Question about gamma correction

I recently ordered prints from iPhoto that came directly off my Canon EOS Rebel XT (at max quality). The resulting photos looked very much as if they were printed at PC gamma correction rather than at Mac gamma.
Is there something else I need to set in iPhoto to get the gamma I expect?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Do you have your monitor calibrated so the 2.2 gamma? I've done that and prints now look more like the monitor presentation. I've set the monitor to the sRGB profile with the 2.2 gamma.

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. This is from JazzMC's FAQ right? (I added a link to this a day or two ago from the main FAQ post) I hadn't spotted this before and I don't agree with most of this. The wear and tear is minimal, but it's more a case of practicality that removing the battery is a pain. Also priming is not really that important with Lithium Ion, and topping up won't make any difference to the battery drain.

Look in my Nomad Primer, which is essentially a distilled version of the information from BatteryUni'versity.com. Top-up charges prolong the life of a Lithium Ion battery. These are all reference in the FAQ.

Because of the Micro's design there will always be a difference in the amount of power it can pull via USB vs. the drain when copying files to it. USB is slower to charge than the mains adapter, but it should charge fully given time (which could be twice as much as using the mains adapter).
There is a known issue with the battery draining on the Micro, but you should know this having read JazzMC's page. This is the reason the battery is so low the next day.

Question about Colour correction

Hi there
Just a quick one really, I am starting now to correct colour on a HD footage 720p and have the following options for colour correction setups in front of me: (I know I should consider other setups but have to work with what I have)
- connect an external Analog 4:3 TV via Firewire of a DV camera
- connect my DVI output to a HD TV (via HDMI)
- work on my MBP monitor
Any advice? Any other config that comes to mind.
The final output is DVD.

Won't work. That is an SD output option, and you are using HD. Different color space...plus you can't output 720p via firewire thru a DV deck. You can only output DV that way.

That is taking a computer monitor output to a TV...that is NOT a broadcast quality image. But it is better than option 1.

Won't look at ALL like what you see on TV.
None of these is ideal. But if these are the ONLY choices I opt for Option 2, DVI to HDTV. It would get you the closest. BUT, it will still look different once you make the DVD. Best to get an HD output device that is designed for this. Matrox MXO2 Mini would be PERFECT. Balance your HDTV to bars via HDMI.

Question about pitch correction

I have the same vocal sung twice on one stereo track. Cant change that. Well, I guess I can, Pan left and pan right and bounce. But I guess I'm looking for a short cut. The two vocals waver a little. The song is in the key of D. Any suggestions on pitch correction settings for this. Thanks Bill

You can make a duplicate track & copy the region to that track. Then, below the meter of each track you see that button that is two interlocking circles? Click-hold on that to bring up a menu, select left for one track and right for the other. Put the pitch corrector plug on each track for separate processing (or use Melodyne or Autotune if you have those).
You could also set the output of the track to a bus, make two aux's with that bus as the input, and do the same button under the meter on each of those.
You'll have to tweak the pitch corrector yourself because results will be highly dependent on the material.

BDT - Question about the correct approach.

We are already live with SAP CRM but there is a new requirement to add a new checkbox to the BP transaction to be held against each business partner.
This flag is to be used to flag a Sold-To Party as a certain type of customer.
If I extend BUT000 by creating a new field on an append structure is this risky as we are live with CRM.
Or is a better approach to create a new Z table e.g. BP Number and Flag as the fields and enhance the BP transaction this way?

For your current requirement, it is better if you try adding new fields to Business Partner through Easy Enhancement Work bench, (transaction eewb ).
Using the Easy Enhancement Workbench (EEW) for business partner in SAP CRM you can easily extend the data model of business partner by new fields or tables and integrate them in the business processes.

i get often and almost every connection time out at the first click on search online , at the second click i get no online profile
is it normal?

i have set cache levels 6 ,history 20
i guess are the defaul

For what it's worth, I also see a timeout on the first [ Search Online ] click, after about half a minute delay. Second click turns up results immediately. This happens each time Lens Correction is started, even without restarting Photoshop, and in both 32 and 64 bit versions. Also note that I started with one profile listed by default (though from the wrong camera) for my 40D with 28-135 zoom.
I alsow noticed that I was seeing progress bar activity in the Lens Correction dialog while I was typing this (even though Lens Correction was NOT the active window) every time I hit the 'L' key. Strange.

We, from a big SAP shop, want to set up TDMS for ERP, BI, HCM and CRM.
We have some questions about note 1003051:
1) Is this note about ERP (and HCM) only? If so, what are the notes for TDMS on BI and CRM?
2) Should we apply this note to all systems involved: sender, controller (SM7.0 in our case) and receiver?
3) We have enhp1...enhp4 in our ERP (and HCM), enhp1 on BI and perhaps enhp1 on CRM (not sure yet).
a) What is the impact of enhp on TDMS?
b) should we install TDMS before applying enhp OR the sequence does not matter?

FCP Gamma Correction

This isn't something that can really be answered, I just wanted to vent a little frustration about the way Apple handle the display gamma with FCP.
From my understanding, Apple assume (and advise) that monitors are set to 1.8 gamma when running FCP, video shown in the viewer and canvas windows is then shown darker to resemble a 2.2 gamma which is how most other computer users see it, although the actual footage remains unaffected.
That's all well and good, except that I use a 2.2 gamma already because I want to see content in the same way as the majority of computer users in all my apps, and because FCP is making the video look darker I'm no longer seeing realistic results when using it. Apples recommendation to use a gamma of 1.8 to get around this seems like madness to me, why can't the gamma correction be turned off in the FCP user preferences?
At the moment I have to export quicktime files and view them outside of FCP to see what they really look like without the fake gamma correction, and then blindly make adjustments in FCP and repeat the whole process until I get the result I'm looking for - hardly a good way of working.
Apple, please give us a check-box in the preferences to stop this forced gamma change.

If your concern is regarding the gamma calibration of your apple display then open up the OS X System Preferences > Dsiplays pane, Choose the Color tab for the appropriate monitor and press the Calibrate button ... in the first window of the Display Calibrator Assistant don't turn on Expert Mode, just press Continue, the very next screen allows you to set the target gamma, either the Mac OS standard gamma setting of 1.8, or the PC/TV standard gamma setting of 2.2 ... step through the remaining settings and save / use your new calibration profile.
As to your actual question ... go to admit that I don't know mate! But if FCP does indeed make adjustment for your display gamma settings, it will do it with reference to your displays calibration.
All that said, your gut instint is correct, you should NOT be using your apple dispaly for making critical color correction decisions. It's totaly wasting your time. You can only make reliable critical color correction decisions when using a properly calibrated reference monitor

Questions about using a PDF form online

I have a client who wants to create an online version of a PDF form that they are currently using. I am currently trying to explain to them that this would be best done as an HTML web form, but I may not win this argument. I have only used PDFs for printed forms (either hand-written or using form fields) so I am not familiar with any problems that converting the form for use online would entail.
When the 'Submit' button is pressed on the form, is there a way to redirect to another web page after the data is submitted? (i.e. does the PDF have access to it's outer 'environment'?)
Are there any security issues submitting data using the PDF form as opposed to using a standard web form? (There may be sensitive data being submitted)
I'm not sure how they plan to handle the data that is submitted, but there are several options in the submitForm parameters - I am assuming that using the HTML option would submit the data in the same format as a web form would. Am I correct here?
Can the PDF be prevented from being downloaded or printed? This form should only be used to submit data to their server, not as a printed form.
Are there any other 'gotchas' that I need to look out for? Does anyone have a recommendation for a site which contains any tutorials or guidelines for using PDF forms online?

Yes, I agree that there is less reason for it to be a PDF form (Actually, no real reason other than the original form already exists in PDF), but I am unfortunately in the position that my input in this project is not necessarily being considered (my company is following direct -and inconsistent- directions from the client, and I have no contact with the client to ask questions about what their actual needs are). I have been told to give the client the 'Tomato' that they are asking for, even though they are describing an 'Apple'.
The reason this form is not meant to be printed is that we have replaced the 'Signature' fields from the original form with checkboxes that the user must check to confirm they have 'signed' the document. If they are to print/fax/whatever the document, they should use the original form, not this one. And I am still trying to explain to them that this would be better served with an HTML web form, but I fear I am losing that battle.
I have brought up the fact that it is not 100% guaranteed that Acrobat will be available in the browser, although I can only guess that it is less than likely that anyone will not have some sort of PDF viewer available to their browser.
I will also mention that issues may arise if the file is not submitted from within the browser.

Questions about mac mini iTunes server, streaming to macbook pro, ipads, etc.

I'm thinking about getting a mac mini to work with my NAS as a iTunes server. I have a bunch of questions about this. I will have two iPhones, a few iPads, and a laptop that will be accessing the files. I have iTunes match. This is basically to keep an always on computer for hosting the music/movies. My questions are as follows . . .
#1 Are there any good, comprehensive guides to show you how to do this?
#2 Can the movies be accessed when not at home on the shared network?
#3 Can the iPads or the macbook pro download the shared movies to be stored locally?
#4 Back to #3, how will it work on my macbook pro with listening to music (I have iTunes match)? Say i go to library and I break out my macbook pro and I don't have internet. What happens if I download music while at home onto my macbook pro to listen to it when I go to the library? Will i start a new library on my macbook pro? How will that mesh with the home server when I come back.
#5 Is there a way to mirror files or folders? So something that I have on my macbook pro will also mirror on the home server.

No. You will have to format the drives in Disk Utility>Erase to Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and then install the OSX by using the original install disks.

I want to extend the monitor wirelessly to a projector. I thought about using Apple TV and Airplay. However, support for airplay is for MacBooks 2011 and newer. I thought of using a PS3 and the media server, but I think this brings on a format compatibility issue. (my library is so large I could not afford to convert all my movies to MP4.) So, how would you recommend I put my extended monitor with VLC player onto a projector?
Could I possibly connect the MBP to a Mac Mini as an extension? would this work natively? I would rather use a VGA cord than F with 3rd party app BS.

All MBPs have back lighted keyboards. Your either needs a NVRAM reset or a repair.

That is correct. Your camera was first supported by Camera Raw 7.3. Camera Raw 7.3 will not work with CS5. You need CS6 or CC.

It all depends on your preferred workflow and your budget.
Using the DNG converter is free. There is no monthly fee. You use the converter to convert all Raw files from the EOS 6D to DNGs then edit the DNGs in CS5. That's an extra step every time - every photo. Some people don't like the extra step. Others don't mind.

As normal, It will open MsWord Automatic when download a "doc" file ; also It will open a new window of Browser to view a Html file;
I check the download process on client Browser; when download
file, The content-type always return "application/octet-stream";
Also the download File will lost the postfix of the file,
So Browser don't open the File Automatic;
I think If I set the correct Content-Type , Browser can know how open the file; So I use owa_content.set_content_type procedure

I was very confused when I found that this QFE and subsequent ones posted on the 16 April 2005 relate to Pre SP2 critical updates no9t required if one has already taken earlier advice of updating to Service Pack, at the very least your narrative should make mention of this. I find it very difficult to believe that your updates are two+ years out of date.

Question about sony NFC tags

Hi every body,
I have a little question about the NT1 smart tags of sony.
I installed other app from google play to NFC tags in my phone.
I installed it, because the smart tag app of sony, don't have the action to turn on or turn off the GPS by NFC tag.
When I used with other app, and I written on the blue smart tag, I mark to became the blue smart tag to read only.
So, now I can't to write on him, and the phone is not recognazied the blue smart tag ( all other smarts tags is OK, because I didn't used them ).
When I scan the blue smart tag, the phone show a message: "unknown type tag".
Am I can cancelled it and became it back? that's mean that the phone is recognaized it and I can to write on it?
Or, is it one way, and I can't used with the blue smart tag again?

Question about Id3-tags and song managem

Hello, I am getting ready to buy a Zen Touch 20GB in a couple of weeks and I have a few questions about the management software.
(Correct me if I am wrong about something)
) Are songs organized into groups by Genre instead of just folders like on the Ipod?
2) Are Id3-tags used instead of filename for identification?
3) What parts of the tag are needed besides title and artist?
4) Which version of tags does the Zen Touch recognize: Version or Version 2?
5) If I edit my tags using an external program such as Id3-TagIT, will the tags carry over to the Creative software and to the player?

Folders are pretty much irrelevant. What the software will do is look at the *tags* in the files and then use these to build the player's library.

Using your example, in the Music Library you have essentially three categories: Album, Artist, and Genre. So under Album you would see "Vegas" (the Crystal Method's album), under Artist you would see "The Crystal Method", and under Genre you would see "Techno" (and then either the album or artist under this... I forget which it is offhand).
