Question about EQ settings

First off, the iPod EQ settings do not work well with the type of equipment I'm playing my iPod through. I know that in iTunes you can create a custom EQ setting.
If you do that, has Apple now made it to where the custom EQ setting will transfer into your iPod? If not, is it that hard to add code to a new iPod update that will allow you to create a custom EQ setting??
Thanks!!

Does anyone have any info to help me out? Thanks!!

  • Getting Started with CFBuilder - A Question About Project Settings

    Hello All,
I'm just getting my feet wet with CFBuilder and giving it a spin after over a decade's worth of experience with Dreamweaver and I have a question about setting up my work environment.
First of all, I have two computers that I mainly work from.  My home desktop computer, and a laptop for when I'm on the road.  I keep all of my web site project files syncronized between the two computers using Dropbox.
I've noticed that when I create a new project in CFBuilder it stores a few files in my project root like ".project" and "settings.xml".  It looks like "settings.xml" stores information about which CFBuilder web server should be used for the project.  Unfortunately this messes things up for me a bit because on my desktop a web site project url might be:  http://desktop/myProject/ and on my laptop the project url could be http://laptop/myProject.
The reason this isn't a problem in Dreamweaver is because dreamwevaer stores its configuration/preferences outside of my project folders so I can essentially define any testing server I want for both the desktop and laptop.
Is there a way to configure CFBuilder to store project settings outside of the project folder?  Or does anyone have a suggestion for someone like me who syncronizes their project files from their laptop to their desktop?
Thanks in advance for helping out a CFBuilder noob.

I would recommend using a distributed version control system (DVCS) with a hosted service, such as using Git/Mercurial and Github/BitBucket/UnFuddle.  With Git, you can use a .ignore file to specify files/folders that you want to exclude from being stored in version control (I also exclude my CFBuilder project files from my repositories).  You would then sync your local Git repositories with your service of choice, and they would be accessible from any machine.
There are many advantages of using Git and a hosted service over just Dropbox:
Each computer has a complete copy of the code repository, including all code changes over the history of your project.
You store code modifications in "commits", or small entries in the DVCS.
Commits can contain user-defined descriptions that help you identify what you did at each step of your development process
You can roll back commits if you break something in your code.
You can create "branches" of your code when you want to work on a specific feature of your application, and that branch is kept in isolation from other branches until you are ready to merge it back into the main production code branch.
You can have public or private hosted repositories on the various services, enabling you to work with a team or participate in open-source development.
There are Eclipse plugins available for CFBuilder that provide GUI tools for working with Git and hosted repositories (unless you are comfortable with using the command-line to do all your Git interactions).
I don't think you can separate the project settings from the project in CFBuilder.

  • FCP X, a question about camera settings

I live in the middle of the Pacific and need some advice as there is no one here to help me answer these kinds of questions...
My first 3 big projects were done in SD using a SONY PD 170 and FCE4.
I just bought the Panasonic HPX 170 with a 64 GB P2 card.  I use a new iMac i7 (OSX 10.7.2) with all the bells and whistles and have now gone to the new FCP X for software.  I know the following is more of a camera question more than a software question, but I thought someone in this forum might be able to help me.
We are about to shoot another full length feature film (roughly 90 minutes).  I have read through the manual and a book about the camera but I'm just not getting enough information to make the ultimate decision as to what camera settings I should use to shoot the film.
In the end I expect the film to show at a theater here on the islands for a few weeks, and then a few film festivals and then ultimately, hopefully, sell DVDs to people who do not have sophisticated plasma TV/DVD setups, so I have to consider this also when shooting the film.
So.... I would really, really, really appreciate some opinions as to how I should go about this, i.e., 24p?  30p? 720? 1080i?    If it were you, what settings on the camera would you use to shoot this film???
    Thanks so much in advance.

    1080i/60 is your best choice.
(This is assuming there's not a great deal of fast action, or slow motion in the movie. If there is, you may want to consider 720p 60).
You really need to research frame rates and the difference between interlaced and progressive footage before you commit yourself. To be honest, the difference between 720 and 1080 is so tiny, I doubt many people could tell it apart if they didn't already know which was which.

  • Question about FCP settings

I must have changed something in my settings accidentally because for some reason whenever I drag a clip into the timeline, the the audio is not linked together and I always have to highlight the tracks and link the selection. What can I do to make the audio tracks be linked together by default?
By the way, im talking specifically about audio here--not about linking audio to video, but linking two audio tracks together.

  • Question about video settings

Hey, I have music videos and tv specials on my ipod and was putting them under the correct settings recently instead of them all being listed as movies. The tv specials were fine under movies, but the music videos are another story. While they do show up on the music video listing, they also show in my music listing- its really annoying because I expect the video and all I get is a preview shot of what is in the video and i do hear the music playing. My question is this due to me changing the equalizer settings in the info on these music videos to music videos and putting the artist name on or what?

Kristina, it might be worth checking to see if you're running afoul of this problem:
Videos labeled TV Shows in iTunes don't appear on iPod
(but i'm not sure that's it, given the symptoms you're describing.)
there are some other possibilities that might be worth checking on here:

    Hi shahchin,

Furthermore the microphone is located on near the microphone because its a part of the webcam.
Regarding the picture quality of webcam you could also try reinstalling the webcam driver from Toshiba website.

  • A question about project settings..FCP 7

I am using FCP 7 and I'm a little overwhelmed with the myriad of project settings options.
I use a Canon T3i and film in full HD (1920x1080 i think).  All my footage I transcode in compressor to Apple ProRes 422 before importing to FCP projects.
I installed another computer and reinstalled FCP 7 and lost my old templates and importing some footage, I get the red line indicating unrendered footage.
Is there a standard setting that Compressor and FCP use to make it easy to just transcode, import, and edit?  I'd like all my projects to look the best possible in full HD and there's hundreds of preset project settings and I'm a little unfamiliar with all the options.
Anyone have any quick tips, pointers, or thoughts?

If you drop a clip into the timeline, it means the sequence settings don't match the clip settings.  Make a new sequence, add the clip. FCP should ask "do you want the sequence to match the clip settings?" Click YES. If you don't see that, you might need to trash your preferences...or it might be an older version that doesn't support ProRes formats (FCP 5.1 and earlier).
Another way is to choose an EASY SETUP that matches your clip settings, and then make a new sequence.
And your camera shoots 1920x1080p...not i.

  • A question about monitor settings and printing?

I have a new PC with an HD monitor, it didn't come with an HDMI cable, but a VGA one, I recently got the HDMI and I noticed that comparatively when using the VGA cable & using the default monitor settings that the darks were darker than when using the HDMI with default settings, (the colour depth looked best with the VGA) I'm using PE9 and need to make an image to have printed at the printers, I would love to use the HDMI cable, but I'm concerned that if I do (and I change the monitors default settings for contrast, hue...etc to compensate) that... it will have been edited here one way and look totally different on the print shops monitor...
... So, how can I be sure it will come back from the printers looking the same as I had edited it?
Should I give up with the HDMI cable? I also have PrE 9 for video editing, so I'm a bit confused at to what is best to do...
    Thanks.

There are no free calibration tools.  Like most things you get what you pay for.  However, the low end versions are quite good, so take a look at the Xrite Huey.
This will get your display calibrated which ensures you see the best rendering of the image on screen.  It does not guarantee good print matching since this also requires a print colour managed process and good viewing conditions.
Colour settings in Elements are mis-leading.  They apply to new documents being created in Elements or to images being opened that don't contain a colour profile.  Virtually all JPEG images from cameras will have a profile tagged in them.  So choose any setting but not the one that says 'No Colour Management'.  The best default in my opinion is 'Optimise for Screen'

  • Question about transferring settings between profiles

I'm having a problem transferring settings between profiles. The following procedure replicates the problem:
Launch Firefox with an existing profile and reconfigure the navigation toolbar so that the Stop and Reload buttons are separate.
Using Profile Manager, create a new profile; DON'T launch Firefox.
Copy file localstore.rdf from the old profile to the new profile.
Launch Firefox with the new profile and observe that the Stop and Reload buttons in the navigation toolbar are in their default, combined configuration.
Close Firefox and copy file localstore.rdf from the old profile to the new profile AGAIN.
Relaunch Firefox with the new profile and observe that the Stop and Reload buttons in the navigation toolbar are separate.
The same thing happens with bookmarks menu tweaks and file places.sqlite (I'm referring to tweaks to the menu itself, not the bookmarks).
It seems that Firefox doesn't honor some of the settings in localstore.rdf and places.sqlite the first time it is run with a new profile. Running Firefox the first time over-writes the custom settings, requiring that the files be copied a second time. Then it works as expected.
I stumbled across this while trying to pre-install Firefox v9.0.1 and my custom settings on several systems running Windows XP.
    Does anyone know a work-around?

Maybe create a default template folder and place the files in that folder.
    *C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\defaults\profile\

  • A question about bitrate settings

I'm operating under an assumption that may be false.. if i set the bitrate to 600 for video + 96 for audio.. am I actually encoding to and pushing out 696k?  It seems anytime I push more than this, I have more customers claiming to get stuttering.. and I'm sending through one of the biggest CNDs in the world. Maybe I just need a better understanding of how bitrate compares to displayed quality?  Doesn't seem to matter what size of player I'm using.. I just need a better quality of picture without a ton of stuttering!

To me it seems that your customers don't have sufficient bandwidth to play a high bitrate stream.
I am sure only some of customers might be facing this problem and not all of them. You can do multi-bitrate encoding and instruct the subscribing flash player client to dynamically switch to a lower bandwidth stream when network is not sufficient.

  • Elementary Question about default settings

Is there any way to turn of "frame blend" and the linking between audio and video by default?  It's so annoying to have to uncheck those options everytime.  Thank you so much!

Nope, no toggles for these. But:
Frame Blend has no effect if your clips do not have any speed changes applied, or if they're used in a sequence that matches their frame rate, so no need to turn it off. You can turn Frame Blend off on multiple clips, however. If they're not in use in your sequence, select them all (or just select the bin that contains them) in the Project panel, and select Clip > Video Options > Frame Blend. If the clips are in use in a sequence, lasso or otherwise select all the clips, and either right-click and deselect Frame Blend, or use Clip > Video Options > Frame Blend.
Hold down the Alt key as you select the video or audio portion of a clip in a sequence, and you'll temporarily "break" the link. If you move the selected portion of the clip, the link will be broken permanently. Otherwise, use the "Drag Video Only" and then the "Drag Audio Only" icons in the Source monitor to put both into sequence, but be unlinked.

You can just put it in airplane mode and the alarm will be the only thing that rings.

  • 2 noob questions about speaker settin

. What if I don't sync the Creative speaker settings with windows control panel speaker settings?
    2. What if I the speaker settings(both Creative and windows) don't match my speaker type? For example, I have only headphone connected to my Audigy 2 ZS but I set the speaker setting to 5. or whatever else. Will this improve my sound quality in games such as Battlefield 2? Am I?supposed to get the virtual 5. surround sound effect? Because I've heard that cmss upmixes stereo sound in?games to virtual 5. or 7. surround sound for headphones.
    Thanks.

Re: 2 noob questions about speaker settings?slightlys I have a slightly different set up.
I have 5. speakers that I use for movies and some games. For BF242 I use headphones because they give you an advantage as you can hear people creeping up behind. The virtual surround sound is really good with my XFi xtremeMusic.
First I don't think it matters what you select under Windows Control Panel as the Creative Console Launcher updates speaker settings in Windows. Second if you want virtual 3d with CMSS on headphones just select headphones and enable CMSS3D. Then click the 'headphone' button on the CMSS3D tab and you can test the sound - a helicopter pans around in 360 degrees.
Then in games set the software to output 5. - AFAIK. Battlefield seems to do this automatically but I can't speak for other games. I'm assuming the Audigy has the same CMSS3D tech that the XFi has.
