Question about graphics cards for Equium L40 - 10X

Hi - new to this but really hacked off so hopefully someone can help me.!
I bought a Equium L40 - 10X in August and thought it was good for what I wanted, especially after seeking advice and speaking to 'an expert' at my local pcworld.
However, I think the graphics card is not good enough to support the games I have got - Medal of Honour Warchest, Hitman Triple Pack and Call of Duty 2. They all sem to recommend a nVidia graphics card as a minimum requirement. The card in the laptop is an Intel(R) 945 Express Chipset Family (I think) and the OS is Vista Home Premium.
Problems I am experiencing include loss of graphics and stuttering during play.
Can I upgrade to an nVidia graphics card or is the one I have got sufficient but I just need to change some settings?
Haven't got a clue really, so help would be much appreciated!

Either you was not clear enough or the expert from pcworld have provided the wrong information and wrong advice.
Fact is that the Intel shared GPU was not really designed to play the newest games.
The shared graphic card is simply not powerful enough to run such games smoothly!
> Can I upgrade to an nVidia graphics card or is the one I have got sufficient but I just need to change some settings?
NO, this is not possible because the notebooks graphic cards are fixed on the board and cannot be removed.

  • Question about  Graphics Cards for Adobe and more

Hello, for technical people I'll start by listing some relevant computer info:    Asus P9x79Pro Motherboard . Nvidia Quadro 4000 2GB . Windows 7 . Adobe CS6
I have a workstation PC and have been considering ways to improve it. I'm pretty happy with both Memory and Processor, so now I'm looking at the Graphics Card. I got the Quadro specifically because it was listed on Premiere's list of Mercury Accelerated Playback cards. I have no real issues with it, but I'm wondering if I'm getting everything I can out of it. I also use Resolve often and occasionally Maya, but not often. Sometimes these other programs feel sluggish. I'd like a set up that is most optimal for Adobe PPro and AE, but is also good for Resolve. I'm less worries about Maya.
My motherboard can support 4 GPU's, but I've never had more than 1 before. I'm curious how to go about it.  What sort of advantages will I get with a second GPU, how will this help me? Since I have a Quadro, should I get another Quadro? Should I run them SLI or run them independently? I've also been looking at the GTX Series, would those be preferable? If so, how should I set up my system, run monitors off 1 and use the other as a GPU boost? I really don't know enough about multi-GPU set ups, and I can't seem to find the answers I'm looking for, so any and all help is appreciated.
    Thank you

  • Upgrade RAM for Equium L40-10X

I want to upgrade the RAM in my Equium L40-10X from 1GB to at least 2GB - I read that's the highest it can be upgraded to??
I want to know what RAM it takes though so I know what I'm looking for to buy!!
    Any help appreciated
    Thanks,
    Jake

I cant find that exact model, is it a UK model?
The other L40's are 2GB max.
You need to use RAM that has the same specs as the original RAM, which is DDR2 667MHz (PC5300) SODIMM
Buy quality brand-name RAM with similar CAS/RAS timings. Cheap RAM can corrupt your data and cause BSOD's or instability.
You can view the CAS/RAS memory timings in CPUID (google is your friend)

  • Dont have reboot disc for Equium L40-10x. Can I reboot it anyway?

At start it up it states that windows cant boot because of error it states to reboot using disc but dont have disc.
Can anyone help because Toshiba support seems to never heard of Equium L40-10x model!

    Hi
I dont think that Equium L40 was equipped with an HDD recovery option
Nevertheless, you can check the link posted by Barrie
I think the notebook was not delivered with an recovery CD because there was an option which allows you to create an own recovery disk.
I think you have ignored this option and therefore you dont have the recovery disk ready for recovery process
You could use an clean Win XP or other Windows OS in order to reinstall the OS in this unit
    Greats

  • Sattelite 1410-question about Graphic Card

I've bought a Sattelite 1410-401 and i'm having quite some troubles with my graphic card, with moving images i can see black spots flickering through the image (no problems with stills however) ( i have downloaded the latest Nvidia drivers) wich is pretty annoying.
I'm also annoyed by the fact this graphic card doesn't support Pixel shader and that it only has 16MB RAM (not shared) my question(s) is(/are): Is there a way to get rid of those pesky black pixels and is there a way to replace or upgrade my video card?

    Hello
I dont think that the black spots are a fault of a graphic card.
You say that you use the nVidia graphic driver. This is not correct. You should use the original Toshiba graphic driver or this unit. This you can find on the Toshiba website. Sometimes for watching some avi or mpeg files your need a different codex. You can find many informtions about this theme.
Furthermore you can change primary parts (memory, hdd) on you unit but its impossible to replace the graphic card.
    Bye

  • Question about graphics card and motherboard

My laptop is a dv6500 CTO. I have the geforce 8400M GS video/graphics card in my laptop. Recently I was playing a game and my computer locked up. I restarted my computer and had a message from Windows 7 saying my graphics card stopped working. I than checked my device manager and it said the card was working properly. Well now it dies if I am watching a video, playing any game it lasts for about 5 mins.
I than went to the device manager and disable my card. Before my card was disabled, I was still able to loud windows fine. This is where I have my biggest question. If I disable my card, than why is it that I can still use my computer? Does the motherboard have a small chipset for video besides the graphics card? Is this graphics card welded on the motherboard or can I replace it?
I always thought on laptops the graphics card was part of the motherboard and if it went out than my screen would go out and that would be the end of it. Is that not true? Thanks for the help.

Here are the specs for your HP Pavilion p6-2371ea Desktop Computer. According to the specs, this model shipped with Windows 8 and a 300 watt power supply. To use the GTX 650 Ti you will need to upgrade the power supply to a 500 watt or 600 watt unit. The Corsair CX500 and CX600 are known to fir most HP comsumer desktop computer cases and come highly recommended. The next thing you need to do is DISABLE "Secure Boot" and ENABLE "Legacy Support" in the BIOS. Doing these things should resolve your issue.

  • T430S questions about graphic card

as you see ,there 3 different graphic cards to choose for your laptop. Now i'm so curious about the first one—N13M NS,which I have never heard of this before.Someone told me it's similar to HD4000 or GT610`````
But why the second choice is HD4000 but the price is higher than the first, whether it is just because of the SSD?~~~
Than, i am a student in design ,i often use PS Ai and Axure. i wonder whether N13M-NS is benefit for this kind of design softwares, and how many degree it can express ,as same as Gt630?when you use it for graphic design?

I think there are 2 graphics options, integrated (Intel) and discrete (nVIDIA Optimus).  I think the first and 3rd ones have the same chip and they are described inconsistantly.  The 2nd machine listed is more expensive than the first because of the SSD and a faster CPU. The 3rd is faster than the 2nd for similar reason (CPU, more memory and bigger SSD). I don't know much about the applications you are running, but in general, integrated graphics (like the middle ones) use less power (longer battery life), run cooler, but don't do well on full-motion video (like games). If your applications are doing 2D design, I doubt you could tell the difference. If you build 3D models and go through processes like rotations, the discrete models are better. The SSD will be mostly noticable in faster startup times, although if you store a lot of big files like pictures and videos, the platter-style disks have more space.

  • Question About Graphics Card Compatibility

I have the HP p6-2101 that I use primarily for gaming. I was looking to upgrade my graphics card to the EVGA GeForce GTX Ti FTW edition, and I was just wondering how I could make sure it was compatible. Thanks!

Hi, There isn't any sure way to determine if a specific graphics card other than the HP OEM certified cards for your PC will work. The reality is that there is no guarantee that any particular graphics card will work in any particular PC even if the graphics card works in other PCs or even the same or similar model PCs. Know what the return policy is before you buy. Most of the newer graphics cards require that you PC runs the HP version 8 BIOS. There is a version 7.23 BIOS update available for your PC but I don't think it will help if you want to use the NVIDIA GTX 7xx ot 9xx graphics cards. ZOTAC sells some GTX series graphics cards that are compatible back to PCI-E 1.1 and these card may work with when match with the appropriate power supply. Contact Zotac for a recommendation and know what the return policy is before you buy.

  • Advice about graphics cards for mac pro purchase

i am considering purchasing a mac pro. i want to keep the cost down, but at the same time i am interested in longevity of the computer. by longevity i mean that as the years move on, the computer does not become "apparently" slow as quickly.
the mac pro with 2 penryn quad-core processors seems very much the type of computer that will accomplish this.
so i am now looking at the graphics card choice. i am not into gaming and (at the moment) i don't do a lot of 3D intensive stuff. i do some 3D stuff when visualizing the computer simulations of mathematical equations (e.g. in matlab).
however, with the longevity thing, i assume over the next 4-6 years applications will become more graphically intensive, webpages will become more graphically intensive, etc ...
is this reason enough to upgrade from the standard ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT to
NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT or will i not notice this, even over the course of 5+
if i were to get the 8800 GT what differences might i notice?

    rob_ART wrote:
Faster cards may become available in the future but they will cost you much more than the GeForce 8800 GT.
Are you planning to run dual displays? I've heard there's some problems with the #2 DVI port.
re: dual displays ... at the moment a single 23" display. however, at some point in the not so immediate future i will either upgrade to a singe 30" or dual 23" displays. thanks for the tip on the dvi port
re: geforce 8800 ... i am considering some practical logistical and financial issues right now. i was also informed that this video card is on back order for a few weeks. also it can't be installed in an onsite apple store (no sales tax).

  • A question about video cards for g4 agp system

Hello. I have a PowerMac G4 400 mhz agp system running mac os 10.4.8. I would like to be able to use quartz extreme on it. I know that all I need to accomplish this is an agp Radeon class graphics card or better. But before i purchase one, I was wondering if this system had the capacity to do Core Image (with the correct video card). If it could, what is the exact video card that I would need to do so? ATI has made so many different ones that it get confusing, especially when you factor in that certain cards require either a 2x/4x or 8x agp slot? I believe my system just has the 2x version. Any help is greatly appriceated.

    Hi
The only graphics cards readily available that have 256MB VRAM are the Radeon 9600 Pro PC and Mac edition and the Radeon 9800 G4 & G5 edition.
If you're not a gamer and don't need the power of the 9800, the 9600 would be one option but it can be problematical in certain Quicksilvers:
    http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/feedback/9600mac_pcedition.html
I've got one and haven't had any problems, although it's difficult to recommend when it's not guaranteed to work. That just leaves the 9800.
To work in a Mac the card needs a Mac version of the ROM and the drivers. It's possible to buy a PC card where the Mac drivers are already available and update or flash the ROM with the Mac version. You need to know what you're doing though, I think the Mac ROM is larger and won't necessarily fit in the standard ROM chip on some PC cards (unless you replace the chip), and the card may not function fully either in terms of the ports or the resolutions.

  • Question about AirPort card for older system

I have an iMac G5 with OSX 10.3.9. I need to get an AirPort card to install in it, and the local Apple store tech says they don't carry it for that system, and I need to go online and order it using my serial number. The only card I can seem to find on the Apple site is the newer AirPort card that is not compatible. Can anyone guide me in the right direction of how to order what I need on the Apple site by using my serial number to ensure I get the right card?

Some if not most of the information you seek could
    be available through this service self-help page;
but the parts may also be harder to get The main
phone number to the Apple Store (not a local) is
also a place to contact to inquire about getting a
replacement or original part for a Macintosh.
Your computer likely uses the now discontinued
but probably available AirPort Extreme card aka:
    "Optional AirPort Extreme card (802.11b/g)"
{Some iMac G5s were different, and those had
    a "built-in" AirPort Extreme Card (802.11b/g;
so if these failed, they required someone to go
into the computer and remove a part off the
    main logic board and replace it with another.}
When a part proves to be no longer available
through the Apple Store directly or online,
you may be directed to look elsewhere to see
if one exists in the resale market.
In the meantime, you should be able to put
a serial number in a box as directed in the
following page's linked 'online assistant' to
get to the area where parts you could install
may be listed. Some of the computers are
not readily user-updated and so a part in
one model may not be user installed where
in another model it was user installable.
    Use this link:
    http://www.apple.com/support/serviceassistant/overview.html
    To go here:
    https://selfsolve.apple.com/GetWarranty.do
{If this system won't let you go into replacement parts
and a way to order them (such as RAM upgrade, w-fi
Airport card, etc) you may have to call the Store's # as
    shown in the online store's web page & ask about it.}
Hopefully the part is a user installed item; I no
    longer have the iMac G5 Service Manual in PDF;
or I could look it up, with part number, in detail.
For more definition in questions regarding your Mac
you could cite more exact model information; as it
appears on your computer's build data outside on
the case and in the System Profiler. Also, a free
database you can download for offline use is
    available from http://mactracker.ca ...

  • Question about graphics card driver updates on Satellite U300 Series

I am trying to install Spyder2 Pro onto Vista home premium 32bit, however I am having problems with it loading onto CS2. I contacted Colorvision and they suggested if the Video Card was more than 6 months old I would need the latest update. I have searched the toshiba/intel websites and have been unable to update this, when I download them and try to install it says I have the most up to date version, this being 7.14.10.1263.
    Can anyone help!

Thanks for the reply Dennis. I downloaded the driver and when I tried to open it I got "+an error saying the driver being installed is not validated for this computer. Please obtain the appropriate driver from the computer's manufacturer+" When I try to update it in device manager it tells me that I have the most up to date driver installed.
I'm not really surprised, as I have had nothing but trouble with Vista since I got the new laptop three months ago. Just wish now I hadn't got rid of my old computer, which was run by xp. I do a lot of pictures and the video card on vista will not allow me to set the contrast to the max setting, which I need to be able to do. You then set it using adobe gamma. However vista or the intel graphics will not allow this. I then got the spyder2 pro, which didnt work. Colorvision said if the driver was more than six months, I needed to update it.
This, it seems is not as easy as you would think. Very frustrating actually. Wish I had of put the extra few hundred towards an Apple mac!
    Thanks for the help

I recommend you install nothing older than the Apple-firware 5770, about US$250.
RE: Mac Pro Replacement Graphics cards
    1) Apple brand cards,
    2) "sold in the Apple store" cards, and
    3) "Mac Edition" cards ...
... show all the screens, including Boot up screens, Safe Mode, Installer, Recovery, debug screens, and Alt/Option boot screens. At this writing, these choices include:
    1) Apple brand cards:
    • Apple-firmware 5770, about US$250** works near full speed in every model Mac Pro, Drivers in 10.6.5
    • Apple-firmware 5870, about US$450
    2) "sold in the Apple store" cards
    • NVIDIA Quadro 4000, about US$1200
    • NVIDIA Quadro 5000, about US$2500
    3) "Mac Edition" cards -- REQUIRE 10.8.3 or later:
    • SAPPHIRE HD 7950 3GB GDDR5 MAC Edition, about US$480** Vendor recommends Mac Pro 4,1
    • EVGA GTX 680 Mac Edition, about US$600
The cards above require no more than the provided two 6-pin aux power connectors provided in the Mac Pro through 2012 model. Aux cables may not be provided for third-party cards, but are readily available.
If you are Meet ALL of these:
    • running 10.8.3 or later AND
    • don't care about "no boot screens" etc AND
    • can re-wire or otherwise "work out" the power cabling, THEN:
You can use many more cards, even most "PC-only cards"
