Question about Comes With Music in the UK

Ever since I heard about the service, I was quite interested in getting a Comes With Music device on contract, but looking for one is like finding a needle in a haystack.
Ideally, I would like to stay with O2, but they don't seem to offer contracts with Comes With Music, from what I can tell. I called their sales team four times to try and find out and pretty much got a different answer every time, although the one person who did seem to know what he was talking about gave a definitive "no".
Other than that, I'm finding it impossible to find deals. I know Orange do the 32GB X6, because a friend of mine has this contract (not that I've found anything about it online), and the Nokia site itself offers the 5800 CWM with T-Mobile. Like I said though, I'd rather stick with O2 if possible, because I've always had excellent signal from them.
So basically, does anyone have any information that may help me? I'm starting to think the reason CWM isn't doing well over here is because nobody really knows about it and because if you do find out about it, it's virtually impossible to find a contract.

Your only option for getting a CwM phone on O2 is to see what places like carphone warehouse and phones 4u have to offer.
O2 have refused to sell CwM phones directly in the past.
Instead of paying more for a CwM phone you may want to consider spotify premium instead. It's £10 per month and it allows you to either stream music or download for use on the phone.
The X6 32gb CwM has become quite hard to find since the cheaper 16gb model (without CwM) appeared. Originally it was exclusive to phones 4u but didn't sell well due to it's overly high price.

i really really wanna use this feature

  • 5800 XM - comes with music

I bought the nokia 5800 XM headset when it launched in India, assuming that comes with music meant the unlimited subscription, instead they just loaded a couple of hundred songs. Now that the OVI store is launched with unlimited music download support, isnt it fair that all owners of the handset get subscription instead of only new handsets (BTW, new handsets are cheaper by about 6000 Rupees!) ? Or is this world just unfair ?

This is not something we can help you with on this forum.
For complaints you need to contact nokia care via the "contact us" link near the top of the page.

  • NOKIA X6 16GB AND COME WITH MUSIC PIN

Recently I purchased a Nokia X6 16 GB phone from SLOT SYSTEMS, Lagos Nigeria but my device does not have a come with music activation PIN and the dealer told me the model does not come with such facility. Is this correct or I have been cheated. What are the options available to me to get this PIN?

Does it say come with music on the box?
If it didn't say it on the box then you have the more common (and lower priced) standard X6 sales package. It does not come with free music and the service cannot be added to it.
If it did say it then you should have got the pin and you'll need to complain to the dealer again. If they won't help you complain to nokia care (if they operate in your county) or seek legal advice. Also keep in mind that your phone may have been imported from another country so CwM may not actually be available in your country.

  • 5800 Comes with Music [PIN/Activation code] is the...

OK - bit of background first
Some months back I brought a 5800 that did not 'COME WITH MUSIC' - I've got it all set up nicely, got all the apps I wanted installed, email settings correct, games etc etc
Recently - just for fun - I entered a couple of codes on the Pepsi ringpull promotion to win a 5800 'Comes with Music' - & guess what, got an email saying I've actually won !!! (haven't got it yet though)
Now I know I can't use the PIN/Activation code from the 5800 'comes with music' phone with my 'older' 5800 (I believe the code is 'locked' to the IMEA of the phone or something like that - can any1 confirm this ??) - but what I'd like to know is how long have I got before the activation code is 'invalid'.
What I mean is that IF I don't use it then my 12months 'free download' subscription will not start - but if I leave it for - say a year - will the code become invalid & I lose out on all those lovely free downloads ??
The way I'm thinking is that I could keep the new one locked away & if/when my present phone gets too badly damaged, or the screen get's scratched, then I can 'backup everything to PC' (Nokia Suite) & reload it into the new one THEN use the activation code & get a years free download
Or would it be better to transfer from the old phone to the new phone now - use that with my free downloads & 'factory reset' my old phone & sell it on/recycle it ??

    Solved!

OK so no answer - however since I've now got the new phone, I can answer my own question
There is only 2 Months from recieving (buying) the phone before the 'Comes with Music' voucher is made invalid

    Hi,
Most of the time, the reason behind this issue is that a user has 2 services subscribed into, a Comes With Music service and a Nokia Music Store Service. If you sign up and you are being charged, that indicates that you are on the Nokia Music Store.
The best way to make sure that you are logging in to the correct service, make sure to click on the Comes With Music button and then click sign in. If it so happens that after doing so, you are still being charged, it could be that the username and password for your Comes With Music account is different.
You can ask Nokia Careline to assist you in retreiving these information. You would then receive it thru email with the correct username and the temporary password. The information you need to provide the representative for them to be able to pull up your account detail are:
    *IMEI
    *E-mail address
    *Mobile Number
    Hope this helps.

  • Comes With Music question

If I get a comes with music handset and save the tracks to my memory card, if I put that card in a different handset, will I be able to play the music?
    Thanks

Your "Comes with Music" account and the tracks will be tied to the phone's IMEI number, tracks won't play on other mobile devices. I don't know if you get permission to use the tracks on any other devices (such as a PC) or not, though I would imagine not as they are provided free to the phone.
You won't even be able to transfer your music to another phone unless you buy another "Comes with Music" phone or if your phone is replaced under warranty.

  • I have three questions about managing my music library

    Hello,
I have three questions about managing my music library, I hope you can help me with them:
    1) Is there a limit of how many entries, songs, albums, art work, can iTunes handle? I have a hunch iTunes is like a database program and am curious about its capacity. I have two 2-TB drives and am wondering what is going to happen when I fill these two drives up. Other than disk space, what are iTunes limitations?
    2) Talking about these two drives. How can I use both as a source for my iTunes library. Can I have two folders selected as the source of my library? I am not sure if I have enough disk space to hold all my music, but I do also have a 1TB almost empty drive is need be.
    3) OK now comes te real question. I am sure that I have duplicates in my library and I sure would love to clean my library up.Possiby if I do get to clean it up, I can save some disk space and that is always a good thing. Any good techniques, software, techniques to follow while ripping music to help keep my library organized. Please be as detailed as you can.
Thanks and I can't wait to hear from you.

As far as I know you're going to run out of disc space before you hit any limits. Each object in iTunes has a 64-bit key to access it. That said as your library grows it will get less responsive as bigger indexes take exponentially longer to process.

iTunes wants to manage everything inside one big folder. Some idiosyncrasies with the way it manages things if you have to move to a new drive means it is best if you can stick to that plan. If your library grows larger then you'll have to take manual control of where some or all of your content is stored. I use a variation of a script called ConsolidateByMoving which you could adapt for your needs.

When it comes to deduping I've written another script for that called DeDuper, see this thread for background.

  • Nokia N96 - "Comes With Music" - Does iiiiit?

I have a question for my N96 about the "Comes With Music" feature. I have downloaded several songs from this site through my phone and i can play them fine, the only problem is the sole reason for downloading them was to use them for message alerts and mainly ringtones but they won't allow this. After i've paid for these tracks i think it's highly unfair that I cannot use them for my own personal use as a riongtone or such like. I can understand not being able to send them to others or burn them due to the copyrights and licences but not even using them as a ringtone! It's a joke in my opinion. Can anyone help me with this? Is there a way around it or can you recommend a decent ringtone website that doesn't rip you off too much?

It's the same with DRM protected music from most sites. The licence allows you to use it for music only, not for public broadcast (i.e. a ringtone).
Any music bought from the nokia music store can be burnt to a CD. Once on a CD it can be ripped back to a PC removing the DRM. This allows you to do anything with your music.
The "comes with music" service is something completely different. This is where you get totally free music from the nokia music store for a year but it can't be burnt to a CD.
To get that service you have to buy a "come with music" model. At the moment only the 5310 and N95 8GB are available with this service and only in select countries.

  • Question about lead in music for podcasting.

Question about lead in music for podcasting.
I listen to many other podcasts and there are those which play lead in music with bit of music inside their podcast. The music are songs we all know and enjoy. I have notice that they only play short small clips of these songs and are not royalty free songs.
My Question would be is there a limit of time which you can play any song with out paying for it and use it in a podcast legally.
    Thanks Mike

Legally you cannot use copyright music without written permission or a licence from a recognized authority, no matter how short the clip. Many people do this and get away with it (and for full tracks too) and it's debatable how much notice anyone is likely to take, or whether they would be bothered about a short clip. But the legal position is, it's not legal.

  • Comes With Music - "Unable to acquire license" err...

I have a N97 with Comes With Music. Since the past week, I have been unable to download tracks from the Music Store. I log in to my CWM account as usual, but everytime i click on the download button after selecting a track, it just gives me the error message "Unable to acquire license".
Anyone else experience this problem? How do I fix this?

Can anyone help please.  I have a new nokia 5310 CWM but I can't xfer my music off my laptop onto it.  I lost all my original downloads cos my original CWM phone broke.  My subscription has expired but I am still entitled to the tracks on my laptop, plus I pay insurance on my phone, which surely means I should be able to have my old music on my new phone, at the moment I'm worse off
Provided that your new device is a Comes With Music-compatible device, you can have your account transferred to the new device, you need to contact your local Nokia Care helpline and ask for the registered device to be changed. You will need to provide your music store username, the old IMEI number and the new IMEI number.

  • Comes With Music membership extension

I have been a satisfied (most of the time) subscriber to Comes With Music membership (UK) since 26 Ocbober 1969. On 26 September 2010 I got an e-mail from "The Comes With Music team" ([email protected]) which I have pasted below.
    -------------quote
    Hi tonyarro,
Your Comes With Music membership is about to end on 26/10/2010. To continue getting millions of free tracks from Nokia Music Store, you just need to renew your membership by buying a new Comes With Music edition mobile. There's no need to wait - when you renew, your new membership period is added onto the time you've got left on your current membership. Click here to renew now.
What's more, there are exclusive offers on new Comes With Music edition mobiles, just for members. Take a look at all the latest deals here.
Remember, even if you don't renew, you keep all the music you've downloaded so far and can continue playing it on your registered Comes With Music mobile and PC. But after 26/10/2010 you'll have to pay for any new music you download. So don't miss out on all the new releases or classics from the massive Nokia Music Store catalogue - renew today!
    All the best,
    The Comes With Music team
    -------------unquote
So I "needed" to buy a new mobile. The "exclusive offers" were two choices, a 5800 at UK Pounds 249 or a N97 mini at UK Pounds 409. I already use a 5800 and the N97 costs more than I care to pay for a 'phone.
By accident, I discovered that T-mobile UK are currently selling a PAYG 5230 Navi CWM at UK Pounds 99.99. Quite a bargain, so I bought one.
Now I am going round in circles on the Nokia/Ovi websites and in Nokia Ovi Player on my PC trying to enter the activation pin. All the instructions no longer work with the current Player. The only working option is to create a new account and allow my present account to expire. I am reluctant to do this because it seems likely that I will also have to buy a new PC if I want to keep and play the music files that I have already downloaded (only 61.2GB).
In the process of going round in circles I discovered a hidden option in the Nokia Ovi Player menu - Account/Music Account/Extend. I could have bought a 12 month extension to my existing membership for only £34.99! I didn't "need" to buy a new mobile at all! No wonder the "Comes with Music team" don't have a return e-mail address if they just exist to drive sales by telling lies!
Anyway, I already have the new mobile and the CWM activation PIN. I realise that many forum members have more desparate problems than mine, but can someone on the staff please advise me how to extend my existing membership account using the PIN and new 'phone that I have already paid for?
    Tony.

Sorry, I got it slightly wrong, it's £33.99, not £34.99. The whereabouts are in my previous posting. To repeat, within Nokia Ovi Player, on the top line click on account, then music account, then on the Extend green button and the message below appears. This might only appear when your subscription is due to expire within one month or has expired less than one month ago. This is obviously from the UK music store, (GB pounds) I don't know whether it is available in other Nokia territories. I haven't tried it - I found it too late. I now have a 'phone that I didn't really want and no access to transfer my existing music collection back and forward to my old 'phone or my new 'phone. This is by following the advice of the 'Nokia music team'. New 'phone = new account = new computer.
    Extend your subscription
You can buy an extension here
    £3.50 1 months for £3.50
    £9.99 3 months for £9.99
    £17.99 6 months for £17.99
    £33.99 12 months for £33.99

  • N97 mini & comes with music

Got N97 mini on vodafone and want to get the free comes with music.  How do I do this?  How do i get a pin and register.  Can locate seeing anything in the box about this.  Tried Customer Support but did not answer.

Installed Ovi Suite on my PC, registered to Comes With Music with it, now it works even on my phone. Stupid, but works.

  • Can't register pc for comes with music.

I've got a comes with music subscription that started in August.
I recently upgraded my pc to Windows 7 and have come to register this pc with Nokia, but I keep getting error pages (no specific message given, just an error).  Do I have to wait 90 days from opening my account (which is 3+ weeks away) or is the service just down?
Disappointing and it goes to show why there hasn't been mass adoption of this DRM-ridden product.

    Hi,
you can also try to recover your content from the Music Vault My Account > Music Vault. If the 'Change registered device' option is greyed out, this means that you have changed either your PC or mobile within the specified 90 days. If the application has been installed but the application updates have not been accepted, download the latest version to be sure that it is compatible with Comes With Music.
    hope this answers your question..

  • Comes With Music - Having a Problem

Hi, I recently bought a Comes With music phone and managed to set it up fine and add music to the phone.
Yesterday i placed my memory card into another persons phone which was the same model (nokia 5310) and when i placed it back into my phone i could not get the music to play again (something about a reactivation key).
I then took all the music off my phone and tried again to put music on it and then was a transferring error each time i tried.
I then put it the person with the same model of phone as me and tried and it was sending music to that.
Now this morning i have tried with both phones and neither of then will work.
Any help for this problem would be appreciated .

Hi try to format the memory card in your 5310 (In 5310, Menu > Gallery > memory card. Select Options > Format memory card)
Then try to sync your music again from your PC with Nokia Music (make sure date and time on your PC and phone is correct first)
You cannot use the memory card in any other phone that your Comes With Music phone as the music is tied to your phone and PC
