Question about Golden Gate

Hello,
My objective is to learn how to install, use and configure Golden Gate on a 32bit Windows XP Platform (it's a training box).
I went to edelivery and found quite a number of possible downloads, among them are:
1. Oracle Fusion Middleware 11g Media Pack for Microsoft Windows (32-bit)
2. Oracle GoldenGate Application Adapters 11.1.1.0.0 for JMS and Flat File Media Pack
3. Oracle GoldenGate on Oracle v11.1.1.0.0 Media Pack for Microsoft Windows (32-bit)
I am not sure what I actually need to download. Is it all three, two of the three or, just the last one ?
Thank you for your help,
John.

Hi Salman,
>
i consulted the oracle support through raising an SR because there are certain golden gate components which are at metalink as patches and oracle support personnel will help you to identify what you need and provide you with the link so that you can download and install.
>
It sounds like I may be out of luck. I do not have access to Metalink.
I will download the middleware stuff and try to figure things out from there.
Thank you for your help Salman,
John.

  • Question about Quality Gate Management

    Hi Solman profis,
I have questions about the transport requests in QGM.
    My Solution Manager is 7.1.
I have a Solman project, in which I activated QGM and created a Change and created two transport requests (one workbench, one customizing) attached to it, .
I'm little bit confused by the concept.
    My questions are:
    1. Why I cannot see the transport requests that I created previously in the DEV system manually? If it's normal, for which reason is this designed like this? If it's not normal, how can I configure to see those requests?
    2. What is the difference between the Change here in QGM and the Change in ChaRM?
    3. In practice, how should the transport requests be created? By the developer in DEV systems, or by the responsibles in Solution Manager Workbench (Change Management Workbench)?
    Thanks a lot!

For the 3rd question, I think TRs should be created in Change Management Workcenter, is it the correct process?
For the other questions, can somebody give some input?

  • Golden Gate SQL Server Replication

    Hello Friends..
I need your help in getting some information about Golden Gate SQL Server replication. Could you guys please help me in finding an answers on how a highly transactional sql server does with clustering and replication ? How long does it take to get replica online to users ? Is there any good reading material about Golden gate sql replication? Please help

Documentation is always a nice place to start reading:
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/goldengate/documentation/index.html
Regarding replication, please take into account that DDL replication is only supported between oracle databases.
As for your main question, it is all based on the configuration you use. If you have much going on on the source you might add replicats to process the workload in parallel

  • Golden Gate and Streams

    Oracle 11.1.0.7:
Before I ask my simple question. Is there a place I can get detailed documentation of Golden Gate? I got some documentation but that is very high level. I am looking for some document or tutorial like the ones Oracle has on tahiti.oracle.com.
We are currently using streams and personally worked on it. I see following issues:
    1. When some errors occur in dba_apply_error it's really slow to re-execute them. Recovery is very slow
    2. Streaming the LOBs over of just 512 bytes makes the CCA very slow
    3. Manageability of scripts, configuration etc. is a headache
    4. Come accross streams bugs all the time
From what I have read about golden gate is that is super fast and better than streams. I haven't read about it so I don't have complete comparision. Could someone with similar experience provide the insight.
Also, if someone can please help me get right detailed documents would be really great.

    Hi,
Think the goldengate documentation provide adequate help to install and configure oracle goldengate process. I can put down a sample configuration for you to get started.
Installing GoldenGate and configuring a extract replicat process.
First FTP the installation zip in binary mode from the PC to the installation directory on machine where Oracle GoldenGate suppose to be installed.
Use gzip to decompress the file.
    gzip –d <file_name>.gz
    Extract the files
Use tar to extract the files. All GoldenGate files will be placed in the current subdirectory.
    tar –xvf <file_name>.tar
    Create folders
Create the required sub-directories in the installation directory by using
    Shell> cd <install location>
    Shell> ggsci
    GGSCI> create subdirs
    GGSCI> exit
    Oracle-specific installation steps
The below steps are only required when GoldenGate will be capturing data from the server. Therefore it is only needed when you are installing GoldenGatef or Oracle as your <source> environment.
You need to turn on supplemental logging at the database level. This command requires the ALTER DATABASE permissions.
    Shell> sqlplus <login>/<password>
    SQL> alter database add supplemental log data;
Now Switch to the next redo log file.
    SQL> alter system switch logfile;
    SQL> exit
Then now configure manager parameter file.
    GGSCI> EDIT PARAMS MGR
    •     Use the editor to assign a port
    --GoldenGate Manager parameter file
    PORT <port>
    example: PORT 7840
    •     To Start the Manager, issue following command
    GGSCI> START MGR
    •     To Verify that the Manager has started, issue the following command
    GGSCI> INFO MGR
    Now Configure Supplemental logging.
By default, if not supplimentory logging enabled , only the change vectors will be logged in redo logs So inorder to get the columns required for constructing the image by replicat in target we require atleast minimum supplimentory logging enabled in database level and table level logging required for proper functioning of Oracle Goldengate Software.
Using GGSCI, log in to the database on the <source> and turn on supplemental logging for the the tables configured for replication
    Shell> ggsci
    GGSCI> DBLOGIN USERID <login>
    GGSCI> ADD TRANDATA <owner/schema>.<table-name>
Do this for all the tables.
    Configure change capture
    1. Add the Extract group
Execute the following command on the <source> system to add an Extract group
GGSCI> ADD EXTRACT <extract-name>, TRANLOG, BEGIN NOW
    Verify the results:
    GGSCI> INFO EXTRACT <extract-name>
    Create the Extract parameter file
Execute the following commands on the <source> system.
    GGSCI> EDIT PARAM <extract-name>
    EXTRACT <extract-name>
    USERID <login>, PASSWORD <password>
    RMTHOST <target>, MGRPORT <port>
    RMTTRAIL ./dirdat/<trail id>
    TABLE <owner/schema>.<table-name>
    TABLE <owner/schema>.<table-name>
    for example
    extract testext
    userid ggs password ggs
    rmthost 172.25.25.177
    rmttrail ./dirdat/tr
    table scott.mytable;
    table scott.yourtable;
    Define the GoldenGate trail
Execute the following command on the <source> to add the trail that will store the changes on the <target>.
    GGSCI> ADD RMTTRAIL ./dirdat/<trail id>, EXTRACT <extract-name>
    Verify the results:
    GGSCI> INFO RMTTRAIL *
    Start the capture process
    GGSCI> START EXTRACT <extract-name>
    Configure Change Delivery or replicat
we have to do the following
    •     Set up the checkpoint table on the target system.(this is optional)
    •     Create a named group that includes the Replicat process and the checkpoint tables.
    •     Configure the Replicat group by adding parameters.
    •     Start the Replicat group.
Now we will check how to set up the checkpoint table (this is a optional settings)
Create a GLOBALS file on the target system
Execute the following commands on the <target> system.
Create and edit the GLOBALS parameter file to add the checkpoint table.
    Shell> cd <install location>
    Shell> ggsci
    GGSCI> EDIT PARAMS ./GLOBALS
    In the text editor, type:
    CHECKPOINTTABLE <owner/schema>.ggschkpt
    •     Record the checkpoint table owner and name, then save and close the file.
Please Note: You could name the table anything you want
    •     Verify that the GLOBALS file was created in the root GoldenGate directory, and remove any file extension that was added.
    Activate the GLOBALS parameters
For the GLOBALS configuration to take effect, you must exit the session in which
the changes were made. Execute the following command to exit GGSCI.
    GGSCI> EXIT
    Add a Replicat checkpoint table
On the <target> system, execute the following commands in GGSCI:
    Shell> cd <install location>
    Shell> ggsci
    GGSCI> DBLOGIN USERID <login>, PASSWORD <password>
    GGSCI> ADD CHECKPOINTTABLE
    Configure Change Delivery
    Add the Replicat group
Execute the following command on the <target> system to add a delivery group
    named <replicat-name>
    GGSCI> ADD REPLICAT <replicat-name>, EXTTRAIL ./dirdat/<trail id>
Note: Refer to your Extract set up for the correct two-character <trail id>.
    Create Replicat parameter file
Execute the following commands on the <target> system to bring up the parameter
    file in the editor.
    GGSCI> EDIT PARAM <replicat-name>
    -Type in the following parameters
    REPLICAT <replicat-name>
    USERID <login>, PASSWORD <password>
    HANDLECOLLISIONS
    ASSUMETARGETDEFS
    DISCARDFILE ./dirrpt/RORA<unique id>.DSC, PURGE
    MAP <owner/schema>.<source table-name>, TARGET <owner/schema>.<target table-name>;
    Start the Replicat process
    GGSCI> START REPLICAT <replicat-name>
    Verify the results:
    GGSCI> INFO REPLICAT <replicat-name>
The above i scrapped is a basic extract-replication process which you can scale up once you get accustomed with this beautiful product.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Antony Joseph Jethu.

  • Golden Gate topology

    Hi,
I need your help to understand topology to be used for my new golden gate configuration. I need to have active-active replication on my 11.2.0.3 databases (2 databases) in Linux environment but topology seems to much complex. Please help to answer following questions. I will be installing latest oracle golden gate and management pack available
    1. I understand that I need to install Golden Gate on both databases servers.
    2. I need to configure replication using GUI, Do I need to install Golden Gate Director to configure the replication or there is a GUI with normal Golden Gate installation which I would be installing my both nodes?
    3. Does Golden Gate director need fusion middle ware first to be installed?
    4. Does this fusion middle ware also needs to have an oracle database to be installed?
    5. Can I have this golden gate director installed on either of one database server or would I need it on a separate server.
    6. About golden gate monitor server, can i also install this monitor server on same server as golden gate director utilizing same database as golden gate director?
    Thanks

    1. I understand that I need to install Golden Gate on both databases servers.
    - Yes, this is correct, however, there is off-box processing available. (It doesn't change the licensing scheme, but it can be used to make it easier to install / implement.)  So, you can use a connect string in any of the connection parameters (like USERID, or ASMUSER) and it will connect through SQL*Net. This can be used for applying the data remotely.  In the case of Extract, you could use ALO mode to do off-box processing, or you could use Downstream Integrated Capture.
    2. I need to configure replication using GUI, Do I need to install Golden Gate Director to configure the replication or there is a GUI with normal Golden Gate installation which I would be installing my both nodes?
    - This is part of Directory, yes, which is part of the Oracle GoldenGate Management Pack.
    3. Does Golden Gate director need fusion middle ware first to be installed?
    - Now, just webcenter and a database for it's small repository.
    4. Does this fusion middle ware also needs to have an oracle database to be installed?
    - It can be Oracle, MySQL or even SQL Server.
    5. Can I have this golden gate director installed on either of one database server or would I need it on a separate server.
    - It can be on either the source or target, or separate. There is no hard requirement for the location of the repository.
    6. About golden gate monitor server, can i also install this monitor server on same server as golden gate director utilizing same database as golden gate director?
-Yes, and it can use the same database repository server as well.

  • Question about GG if Data Center Fails

Hi i came across a question from my team about, what happens to Golden Gate replication when a data center failure occurs or an automatic switch-over to VCS cluster happens?
Automatic switch-over to VCS cluster did happen in our environment once, when our NIC card was not working for our Primary server in Production VCS Config shut down the primary node and automatically switched over to failover node in VCS cluster.
I am also looking into option what will happen to on-going Extract and Pump process on source? How will i be able to syncronize the residual data from source side to target side, if such things happen?
Any comments or experience will help me.
    Thanks

All of our filesystems on primary gets failed over to failover cluster node, like how it happens with database bins and data files.
We have tested it and verified if we can start the Golden Gate after failover happens on failover node.
    Thanks

  • Oracle Data Integrator (ODI) vs Oracle Golden Gate

We are about to start a new data warehouse project, which will require a data integration product and have the following questions:
    - ODI provides near real-time data warehousing support: - What is the difference between ODI's near-realtime data warehousing features and Oracle Golden Gate's real-time data integration?
    - How does Oracle Golden Gate achieve Real-time Data Integration? (What kind of non-invasive techniquire/procedures/processes does it use to achieve Real-time Data Integration?
    - Obviously with Oracle Golden Gate being the superior Data Integration product, what is the future of ODI?
    - Is there any product convergence planned for ODI and Oracle Golden Gate by Oracle corp. in the near/far future?
    - Most importantly, what product should we use to implement the new project: ODI or Oracle Golden Gate?
    - What is the easier product to learn/implement: ODI or Oracle Golden Gate?
Others, please feel free to add to the above questions/concerns.
    Thanks for all your help.

    Hi,
I tried to install the essbase driver adapter on ODI, but I can't connect to Essbase using topology manager. Anyone know about essbase drivers for ODI. I used ODI 10.1.3.4.
    Thanks all.

  • Just installed iOS6, questions about "iMessage" and other things...

I've been a satisfied iOS4 user since I bought my iPhone4, but I was forced to install iOS6 tonight in order to download a "free" app. I found a few new icons on the screen along with about 200 percent more "Settings" I'd like to ask some questions about. I'm sure a few of these could be answered by doing a frantic and thorough search through weeks of posts but I'm a little short on time right now.
First, what exactly is iMessage? Looking at the page for it, I can't see any difference between it and regular text messages. The info page says its to avoid charges, but between my data plan and not being charged for text I don't see where theres any other benefit. The one person I text with the most recently asked me why I had not installed iMessage yet, and didn't have an answer when I asked him why I should. I guess he just wanted to see text replies in blue instead of green.
In a related bit, flipping through Settings>Messages>Send & Receive I find a "2 addresses" section, with my phone number in there as well as my email under "You can be reached by iMessage at:" and "Start new conversations from:". What good does it do iMessages to have my email address? Does the Mail app handle text as well as email addresses? That seems to be the only explanation, and also very odd to think I'd be trying to text through my Mail app.
Second, looking through the Settings>Mail I see now that I have an icloud email address as well as the mac.com address I've been desperately hanging on to for the past 10 years, and the me.com address they've been trying to force me into since those came out. (I was happy to see I could delete the me.com address from the phone. I wish I could delete it from the universe.)
I wasn't even aware there was a such thing as icloud.com addresses. When did this happen? What is it used for?
Third, under that icloud Setting I see a long list of apps with buttons labeled "Off" under it. What are those for? Under the Mac.com settings I see switches for "Mail" and "Notes", with Mail on and Notes off. The Notes app (which I haven't used since my old iPhone 3) still opens, regardless of this setting.
Fourth, I now have an item called "Facetime" under my Settings. It is off, but underneath it says "Your phone number and/or email address will be shared with people you call". I understand caller ID normally sends caller number info to the receiver, but why would someone need my email address if I call them?
Fifth, I now have a "Music" setting, at the bottom of which I see a "Home Sharing" item, which when clicked brings up my AppleID and asks me if I want to Sign Out or Cancel. What is Home Sharing? Its also at the bottom of the "Video" settings.
Sixth, now I have Twitter and Facebook settings? For what? I don't have accounts with either of those companies. So why have settings, especially since it asks me to create accounts and download apps for those companies right in the Settings?
Seventh, there is a camera icon on the unlock screen. Touching it causes the screen to bounce up about a quarter inch, almost but not quite revealing something behind it. I should probably just quit asking about this stuff already, but I'll take the bait - what is this now?
Finally, what is the Notification Center used for?
If I got a text under iOS4, it would put an alert on the Unlock screen. Scrolling through this huge list of things under the Notification settings I'm really blown away by all the apps set up to yell at me. I can see having an alert for a text message but Game Center? What the heck is that, and why is it set up to hit me with a "Badge App Icon" (whatever that is) when I get alerts from "Everyone". Similarly, the phone is set to alert me to something called a "Photostream Alert"? What is this? Why is there a Phone section for the Notification Center? So they can put a Notice on my screen to tell me the phone is ringing? Holy cow! The phone is set to send me alerts from the "Weather Widget". So if I miss the fact its raining there will be a message on my screen to let me know? Whats next - a buzzer to tell me I'm listening to music?
There's a lot more, like what would I need Passbook for when I have the actual movie tickets, gate boarding passes, coupons, etc in my hands, but we'll leave that for another time. Many thanks to all who can offer some answers to my questions above.

  • Install oracle golden gate 11.1.1.0 for oracle9i on RedHat AS3 U6 issue

    Hi expert,
I need install Oracle golden gate base on below combination:
    GG version: 11.1.1.0 (x64)
    OS version: Redhat AS3 UL6 (x64)
    Oracle version: 9.2.0.8 (x64)
I set the .bash_profile for oracle as below:
    export ORACLE_BASE=/u01/app/oracle
    export ORACLE_HOME=$ORACLE_BASE/product/9.2.0
    export GGATE=/software/ogg
    export PATH=$PATH:$ORACLE_HOME/bin:$GGATE
    export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$ORACLE_HOME/lib:$GGATE
However, after installation, when I run ggsci, it show below error message:
ggsci: error while loading shared libraries: libstdc++.so.6: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
I searched the libstdc++.so.6 in the server and found one in /lib64/ssa/libstdc++.so.6, I changed the LD_LIBRARY_PATH as:
    export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$ORACLE_HOME/lib:$GGATE:/lib64/ssa/
then this time it has below error:
ggsci: /lib64/ssa/libstdc++.so.6: version `GLIBCXX_3.4' not found (required by ggsci)
ggsci: /lib64/ssa/libstdc++.so.6: version `GLIBCXX_3.4' not found (required by /software/ogg/libxerces-c.so.28)
    my question:
    1. Is GG 11.1.1.0 supported on RHEL AS3 U6? From oracle official website, it seems only the EL 4 UL7+ or EL 5 UL3+ are supported.
    2. If it's supported, how to resolve above error?
    Many thanks for your help.

    Hi,
I think GG version: 11.1.1.0 (x64) supports only oracle 10g and 11g databases.
Try GG version: 10.4.0.19 (x64) for oracle 9.2.0.8
    Thanks.

  • Golden gate in a RAC 10.2 environment

    Hello,
The plan is to use Golden gate to migrate data from a RAC database 10.2.0.4 on HP-UX IA to a RAC database 10.2.0.4 on Linux 64-bit.
My question is if Golden gate needs to be installed on all nodes in the source database cluster (HP-UX IA) in order to access the redo files, or whether it is sufficient to install the GG software on one node only? The answer is relevant for the licensing; do all nodes in the cluster need to be licensed for GG, or only one.
    Thank you in advance

  • Data Guard Vs Golden Gate

    Hi Experts,
I am looking for High Availability and Disaster Recovery architecture for my data layer i.e. Oracle Database 11g R2
We have two physical locations and the distance between two sites is around 20 miles.
    Site 1:
We already implemented RAC setup with two node in site 1.
    Site 2:
We are going to implement standalone database. (Not RAC)
    My requirements:
    1. Both databases at Site 1 & Site 2 should be replica of each other.
    2. Both databases should be in sync always.
    3. Site 1 is active and Site 2 is stand by.
    4. Client applications on Site 1 & Site 2 should always talk to RAC database on Site1.
5.. If RAC at site 1 goes down completely, then ONLY client apps should connect to Site2 database without human intervention.
How can acheive my requirement ? I was doing some research & found two solutions. 1. Active Data Guard 2. Golden Gate.
    Questions:
    1. Do Data Guard and Golden Gate offers same features ?
    2. Which products offers solutions to all my requirements or Do I need to use both ?
    3. If Data Guard and Golden Gate are different from each other then What is the difference between them and what are the overlapping features among them ?
    Thanks

    1. Do Data Guard and Golden Gate offers same features ?No, there's simple compare here :
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/features/availability/dataguardgoldengate-096557.html
    2. Which products offers solutions to all my requirements or Do I need to use both ?Data Guard will work and you don't need anything else. I cannot speak to Golden Gate.
    3. If Data Guard and Golden Gate are different from each other then
What is the difference between them and what are the overlapping features among them ?Again this document :
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/features/availability/dataguardgoldengate-096557.html
    1. Both databases at Site 1 & Site 2 should be replica of each other.
    Data Guard can do this.
    2. Both databases should be in sync always.
    Data Guard can do this.
    3. Site 1 is active and Site 2 is stand by.
    Data Guard can do this.
    4. Client applications on Site 1 & Site 2 should always talk to RAC database on Site1.
You can set your tnsnames to handle this and more. Using DBMS_SERVICE you can create an alias
    to handle this.
    Ex.
    ernie =
    (DESCRIPTION =
        (ADDRESS_LIST =
           (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = primary.host)(PORT = 1521))
           (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = standby.host)(PORT = 1521))
           (CONNECT_DATA =
           (SERVICE_NAME = ernie)
)5. If RAC at site 1 goes down completely, then ONLY client apps should connect to Site2 database without human intervention.
You can set your tnsnames to handle this and more.

  • Create user account on TARGET Golden Gate

Can I create a independent user account on Golden Gate Target ?. This is like we do on a logical standby server.
the user account in question does not exist in the source.
If yes, what are the steps invloved if any that is not normally followed.

Let me rephrase my question :
I have an GG set up between a AIX server ( source) and Linux server ( Target). Currently it is functioning and replication is upto date. I want to create a separate user account on the TARGET. This user account does NOT exist on the SOURCE. Is this possible ?
In other words in a logical standby env, we are allowed to create addition user accoints that are not part of the primary database. Those accounts will have their own objects such as tables, views etc.
