Question about BIOS on Satellite 4000CDS?

Hello,
I bought a Toshiba 4000CDS some weeks ago, when I start my notebook, I see:
In Touch with Tomorrow
Toshiba
for 2 seconds, after that I need to enter a password to continue starting win98. I have no idea how to remove that password, and how I can enter the bios. I tried F1,F2,F10,Del,Esc.
Can someone help me?
Thanks

Hi,
It would be a good idea to contact the person from whom you purchased your notebook to ascertain the correct password for your BIOS.
If they do not know it then you will need to take the notebook to an authorised Toshiba Service centre to have the BIOS reset. They will need to verify that you are the legitimate owner and that the notebook has not been previously reported as stolen.
Personally I would be a bit suspicious if the person who sold it to you claims not to know, or to have forgotten the password.
I hope it all goes well for you.
regards,

  • Few questions about difference between Satellite P70 , L70, S70

Hello, i have many questions about the series P70 , L70, S70 that come with a 1920x1080 panel.
    1) What are the differences between the L70 and S70 series? Except of the HDD capacity and RAM, the notebooks look pretty identical.
    2) Do P70 , L70, S70 support a 2nd HDD or is it just the P70 series that support it ?
    3) Do all three (P70, L70, S70 series) come with the same TFT Panels ?
    4) Which of the above series supports mSata ?
    5) Do all of the model of each series come with a mSata support? E.g. Could it be that L70-a-13m supports mSata while the L70-a-146 does not ?
    6) All of the above, come with a S-ATA II or S-ATA III interface ?
    7) Which is the best of those series listed ? I am trying to understand what makes the big difference from S70 to P70 except of the casing for example.
    Thank you in advance.

    >1) What are the differences between the L70 and S70 series? Except of the HDD capacity and RAM, the notebooks look pretty identical.
What Sat L70 and S70 models do you mean exactly? There are different L70-xxx and S70-xxx models on the market which supports different hardware specifications.
    >2) Do P70 , L70, S70 support a 2nd HDD or is it just the P70 series that support it?
As you can see in this [Sat P70 HDD replacement document,|http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/CRU3903II0000R01.htm] the P70 series supports 2nd HDD bay BUT even if there is an 2nd HDD bay this does not mean that you could use 2nd HDD. In case the 2nd HDD bay would be equipped with HDD connector, you could use the 2nd HDD
I found also the [Sat L70/S70 HDD replacement |http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/CRU3703HG0000R01.htm] document on Toshiba page and there I can see that 2nd HDD bay is not available
    > 3) Do all three (P70, L70, S70 series) come with the same TFT Panels?
See point 1). Different P70, L70, S70 models were equipped with different hardware parts.
    > 4) Which of the above series supports mSata?
As far as I know only some P70 models are equipped with an 256GB mSATA-SSD.
    > 5) Do all of the model of each series come with a mSata support? E.g. Could it be that L70-a-13m supports mSata while the L70-a-146 does not ?
See point 4) not all models supports the same hardware specifications
    > 6) All of the above, come with a S-ATA II or S-ATA III interface ?
I dont think that SATA III is supported. I guess it would be SATA II
    > 7) Which is the best of those series listed ? I am trying to understand what makes the big difference from S70 to P70 except of the casing for example.
Not easy to answer because there are too many models released in Europea.
And not all models are available in each country. So I guess you will need to look for models which were released in your country.

  • Satellite Pro A200 - question about BIOS update

I have a Satellite Pro A200 (PSAE7E) with Windows Vista and XP that were installed recently.
In Toshiba's driver page (BIOS update) says:
"This Bios is only compatible for Notebooks with Windows Vista!!!!"
    1) Should I update my BIOS(1.4) or is it going to be a problem for my XP windows?
    2) Has anyone try it?
    3) Is there documentation about the BIOS updates (bug fixes, etc)?

    Hi madmak
I think the description should be clear if the BIOS description says that the BIOS is only compatible for notebooks with Windows Vista then you cannot use it with Windows XP.
I think nobody should check if an Vista BIOS would be run on the XP notebook because mostly a wrong BIOS can damage the motherboards ROM on in your case some notebook features will not run correctly.
I didnt find also any reports about any fixed BIOS bugs it seems something like that was not published on Toshiba European site.
best regads and happy new year ;)

  • Satellite X200-20G: Question about BIOS 2.20

    Hello,
Could you please bring me some lights on the warning which introduces the BIOS 2.20 upgrade:
*!!!* Upgrade the BIOS from Windows XP BIOS V5.10 only to VISTA BIOS V2.20 or higher *!!!*
Mainly I am interested in understanding what is the relationship with XP.
I have a Satellite X200-20G with the first hard drive loaded with Vista (default configuration) and a XP Home edition on the second Hard drive and I use the BIOS menu to boot on one side or the other.
    Thank you
    Guy.

    Hi
On some notebooks the BIOS must be updated to the XP version if the Win XP OS was installed.
The warning message says that if you have already updated the BIOS to XP version 5.10 then you could update it again only to the BIOS 2.20 Vista version.
But it looks like the XP BIOS version for Sat X200 doesnt exist at this time and in my opinion you could overlook this ;)
    Best regards

  • Equium L20-198: Question about BIOS and s-video out

I seem to be having two problems with this and that is when I put the bios password on above it on the screen is rubbish, scrammble symbols. Also it is supposd to come with s-video out but there is a black plastic in place its place

    Hello
I know definitely that S-Video port is not available on every Equium L20 model. Please check the notebook specification although I think that your model should have S-Video port. Please contact your local dealer and talk with them about this.
Your unit has valid warranty and if you think that there is some technical problem contact service partner and explain them the problem. Please dont make some BIOS update experiments if you are not familiar with this procedure.

  • Question about BIOS flashing

I am about to use MIS Live Update to flash BIOS 1.4 to my motherboard. First, is this a bad idea, or are there safer ways of doing this procedure? (to use live update instead of other methods?)
Second, it says 2. Please Disable the item (BIOS Protection) In BIOS Setup first. (Depending on mainboard). Does the K8N Neo Plat. have this option? I can't find it in the manuel or bios setup.
If there are safer methods, anybody have and good sites I can read about it?

    @tscenter:
I partly agree with you about floppydisks enduring for nearly 2 decades: I can remember myself going up and down my friends house for at least 10 times when I was young, because floppy with .a02 .a07 .a12 .a13 .a17 and a24 of an ARJ file had CRC errors on it! So I think floppy endured only because there was no better alternative (and don't tell me ZIP-drive was a good alternative, because how many poeple do you know who actually use this for non-business data swapping?)
    Anyhow...
I just booted with USB-FDD (Win98SE bootdisk) and copied the needed files for flashing to 1.55 beta onto my only FAT32 partition.
Flash procedure went okay, but I lost my nVidia NIC in Windows... Well at least I couldn't get it to receive an DHCP offer from my NAT/router. I got a strange looking  160.x.x.x somewhat IP with netmask 255.0.0.0    So I quickly flashed back to the official 1.40 (and NO commandline switches after AWFL833C.exe)
I used this guide by syar2003:
    Quote
    Remember :
Enter bios and load optimized default + save/exit , before flashing .
    Do the flashing to 1.55 with AWFL833D W7030NMS.155 /py/sn/wb/cc/cd/cp/f/r
Enter bios and load optimized default , and save .Important .
Boot once again after this without any changes/editing in bios to floppy prompt and let the dmi pool build and update itself.
Then boot/edit bios set your individual bios preferences.
    (see: https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?threadid=59711&sid=)
Does the /wb switch that syar2003 adds to the commandline freak-up my nVidia NIC (or it's MAC for that matter?)?

  • Equium L10-300 - Question about BIOS password

Hey all hope you can help a new user please.
Had a customer bring in an Equium L10-300 notebook. Somehow a password has been put on the BIOS and the boot up so I cannot do anything with it. I cannot boot from a CD and Ive tried a USB floppy, it looks at the floppy once and then just carries on to the password area. I was going to attempt a BIOS flash you see.
Im guessing maybe taking the bios battery out might help? But not sure where it is or how to get to it. Any links to manuals etc would be nice. Ive read that some newer Toshibas have special security chips now that hold the passwords etc.
Any help would be great thanks, really need to get this fixed.
    Mark

    Hello Mark
If you have customer I presume you work for one authorized service. The fact is that every authorized service has exact description how to remove BIOS password on each notebook model.
So if you are trying to remove BIOS password I cannot imagine you work for some baker. So much about your job.
Other important thing is that BIOS removal procedure is kind of top secret information and cannot be theme for public discussion. This information cannot be posted here. This will be great help for all people who try to enter stolen notebooks. Do you agree with me?
If your customer needs professional help send him to nearest Toshiba authorized service provider. They will know how to remove BIOS password.

  • Two questions about BIOS

suspend type: pwr on suspend - stop grant
1- what are differences between pwr on suspend and stop grant? which one should be chosen?
2- You might say are you kidding but I wonder, is it possible to flash a MS-6743 865GM2 board with a 865P board's BIOS (e.g: 865PEM2-ILS)?

Well, while it might be POSSIBLE to flash it, you should NEVER flash a bios with the wrong one, if it wasn't meant for your specific board, you could be asking for major trouble, including a fried bios chip, which would require either replacing the chip with a good one, or, buying a new board.  Why risk it?  Chances are, the 'wonder fix' you are looking for, won't work any way.  Also, since Stop Grant is the default, it is USUALLY the best way to go.

  • Question about Directdraw on Satellite P100-429 (pspa3e)

when i try and play a game on the laptop it said it "could not initialise the graphics. Make sure the video device and driver are compatible with direct draw."
Are there drivers out there? I believe the graphics card to be a nvidia geforce 7600 128mb.
When i use the nvidia website the drivers dont seem to work with the laptop!!

    Hi
Please check if the DirectX was installed on the notebook.
As far as I can remember the newest version is 9.0C.
After successful installation of the DirectX please start the application with command dxdiag. Then the DirectX should start and there you can enable the Directdraw accelerator.

  • Re: Question about the Satellite P300-18Z

    Hello everyone,
I have a couple of questions about the Satellite P300-18Z.
What "video out" does this laptop have? (DVI, s-video or d-sub)
Can I link the laptop up to a LCD-TV and watch movies on a resolution of 1080p? (full-HD)
What is the warranty on this laptop?

    Hello
According the notebook specification Satellite P300-18Z has follow interfaces:
DVI - No DVI port available
HDMI - HDMI-out (HDMI out port available)
Headphone Jack - External Headphone Jack (Stereo) available
.link - iLink (Firewire) port available

Also you can connect it to your LCD TV using HDMI cable.
Warranty is country specific and clarifies this with your local dealer but I know that all Toshiba products have 1 year standard warranty and also 1 year international warranty. you can of course expand it.

  • Some question about Toshiab reocvery disk for Satellite P300-133

    Hello guys ,
I got some questions about unpleasant recovery surprises :
*1)* I just made recovery DVD using Toshiba Recovery Disk Creator and it initially asked for 2 DVDs - but when the first one was done it didn`t require a second blanc DVD . Is it possible all system files of Windows Vista to be written on 1 DVD ?
*2)* Could I reinstall Windows Vista using the HDD Recovery option ( by pressing F8 ) without using recovery DVD ?
*3)* Which HDD partitions`ll be formatted ( just system C: or both C: and E: ) using HDD recovery ?
*4)* What is recovery DVD - Image of the hard drives or Vista installation files ?
Its pretty bad idea not to include OS on DVD when I have paid for it.
Thanks for all the problems to Toshiba :(

    1. I think the recovery disk creator means 2 CDs. I have a Portege M700 with Windows Vista and one DVD too. I recovered it and after this I have a clean Vista installation with all drivers and tools from Toshiba. Nothing is missing.
    2. Yes, you can reinstall Vista using the HDD Recovery option when you press F8 at startup. You dont need the recovery DVD but you should create one when your HDD get some errors or something else. If you need a new Recovery DVD, you have pay for one.
    3. The complete HDD and partitions will be formatted, so backup your data first on a DVD, external HDD, USB stick or something else.
After the reinstallation you have the factory settings.
    4. The recovery DVD is an image of the HDD about the factory settings. If you make a recovery, there are all drivers and tools already installed. Of course on the disk are the installations files of Vista, but you can only use this DVD on your Satellite P300. The disk can not be used on an other Satellite or on a PC.
When you have more questions, have a look in the user manual. There are a many in formations about the recovery. Its in chapter 3.
