Question about app developers

I am curious about something. I bought an app last year called magic fiddle by smule. In order to play it, you have to sign up or sign in, or sign in as a guest. Well, I couldn't sign in so I wrote to the developers an they told me that they discontinued the app and thus turned off the network portion of the app so no one could ever use it again. In order to get to the game part of the app you need to sign in or play as a guest, but since they no longer support it you can't use the app. They even removed it from the app store. What I'm curious about is this. Is there a way we can complain or get an Apple or developer credit to buy something else or are we pretty much screwed as faithful supporters of all these apps on here whoever these developers decide to cancel an app and refuse to support it? I am really ticked off right now. I wouldn't care if the app were free, but I paid for this one.

I know this is a Mac app store, and I know I need support for the iPad AppStore but I thought that the Mac app store was universal.

Question about Apps lost during data recovery. Help!

My hard drive recently failed on my 2007 imac and having not backed up my mac for about 18 months I had to pay specialists to retrieve my data, which they put onto an external drive. I then got a new 1TB hybrid drive installed. Tonight I finally got my computer back. Very naively I was thinking I would be able to pick back up from where I left off. Before my drive broke I had Mavericks and was fully up to date running software like Logic X. Now I am back on 10.6.8. Can I just skip now straight up to Yosemite?

You don't have an option, Mavericks is no longer available so Yosemite is the only available OS available from Mac App Store.
Logic will open if you install it from the Mac App Store just as any other previously purchased applications.

Question for App Developers

I am thinking about learning how to develop apps for Android. If you're a developer, how did you learn to develop apps, and do you have any suggestions to get started? What hardware would I need to test apps with?

It helps if you're familiar with Java programming.

I have a question about app identifyers.

On start up my iPhone log aosnotifyd shows up as saying "launch services" then says its trying to register app identifier com.apple.mobileme.fmf1

what is the app identifier for if the iphone can't find the app that the identifier is for?
I'm sorry if this sounds like a silly question but I would really appreciate an answer.

I have similar question. I noticed that when my ipod is idle/sleep, I get the following repeatedly

1) aosnotifyd process is meant to check notifications therefore it keeps waking after every second or so.
2) I am not using mobileme (now icloud), probably that is why is is unknown app and failing to register.

Question about App Descriptions

There is a company that makes about 20-22 sports news aggreg apps and they keep using this quote tbat is obviously made up as it is EXTREMELY nice and one of those over-the-top statements made FOR the company. They use the EXACT same quote and simply substitute the team name everytime. Now, I understand that apps may change the names for descriptions...that is not what I am complaining about.
But they keep using a statement with quotes around it (and no source) and then change the team names in it.
Is that allowed?

This is a user-to-user forum, not Apple customer service.
The charge may not happen on the day you downloaded music/apps, it may happen at a later date. What you did not say was whether you had bought anything recently or whether the charge was for something you bought recently. If not, the usual thing to do is call your credit card company, cancel the card, and tell them that the charge was fraudulent.

Another question about apps

I am setting up my new iPad. I was under the impression that my iPhone apps would be loaded onto the iPad when I synched it via iTunes on my Mac but that didn't happen ... am I missing something?

The whole process stinks, but it is what it is. Once you plug your iPad or iPhone in, right mouse click and transfer purchases. That should transfer everything from both devices to your library.
Then decide how you want to sync. The whole process of wiping out your device to resync is how Apple thinks you should go about this. The only issue that I'm having is that iPhone apps will sync with iPad apps, which I don't want to do.
There needs to be two different libraries so you can keep things straightened out.
Why do you need another computer to setup and sync these devices? Why can't they do it on their own? Just have iTunes run on each device and control it through your login. I'd do Mobile Me, but I'm already spending $300/month and I'm not about to give them any more.
I think the iPad is spectacular, the interface is wonderful and it will redefine how we think and use these devices in our life.

I just ordered an iPod Touch. This might be a dumb question, but will it run the same apps as an iPhone, as long as the app doesn't require a phone?
Also, is there an app that would make the iPod Touch into a GPS for getting directions?

Question about app design - database + session object in JSP

hi all
i am studying this application built mostly with servlets and JSPs, and there are several questions i want to ask your guys' opinions about it.
first of all, i noticed that the application hits database to get/save data very frequently. from one page to another it would save data collected from user to the DB, and retrieve data from DB to display on the next page. it does this a lot. would this decrease the overall performance of the application, i mean a DB hit requires network traffic overhead, wouldn't it be better if all data collected from user are stored in a session object temporarily, and all the data that are displayed on those pages retrieved at the start time? and do one save process in the end. it uses Oracle DB if it makes any difference. should we try to avoid db hit as much as possible?
my next question is that is it good approach to keep information in session object? even if there is a lot of data to keep?
another question is the db connection. in a pooled environment - weblogic server, we would use JNDI in the code to get connection from the pool, we use it and close it. when we close a connection with close() method, what really happens? does this connection gets return to the pool or it is being destroyed completely.
i know this is a lot to ask, i appreciate your help very much. looking forward to seeing some feedback.

It can, of course, convert from the enum to a string because it just calls toString(). But I need both directions for any UIInput element I use, be it a selectOne, or just a straight inputText.

no my problem was that it was a paid app that i paid for that when i was looking at it and downloaded it it says contains language is not suitable for persons under 17 with that you would think it is uncensored. then after download it is censored. i understand it is apples product and there store so they can do what they want. its basically a sound board of a comedian and without those certain words it all sounds stupid. so my question was if they know it exists in the app and they label it as unsuitable for persons under 17 then why bleep out everything and if your going to bleep it then it should be fine for everyone without a disclaimer.

Question About App Store Terms & Agree Thing

after i signed into my apple id account on my iPhone, it said new terms and agreement and i hit agree button..i did not understand what they meant on the agree and terms statement..can someone please explain to me? all i know is that i dont need to keep signing into my account. thats all i know. do i have to do anything or is everything ok?? im so confused.

Question about app store revenue, expenses...

For the purposes of tax reporting... would the 30% Apple takes from your share be considered an expense... and your revenue be the total sales of the app...
or would you just say that your revenue is 70% of the sales (ie exactly what you get from apple) and not report the Apple cut as an expense...

I'm no accountant but Apple's 30% isn't an expense since you are not paying it. I'd just report the 70% as your income and be done. I guess you can count the $99/year fee an expense.
I would think of it like a consultant working for a consulting firm. The consultant doesn't count the extra money going to the firm as an expense. They just count their pay as their income.

Question about app design with JSF

I'm new to JSF and have been using MyFaces in combination with Tomcat and Hibernate to write a web application for my institution. We have a fairly clean model implemented and our hibernate persistence layer is also looking good. I'm running into trouble making a clean view layer with JSF. Namely, I can't seem to avoid creating lots of classes to get a given job done.
As a for instance: I have quite a few enumerations representing various units of measure, conventions, etc. To persist them in the db with hibernate, I needed to make a converter class to convert the Enums to strings. I wrote a class using generics that could convert any enum to strings appropriately given a class object you pass into the constructor. Well, hibernate needs a no arg constructor so it can instantiate one automatically, so I had to make a subclass of this converter for each enumeration I have in my model. Couldn't see a way around it.
Now, using JSF, I'm needing to implement another converter for enumerations in order convert back and forth from strings. Same deal. I could use a single class to get the job done. The problem is, in the faces-config.xml where you define your converter classes, it doesn't look like I can have 2 converters defined with the same converter class.
i.e.:

</converter>MyFaces seems to associate both Epoch and VelocityConvention with the second configuration of the EnumConverter class. So, the long and short of it is, here I am again having to write yet another class PER enumeration.
I could go on with another example, but this post is getting lengthy, so I'll make it short. Some of my model classes are not java beans because it would create inconsistencies to only set some of the properties one at a time. I.E. I need to call a method obj.set(a, b) not obj.setA(a); obj.setB(b). My first thought was to create a custom component for obj so that I can turn 2 (or more) input fields into 1 set call. There are other advantages in reusability, etc.
Unfortunately, I have several of those situations and am finding myself leaning toward implementing yet MORE classes to make a separate component for each such instance of a non-java bean set of properties.
What it all comes down to is I seem to be having a class explosion and I'm wondering if there's a better approach to this whole thing. How do you organize a view layer that talks to a model having enumerations and not quite javaBean pattern properties without a class explosion? That's the question I guess.
