Question about heat readings on iMac

Hello everyone!
Is these readings normal? These readings are under normal use (surfing and watching some YouTube)
I have noticed that LCD Proximity and Optical Drive Proximity get particularly hot. Why?
I Hope that someone can come up with a reason why, and answer if this is normal.
Thank you!

Watching YouTube videos is why they are so hot. However, the fans should be running faster to cool the machine, so I would take it in for service because something doesn't seem right. In the meantime try Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC).

  • A few questions about my late 2006 iMac

    Hello,
    I own a late 2006 iMac specs here: http://support.apple.com/kb/SP28
Our house basement got flooded by our neighbours 50,000 litre pool splitting open.
My iMac was on a desk along with the cords and did not touch water. It was however in a room that was flooding for maybe 6 hours. It was exposed to the humidity from the water on the floor and also big fans were going during that time (dehumidifier and fans). I grabbed it maybe 5 or 6 hours this happened and brought it upstairs in our living room. The keyboard doesn't sit flat and my comptuer in general seemed slow and apps weren't working right.
Could it be damaged because of all of this? I'd like to open the back panel and pop off the keys on the keyboard. How can I find information about how to pull the back off and pop off the keys?
Our insurance provides full coverage so may just tell them to check out my iMac but then I'll be without it for awhile.

I ended up getting a new Mac.

  • M2tv -- questions about watching tv on iMac

Firstly, I'm sorry if this is the wrong forum. I looked and this seems closest to my question.
I'm an American in Japan and reading Japanese is still a bit difficult. I wanted to watch TV with my iMac and so this past weekend I bought m2TV which is an external USB device that plugs into my TV antenna, no antenna, no TV. Reception is pretty good but sometimes I can't get all channels and I'm thinking there must be another way.
I was wondering if I bought a tuner in/from America, if that tuner would work in Japan and what tuners people recommend.
    Cheers,

the iMac doesn't have an HDMI port per se, but there are MDP-to-HDMI adapters.
what might be the problem with that digirecorder is the lack of a Mac driver, though.
instead, check out [Elgato's|http://www.elgato.com/elgato/int/mainmenu/products/tuner.en.html] hard and software.

  • A question about gaming on the imac

So i just got a 17" imac (2.0ghz) version with the 1gb memory and radeon x1600, and i was wondering, if it will be able to work good with unreal tournament 2004, and also if it would possably work with Counter strike source if i downloaded boot camp. Thanks : ).
      Mac OS X (10.4.8)

The Universal patch is for the full-game, not demo.
Here's some infor about the patch and link for the patch BTW...

I do not own the game, so I cannot comment on the widescreen thing, my games play fine on my 24" iMac. Are you looking to have the black bars on the top and bottom? I guess it would depend on the resolution you set in the settings.
If this helps, please award points accordingly. Thank you.

  • TS1367 I am asking this question about my 27 inch iMac Desktop Computer. I normally use my Laptop and very seldom use the desktop but was going to download the new software earlier today. I could not wake it from sleep.

The other evening we had a storm and lightening hit a house a few doors from me. It jolted my chair but that seemed to be all here. I use my laptop most of the time but since there was a software download I went to my 27 inch iMac and could not wake it from sleep. The light on the keyboard is not lit either. I have this connected to a Battery Backup Power so do not know what has happened or what to do. When I push the power button to try to turn it on nothing happens. There is no shound, no video, nothing; however the disk drive that does my time maching backup has a light on it and the other things that are plugged into the battery power pack also have lights on them. The printer is on and says it is ready to print. Since I cannot boot it up I do not know what to do to even try to get it started. I did not know what would happen if I put the first start up disk in  the external disk drive and try that or not. The internal drive is broken. I do not have any repair shops or apple stores around me at all less than 150 miles away and I am disabled with 24/7 help and oxygen so can not take it in. Are there any suggestions that anyone can give me. I have not been able to find any way to reset the backup battery pack either. It is a Tripp-Lite. Any help anyone can give will be greatly appreciated. Thanking you in advance for your time and trouble.

  • Question about using my 24" Imac as a tv (slingbox, eyetv etc..)

Hi guys I want to get rid of my tube tv in my room and use my imac as my tv/computer....I have a digital cable box (comcast) which only has component outputs (blue, red, gree, white, red) which is a no-go for El Gato products i think...Which is the best solution for me. Also is it possible to get HD on my imac without using an antenna since i can get it through my cable box for like 5 bucks a month.....Also if i get slingbox do I need a tv for it to work or can i just simply hook it up to my cable box and not the tv also since I want to get rid of the tv and just use the imac....Thanks guys

...which only has component outputs (blue, red, gree, white, red) which is a no-go for El Gato products i think...
Not so, both the EyeTV Hybrid and EyeTV 250 Plus can handle component video.
Also is it possible to get HD on my imac without using an antenna since i can get it through my cable box for like 5 bucks a month...
Why wouldn't you use the same connection from your cable box as above?
Also if i get slingbox do I need a tv for it to work...
    No

  • Question about heat & system fan ? with Corecenter software?

    hello guys,
i am having some strange experience well i just happened to clean my CPU well just external clean with cloth well then when i started i heard sound of some sort it turned out to be a plastic piece with the fan anyway i just did not do anything else well recently my CPU is very running cool i mean does System temeperature goes high will my CPU fan go high too i mean i dont' get a reading for my System fan speed in corecenter why ? can i do something about it please tell me. ? should i check the inside of my CPU well i am no expert but i am still ameteure well what do you say

I don't think CoreCenter uses the system temperature to control fan speed.
Is your cpu fan still working? When you say a plastic piece is broken, do you mean a fan blade? If so you should replace the fan.

  • Question about Mountain Lion on iMac 27

I recentely installed Mountain Lion on my iMac, and after the computer restarted and everything.  When I click on an icon, it doesn't go into the program or the apple menu too.  What can I do to solve this problem?

That is checked (of course); however, I just actually tried the wireless mouse that came with the iMac and that works using a click - it does not work with my wired third party (Macally) USB mouse which is what I use (I do not care for the "un"ergonomically shaped Apple rodent). And it used to work with my Macally mouse, so something was definitely changed with the Lion release. I actually sent in a bug report for "loss of functionality" - didn't get me anywhere, LOL.

  • Question about Memory Upgrade for iMac G3/350 - Slot Loading

I was thinking of upgrading my memory and found this on eBay
    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=350070149602
The auction says that it won't work in an apple computer but it looks like it should. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    James S.

I agree with Richard; if the seller says it won't work in a Mac, why bother? It's likely to be hi-density, which either won;t work or will show up in a Mac as only half its true size.
I've been hanging around these forums for nearly seven years and have seen a lot of tears shed over alleged Mac RAM bought on eBay. Your mileage may vary, but I get RAM for our 13 Macs for online venders who are Mac-savvy. They all work.

  • There is a lot of talk aout there about using a 27" iMac as a display with the mini displayport to displayport cable. It is so exciting! I am trying to connect a PC laptop with a VGA port to a 27" Dell Latitude D620?

In 2010 there was a question about using a 27" iMac as a display with a Dell laptop.
I am trying to connect a work Dell laptop Running Windows XP via a VGA cable to my personal iMac 27"
    running iMac 27", Mac OS X (10.6)
Has anyone tried this or know if imac 27" Mini port with a VGA adapter can work?
I apologize if I missed this discussion already
    Kind Regards
    Gilly

    Hi Gilly,
I have no proof, but I think it will not work with an adapter, only Mini Display Port or Thunderbolt.

  • Question about using iMac 2011 as a monitor

    hi ,, i have imac 2011 21'5
can i use as a monitor to play xbox 360 on it using mini displayport to hdmi cable ??
if no then is there way else i can play xbox on my imac screen

    Frank:
Thanks so much for responding! One question about your post. When you say that the Mac Mini cannot boot in OS 9, does that mean that if I wanted it to hold Filemaker Pro 4 files (which runs on OS 9), that it cannot do this? We would not be running Filemaker on the Mini, just storing the files. We would run Filemaker off of our desktop computers. Sorry, I don't know a ton about computers, so sometimes I need clarification about the terms that people use.-Rob

  • Questions about TDM mode on an iMac

    Hi!
I'm thinking about buying 2009-2010 27" iMac, it should replace my home server, display and audio system.
Primarily, I will use it in TDM mode, and have some questions about it.
Firstly, what about sound? iMac receives it over Mini DP, right? And if I'll connect HDMI device to iMac (PS3, looking forward to Xbox One, and MacBook Air over hdmi adapter), sound will be played over desktop's speakers, as it should?
Second, and most interesting part: if connection scheme is MacBook Air->Mini DP to HDMI adapter->HDMI cable->HDMI splitter->HDMI to Mini DP cable->iMac in TDM, everything will work fine?
Also interested about cables. For example, this cable http://dx.com/p/cy-dp-021-mini-displayport-to-hdmi-audio-extender-cable-white-1- 8m-177527 supports up to 1920x1200, but basically, both DP 1.2 and HDMI 1.3b supports 2560x1600. Should I look for another cable or this one will support 2560x1440 resolution?)

Beta software is always a risk. Some beta releases are close to finished status and quite polished and bug-free, while others have significant and often crippling bugs. Not that software in official release may not also have problems, but the entire point of beta releases is to identify bugs prior to an official release, so bugs are much more likely. Sometimes you won't encounter any problems, but other beta software may take your machine down completely; it all depends on what the software is intended to do, how skilled the programmers are, and where in the beta cycle the software may be. A "public preview" release from a major developer such as Microsoft, Apple, or Mozilla is less likely to have major problems, but it's no guarantee.
It's always wise to be very cautious about using any beta software, and to take extra precautions, particularly making backups much more often and preferably not using your main computer, when running any beta software. I would recommend never, repeat never, running beta software on any computer on which you depend on a daily basis for work or critical schoolwork. If you must, make a clone of your entire hard drive to another volume before installing any beta, so you can recover your system in case of major problems.

  • A few questions about using PS3 with 27" iMac display...

Hey people, I had a few questions about how I could possibly get my ps3 connected to the iMac's 27" screen. First of all, could you guys list some adapters that would be able to convert the HDMI to Mini displayport? That would be great. The only one I know of is that Dr. Bott Digital Video link.
Okay secondly, I was wondering if I do get the the ps3 connected with the iMac's display with an adapter to convert HDMI to mini DisplayPort, would it be in HD? Would I be able to play ps3 games or watch blu-ray movies in 1080p HD format?
    Thanks!

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
This has been asked a number of times here since the intro of the 27" iMac. The answer is very expensive US$149 or more converters and sometimes even more expensive to maintain the resolutions that you seek.

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In Library Manager it's the FIle -> Rebuild command)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
    Regards
    TD
