Question about education version of cs6: once per year restriction and cross platform

I am an education use of cs6, which I currently use on my mac.  I now have a windows pc, which I would also like to use cs6 on concurrently.  My understanding is my existing license doesn't cover cross-platform use, so I would have to buy a new license.  However, education licenses also have a once per year restriction (ie. you can only buy 1 license per title per year).  So my question is, for the purpose of the once per year restriction, does the windows version count as a different title from the mac version (ie, is it once per year per title per platform)?

http://www.adobe.com/uk/special/education/students/studentteacheredition/order_fulfillment .html
RESTRICTIONS ON USE
You may purchase only one license per platform of any Adobe Student and Teacher Edition product per year. Purchases of suite editions (such as Design Premium or Master Collection) are limited to one title per platform per year. Adobe Student and Teacher Edition products may be used only on your privately owned computer and may not be resold.
Even though that's a UK link, I cannot find any other info on Adobe's website which is similar in content so I assume those rules are global.

  • Question about the CSS behavior when using layer 3 sticky and sticky table

    Hi everyone,
I have a question about the CSS behavior when using layer 3 sticky and sticky table is full.
If I configure layer 3 sticky and specify the inactivity timeout as below, how does the CSS
handle subsequent needed sticky requests ?
    advanced-balance sticky-srcip
    sticky-inact-timeout 30
    CSS document says that
    Note:
If you use the sticky-inact-timeout command to specify the inactivity timeout
period on a sticky connection, when the sticky table becomes full and none of
the entries have expired from the sticky table, the CSS rejects subsequent
    needed sticky requests.
My question is what is the next reaction by doing the CSS if the CSS is in the
    following condition:
when the sticky table becomes full and none of the entries have expired from
the sticky table, the CSS rejects subsequent needed sticky requests
Does CSS just rejects/drops subsequent needed sticky requests ?
    or
Does CSS does not stick subsequence requests to particular service but CSS forward
subsequence requests with round-robin basis ? which means if the sticky table is full,
the CSS just works round-robin load balancing fashion for subsequence requests ?
    Your information would be appreciated.
    Best regards,

    Hello,
There is a good document explaining this on Cisco web site
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/contnetw/ps789/products_tech_note09186a0080094b4b.shtml
It depends if the sticky-inact-timeout is used or not. If not, it's FIFO (the oldest entry in the sticky table is removed). If yes, the CSS will reject the next sticky request.

  • Question about Student version and CS6

Not sure if this is the right place to post this question...
So I have a question about Student&Teacher versions in CS6 - Will there be Student & Teacher version for CS6 too?
P.S Sorry if there are some grammar mistakes.
    Hope You understand!
    Thanks!

    Thanks for the reply Bob,
I was actually referring to this exact page ( CS5.5 Production Premium, Student) http://adobe.ly/H6so7G (non-flash version because links were redirecting) where it doesnt list the offer on the left.
However, after reading this http://store.adobe.com/store/en_us/popup/offer/cs55_cs6_faq.html and this http://store.adobe.com/store/en_us/popup/offer/cs55_cs6_faqchannel.html I'm assuming it must just be an error.
It doesnt mention anything about not including student editions and all offer pages I've seen have a link to the education store.

  • Several Questions Regarding Educational Versions of Software

Alright, I have several questions regarding eduational software from Adobe.  I will be attending school in the near future (now I am not enrolled in any type of school) and I notice that Adobe has huge discounts on 'educational software'.
What exactly is the difference between the 'retail' version of a program and an educational version?  Do you need some sort of student ID to activate an educational version, or proof that you're in school, or anything special like that?  I've noticed people selling unopened educational versions on eBay and from what I hear there are no differences between the software, but this makes me wonder... why the price difference?
Also, I plan on buying another Mac in the near future - probably for school.  My second questions is - with this software (educational), can I put the programs on both my Desktop and my Laptop, or will they only work registered to one person on one computer?  I've heard from people that serial numbers can only be activated so many times.
Final question.  My hard drive recently crashed, and I lost a good bit of stuff and had to re-install everything.  If this would happen again, can I re-install all of the Adobe programs to a new hard drive?  Or am I going to encounter the whole 'serial numbers can only be activated so many times' thing?
Okay.  I think that about does it.  Any input would be great.  Thanks.
    -Mike

In terms of contents, there is normally no real difference between the retail and educational/student editions. There may be some extra fonts or clipart in the retail version, but this varies from release to release and from product to product.
You must qualify to purchase an educational/student version. Such qualifications are listed on Adobe's website. Normally you must provide proof of such qualification to whoever sells such software licenses to you. You cannot buy now on the basis that you will be a student in the future. You must have the student status at the time of the purchase.
Unlike retail versions, educational/student versions of Adobe software are not transferable. Sales of such "unopened" software on eBay should be regarded with suspicion. Authorized Adobe resellers do not offer software sales on eBay. The software is either stolen, used (but repackaged), or pirated.
Most Adobe software, including the Creative Suite software, may be simultaneously activated on up to two computers owned and used by only one individual. The second computer is typically a mobile computer if the first computer is a home computer for students. For retail, typically the first computer is one's office computer and the second computer is a mobile or home computer. The computers are not to be running the software simultaneously. And no, two students can't share a single copy on two separate computers.
The software may be activated and deactivated but after 20 or so such cycles, you will need to call Adobe and explain what's going on to obtain any additional such cycles. If you are activated on two systems and a disk drive or computer blows out and you need to reinstall the software without having had the ability to deactivate on the blown system, Adobe's activation support group will normally grant you an extra activation, assuming that you don't have a record of abusing the priviledge (such as claiming your disk drive crashes once a month!).

  • Questions about Student Discounts for CS6

I know for a fact I want to get the CS6 Production Premium from B&H, but only recently did I realize that my media production class could potentially make me eligible for a student discount. I have a few questions regarding getting a student discount as I have never gotten one before.
My first question is: will I ever have to pay the rest of the full price? Or more importantly, will the student version stop working after a period of time?
My second and most important question is about installing on more than 1 PC. I'm currently on my beast of a laptop. The iMac at my school with CS6 runs smooth as butter, and it's lower spec than my laptop. Despite this, I plan on getting a monster desktop PC in the future for my productions, and I'm confused about my rights of installation with a student copy. I fully understand that I cannot install it on another persion's computer; only on my own computer. It mentions (for teacher's I assume) that you need to purchase additional licenses for installing on other computers. Does this mean that when I buy a new computer, I need to buy a new license as well? Or can I just use the one that came in the box?
Any clarification on these questions would be much appreciated. Thanks

Your license doesn't expire and you never have to pay the price difference. You can only install the suite on one type of computer, even if you have 2 activations. A PC serial won't work on Mac and vice versa. Only 2 PC installs will work or 2 Mac ones, respectively. Activations can be managed from within the apps or by giving customer support a call to reset them, if you used them up and forgot to deactivate.

  • I need to replace my keyboard about once per year.  What gives?

I purchase an Apple brand keyboard and it works fine for what I think is about one year, perhaps a bit less. Eventually, one or more keys fail. Right now I have to trigger the caps lock in order to get caps on specific letter keys; the shift key doesn't work for certain keys. I tried using compressed air and even ran one keyboard through the dishwasher. The first had no effect, the second did for a time but again the problem reoccurred. I can't believe that a one-keyboard-per-year situation is usual. Thoughts?

Unless you've been taking such advice as "type in such-and-such a command in Terminal and hit Return" to mean hitting the keys with a ball peen hammer, or regularly spilling soda on the keyboard, then a new keyboard per year is indeed excessive. Even keyboards kept in clean rooms tend to wear over a few years and start sticking; in normal home use, pet hairs and food crumbs seem to find their way under the keys and can gum things up within two years or so. Spilled soda is notoriously effective at killing keyboards; research a few sites showing how the chemicals in soda corrode the printed circuit traces on the keyboard membrane is good incentive to stop drinking soda.
Normal width keys can readily be pried up off the posts using the non-swab end of an electronics cleaning swab, which you should be able to find in any electronics store (think ear swabs on steroids); you can then use the swab end, saturated in isopropyl alcohol, to clean under the keys. Double-width keys such as the spacebar and Enter keys have a simple metal spring underneath; those require a little more care to pry up without snapping off the plastic tabs that the spring ends slip under (pry one end up, then work out the spring end, then pop the rest of the key off towards the direction of the freed end). If you pull keys off to clean underneath, try working on just a few at a time; disconnect the keyboard, of course; and use the tip provided by littleshoulders in these forums a while back to open up Keyboard Viewer first so that you can refer to it to make sure you replace the keys in the correct spots. Keys go back on by aligning the hole in the key over the post on the keyboard and pressing straight down (long/wide keys, skip the spring ends in place first).
Unless the keyboard shows real evidence of abuse, such as soda stains and hammer marks, another thing to consider is that last time I checked, the standard warranty on Apple's keyboards was one year. If your keyboard is failing after 11 months, it could be worth your time to contact AppleCare and ask for a replacement. That, ot bookmark an online discount vendor for inexpensive keyboards (try CompUSA or Small Dog Electronics).

  • Deauthorizing - Once per year rule?

    Hello,
I have run into a problem with deauthorizing my computers on my iTunes account. I work in a research lab that is constantly setting up, working on, breaking, and reformatting machines. I install iTunes on them so I can listen to my music while I work. I have paid for over $700 worth of music legally through iTunes and now I can not listen to it anymore because Apple only allows me to "deauthorize" once a year?
Why is there this rule and how can I get around it? It is 2006, I can't believe it is a huge hit on their servers to allow accounts to be deauthorized dynamically. I paid for this music. I am a responsible adult. Why can't I be trusted to deauthorize my machines?
Any insight or help on this frustrating issue would be great. I am starting to see why people are working their way over to file sharing programs like Acquisition.
    Thanks,
    Ryan

Such limitations are required by the record companies. Every legal download store carrying major label content has similar restrictions, many of them more severe.
Sorry, but if you didn't deauthorize your systems before they left your control and have already used up your one-time mass deauthorization, you may be out of luck. You can try contacting the iTunes Music Store customer support department through the form at the bottom of this web page and explaining the problem to them; perhaps they'll grant an exception this time.
For the future, keep the deauthorization requirements in mind before you let a computer out of your hands. Or stick to importing from CDs, which as of today have no authorization limitations (though that may change in the not-too-distant future).

  • Deauthorize once per year?

I reinstall Windows a lot. I upgrade, I reinstall. I get frustrated, I reinstall. You get the idea.
Apparently I've used all 5 licenses for iTunes. I've deauthorized all before, maybe a year ago... now it's telling me that I can't deauthorize until July 31. What is with that?
There's some tracks on here I need for my sister's graduation party.

You can only use the "deauthorise all" function once a year, that's how it's supposed to work. You could try contacting the iTunes Music Store Customer Service there may be something they can do from their end, it's worth a try. You can email them from any of the links on this page: iTMS Customer Service
It's worth remembering this limitation and apart from crashes which can't be planned for to deauthorise before reformatting.

  • This is a question about iTunes version 10.5

    Hello,
I am running iTunes on several Mac computers (ppc and intel) with version 10.4, as well as my iPhone/iPad.  I am being frequently prompted on the computers to upgrade from version 10.4 to 10.5.
However, I do NOT want to use iCloud to store or sync any music.  Each of my machines has their own iTunes library, and I am not interested in sharing.  So, my question is:  If I upgrade from 10.4 to 10.5, will I be required to use iCloud?  Is there a way that I can run 10.5 but NOT perform any music sharing with my other computers, iPhone or iPad?
I use Mobile Me frequently.  I have not upgraded to iCloud for any other sharing functions.
I realize that once I upgrade iTunes to 10.5 - I probably cannot go back to 10.4.  So, I need a clear answer about the above concern before I attempt any upgrade.
    Thank you,
    Dale

iCloud signup and use is completely optional. You don't even need to open an iCloud account to run iTunes 10.5 or any of your devices, nor use iCloud if you have an account. I have iTunes 10.5 and do have an iCloud account, but I don't use it for anything other than the Find My iPad service.
    Regards.
