Question about black side bars CS6

I am exporting media from and HD 1080 original, I use the H264 preset, everything looks fine in Media Encoder, once it's encoded the image doesn't fill the screen, I have black bars on left and right. Why? What can I do?

my export settings are 1080i, 16:9 ratio 1440x1080. My export settings are the same. These black bars appear in my computer even when I am not exporting to DVD but exporting H264 of FLV. When I view the footage in Media Encoder prior to exporting the composition is fine there are no black bars. However, once it's exported in any format the bars appear.

Go into iPhoto's Appearance preference pane and move the Background slider all the way to the left - black.

Why does my 720 x 480 clip not fit in my 720 x 480 sequnce? (Black side bars)

Hopefully someone understands, I'm trying to make an edit with some Mini DV Standard Definition footage in Premiere Pro CS5 and Im using a Mac with Lion 10.7.4. All of the clips are .mov and 720 x 480 and I have the sequence set to DV - NTSC 720x 480. I'm noticing that the clips just about fit the frame size except for these thin black bars on the sides. It became more noticeable when I tried using a video transition as seen in the photo below. The bars do not show when watching the clip in quicktime only when in a premiere or in an exported video. This also happens in After Effects as well. Any help on getting rid of these black bars woud be appreciated. Or are they supposed to be there?

what additional parameters do I need to give you that would diagnose this problem? Or are you just being a snobby forum dude that has to give the person in need of help a hard time. If you can't help me with the information I've given you probably dont know the answer to my question. How about I rephrase my question. Have you ever seen a problem like this occur, and if so what setting or "parameter" was incorrect that caused this?
I do not mean to seem snobby, but what I am missing is the PAR of the Source Footage. If it's been posted above, then I apologize, as I just did not see it (even on re-reading the thread).
As for my knowing the answer, you could be correct. However, it sounds like there is a mis-match between the PAR in your Sequence, and that of your Source Footage. The "small black lines" sound like the difference between a Sequence PAR of 1.212 (Widescreen non-square pixels) and PAR of 1.0 (square pixels). But, then I could be wrong on that, and it's the reason that I wanted to be able to compare the PAR of the Sequence, and the PAR of the Source Footage. If we rule that out, then we need to look elsewhere for a solution.

Black side bars

Hi,
I just had a 2 camera 16:9 DV shoot using a pair of Iki's.
I noticed that when i brought the footage into fcp, there a black bars on the side of the video. my sequence and capture settings are 16X9 and they are fine. I looked at other footage I have from a few other past projects, no problem..no black bars. I assume this is the camera? My question is how can I get rid of it without resizing the video itself (which would make it blurry) The final output will be on DVD. Thanks

thanks for the reply....yes, for the most part it is a thin line. one camera looks like about 6 pixels of black on the left and the other camera about 3 pixels on the right. very odd this difference and why it is not consistent in both cameras. i did burn a dvd and could not notice the lines because, as you suggest, of overscan. however, trying to compress for the web, the line is very visible when i try to make a qt movie.

After rotating video, how do I change the black side bars from black to white?

In the bad old days when I used iMovie, I coud rotate a video 90 degrees and get black bars on either side of the video. Then I could add the negative effect and it would not only give me the negative of the video itself but it would also change the black bars to white bars, something I quite liked for the project I was working on. This doesn't automatically happen in FCP X, so my question is How do I change the black sidebars to white sidebars (without changing anything in the video itself)? Thanks.

Make a white generator and put it underneath the video. The pillars are not black. They're empty.

Black side bars--NOT widescreen

I know I've read about this a long time ago but have since forgotten it and I can't seem to dig up the answer in the archives so I ask for patience.
I just made a long-term loan of my now-unused Canon GL 1 to a friend who is doing some extensive video streaming and needed a better camera than the little consumer contraption he had been using.
He just called to ask why he was getting these thin black lines on the right and left of the frame in his QT movies were he hadn't gotten them with his old camera. I remembered this issue coming up in the distant past but couldn't rememeber what the issue was; mainly because I never had a problem with them as they outside the video-safe area and therefore never seen on anything I did when televised. Actually, I told him that I was surprised to hear he WASN'T getting them with his old camera.
What are these lines, why are these lines, and what can be done about them if anything? Again, this is a first-generation GL 1 so we're not talking about letterboxing or any kind of issue like that. This is straight 4:3 minidv footage. Also while we both have updated versions of most apps involved, this is an issue that went back to when I was using QT 5 and FCP 1.2.5 so it ain't anything like that.

The following is an extract from a GL1 review <http://www.bealecorner.com/gl1/res/gl1res.html>:
"You will note on the full 720x480 firewire frames, there are two black bars at left and right on the image: 7 pixels wide on the left and 6 pixels wide on the right, so the active image area is only 707x480 pixels. These bars are in the "overscan" region of any normal TV or monitor and thus not visible on video; however, this means stills obtained via firewire must be cropped to remove them."
This seems to indicate that this "problem" is due to the design/manufacturing of the GL1 and is normal for the camera. If targeting the final file for play on a computer (or similar device) and this "defect" bothers you, would normally recommend a crop/scale action be included during the final compression.

Questions about Student Discounts for CS6

I know for a fact I want to get the CS6 Production Premium from B&H, but only recently did I realize that my media production class could potentially make me eligible for a student discount. I have a few questions regarding getting a student discount as I have never gotten one before.
My first question is: will I ever have to pay the rest of the full price? Or more importantly, will the student version stop working after a period of time?
My second and most important question is about installing on more than 1 PC. I'm currently on my beast of a laptop. The iMac at my school with CS6 runs smooth as butter, and it's lower spec than my laptop. Despite this, I plan on getting a monster desktop PC in the future for my productions, and I'm confused about my rights of installation with a student copy. I fully understand that I cannot install it on another persion's computer; only on my own computer. It mentions (for teacher's I assume) that you need to purchase additional licenses for installing on other computers. Does this mean that when I buy a new computer, I need to buy a new license as well? Or can I just use the one that came in the box?

Your license doesn't expire and you never have to pay the price difference.You can only install the suite on one type of computer, even if you have 2 activations. A PC serial won't work on Mac and vice versa. Only 2 PC installs will work or 2 Mac ones, respectively. Activations can be managed from within the apps or by giving customer support a call to reset them, if you used them up and forgot to deactivate.

Another question about altering nav bar templates

I'm currently building a site using the "modern" template in iweb. So far I've been able to do a lot of customizations, which I love, but the nav bar is driving me CRAZY!
I've read a bunch of other topics and from that I've managed to create my own text box nav bar, but it's still not 100% what I'd like. Here's what I'm looking for:
I love the modern template except the rollover colour in the nav bar being red. I'd like the colour to be dark grey when rolled over just like it is when you're visiting the current page. I made my own text bar in that way but now when I'm on a specific page, that page heading in the nav bar doesn't stay highlighted in dark grey. Is that clear? I'm not familiar with web design and the language that corresponds so if there's anything I can do to clarify, please let me know. I need to know how I can get both: nav bar rolled over in dark grey AND the current page (page being viewed) in dark grey. If anyone has any information to help, I'd greatly appreciate it!

Thanks for the help. I've already done what you suggested but it unfortunately doesn't answer what I'm looking for.
In the modern template, when you're on a specific page, that page's header in the nav bar is dark grey whereas the other tabs in the nav bar remain light grey. I don't want the tabs the change after they've been clicked, rather, I want to keep the function of the template and simply change the rollover colour. Two questions:
1. Is there are way to make a text nav bar do the same thing as the template so when I'm viewing a specific page, the page's nav bar tab remains dark grey but goes back to light grey when I'm viewing a different page?
2. Thank you for the link with the HTML snippet. I had found that link last week but couldn't find it again. I don't know how to alter HTML so while this seems like a great option, I'm wondering how it works. If I put an HTML snippet in the header, is it viewable when the website is live? Is there a way to view the source code of a page?
I apologize if these questions seem rudimentary....I'm quite new to all of this!!!

A few questions about my navigation bar, centering, getting rid of margins and changing colours via

I am having a few problems with my navigation bar, could be quite simple fixes but I haven't managed to find an answer yet that works. I am wanting to get rid of the white margins at the top of my page and just below the nav bar and centre the text on the page. I want to get rid of the gradient and turn the background white, black text and a light grey hover background. I have a link here

Question about Black Apple Pro Mouse...

Hi guys,
Just picked up a Black Apple Pro Mouse (I know it's old but I've not found a Black Mighty mouse to go with my black MacBook).
On the bottom is a dial with a minus, zero and plus settings. I've searched Apple's hardware database and can't find anything to tell me what it does. I've had a play with it and it doesn't seem to make any noticeable difference to pointer speed or light intensity, so thought I'd ask you lot...
Anyone know what it is or what it does?

Question about databases in dreamweaver cs6

I need to clarify that I am very new to phpmyadmin, mysql, and databases. This is what i am stucked with.
Currently, I have one table (book) which contains these attributes (ISBN(primary key), title, author, publisher, price etc) in my database (book)
I have the other table (users) which contains these attributes (username (primary key), password, name, DOB etc) in my database (user)
Let me explain the series of steps first. An user logs in on the log in page successfully, and he will be directed to the main page, then he will type or select his search terms, then the results page will display the relevant results in the master list, then he will select the specific result to go to the detailed page containing more information.
What I want now is to create a reservation page. If the user likes the specific book in the detailed page, he can click reserve it, and will be directed to the reservation page.
I intend to have these search textfields: Username, Title, Price, Number of orders.
How can I let the username textfield to be automatically filled as the user has logged in at the login page initially. Also, how can I let the title and price textfield to be automatically filled, as the user has clicked reserve it at the specific detailed page? I intend that the user just key in number of orders and press submit button. My 3rd database (reservation) will capture the info of username, title, price, and number of orders. Do i use insert record or update record?
Do i create a relational table in phpmyadmin by linking it with the keys from tables (book and users)? Will this be a many to many relationship? I intend my third table to have these attributes (reservation no (primary key), username, title, price, no, of orders and date of collection?
Moreover, how do I auto generate the date of collection (for e.g. it will be 5 days after the point of time when the user click the submit button) in my third table ?

So now you have Title, Price, Full Name and Email values which you can get from the Reservations page form. What are you intending to do with it? Insert that into a table in your database?
Also what are you planning to do with the Reservation Number and Date of Collection?
As previously mentioned you can add the Collection Date to the reservations page if you want and pass it along with the rest of the data via a hidden from field if you need to.

Question about education version of cs6: once per year restriction and cross platform

I am an education use of cs6, which I currently use on my mac. I now have a windows pc, which I would also like to use cs6 on concurrently. My understanding is my existing license doesn't cover cross-platform use, so I would have to buy a new license. However, education licenses also have a once per year restriction (ie. you can only buy 1 license per title per year). So my question is, for the purpose of the once per year restriction, does the windows version count as a different title from the mac version (ie, is it once per year per title per platform)?

Question about safari status bar

I have a web application , mainpage contained an iframe . the Page in iframe will set data to status bar . And mainpage will scan status bar by a timer to get the update info . All the flow was controlled by JavaScript .
It works fine with IE , but for Safari , i saw the status bar was updated and the data is correct , but window.status alway be empty .
Did anyone know how to get the data ? if Safari can show the correct data in status bar , it should mean the browser contains the data , right?

BTW , the version number of my Safari is 5.0.1

Question about ScrollPane scroll bar

Currently I am working in Flash Professional 8. I need to
customize the scroll bar in the ScrollPane. I figured out how to
customize the graphics.
Instead of the lil grey scroll bar that you can drag I want
it to be an arrow. I made it into an arrow but there appears to be
some sort of size restriction on it and the arrow I created appears
distorted. Is there some way I can change this size restriction and
have the scroll bar be 100 pixels high if I wanted it to be?
