Question about buying Applecare for iPod online

When I purchased my iMac I purchased Applecare from my dealer, getting the little red box to bring home, and later I registered the Applecare online successfully.
Now I wish to purchase Applecare for a 5G iPod that is nearing it's 1 year anniversary. Because of timing I thought I would go to the online Apple store and purchase it that way. Proceeding through the steps, however, it looks like I can just order it online and have the little red box shipped to my home (for later online registration.) That worries me in case the package doesn't arrive in time to meet the requirement to do this within the first year.
Is there no way to purchase online, pay with credit card, and be sent to the online registration area immediately, without waiting for the little red box? (My dealer is out of Applecare boxes at the moment.)
20" Intel Core Duo iMAC   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Thanks again, Chuck
I am still having trouble with this. First, I am in Canada so go to the equivalent Canadian Apple web site and it is laid out slightly differently.
So I followed your steps to see how the US site differed and didn't see a "sale" graphic but instead a "save" graphic. (I assumed that's the one you meant) so I followed that path and indeed did find the Applecare for iPod link. I started to go through the steps there, but as far as I was going it looked exactly like what happens on my Canadian site where it ends up asking me for the shipping address and my Visa number and I get to chance to register directly.
But the local dealer that I use, has some coming in this week and will hold one for me, which should be in time. If something happens to delay that shipment there are other dealers in town I can try as well.

  • AppleCare for iPod Question

Hi, last month my on/off button of my iPod touch just broke.
So I take it to Apple store and they gave me a new one.
The question is . . . If I buy an applecare for ipod, which serial number should I apply with?
The old one? or a new one?

    Thank you ! !
    Very quick reply.

  • I'm looking to buy a new Macbook Pro, and have questions about the Applecare extended warranty?

I'm looking to buy a new Macbook Pro, and have questions about the Applecare extended warranty? I want to know if the 3 year extended warranty covers what damage. Like water damage, accidental damage, lost or stolen macbook, manufactory defects, or any other kind of damage, maybe be even cosmetic damage. Can anyone help me?

If you are talking about features of the MBP itself, as long as you are not looking at  the Retina models, then the memory you can upgrade yourself for a lot less than Apple charges, and that does not affect the warranty as Apple considers memory a user permitted upgrade.  Great sources are Crucial and OWC, both are Mac specialists and have on-line videos on how to do the install.
If the 15" is what you are looking at, a good upgrade is the 7200 rpm hard drive, gives a little better performance over the standard 5400 rpm drive.
The Hi Res screen is good if you do a lot of graphics work.
Comparing the 13" amd 15" you will notice the 15" has a second, discrete graphic processor...helps when you get into heavy duty videos, games, graphics...but keep in mind that kicking in the second processor uses a lot of power and will run the battery down faster.
If you are looking at the Retina models, then keep in mind there are no post-purchase upgrade options...you have to buy with everything you want at the start.
    Just some thoughts.

  • Applecare for ipod touch

worth getting an applecare for ipod touch?
can i still use an unopened/unregistered Applecare for ipod (orange box) for the ipod touch?
    thanks a lot

I disagree with Jordan. I think AppleCare well worth the cost. If the battery dies during the second year you own the iPod, the cost of replacing the battery out of warranty would more than cover the cost of AppleCare which covers the battery in iPods. AppleCare also provides you two full years of phone support should you have a question (the standard warranty provides 90 days of free support). Not to mention the cost of any other repairs (even if the warranty still applies, after 180 days you have to pay shipping if you have to send in your iPod, which you don't if you have AppleCare). So to my mind, it's cheap peace of mind.

  • Questions about Feature Licenses for 1800, 2800, 3800, 2900, 3900 series ISRs

    Hey all,
I have a question about feature licensing for Cisco ISR 1800, 2800, 3800, 2900 series. I know there are differences between all of the series. My main question which applies for all the Cisco ISR series is this:
"If I want to upgrade the IOS to a newer version and upgrade from the basic feature set, do I need to get a license from Cisco? "
    If yes:
And if so, how do I go about purchasing a license? Is a support contract needed?
Again, I need to know for each Cisco ISR series. I'd appreciate any help on this.
    Thanks,
    John

You probably want to reach your SE/AM about this so they can explain you exactly how this works, maybe some sales material, or you can also reach pre-sales.

  • Best and safest place to buy movies for iPod

Recommendation on the best and safest place to buy movies for iPod. iTunes Store has limited supply and does not carry some of those I like. Thanks!

    Because of the multiple problems:
Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for $199 for 64 GB 4G and $99 for the other 4Gs. They do not fix yours.

  • Questions about buying new Macbook

I have a 2001 iBook, still going and going. It was my first computer. I want to replace it by buying a Macbook. I make webpages, blog, no videogaming, no heavy graphics apps (like PS), only a couple of third-party apps.
I'm very short of breath so, even though there is an Apple Store in town, it's much better for me to order the Macbook, printer, and any accessories at the online Apple Store, if possible.
    1) The 2001 iBook out-of-box had 128mb RAM. I had to install more RAM (upped it to 384mb RAM) because 128mb was really not sufficient, even with my lightweight use. It had seemed slow and clunky performance-wise. I would rather just buy a Macbook with enough RAM to begin with. Is 1GB going to be the same problem - not quite enough? Should I buy the $1299 2GB model?
    2) The HD was replaced through AppleCare a year after I got the iBook. I wondered if it was my fault in a way because I was new to computers (I had a lot of Kernel Panics at first and once, without thinking I unplugged the computer at the wall socket once during an electrical storm, not realizing that wasn't a good way to shut down). Since then there have been no problems. Now that I have a even touch, work speed, and a sense of how the computer files are organized, I'm not a raw novice. I don't plan to experiment with the Macbook or make myself a rootuser, just work within the GUI. Do I really need AppleCare on the new Macbook? Are those AppleCare repairs largely brought on by user damage? I don't want to buy AppleCare unless it's suicide not to.
    3) I have the iBook on my desk on a piece of cardboard. It never overheats. It has never left my desk, and I don't ever use it on my lap. I like the iBook because it's compact, not because I want to carry it around to coffee shops. However, does a Macbook need some sort of special support like Rain Design iLap to raise it off the desk so it doesn't overheat?
    4) Can I buy the $29 Apple iPod Earphones to plug into the Macbook?
    5) Is iKlear really safe to use on screens? (I've always used water on my iBook, not very effective.)

You'll see a big difference switching from iBook to MacBook.
Unless you need the Superdrive, get the cheapest MB with a CD drive or for more money saving buy a refurbished from the online store. Adding RAM and changing the hard drive is easy to do in the MB if you need to do it later.
Applecare is only two years added to the original one year. You seemed to do fine without it for a number of years on the iBook so why worry about it. Applecare does not cover user inflicted damage, just manufacturing faults.
I have a new Penryn MB which does not seem to have any heat problem but I still use an incline base under it for the typing angle. I sometimes pressure the MB with PS, video, burning and such but no problems.
With the world aflame with iPods and other MP3 players, you can get a wide selection of earphones at most computer/electronic stores. I like the in-ear type which makes the music sound like it is in the middle of my brain instead of coming from the outside.
iKlear is recommended by Apple but I find it streaky. I use a moist cloth, don't touch the screen and keep my hands clean when using the computer.

  • Excessive packaging for AppleCare for iPod?

    Hi!
In general I've ben really happy with my Apple computer and iPod, but just last week I enrolled in the iPod "AppleCare" for an extended year (even though they try to sell it as "2 years" it's really only one year that you are buying on top of the one year you get just for buying the iPod.. but that's a different post).
I got a giant 14"X12"X4" package in the mail. Inside there was a bunch of packing material to "protect" the AppleCare box (which is only 9"X6"X.05"). Inside the AppleCare box are two pieces of paper telling me to enroll online.
Am I the only person who finds this not only ridiculous, but also environmentally and practically counter-productive!? There was no need for any of that packaging! I could have received the docs in a letter envelope! Even better, why not just send me a PDF file!?!? I have to purchase this online, then I have to register online, wo why not send me the info online too? There wasn't even an option to have this info delivered electronically! This kind of backward thinking and extremely excessive packaging is inexcusable for a company that says they "think different."

Why do you say SPAM? this is a legitimate question that I think ought to be answered. Aside from the environmental issues, it's a cost issue. All that shipping material and fees could easily be eliminated and I could be charged less money. Why doesn't Apple even offer electronic options?

  • Cannot buy applecare+ for iphone

i ONLY found out about applecare+ for iphone through a friend. i tried to buy it online, but it said i need to make a genius appointment. so i made the appointment. when i went in they said i was past 30 days since i bought the phone so i had to call applecare.
i called applecare, after 4 hours on the phone i got escalated all the way to a senior admin applecare agreement admin who would not help me purchase the applecare+.
i'm at a loss for what to do. nowhere in the terms and services does it say you have to buy within 30 days of purchase. they added it to the website after the fact. anyway, i made the appointment when i was within my 30 days.
Here is proof their terms and conditions do NOT specify a day limit for purchase except within the first 2 years of purchase:
    http://www.apple.com/legal/applecare/applecareplusforiphone.html
    please help!

the apple website is not the official terms and agreement, legally. what i linked to is the legal terms and agreement. nowhere there does it say there is any kind of limit on when you can purchase it.
if it is ONLY listed on their website, then technically they would have to require each apple store employee to take you to that site when you buy the phone.
as i've said, the APPLE employee that sold me the phone did not tell me there was a 30 day limit on my warranty purchase availability, nor did ANY of the follow-up emails from Apple congratulating me on my ******** purchase of this crappy phone.
it is misdirection and false advertising and misrepresenting the product.
the 30 day is an artifice created by Apple. This was verified to me by Eric and Lonnie and Frank and Valisha all from Apple support.
I'm trying to ascertain if other apple users have had this same problem with Apple violating their contract with users.
see the link I posted above. there is no reference to a 30 day limit.

  • AppleCare for iPod Classic?

I'm in the market for an 80 gig iPod Classic and was wondering if it's worth the $60 for AppleCare. I have it on my MacBook Pro and it's come in handy for battery issues but am wondering if anyone can say if it's worth it for the iPod.
    Thanks!

If you have minimum experience with troubleshooting an iPod, it very well may be worth it. The one thing you have to remember is that you only have the one free phone call for help with troubleshooting, after that you have to pay. I bought a 160GB right after the holidays & didn't buy AppleCare as I felt pretty comfortable due to helping on these boards for over 3 years that I could handle most common problems that the iPod might have.
AC did save my socks on my 2 1/2 year old G5 as I lost the HD about a month ago which was replaced at no charge with AC.

  • Questions about using a PDF form online

I have a client who wants to create an online version of a PDF form that they are currently using. I am currently trying to explain to them that this would be best done as an HTML web form, but I may not win this argument. I have only used PDFs for printed forms (either hand-written or using form fields) so I am not familiar with any problems that converting the form for use online would entail.
When the 'Submit' button is pressed on the form, is there a way to redirect to another web page after the data is submitted? (i.e. does the PDF have access to it's outer 'environment'?)
Are there any security issues submitting data using the PDF form as opposed to using a standard web form? (There may be sensitive data being submitted)
I'm not sure how they plan to handle the data that is submitted, but there are several options in the submitForm parameters - I am assuming that using the HTML option would submit the data in the same format as a web form would. Am I correct here?
Can the PDF be prevented from being downloaded or printed? This form should only be used to submit data to their server, not as a printed form.
Are there any other 'gotchas' that I need to look out for? Does anyone have a recommendation for a site which contains any tutorials or guidelines for using PDF forms online?

    Thanks for the information.
Yes, I agree that there is less reason for it to be a PDF form (Actually, no real reason other than the original form already exists in PDF), but I am unfortunately in the position that my input in this project is not necessarily being considered (my company is following direct -and inconsistent- directions from the client, and I have no contact with the client to ask questions about what their actual needs are). I have been told to give the client the 'Tomato' that they are asking for, even though they are describing an 'Apple'.
The reason this form is not meant to be printed is that we have replaced the 'Signature' fields from the original form with checkboxes that the user must check to confirm they have 'signed' the document. If they are to print/fax/whatever the document, they should use the original form, not this one. And I am still trying to explain to them that this would be better served with an HTML web form, but I fear I am losing that battle.
I have brought up the fact that it is not 100% guaranteed that Acrobat will be available in the browser, although I can only guess that it is less than likely that anyone will not have some sort of PDF viewer available to their browser.
I will also mention that issues may arise if the file is not submitted from within the browser.

  • Can I Buy Applecare for Used iBook?

I am thinking of buying a used iBook that was first released about 6 months ago. Does anyone know if I can purchase Applecare for this iBook, that I am not the original owner of? Thanks for any insight.

I would of assumed so, but I have a nagging doubt that someone posted (ages ago) that this was not possible.
I would suggest that you contact Apple directly so that you will know for sure.
You can search for the terms and conditions of AppleCare, it talks about Transferring the plan. Being from Sydney I've linked to the Asia Pacific version (this maybe useless for you though - not sure where you're from).
