Question about backup assistant app on Iphone 4s

My mom just gave me here Iphone 4s (I came from a dumbphone) and I had backup assistant on my old dumbphone, and my mom had backup assistant on her iphone, they verizon employee told me to wipe the iphone, download backup assistant app and sync so I don't get both her contacts and mine on the phone.
but I was wondering instead, if I could delete all her contacts and then run backup assistant instead of completely wiping the phone, would that work?

If you do have contacts stored on backup assistant, go to backupassistant.vzw.com, select all contacts and export to csv file. Then import contacts to your email account through gmail/yahoo and use itunes to transfer your gmail/yahoo contacts into the iphone. That was the easiest way I could figure out on my own. Should help.
Peace and love.

  • I had to perform a master reset on my HTC one, before doing so the phone was backed up using the backup assistant app. Now there is no restore button I can find to get my contacts back. How do I restore my contacts?

I had to perform a Master Reset on my HTC One while trying to work through an issue. This was done with a Verizon rep on the phone and we performed a backup using backup assistant. Now I am not able to restore my contacts because I do not have a "restore" soft button when I open the backup assistant app. How do I restore my contacts?

Have you updated the dreaded Backup Assistant program?  I think you need to do this first before you can restore.

  • A question about backup

    hello chris:
I have a question about backup, last time I had done a incremental backup, after a long time, i found the system record the log LSN, and the log can't remove.
    Command> CALL ttLogHolds();
    < 306, 12446304, Backup , /timesten/TimesTen/backup/data >
    < 1082, 7749304, Checkpoint , data.ds0 >
    < 1082, 21337776, Checkpoint , data.ds1 >
    < 1082, 22546632, Replication , DATA >
how to resolve this problem?? Can TimesTen not record the backup lsn??
    thank you

    Hi,
In TimesTen, incremental backup is driven off the transaction log files, just like replication and XLA, So, once you have initialised an incremental backup set, logs must be retained until they have been copied away to the incremental backup set. So, to ensure that logs can be purged you need to run an incremental backup frequently, either manually or by scheduling using something like cron. If you do not run an incremental backup then logs will be 'held' and cannot be purged by checkpointing (which is what you are seeing).
If you no longer require the incremental backup set then you can disable the incremental backup tracking using ttBackup -type incrementalStop and then logs can be purged normally.

  • Error Code 1001 with Backup Assistant apps

This started a while ago, but I'm back on a Verizon network for a few days so I figured it would be easier to try to solve it now.
I moved to Canada and have a Koodo sim card that I switch over to when I'm there. The first time I hopped borders (went back to the states for a few days then back to Canada), I had some APN issues and was looking into ways to remedy them, and thought I temporary uninstalled the Backup Assistant apps. Right now, Backup Assistant+ and Backup Assistant Contacts show up as 0.0 bytes in my Settings>Apps menu, but they don't appear to be accessible through the Verizon store.
Every so often (and I can't trace when it happens, it's on both the Verizon and Koodo data networks and when I'm on Wifi and when my signal is at any strength), I get an error popping up that says "Sorry, we're having trouble connecting. Make sure you have a good signal and try again. If you still can't connect, call us at 800-922-0204. Error Code 1001"
This is sometimes accompanied by a Backup Assistant Plus icon in my taskbar that tells me to "Tap here to configure your settings" - in the past, tapping it has only brought up a popup that says "Please wait while we connect..." or something, however I got the option to go to the app this time and it is currently stuck on the loading screen with a loading icon that says "Connecting" next to it.
This happened in the last 2-3 minutes, so I haven't seen if the error stopped yet.
Ideally, I want to be able to continue to backup my contacts with Verizon even on the Koodo APNs, which is what it seemed like I was able to do before I came back to the states. Any help to achieve this would be appreciated. Thanks!

I understand the importance of being able to use your device to the fullest of its' capabilities ahwitz. Do you still have active service with us? Have you permanently relocated to Canada? Please be aware we only support devices that are permanently based in the United States. We do have global roaming options; however, that's on an occasional basis. If you are using a Verizon Wireless configured device outside the United States on another network, I'm sorry our control is limited.

  • Cloud App VS Backup Assistant App???

I have the Galaxy S4 phone and want to know if the Cloud App is the same as the Backup Assistant App I had on my old phone.  I have gone to the Play Store and can no longer find the Backup Assistant App.  Is the CLoud App the newer version???

Hello dctajar. I'm glad to see you are taking advantage of saving your information. Backup Assistant Plus is still available on your phone by going to Settings>Accounts>Backup Assistant Plus. Verizon Cloud is a one stop shop for backing up your information. With Verizon Cloud you have 5 GB of storage space at no cost, and you can store contacts, call logs, text messages, media and documents. With Backup Assistant plus, you are able to backup your contacts and media with 500 MB of free storage space.

  • Please i have a question about to YOUTUBE App.

    Dear all,
i have a question about YOUTUBE app.
    i have Iphone 3G.
as i use youtube a new error message has appeared "Cannot Connect to YouTube"
noted that i could't use YouTube before.
    Thanks ,
    Ashraf

I don't use that app. I just go to the web based site. You can share videos from the site, but not from the app, as far as I have been able to do. Try the web based version and see if you get the same error. Go through Safari is what I mean.

  • Backup Assistant Failure on iPhone 4s - no contacts after 'success'

I recently upgraded to a new iPhone 4s and used backup assistant per Verizon's instructions. Yes, I turned of my wireless network access and it appeared to successfully transfer all my contacts. Gave me a 'success' msg with the number of contacts transfered. Problem is they are nowhere to be found in my phone contact list(s). When my son called me it came in as an unidentified number.
Any suggestions on how to recover my lost contacts? If I can't salvage this effort this will be the 2nd time I wasted effort on backup assistant. It has done nothing but waste my time.

  • Questions About Gifting an App

I've never "gifted" an App-Store app before, but I see "http://mashable.com/2010/03/22/itunes-app-gifting" tells a little more about the process.
Between that and searching in the discussions here, best I can tell (correct me if I'm mistaken):
    * I identify the recipient by name and Email address.
    * Sender and recipient need to be in the same country.
    Questions:
    * How does the app "arrive"? It looks like it sends an Email message or lets you print out a coupon, right? That as opposed to, for example, popping up a badge on the recipient's App Store icon, or popping up an alert banner ("Santa123 just gave you an App," or something like that).
    * Best I can tell, there's no option to make the gift "arrive" at a particular time/date (e.g., Christmas morning). That is, the recipient always gets a coupon in Email immediately (if you use the Email option), right?
    * Can the App Store check to see whether the recipient already has the app? Relatedly, can I return the gifted app if s/he already has it?
    * When I gift an app, does it appear as one of his/her apps just like any other, or we have to do something ... special in subsequent syncs?

    Correct.
Can the App Store check to see whether the recipient already has the app?
    No.
can I return the gifted app if s/he already has it?
No, unless iTunes support makes an exception.
When I gift an app, does it appear as one of his/her apps just like any other, or we have to do something ... special in subsequent syncs?
They get a code, which they redeem & then the app downloads to their account.
You can also gift an allowance to avoid the above, that way they can purchase what they want.

  • Questions about Migration Assistant

I'm getting ready to move the contents of my G4 iBook to a new Intel-powered MacBook. I assume Apple's Migration Assistant can handle a lion's share of that job but I have a question...can I change the UserName (and ShortName) on the new computer and still migrate everything over with the Apple utility? For example, a particular concern is how to handle the information contained in Keychain. When that file gets moved over, how do I make it the default Keychain and set it to unlock with the new computer's password?
And any other issues I should be aware of when moving from a G4 machine?

Actually you cannot migrate a user folder that has the same name as one already created. However, because you are moving from a PPC to an Intel Mac there are some cautions of which you need be aware:
A Basic Guide for Migrating to Intel-Macs
If you are migrating a PowerPC system (G3, G4, or G5) to an Intel-Mac be careful what you migrate. Keep in mind that some items that may get transferred will not work on Intel machines and may end up causing your computer's operating system to malfunction.
Rosetta supports "software that runs on the PowerPC G3 or G4 processor that are built for Mac OS X". This excludes the items that are not universal binaries or simply will not work in Rosetta:
Classic Environment, and subsequently any Mac OS 9 or earlier applications
    Screensavers written for the PowerPC
    System Preference add-ons
    All Unsanity Haxies
    Browser and other plug-ins
    Contextual Menu Items
Applications which specifically require the PowerPC G5
    Kernel extensions
Java applications with JNI (PowerPC) libraries
See also What Can Be Translated by Rosetta.
In addition to the above you could also have problems with migrated cache files and/or cache files containing code that is incompatible.
If you migrate a user folder that contains any of these items, you may find that your Intel-Mac is malfunctioning. It would be wise to take care when migrating your systems from a PowerPC platform to an Intel-Mac platform to assure that you do not migrate these incompatible items.
If you have problems with applications not working, then completely uninstall said application and reinstall it from scratch. Take great care with Java applications and Java-based Peer-to-Peer applications. Many Java apps will not work on Intel-Macs as they are currently compiled. As of this time Limewire, Cabos, and Acquisition are available as universal binaries. Do not install browser plug-ins such as Flash or Shockwave from downloaded installers unless they are universal binaries. The version of OS X installed on your Intel-Mac comes with special compatible versions of Flash and Shockwave plug-ins for use with your browser.
The same problem will exist for any hardware drivers such as mouse software unless the drivers have been compiled as universal binaries. For third-party mice the current choices are USB Overdrive or SteerMouse. Contact the developer or manufacturer of your third-party mouse software to find out when a universal binary version will be available.
Also be careful with some backup utilities and third-party disk repair utilities. Disk Warrior (does not work), TechTool Pro (pre-4.5.1 versions do not work), SuperDuper (newest release works), and Drive Genius (untested) may not work properly on Intel-Macs. The same caution may apply to the many "maintenance" utilities that have not yet been converted to universal binaries.
Before migrating or installing software on your Intel-Mac check MacFixit's Rosetta Compatibility Index.

Transferring data with Setup Assistant - Migration Assistant FAQ
Because Migration Assistant isn't the ideal way to migrate from PowerPC to Intel Macs, using Target Disk Mode or copying the critical contents to CD and DVD or an external hard drive will work better when moving from PowerPC to Intel Macs.
Basically the instructions you should follow are:
    1. Backup your data first. This is vitally important in case you make a mistake or there's some other problem.
    2. Connect a Firewire cable between your old Mac and your new Intel Mac.
    3. Startup your old Mac in Target Disk Mode.
    4. Startup your new Mac for the first time, go through the setup and registration screens, but do NOT migrate data over. Get to your desktop on the new Mac without migrating any new data over.
    4. Copy the following items from your old Mac to the new Mac:
In your /Home/ folder: Documents, Movies, Music, Pictures, and Sites folders.
    In your /Home/Library/ folder:
/Home/Library/Application Support/AddressBook (copy the whole folder)
/Home/Library/Application Support/iCal (copy the whole folder)
Also in /Home/Library/Application Support (copy whatever else you need including folders for any third-party applications)
    /Home/Library/Keychains (copy the whole folder)
    /Home/Library/Mail (copy the whole folder)
/Home/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist (* This is a very important file which contains all email account settings and general mail preferences.)
/Home/Library/Preferences/ copy any preferences needed for third-party applications
/Home /Library/iTunes (copy the whole folder)
/Home /Library/Safari (copy the whole folder)
    If you want cookies:
    /Home/Library/Cookies/Cookies.plist
    /Home/Library/Application Support/WebFoundation/HTTPCookies.plist
    For Entourage users:
Entourage is in /Home/Documents/Microsoft User Data
    Also in /Home/Library/Preferences/Microsoft
Credit goes to another forum user for this information.
If you need to transfer data for other applications please ask the vendor or ask in the Discussions where specific applications store their data.
    5. Once you have transferred what you need restart the new Mac and test to make sure the contents are there for each of the applications.
Written by Kappy with additional contributions from a brody.
Be careful about what you migrate. Migrating an entire user folder is not a good idea when moving from PPC to Intel. Stick to your movable folders as described above.
PPC applications may not work after migration. If they don't then simply reinstall them.

  • General question about uploading web apps

i have my site completed and it works on the testing server
without a glitch. i've uploaded static sites before without a
hitch, but i'm not so certain about web apps. seems when you upload
the site with dw, it uploads the html and php . . . but then there
are the tables from the db. uploading them and getting them to hook
up all over again . . . how do you do that? can someone review the
    steps please. thanks.

    something like this:
    1. check your remote server has phpMyAdmin installed and the
    URL to
access it (phpMyAdmin is a web app written in PHP and you
    access it
    through a browser)
    2. download and install phpMyAdmin locally
    3. run phpMyAdmin, usually
    http://localhost/phpMyAdmin,
    but the url will
vary depending the installation and your development
    platform.
export your local DB; phpMyAdmin will create a file named by
    default
"localhost.sql". depending your browser configuratioon you
    can change
the file name/choose where to save
    4. run phpMyAdmin in the remote server and import your DB
    just choosing
    the file in step 3
later you can export/import tables instead the full DB. if
    you're
reimporting the DB remember to check the "Add DROP DATABASE"
    checkbox
    when exporting
you can't see any files in the server with phpMyAdmin, it's
    only a
visual interface to the MySQL server. keep using DW to
create/modify/upload html, js and php files

  • Question about Backing Up apps and using Migration tool

Since installing Leopard on my G5 PPC, I have been having a strange problem with the sleep, screen saver. Anytime the system goes into screensaver or sleep, it will not come back and will be frozen. Needless to say I was told by the Mac Genius guys that I need to do a clean install.
So my real question now is about backing up all my apps and then using the migration tool to bring them back into the new install. I was going to attempt to use Carbon Copy Cloner on a second internal drive (Time Machine has never worked for me on my Lacie 500gb.) Once I have a full bootable copy, I will do a clean install (erase and install option) on my original drive, then I guess I am going to use the migration tool.
    So my questions are:
    1) Does this strategy seem like it will work?
    2) Is the migration tool straightforward? IE - Can I pick and choose what to put back on the new install?
    3) Any pitfalls that I should be aware of?
I have already backed up my docs and data to the external, but I have so many programs with plugins installed that getting my apps back the way they are is essential to me.
    Thanks.

Remember Time Machine is designed to do constant, incremental backups of your HDD. If you delete something from the internal HDD of the Mac it will no longer be backed up to the external HDD and will eventually be deleted from the backup archive as time passes and TM keeps doing its backups.
What will probably be a better solution is to simply drag-n-drop the entire iTunes folder to an external HDD for backup and use that as the main iTunes library. The drawback to this is that to play the music you'll need to have the external HDD connected. Unless your plan is not to delete all the music from your MBP, just some of it.

  • Question about converting to 128kbps for iphone 4

good day. i was wondering about the 'convert higher bit rate songs to 128kbps' option. i always import my bought cd's in apple lossless, and i guess the music i buy on itunes is 256, so that said i have a few playlists on my 16gb iphone 4 and with all the other stuff on there i still have 9gb's free. would it be worth it to me to convert the songs to 128kbps? will the sound be noticeably worse? i have what are considered really good headphones as well so how will that work out as well? thanks for any help. really wondering about the sound quality in case i end up using more of my memory with pics and apps in the future.

would it be worth it to me to convert the songs to 128kbps? will the sound be noticeably worse?
On the iPhone while moving around, sitting in an office, doing stuff, you will likely not notice any difference.
Perhaps if you sit in a very quiet room and really concentrate on listening, you may notice very minor differnece in quality.
That option is to save space on the iDevice. If you have plenty, don't use it.
Note that when you use this option on the Summary screen in iTunes, it only converts when adding to the iPhone.
Your library is not changed at all.

  • A question about migration assistant

    Hello,
I have a start up hard drive going bad, and I'd like to migrate all of my apps, prefs and user data to another internal drive.
Can I use Migration assistant to do this? Do I have to start up from the drive I'm migrating to? The newer drive already has content on it; a system, user and pics, etc. I don't care if the system and it's apps are replaced, but the work I have on there I'd rather not lose.
Am I going about this the right way, by using MA or do I need to try something else?
    I'm running 10.6.8 on an Intel 2.66
    Thanks for any suggestions.
    -Vincent

Yotu have to boot the Mac from the drive you want to migrate data to. The go to Migration Assistant in the Appls folder and open it.

  • Questions about updating to iOS5 on iPhone.

I recently updated my iPhone 4 to iOS5. I followed all the direcions, but when it was done and my phone loaded backup, none of my apps were on my phone. My downloaded tones and music were there, not my apps. Is there any way to get them back?
    Thanks for you time!

Yes, you can restore from backup, sync with itunes, or install them individually again.  I recommend one of the first 2 options, obviously.

  • Question about building an app for a single ad hoc distribution

Say I want to build and app and send the app, along with a provisioning profile, to somebody to install via iTunes for beta testing.
The "Ad Hoc" panel says the following:
Ad Hoc distribution allows you to share your application with up to 100 iPhone or iPod touch users, and to distribute your application through email or by posting it to a web site or server. To prepare your application, the following steps will need to be completed.
Create and Download an iPhone Distribution Certificate
Create and Download an Ad Hoc Distribution Provisioning Profile
    Build your application with Xcode
Share your application file and the Ad Hoc Distribution Provisioning Profile with the owner of each device
Recipients of the application will need to drag the application file and Ad Hoc Distribution Provisioning Profile into iTunes, then sync their iPhone to iTunes to install
My question is, do I have to build the application in the extremely complicated way described in the "distribution" tab which says "only the team agent" can do? Or is that for a mass distribution?
Can I build my app like I do for the simulator and just send that along with the provisioning profile to the other person by email?
What is the absolute easiest way of doing this sort of ad hoc distribution?
    Thanks!
    doug

Another development device? I don't even have one yet.
The person I'm developing with has one though.
It turns out all that needed to be done was:
    (1) Build using the iPhone OS setting instead of the Simulator setting.
    (2) Set the provisioning profile.
Then using the app and profile, just drop them on top of the apps section in iTune and synch.
That's all there was too it. I didn't need to use all the 11 steps in the distribution section for just the ad hoc distribution, I'm happy to say!
