there you get the details you required.
    Hope my understanding is correct.

  • HT4859 question about backing up iphone

if I back up my iphone/ipad to my computer, then delete a file (say, a picture) from my iphone/ipad, then back up the iphone/ipad again, will the previously deleted file still be backed up, or will it be gone?

The iphone backup that itunes performs does not include photos or itunes content.  You should be including this content in your regular backup of your computer files/docs/pics/music/etc.

  • Question about buying an iphone

Sorry if this a stupid question but i couldnt find it anywhere. I was wondering if i purchased an iphone with the 60$ a month plan would i still have to pay the 400$ or however much the phone is.
    thanks for the help

The AMOUNT of the subsidy may not be exactly $800. But it is clear that an unlocked phone costs a lot more than a locked one. Also, a financial analyst in the US calculated, from Apple's quarterly report, that Apple makes $816 per phone over the 2 year life of the contract in rebates from AT&T.

  • Question about buying an iPhone online

Hi there. I would like advice regarding buying an iPhone 6 thru third-party sites such as Ebay or Amazon.
I have heard that if the person fail to turn off the Find my iPhone feature it might "lock" the phone and it will render it unusable with the one buying. is this true?
Surely if the phone has been factory reset can i not use it again as normal and use all the features?
Also, i'm on O2. As stupid as it may sound but would a "locked" phone be better than an unlocked iPhone in relation to the above query?
    Please advice. Thanks.

No, because unlocked does NOT mean this.  If someone sells a phone as unlocked, it means that it is not locked to any particular carrier, so you can use any sim card in that phone.  It does NOT mean the same as activation lock, which is a security feature on the phone to prevent theft and is totally different from the carrier lock.
Also, E-bay is not a legitimate source to purchase an iPhone.  If you are in the UK and you want to purchase an iPhone, then go directly to any Apple store in the UK and buy one or go to the UK carrier stores, such as 02, EE, 3 or Vodafone and buy one from there.  Note, that if you buy the phone through the carriers, it will not be unlocked and you will have to take out a contract with them, so you cannot use any sim card in the phone.  If you buy directly from an Apple store, then you can buy an unlocked phone and you can then get a sim only contract with the carriers and can change carrier and use any sim card in the phone.

  • A few quick questions about publishing for iPhone/Android

I'm currently developing an iPhone/Android game in CS5 and I just have a few quick questions.  If anyone can answer even one or two I'd really appreciate it
1- I'm developing using a 320 x 480 resolution for the iphone.  When I tested it, the status bar on the top of the screen makes the edges disappear.  How should I turn off the status bar?  And if I can't what resolution should I use?
2- The performance is a little slow, and the game isn't very intense at all.  What's a good way to improve performance?
3- For Android, what should I do for the resolution?  Is there a standard resolution or do I have to have multiple resolutions for multiple devices?
4- Finally, is it worth getting the free trial of CS5.5 before I publish?  Is there anything in there that will be a huge improvement over CS5?
    All help is appreciated

    1. Publish in fullscreen
    2. Use bitmaps, cache all bitmaps, use minimized looping structure etc.
        http://www.yeahbutisitflash.com/?p=986
    3. Android: 480 * 800
    4. Not that much, but you have GUI updates and have a GUI publishing screen for packager for iphone too.

  • Question about suitability of iPhone and specific comparisons

I like the Verizon network (for which I'm considering upgrading to the Omnia II) but am thinking about biting the bullet and going to AT&T for the iPhone. I use Macs at home and at work. My main uses will be phonecalls (with reliable voice dialing from my car - bluetooth stereo and earpiece), mail (Exchange server access for calendar, mail, and addressbook), internet through the cellphone network (not wifi) - browsing, SFTP, VNC, etc., watching videos, photos, and listening to music, calendar reminders (as well as periodic sound reminders for missed calls, voicemails, etc.), opening PDF and Word documents, GPS (ideally with spoken driving directions),and Skype. Given these uses, can anyone advise me if there's anything here that is a problem for the iPhone?
    thanks,
    Mike

    "VNC"
There are pretty nice VNC clients for the platform, the best being Jaadu VNC. (See my just-published "Everything you will ever want to know about the remote desktop controllers on the iPhone" for more info if interested; it's been cross-posted to several iPhone forums. Not this one - yet - as I still don't have Level 1.)
    watching videos
The 3G S (but not the 3G!) is far better than current for example Windows Mobile or Symbian phones in that it can play back MPEG-4 / H.264 videos without excessive power consumption. That is, if all your videos are in this format, the 3G S is the way to go.
Nevertheless, if your videos are in DivX, XviD or - even worse - WMV, you won't be able to natively play them back - you'll need to transcode them first.
This, unfortunately, also means WMV streaming TV stations are far harder to watch than on, say, Windows Mobile. The only AppStore app ("Streamer") supporting them is really bad and delivers dismal performance, even on the 3G S.
