Question about GPU voltage.

My vid card reads .95v and its running well, don't get me wrong i have no complaints. I just have questions since i come across several posts about voltage.
1. What would be a reason to increase voltage? (the answer may answer the other questions as well.)
2. Does it make games run faster?
3. Does it increase the temps?
4. Why do some gamers w/ similar GPU as mine have higher default voltage?
Thanks in advance for replies.

1 - Reason to increase voltage is when overclocking the card or if default voltage was not quite high enough to begin with and the card is not stable during stress under use in gaming and such.
2 - Just simply increasing voltage by itself will not affect game playing speed/performance.
3 - Yes it can cause temps to be somewhat higher in conjunction with OC.
4 - Default voltage can vary from one GPU to another even if the same GPU mainly depending on the clock speed of the particular card in question. Even if same speed and same model of GPU the default voltage can vary simply due to variations in the chip itself may require a different voltage setting.

  • 2 question about GPU and Lens correction ,cs5

    Hi
i have 2 questions about Gpu and lens correction in Cs5
    1)Filter->lens correction->search online
i get often and almost every connection time out at the first click on search online , at the second click i get no online profile
    is it normal?
    2) question is about Gpu
it run faster , but talking about ajustament layer
like saturation or vibrance for example
i found with the gpu on , a light slow refresh compared with gpu off
i have set cache  levels 6 ,history 20
    i guess are the defaul
well i add a saturation layer and move the saturation slide ,increase o decrease saturation
with Gpu Off , the changes are immedially , i mean i can see in real time the increase o decrease of saturation
with Gpu On it takes a few(very few) time more
    again is normal ?
don't be angry , i'm going to buy cs5 and i'm unsecure ... the price make a big role
    thanks

For what it's worth, I also see a timeout on the first [ Search Online ] click, after about half a minute delay.  Second click turns up results immediately.  This happens each time Lens Correction is started, even without restarting Photoshop, and in both 32 and 64 bit versions.  Also note that I started with one profile listed by default (though from the wrong camera) for my 40D with 28-135 zoom.
I alsow noticed that I was seeing progress bar activity in the Lens Correction dialog while I was typing this (even though Lens Correction was NOT the active window) every time I hit the 'L' key.  Strange.

  • Question about AGP voltages

I was just checking out the specs they have listed for my mobo on the MSI website.  I know what it is but I was looking for something else and stumbled on it.
Anyway, it says that it supports both AGP x4 and x8.   Then it says that the voltages for each are 0.8volts for the x8 AGP, and 1.5volts for the x4 AGP.
Now I've had this mobo for about 2 or 3 months and it has been running my new eVGA 6800 GT for like 2 months with no problems.  My question is if 0.8volts is for AGP 3.0 (x8) and 1.5volts is for x4 then why is mine running at 1.5volts??  I know I have AGP x8 enabled.  CPU-Z, SANDRA, nView propertiesall say that AGP 3.0 (8x) is enabled.  So is supposed to be running at 0.8volts and not 1.5????  Is it dangerous to run at 1.5??   When I clear the CMOS it defaults to 1.5volts.
Thanks for anyones help.  Does anyone else have a 6800 series card with 8x enabled and 1.5volts???

my card is running at 1.7 volts and it is 8X AGP it has been running like this for over a year .... as far as i know you don,t have anything to worry about. If you want to O,C. then the more juice the better- but remember ! dont go too far or your very nice expensive new graphic card will toast it self. Personaly i would not go over 1.7 Volts

  • K8N Diamond Plus- bios freeze & question about temp/voltage monitor

A weird issue I had right after I setup my mobo last night was that I could not access the "PC Health" portion of the bios.  If I tried selecting it, it would just freeze.  Is this a known issue?  I'm hoping a bios update may solve this one.  Does anyone know anything about this?

Well I was mostly just asking if this was a known issue, so I guess "no" is all the answer I need...  Now, what would be my best solution?  I am assuming bios update, is there anything else that I should consider?
But if it helps, as I said its a brand new build, so I'm running the default bios. 1.00.  My other components are:  Silverstone Zeus 560w, 2GB of G.Skill pc4000, Raptor 74gb, 7900gtx, Opteron 165.
Also, since my other thread was locked (I figured seperating two different topics would make it easier for people to respond to specific questions, I apologize,) here's my other question pasted:
"I just set up my new system with this motherboard (K8N Diamond Plus,) an Opteron 165, Scythe Mine heatsink, and a Silverstone Zeus 560w. Its these components that lead to my question-
I am getting temps of about 31C idle, 41C load.  Nice temps yes, but I'm not sure how accurate those are.  That means that it is idling at 86F in a room that was probably in the high 70's, maybe 80.  Seems a little too good to be true, but then again, I am used to Intel's furnace-like temps
Its the voltage reading that has me a bit more concerned though.  Corecenter is reading my +5v as 5.36v, and my +12v as 12.28v.  The +3.3v is reading about spot-on at 3.33v.  I'm hoping that someone else who has this motherboard can tell me this- are the readings in Corecenter for this motherboard generally accurate, and should I be concerned about this?"
Thanks for any help you can give.  No sig yet because I just registered an hour ago, I'll work on it.

  • Question about Vcore Voltage with 2400XP

Hi i have been to amd site and looked up what VCore Voltage i should run my processor at and it says 1.65v and the FSB at 133MHz
The think is the default in the bios is 1.800 and the computer works fine when bios set at "AUTO" for this.
I changed it to 1.65v and computer will get to just before the windows logo comes up and restarts.
If i put the FSB at 100Mhz the computer boots up fine.
Any Ideas on why i cannot run the computer at full speed with the recommended VCore voltage of 1.65v
    Thanks

  • Satellite X205-S9349 - Question about GPU temperature

    Hi,
I purchased an *Satellite X205-S9349* approx. 10 months ago an recently installed a temperature monitor for the nVidia 8700M GT card. While using 3d modeling applications I recorded the average temperature at *97 degrees Celsius*.
Idling the computer results in a temperature of *60 degrees*. The computer is present in an air conditioned room, who's average temperature is *19 degrees*.
Is this the normal operating temperature of the X205-S9349 when on full load?
Can this temperature damage my computer?
Is there anything I can do to reduce the temperature without voiding the warranty provided by Toshiba?
    Thanks in advance,
    Pabst
PS: I have propped the back of my computer up so that air can easily flow through the bottom.

    Hello Pabst
In my opinion there is no reason for panic. If you use original Toshiba display driver your notebook is protected and if the notebook will come up to critical temperature level it will shut down automatically to avoid hardware damage.
This with propping back side is great idea. Sometimes I do the same. The notebook can be cooled much better. And one more thing: do not believe always what those third part applications show.
    Good luck!

  • Going Abroad - Question About Voltage Converter Stuff

Hello, so I am going abroad for a few months (the Netherlands), and I have a question about voltage converter stuff. All of the voltage converters I can find say powers heat-producing appliances rated 500-1600 and converts foreign voltage of 220-240 volts to U.S. voltage 110-120. However, it says not to use on appliances under 500 watts such as computers. So first, off does anyone know how many watts an ibook g4 14" puts off. Secondly, I read that laptops have a dual adapter and that they can work on the 220-240 volts converter. Does anyone have any ideas about these issues; any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Hi Brandon,
    Welcome to the Discussions.
Your iBook's power adapter is rated for 100-240v. All you need is an adapter for the plug so it will fit in a European outlet. You can find them at travel stores or online for a few dollars.

  • Question about using new battery in old Powerbook

I have a pre-intel Powerbook G4, and the battery is pretty much toast (lasts about 15 minutes now). I have ordered a new battery for it, and I have this question about using it:
Am I smarter to keep the new strong battery out of the PB most days (as I usually work with it plugged in at home) and just pop it in when I know I will be out surfing on batteries? Or is it just as good living in my laptop 24/7 and only occasionally being called upon to do its job?
    Current bad Battery Information below:
    Battery Installed: Yes
    First low level warning: No
    Full Charge Capacity (mAh): 1144
    Remaining Capacity (mAh): 1115
    Amperage (mA): 0
    Voltage (mV): 12387
    Cycle Count: 281
    thanks folks, Shereen

Hi, Shereen. Every Powerbook battery wants to be used — drained and then recharged — at least every couple of weeks. If you've always used your Powerbook on AC power nearly all the time, and not followed that pattern of discharging and recharging the battery every week or two, it's possible that your use habits have shortened the lifespan and prematurely diminished the capacity of your old battery. Of course it's also possible that your battery is merely old, as a battery's capacity also diminishes with age regardless of how it's used. You didn't say how old the battery is in years, so this may or may not be an issue. I mention it only because it can be an issue.
For general information on handling a battery for the longest possible lifespan, see this article. My advice on the basis of that article and long experience reading these forums is that it would be OK to do as you propose, but I doubt that you'd derive any significant benefit from it. You would still want to be sure of putting the new battery through a charge/discharge cycle every week or two, even if you didn't have a reason to use the Powerbook away from home or your desk, because sitting unused outside the computer is just as bad for a battery as sitting unused inside it. And you should never remove the battery from your computer when it's completely or almost completely discharged and let it sit that way any longer than a day or two.

    Hi bangbit,
As Pnt pointed out, the VI for which you posted an image does not acquire any
data.  Since you are interested in measuring voltage, I will assume that
you have either an E Series or M Series device.  If I am wrong, please
specify what hardware you have and what driver will you use with it (E Series
devices can use either DAQmx or the Tradional DAQ drivers)?
I recommend starting with one of the shipping examples available in
LabVIEW.  In LabVIEW, go to the help menu and select Find Examples.
From there, select Hardware Input and Output and depending on whether you are
using DAQmx or Traditional DAQ, you can select the appropriate folder according
to the driver you are using.  If you are using DAQmx, you may want to play
with the DAQ Assistant VI to set up some standard tasks.
You can find the device name by opening up Measurement and Automation Explorer
(a program that installs with the device drivers).  Your device with the
device name will be listed there.
If you have general questions about how to program in LabVIEW, please refer to LabVIEW Introduction Course
    - Six Hours and Getting
    Started with NI-DAQmx: Main Page.

  • Questions about CUDA

    Hi there.
Just bought new station, with NVIDIA Quadro 4000 included, and I'm trying to get my head around this mess:)
Can you please help me with those questions:
    1) Is Quadro 4000 fully supported by CS5?
    2) Should I download some special soft and plug ins to fell the kick it should provide?
    3) What about this RENDERING confusion, it's clearly said in hundreds of videos online that Rendering should be a lot faster (h264 and such). And it isn't. Also there is a MainConcept 5.1 codec - is it for real? From creators of it:
"Main Concept 5.1 gives CUDA H.264/AVC Encoding support for NVIDIA GPU accelerated H.264/AVC encoding for selected presets"
    4) My playback isn't smooth at all:( I've got new station with 12Gb ram, RAID, i7 quadcore and Quadro 4000, edeiting standard h264 DSLR 1080p footage. I didn't even tryied famous 9 in 1 playing realtime, it's getting choppy with 2 already:/
GPU acceleration is on, everything seems to work fine. I'm confused. Moreover, my friend got exactly the same PC station only with cheap regular Geforce, and actually i don't see any difference. Am I doing something wrong or was I just tricked by Nvidia superb marketing? And it brings me to:
    5) Most important: can You please advice us how to SETUP and use PREMIERE PRO, PHOTOSHOP, and such to take most of Quadro? Web is overrun with videos about how great and 10x faster it will be when you buy it;), but totally confusing when it comes to real advices.
    Thanks a lot Todd

    > 1) Is Quadro 4000 fully supported by CS5?
    Yes.
    > 3) What about this RENDERING confusion, it's clearly said in hundreds of
videos online that Rendering should be a lot faster (h264 and such).
    And it isn't.
Rendering is the creation of images. That's faster. Encoding/compression takes those images and converts them to a specific format. That's not accelerated by CUDA in Premiere Pro CS5.
    > Also there is a MainConcept 5.1 codec - is it for real? From creators of it:
"Main Concept 5.1 gives CUDA H.264/AVC Encoding support for NVIDIA GPU accelerated H.264/AVC encoding for selected presets"
Yes, MainConcept offers some additional software that uses CUDA to accelerate encoding/compression. That's separate from what Premeire Pro CS5 offers. If you have questions about that, then you should ask MainConcept.

Have you installed the Premiere Pro CS5 (5.0.3) update? What operating system?
The CUDA acceleration only accelerates some things. If you have bottlenecks elsewhere, then those will still slow you down. For example, if you aren't using multiple fast local hard disks (one for OS and applications, one for source media, one for output files) then you'll have poor performance.

  • A simple question about DAQ data sampling

    Hi all:
Now I meet a very basic question about DAQ sampling.  I am using NI PCI-6040E DAQ card, SCXI-1001 chasis, SCXI-1102, SCXI1300 terminal block, and SCXI1160 relay module.
I am not sure , is it possible if I want to test a voltage (1 volt) on a resistor. Now I am connecting the Ch0+ to resistor+ (24 volt), and connecting Ch0- to resistor-(23 volt). So the voltage between resistor+ and resistor- should be 1volt.  Actually, It is working at the first, but after I want to test 9 channels based on this connection. The Measurement & Automation can't read data from the DAQ card. (when I test it by multimeter, I can get the voltage data on the Ch0+ and Ch0- of SCXI1300 terminal block).
That's strange, does anybody know what' s wrong about it?/
    Thanks a lot

    Hi hanwei,
According to the specifications of the PCI 6040E (page 3), the input signal and common mode voltage should never exceed 11V from ground.  I believe this is the reason you are able to measure the potential of a battery but not the 24V signal (even though the differential value is only 1V).

  • Questions about XMP

    Hello,
I have the following G.Skill Ripjaws series in my build (2 x 4GB):
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6820231314
along with an MSI z77a-g45 motherboard.
I had a couple of questions about the speed of the memory. I am very ignorant with this stuff and am new to building my own systems.  I'm assuming that my current DRAM voltage is 1.5, but I'm not entirely sure to be honest.  Is there a way for me to test what the actual voltage of the RAM is currently? If it is already running at 1600 (w/o me doing anything special in the BIOS), is it recommended that I enable XMP (I think CPU-Z is showing me different timings from what's listed on newegg)?  What exactly does enabling XMP change, other than memory timings? For instance, does it increase the base clock (effectively OCing the CPU as well)? Does it remove any power saving features?  For instance, I think I've read somewhere that enabling XMP turns off several features such as Turbo mode and things related to energy savings or sleep steps. Is this true? Any help is appreciated.  Thank you very much!

Read through these threads, they give you a lot of good info.

  • Question about TravelSound 400.

Hi, I'm new here and i have a question about TravelSound 400 which i bought several days ago. Can someone tell me why the speakers activate the bas boost or sth like that while connected to the phone and while running on batteries, when i turn it too loud the start to distort bas tones. On the other hand, when i use them with the same phone and I'm playing back same track but now it's plugged to a power adapter the don't distort and i can turn it even louder. Can someone please explain it to me ? Thank you for furthr repliyng.
If there are any mistakes, sorry I'm not native english speaker.

That's faulty logic. Once the alkalines diminish to that point, there isn't much life left in them. You're far better off using the NiMH batteries. The added benefit is that the voltage level is almost flat during most of their usage cycle, so you should have fairly consistent performance. If you have concerns about having to frequently charge batteries or not having replacements around when you need them, consider some of the low self-discharge NiMH batteries that are often sold as "pre-charged" as those batteries will hold an 80% charge for 6 months to a year depending on the brand. If you need a brand suggestion, try the Sanyo Eneloops.
    buddy101 wrote:
I use 4 Ni-MH batteries 650mAh each. All four have a voltage of 4.8 Volts, each 1.2V. So it should only distort when they are fresh after loading when the batteries have about 1,5V each. Maybe i should use them now for a while and maybe the performance will be better.

  • Questions about the T410s

    Hey guys,
I'm considering buying the T410s because my last laptop was a Dell XPS and the GPU burned down after two years. I am a college student and I use my laptops quite extensively for homework, flash games, TV and movies. And I have a couple of questions about the T410s.
    1. Due to my previous experience with my Dell XPS, I am looking for a more reliable laptop. So would I have to worry about the T410s heating up/burning down or breaking in like two years?
    2. I am not much of a gamer, but enjoy videos sometimes. Will the Intel graphics card be able to run 'not so intense' games like Starcraft 2?
    3. Also, would the 4gig of RAM be sufficient to run the Windows 7 64bit smoothly or I should choose the 32bit instead?
    Thanks!!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    1) your Dell XPS used the Nvidia GPU? That won't happen in the new T410s.
    2) the Intel 5700 MHD GPU can handle 1080p easily, but games like Starcraft 2 may only played on low to med settings.
the Nvidia GPU Optimus GPU option would allow 4 LCD support through the dock, if you ever want to connect that many LCD in the future.
    3) 4 gigs is fine for 64 bit OS.
