Question about computer charging

Hello,
My 30 gb ipod is coming tomorrow and i was wondering if i will be able to charge it using my comp's usb 2.0? I have had a 3rd gen ipod and i was never able to charge it through my comp but maybe that was because it was using firewire still. Also, will 3rd gen docks work with a 5th gen?
Thanks in advance

Hello,
My 30 gb ipod is coming tomorrow and i was wondering
if i will be able to charge it using my comp's usb
2.0?
I own a 30 GB iPod video, and the answer is: you have no alternative BUT to use USB 2.0 if you use the included charging cable. This cable can only connect to the computer via the USB port, although at this point I'm not certain whether a firewire charging cable even exists for this model.

    Hello
I'm new to the Mac world - I posted my first question on the forums today!
I have reviewed the discussions site - everything seems very specific to apple products. Where, if anywhere, could I post a general question - like this one:-
I have a notion that when one connects to a server directly (Usenet newsgroups for example) one makes a deliberate 'hole' in one's firewall, be it software or simply because one is using a NAT router. Sending messages to and receiving posts from Usenet is far quicker than using email, so I'm fairly confident that this is so.
I am well aware that any URL one visits can instantly determine much information about the connecting machine. (see http://www.browserreport.com/ as an example).
Anti-malware programs can only detect known viruses and spyware - I see no reason at all why, once one has granted a direct connection facility, between a group on a private server to
one's own machine, malware could not relatively simply be injected onto one's computer.
If the malware was currently unknown, how would one ever know?
Thanks in anticipation of a helpful response

Unfortunately, not in this forum. This forum is specifically about the discussion forum itself. It is kind of like a meta-forum. Hopefully, the moderators will just move your post somewhere more appropriate. (As indeed they just did!)

Kind of and kind of not. Firewalls are greatly misunderstood. But essentially, yes, any internet connection you establish has some risk involved. However, the risk of making an outgoing connection is infinitesimally smaller than setting up a server to let hackers bang on 24x7.

    Really? I don't think so.

Not really. It depends on what you are doing. You always give away your IP address, unless you are behind a proxy. In that case, you give away the proxy's IP address. But the proxy still knows who you really are.
If the protocol in question supports such information, then it can be determined. A web browser does send some information about you, but you can easily change it and masquerade as some other browser. With other protocols, it isn't so easy to tell what kind of OS or software is being used.

    You wouldn't
Don't grant anyone direct connection to your machine.

  • Question about bill charge!

I am a little upset with the bill charge for this month. I can't accept this charge.
My plan was Family share plan 700 last month, and I added one more line.
Then, some days later, I changed my plan to Family share plan 1400 because I thought that we might need more minutes.
However, the bill of this month is $292.65!  Voice charges are $130.05, and other charges are more about $50!
I can't understand this bill. I changed my plan to upper level in order not to happen this king of things.
Please, help me. Any help and solution will be appreciated!

Lots of things COULD be happening here. Your minutes for the 1st half of the month would be prorated if you didn't request the change take were back dated. For example if you made the change on day 15(15/30 * 700 = 350 minute allowance) of your cycle and had already used 450 minutes, you would have been over for the 1st 15 days by 100 minutes and have to pay an overcharge of $45($0.45 * 100 = $45). Charge would have been greater if you were further over in minutes. Plus you would have to pay the additional charge for the 1400 minute plan for the last 15 days of your billing cycle. For the additional line, you would be charged for the month for that line plus the taxes and any data plan or data charges if you didn't have a plan. You don't say if you have a texting or data plans. Did you send/receive any texts without a plan? Did you use any data without a plan or go over in your allowance. Anything we tell you is just speculation without more information.

  • HT1476 i have a question about my charger

    Hello,
I have bought a charger in the end of Feburary. I know apple covers products up to a year, and i was wondering if i could get a new on for free?

What seems to be wrong with the charger? Have you checked cables, etc? If you believe it to be the charger, then make an appointment at the Genius Bar and have it checked. If defective, they can replace it.

  • General question about computer drives

When I get the all clear "OK to disconnect" message and then click on disconnect I get several drive posibilities.  How do I know whick to select?

Just disconnect your device directly from iTunes on computer. For manually removing from your computer go to My Computer (technically your computer). left click your device and click EJECT. it will remove it from your computer SAFELY without issues to your computer

  • Going to china,a question about re charging and volt

    hi there
i've got a zen xtra, and i'm going to china i'm from canada, am i going to need to get a voltage convertor not a plug adapter i've got one of those, the support staff told me that my player SHOULD take the voltage, any info would be great because i would really hate to plug my player in and have it explode.
    thank you

When I had been to India, I just needed the plug adapter, since the voltage ratings were 230V/50 Hz -- well within my power adapter ratings range. If the voltage rating of China lies in the range of ur adapter, then u wouldn't need a voltage converter.

  • Question about Charging ZEN MP3 Pla

Hello, I just got a brand-new ZEN 4GB MP3 player. I have a question about charging it. Is the device done charging when the battery icon blinking in the top-right displays as full, or should I be waiting for some other indication (done charging message, etc.)?
    Thanks,
    Brett

The icon should be a full bar with a little plug in the middle when it's fully charged.

  • Question about using new battery in old Powerbook

I have a pre-intel Powerbook G4, and the battery is pretty much toast (lasts about 15 minutes now). I have ordered a new battery for it, and I have this question about using it:
Am I smarter to keep the new strong battery out of the PB most days (as I usually work with it plugged in at home) and just pop it in when I know I will be out surfing on batteries? Or is it just as good living in my laptop 24/7 and only occasionally being called upon to do its job?
    Current bad Battery Information below:
    Battery Installed: Yes
    First low level warning: No
    Full Charge Capacity (mAh): 1144
    Remaining Capacity (mAh): 1115
    Amperage (mA): 0
    Voltage (mV): 12387
    Cycle Count: 281
    thanks folks, Shereen

Hi, Shereen. Every Powerbook battery wants to be used — drained and then recharged — at least every couple of weeks. If you've always used your Powerbook on AC power nearly all the time, and not followed that pattern of discharging and recharging the battery every week or two, it's possible that your use habits have shortened the lifespan and prematurely diminished the capacity of your old battery. Of course it's also possible that your battery is merely old, as a battery's capacity also diminishes with age regardless of how it's used. You didn't say how old the battery is in years, so this may or may not be an issue. I mention it only because it can be an issue.
For general information on handling a battery for the longest possible lifespan, see this article. My advice on the basis of that article and long experience reading these forums is that it would be OK to do as you propose, but I doubt that you'd derive any significant benefit from it. You would still want to be sure of putting the new battery through a charge/discharge cycle every week or two, even if you didn't have a reason to use the Powerbook away from home or your desk, because sitting unused outside the computer is just as bad for a battery as sitting unused inside it. And you should never remove the battery from your computer when it's completely or almost completely discharged and let it sit that way any longer than a day or two.

  • Short question about the nano controls

Hi. I'm probably going to buy a 4Gb nano today, but first I'd like to ask a short question about the << >> buttons on the click wheel.
I read in a forum that the << & >> buttons are actually 'skip' buttons (only used to play the previous or next song respectively), and that it's impossible to rewind or fast-forward within the track you're listening to. This is extremely important for me as I have several 2-3 hours mp3, and I need to be able to access different parts of the file quickly (eg. not having to actually wait 1 hour to listen to my favorite part). I found this to be an important feature, and I can't believe Apple hasn't thought about it.
Anyway, I've never used an iPod, that's why this question may sound plain stupid.
    Thanks for you replies!

The iPod fast charges to about 80% and then trickle charges the rest of the way to prevent damaging the battery/iPod. A full charge takes more than an hour or two though the battery indicator will show full. The best way to tell if a full charge has occurred is to unmount the iPod from the computer but keep it connected. The screen will show an animation of a battery. When the animation stops the battery is fully charged.
Also, as your battery discharges the indicator will eventually show red indicating the battery is about to run out...in an hour or two. After you've owned your iPod for a couple months you'll figure out how much time you have left when the indicator turns red - it depends on a number of factors including play volume, equalizer use, etc. In real world use I'm getting over 11 hours.
The headphones are...average. If they didn't hurt my ears I'd find them acceptable for my pop music but not so acceptable for acoustic and symphonic nor music with booming bass - because they don't boom the bass.
I encode the majority of my music at 256 AAC and I've noticed no distortion caused by the EQ. This, plus your complaint about the earphones, leads me to think perhaps you got a bum set of phones. Borrow a pair from someone else and see what happens.

  • Question about iPod

I'm new with iPod and thinking about getting one but my Question is How do u recharge it because in the package there is nothing about re charging it. Does it charge thru usb and if yes how do u charge lets say if your on vacation and u have no computer with?

    SpeedFleX

    Hi!
You can charge any iPod using your computer, buit you can also charge with an AC adaptor. Not all iPods come with the adaptor (my Nano didn't have one), but you can buy one here:

  • Have a few questions about iPad before I get one

I have a few questions about getting an ipad before I committ to get one.
I have about 24 gb of itunes purchases in my itunes library, I am thinking of getting the 64 gb ipad. However, after you purchase the 64 gb, it will not truly be 64 gb,
    1) how much actual storage space would I have on a 64 gb ipad accounting for the os? On my macbook now I have a 164 gb hard drive but only access to about 148 gb for example.
    2) Would I be able to store the 24 gb of itunes purchases in icloud? How would I do that? Would I keep needing to go into the Purchase History tab in the ITunes store and download the song when I want to listen to it? My concern with this is that the item will no longer be "available in the Itunes store" and I will lose access to my music I purchased?
I would like to ditch the laptop and just have the ipad as my computer but want to know about these questions I have first.
    3) Can ipad and iphone now be charged without needing a laptop? Per last year's June 2011 conference when Lion and ICloud were announced, it was stated in Fall 2011 with iOS5 that people could get ipads and iphones and charge them without needing a laptop for syncing?

    1. About 57 on mine
    2. Subscribe to iTunes Match at a cost of about $25 per year - 25000 song limit I think
    http://www.apple.com/icloud/features/
    3. The iPad comes with a power adapter that plugs into a wall socket and that is the recommended way to charge it anyway. - not by using a computer
    http://www.apple.com/batteries/ipad.html
You do not absolutely need a computer in order to use an iPad but you have to do more research to figure out if it will fit your needs that way.

  • Question about hibernation-

    Hi all,
I have a question about the hibernation function in MAC OS X Lion. You see, yesterday my MacBook PRO turned itself off due to low battery. I think its called hibernation, right?
Anyway, I didn’t notice the low battery warning because I was not near the computer. When I came back and turned it on it asked me for my password. I logged in as usually but after 2 sec it turned all black. After I plugged in the charger I started it again and retyped the password and logged in. The popup for low battery was still there.
Now to the question.. I’m afraid that my mac “died”, due to lack of power in the battery. Is there any way to verify that my mac made a correct hibernation after I logged in first time?
    Any1?
    /Strokan

I see, ok. It turned off first time dude to low charge in the battery. As far as I understand this correctly, it safely turned itself off.
But after it turned off, I turned it on and logged in. After just 3 sec it turned of. That for I’m kind of worried that my mac didn’t turned off "safe" and might damage something. :/
Is there any way to find out if it turned itself properly (the second time)?
    /Strokan

  • Question about calibrating battery

I have a question about step 5, +Turn off the computer or allow it to sleep for five hours or more+. First off, does it mean let the battery completely run out and turn off the computer, or are we supposed to turn it off. Second, what is the purpose of letting it wait 5 hours before turning it back on? Thanks

I have a query regarding this, my Macbook went to sleep after draining the power last night (following its first full charge). I plugged it in to recharge at 5:30 this morning and over four hours later, it still hasn't charged, or at least the light is still orange.
For optimum calibration, does it matter if I use the Macbook while recharging or should it remain off? Should it take over four hours to charge up again?
Yes, it matters I would let it charge completely until the light changes to green.
As for the length for it to charge, 4 hours is about right, could be a little longer with a complete drain. Check out [apples battery page|http://www.apple.com/batteries> for more info.
