Question about CL(CAS Latency) in Bios

Currently the C.L is on 2.5.
There is an option for 2.0 in the Bios.
I was wondering if such a setting would make any difference to the PC's stability or performance
Answers ASAP please.
Thanks

The Stuff in the signature will apply on May 31st(as I have said).
At present the PSU and graphics card, plus graphics drivers are not as posted.
It's at 2.5 at present and doing fine.
Thanks syar, I'll amend the settings on Tuesday 31st May

  • Question about 23" ACD, windows XP, Bios & AGP card

I bought a 23" ACD for my wife's computer, not realizing that an issue with displaying the BIOS existed. ( We Mac users are deprived of messing with BIOS, fortunately).
    Two questions.
As the last thread about this is nearly a year old, is there anyone out there with an AGP card that successfully sees the BIOS on boot-up and has a card useful for intensive PowerPt use. Could you please post the exact card used.
And, anyone care to explain why some cards cannot show the BIOS on boot-up while others can.
    thanks in advance.

  • Question about top case

    Hi there,
I'd like to know if the "top case/keyboard" part also includes the trackpad?
I'm asking because I just had the top case replaced (was interfering with the fan that produced a clicking sound) and it looks like they replaced it with a used one?! For example, the bottom left corner shows a 1.5 inch square, lighter gray patch (as if there was a sticker there?), and the middle of the trackpad button is very shiny compared to the sides, like it's been used...
    Thanks for any input!
    whitebook 2.0Ghz - 4H622   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   2GB RAM

The top case includes the trackpad and trackpad button.
This is at the moment a bit of a sore subject with me. After my MacBook was returned from being repaired for the random shutdown problem, the trackpad button does not respond at all to clicks in the lower right corner. (The repair consisted of replacing the top case and heat sink.) So half the time when I click the button, it doesn't work, because the right end is where I click most often.
Yesterday I talked to AppleCare phone support, and the Product Specialist suggested I talk to a store Genius, that maybe it could be fixed or else the turnaround for a new top case would be faster than shipping.
I did that this morning, and the Genius claimed that the behavior was within specs, that it would not bother his typing since you're supposed to click in the middle of the button, that it was equivalent to complaining about a couple of dead pixels.
I haven't had a return call yet from the Product Specialist, and I'm currently planning on trying a different Apple store tomorrow.
I see "mushy trackpad button" is one of the common complaints on web forums:

  • I HAVE A QUESTION ABOUT USING CASE STRUCTURE

Can I compute a percentage using case structure?
In the following query below, I have been able to use CASE STRUCTURE to add to a counter when days were between 0 and 30, or when days were between 31 and 60 or when days were between 61 and 90 or when days were between 91 and 9999. I have also been able to get a GRAND TOTAL of all days between 0 and 9999. This is done in the LAST ITEM of the SELECT STATEMENT. The FIRST ITEM of the SELECT STATEMENT counts rows of records being processed. I want to take the LAST ITEM of the SELECT STATEMENT and MULTIPLY it by 100 and then DIVIDE it by the FIRST ITEM of the SELECT STATEMENT to get a percentage. I know that you can do this with numeric fields in a file but is there a way to do this in CASE STRUCTURE with calculated totals?

  • Question about this case statement...Never seen it written this way

I have this case statement written by a developer and i am trying to understand what he was trying to accomplish with writing it in this manner
    CASE t_CELL
                    WHEN 'XML' THEN
                        'Mods'
                    ELSE
CASE WHEN t_CELL IS NOT NULL THEN
                            t_Cell
                        ELSE
                            CELL
                        END
                    END
                = CELL OR CASE t_CELL
                    WHEN 'XML' THEN
                        'Amps'
                    ELSE
CASE WHEN t_CELL IS NOT NULL THEN
                            t_Cell
                        ELSE
                            CELL
                        END
END = CELL);What is throwing me off is the = CELL that was included..Kindly note, this is just a sample code

    Hi,
If x and cell are strings, then I trust you understand what it means to compare them by saying:
x = cellx can be any kind of expression that returns a string.
For example, do you understand what it means if x is a string literal, like this?
'Amps' = cellDo you understand what it means when x is another string column, like this?
t_cell = cellDo you understand what it means when x is a function that returns a string, like this?
TO_CHAR (SYSDATE, 'Dy') = cellIn the code you posted, the CASE expression is just another way of specifying a string value for x:
CASE ... END = cellA CASE expression is just another kind of expression, that is, another thing that can replace x on the left of the = sign.
It looks like the condition you posted is equivalent to:
    (     (     t_cell     = 'XML'
         AND     cell     IN ('Amps', 'Mods')
    OR     (     t_cell     != 'XML'
         AND     cell     = t_cell
    OR          t_cell     IS NULL
    )

  • Question About Vaja Cases

I recently bought a neoprene case for my Zen Touch (not from Vaja). All well and good.
At the same time, I also bought a rubberized skin for my Touch. Great.
But the thing is, I can't fit the Zen Touch into my neoprene case while the skin is attached. Anyone know whether the Vaja cases would be able to fit the Zen Touch with the skin on it's
Thanks. I hate to think that I spent $80 for these two items and can't use one without the other.

All Vaja cases I've see have a 'snug' fit and my guess is that it wont fit while the silicone case is on.

  • Question about eVo3 case

I'm considering the iskin eVo3 case for my 30gig 5g ipod but I can't tell if I remove the best clip from the case, will it still have a plastic knob on the back or will it be able to lay flat on my dashboard. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

    Read this:
"Included with every eVo3 is the sleek and functional RevoClip 2. This low-profile polycarbonate clip rotates to give you the best angle to control your iPod when clipped to your belt. It can be completely removed so that you can easily slip your iPod into a pocket or bag."
    Hope this helps.

  • Few questions about setting HDD password in BIOS

In the BIOS, theres an option to set passwords on the hard drives
    Has anybody used this?
What exacty does this do? Makes you have to enter a password whenever you access the hard drive?
    Please expound

If you use your notebook for private purposes only and if there is no risk for you that someone else can have access to your data I dont recommend you to set HDD password.
It is very nice and good feature if you have sensible data saved on your HDD and use your notebook in company or take it with you.
All other information you can pick up from the Toshiba document.

    why not

    and,
as far as I know, timeslot 1st for framing, why timeslot 1st, included in

  • KTV4 DDR266 memory CAS latency compatability - question

I am planning to upgrade my DDR266 RAM from 512MB to 1GB by adding a 512MB module.
The current module is CL2, but all available upgrades are CL2.5. Supliers all recommend CL2.5 modules. Will I have a problem if I mix CL2 with CL2.5? I have ask a couple of memory suppliers about the CL compatability, but they will not express an opinion.
If there is an issue, I was wondering if setting CAS# Latency in BIOS to CL2.5 will help.

    Hello,
You should never mix memory modules that are different.
Yes it can work fine but for optimum performance you must match.
Sometimes both modules will not work together
    PC will BSOD a lot
    Or it will be ok.
Yes setting the memory timing to CL=2.5 in the BIOS will make the other memory module run at CL=2.5 but there are more timings that just the CAS latency.
All must be the same/old module must be capable of running at new modules timings.
Will the new module be DDR266?
I would recommend you get some new sticks, PC3200 (<will run at 266DDR) 2x512MB and sell the old one.

  • Questions about flashing the bios

Hi everyone. I have a few questions about the process involved in a bios update.
First, I should tell you I have a Lenovo G470 that sometimes has problems booting.
The problem is I turn on the laptop and after 2-3 seconds it shuts down. I see the logo, and nothing else. After that I can spend hours trying to turn it on again, and keeps failing. After some time, I turn it on and use it without problems.
Before these problems, I had experienced similar troubles, but I could fix it (in my way) and I explained it in this post: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-3000-and-Essential/Lenovo-g470-shutdown-problems-in-intervals-of-...
Ok, In that post a reply says that a possible solution could be a Bios update. So, I've been thinking to flash the bios to solve my actual problem, but I would like to ask you some questions:
    1. Updating the bios could be a solution for this case?
    2. How long does it take to update a lenovo G470 bios? (I ask this because I read that if a problem occurs in the middle the damage can be serious, and in the past I had these random shutdowns, so I'm a bit afraid)
    3. How am I sure if my bios is or not updated? (there's a way to check this from windows?)
    4. Finally, if you could give me a link to download the correct bios update I'll thank you.
I think that's all. I apologize for my basic english and hope you could give me some clues on this, because, as you see, I'm a total newbie.
    Thanks!

    hi alemaneitor,
    Regarding your questions:
    1. Yes, flashing the BIOS may help solve your problem as it will re-write the configurations on the CMOS. Take note though of the changelogs or README (repair changes) as the latest BIOS updates fixes critical issues on the hardware.
I've also seen some units that act the same as yours and doing a gpu reflow most of the time fixes the issue - see this thread in reference.
    2. In flashing the BIOS outside of Windows, it takes less than a minute. If you need to run the BIOS flash utility inside Windows, it may take 1-2mins.
    3. If there's a new BIOS that fixes critical issues, it's most of the time uploaded on the lenovo website (in some cases, BIOS updates are not available to the public and can only be used by service technicians)
    4. The latest BIOS update for the Lenovo G470 is the one below that fixes an issue on units that can not enter BIOS after restart under compatible HDD mode (see README.TXT)
    BIOS Update for 32bit Windows
    40cn33ww_32.exe
    3.28MB
    BIOS Update for 64bit Windows
    40cn33ww_64.exe
    3.67MB

  • BUG with Memory CAS-Latency with MSI i848P Neo-LS BIOS

I have a bug with MSI i848P Neo-LS BIOS. I try many MSI i848P with same trouble : the CAS Latency is always set to 2.0 even if the memory is CAS Latency 2.5.
It doesn't depend on PSU or others things (graphics card,...).
    Try with Pentium 4C 2.6 or 2.8
But I have just one brand of memory (but many different sticks). Chips reference are VT56DD32M8PC-5 (256 or 512 Mb). This memory are reference as Cas Latency 2.5
If I set memory timings on SPD or manual : same result !!!
If I set memory speed on AUTO or 400 MHz : same result  !!!
If I set other timings, then they are save correctly (ie : RAS# precharge set to 3 or 4).
    I check timings with latest version of Memtest86+ V1.0 : http://www.memtest.org/
and of course, I get many errors.
The same memory tested on others mobo, give good results.
I try Windows XP installation and I get....  blue screens.
With some memory sticks : I have this message "memory timing too tighly",
if I press F1 to continue: then I get a memory cas latency of 2.5 with memtest86+ and then no error.
I try BIOS revision 1.0 (default) and 1.2: same result !!!
So, as I said before, I think this is a bug with the BIOS. I agree that a BIOS cannot detect correctly all kind of memory, but if you set memory timings manualy, then it must be set as you want ! ?
    Any idea...
    Thanks

    H0 Alex,
You are correct.I have the same problem with my 875p neo lsr on bios 1.9. TH0S 0S B0OS BUG.but everyone says your psu is not enough or your rams isnt  on the MSI Memory Compatability List.
why all of rams I try give same result?
MS0 boards works only with 10 or 20 ram.you don't say customer why you use this rams?
why in asus boards many os these rams working properly. This rams isnt on the MSI Memory Compatability List.but working.I try many no name rams and results are very good in all of the tests.
In my opinion MS0 bioses doesnt work good enough.

  • Question about autodiscover in case of multiple bound namespace

    Hi Experts,
I have a question about the autodiscover behaviour. Let's assume we have the below infrastructure:
    SiteA :
    MBX-Server-SiteA : Member of a DAG
    CAS-Server-SiteA : outlook anywhere url = siteA.domain.com
    SiteB :
    MBX-Server-SiteB : Member of a DAG
    CAS-Server-SiteB-1 : outlook anywhere url = siteB-1.domain.com
    CAS-Server-SiteB-2: outlook anywhere url = siteB-2.domain.com
We have DB-1 and DB-2 that have copies in both MBX servers.
My question is how does exchange select the access URLs to return in the autodiscover process? I know that it depends on where the mailbox is hosted but can't find details about the process in the technet articles.
    Thanks.

There's quite a few details that are involved in the Autodiscover process. First of all - probably the most important thing is that there are 2 stages to the whole process.
In the first stage, the client is simply concerned with getting the address of a CAS server that will help it further. We'll keep things simple and assume your scenario where the client is located inside the network and is domain-joined. The details of the
    LDAP query are detailed in
this link. (At the time I was investigating this I've actually went ahead and ran the queries using the ldp.exe client against the Configuration partition of the respective AD domain - it's worth seeing the actual responses.) An interesting trick here is
the 'keywords' attribute that's stamped on those SCP entries. The reason behind it is that you don't want a client located in a site to go half across the globe in order to connect to a CAS server, when there's one available in its own site. One simple way
to get the 'keywords' attribute stamped is through the Set-ClientAccessServer cmdlet, using the -AutodiscoverSiteScope parameter. In your example, you'd probably want to run it against the CAS server in Site A and specify the name of the corresponding AD site
('SiteA') and correspondingly against the 2 CAS servers in Site B (using 'SiteB'). Once the client has got the response to his query, it will attempt to select one server that's handling the site he's in (essentially it will filter the results based on 'keywords'
-contains <client-site>). Now that we got our endpoint we can go to stage 2.
In stage 2, the client will actually use EWS in order to query the Autodiscover service itself running on our target server. There are 2 possible interfaces of accessing the Autodiscover service: POX (Plain Old XML) and SOAP. POX will be targeting the ../Autodiscover.xml
URLS, while the SOAP one will be using ../Autodiscover.svc URLs. Details about this including some hardcoded parts are
here. What happens next is detailed in point 3, section 2.1 The Autodiscover Process
here. This last link is the key to the whole process:
"It provides a list of CAS that has AutodiscoverSiteScope information set for the
Associated AD site of the Database where the client Mailbox is located."
In other words, the CAS is smart enough to return the URLs belonging to a CAS server in the AD site where the client's mailbox' database is active.
My advice is to test this on your scenario. Tests can be done here first-hand: the Outlook's tray icon Test E-Mail AutoConfiguration can be used or alternatively - if you want to see the details in the communication - SoapUI
for the SOAP access method, for POX there's an extension called 'Postman for Chrome' that can be used. I've used all these in my tests back when I was fighting conflicting results from the articles around the web about Autodiscover.
That's a long way of saying we get the AutoD URL of a CAS server closest to the workstation, which then provides the configuration to use which are the the URLs closest to the mailbox  :)
By all means look at the SOAP response, but Outlook will only use POX.  Lync does SOAP along with other 3rd party apps.
    Cheers,
    Rhoderick
