Question about how Cisco Unity Connections v 9.1.1 uses transfer rules

I'm trying to understand how Unity hanldes calls using the transfer rules and greetings. I've got a subscriber whose standard greeting is set to send them to a call handler. Since the call is being transferred from the subscriber would it use the transfer rules vs the greetings? I've looked through the documentation but can't find a good explanation for how the system moves calls around. Thanks in advance.
Billy

Billy,
It could use either one, transfer rule is matched first and can either point to greeting or another extension, if it points to greeting then you can simply play blank greeting and transfer to the call handler. Start by looking at the transfer rule and if it is set to transfer to greeting, look at greeting configuration. Notice there is alternate transfer rule and greeting as well, so make sure those are not enabled as they would take precedence.

Chris

Hi all, I dont have subscriber in my test environment but want know what happens with this two scenarios.
Can we add a mailbox in sub when pub is up?
Can you add a mailboxin sub  when pub is down?
I am sure that when pub is down we cannot add a mailbox, but want to make sure
    Thanks,

    Hi Uday,
    The Cluster in Unity Connection acts differently than a CUCM cluster, so the answers to your question are;
    Yes & Yes
How a Cluster Works in Cisco Unity Connection
    Revised May 2009
The Cisco Unity Connection cluster feature provides high availability  voice messaging through two Connection servers that are configured in a  cluster. Under normal conditions, the Connection servers are both active  so that:
•The cluster can be assigned a DNS name that is shared by the Connection servers.
•Clients  such as email applications and the web tools available through the  Cisco Personal Communications Assistant (PCA) can connect to either  Connection server.
•Phone systems can send calls to either Connection server.
•Incoming  phone traffic load is balanced between the Connection servers by the  phone system, PIMG/TIMG units, or other gateways that are required for  the phone system integration.
Each server in the cluster is responsible for handling a share of the  incoming calls for the cluster (answering phone calls and taking  messages). The server with Primary status is responsible for the  following functions:
•Homing and publishing the database and message store, which are both replicated to the other server.
•Sending message notifications and MWI requests (the Connection Notifier service is activated).
•Sending SMTP notifications and VPIM messages (the Connection Message Transfer Agent service is activated).
When one of the servers stops functioning (for example, when it is shut  down for maintenance), the remaining server assumes responsibility for  handling all incoming calls for the cluster. The remaining server also  assumes responsibility for the database and message store, which are  both replicated to the other server when the connection and its  functionality are restored.
When the server that stopped functioning is able to resume its normal  functions and is activated, it resumes responsibility for handling its  share of incoming calls for the cluster.
To monitor the status of the servers, the Connection Server Role Manager  service runs in Cisco Unity Connection Serviceability on both servers.  This service performs the following functions:
•Starts the applicable services on each server, depending on server status.
•Determines  whether critical processes (such as voice message processing, database  replication, and message store replication) are functioning normally.
•Initiates  changes to server status when the server with Primary status is not  functioning or when critical services are not running.
Note the following limitations when the publisher server is not functioning:
•If  the Connection cluster is integrated with an LDAP directory, directory  synchronization does not occur, although authentication continues to  work when only the subscriber server is functioning. When the publisher  server is functioning again, directory synchronization resumes.
•If  a Digital Network includes the Connection cluster, directory updates do  not occur, although messages continue to be sent to and from the  cluster when only the subscriber server is functioning. When the  publisher server is functioning again, directory updates resume.
    About the Publisher Server
The first Cisco Unity Connection server that is configured in the  cluster is the publisher server. The Cluster Management page in  Cisco Unity Connection Serviceability identifies the publisher server.
The publisher server assumes responsibility for publishing the database  and message store when the cluster is functioning normally.
When the publisher server does not have Primary status (for example,  when the administrator manually changes the status of the other server  to Primary, which automatically changes the status of the publisher  server to Secondary), the other server assumes responsibility for  publishing the database and message store.
The publisher server cannot be removed from the cluster.

Hello! I have a huge question about how can I get connected my iphone 4 with my car Is there any opption on find my car application? I have a Volvo xc60 and I want to be connected all the time with my iphone. Can I do that?

Hello. I can say that you have a quite strange „huge question”… It’s non-sense to stay connected with your car which is hundreds miles away. Unless…
I have a theory. You don’t want to controll your car, you want to controll somebody who is driving the car. Volvo XC 60 is a nice family car, usually used by married men between age of 35-45, probably with small children, so it’s very unlikely that you want to controll your teanage kid, mainly because probably even if you would give him/her to drive the car in the neighborhoud, I don’t think that he/she would be „several hundred miles away”…  If your child is not young teneage anymore, and he/she has his/her own life, but you want to control him/her, that is sick… So I am convinced that you want to controll your husband who probably travelling often! Am I wright?
Isnt’t nice at all! Would you like if you would be monitorized in such way? I bet you don’t!
Anyway, iPhone is smart, you can use for many things, but come on, you really were thinking that there is such kind of application???
What could you do it's to put in the car a GPS survelling system, however I don't think that you could do it without your husband knowledge, otherwise he won't be able to start the engine...

  • Cisco Unity Connection 8.0 / access to the user configuration is very slow

    Hello!!
The access to the user configuration is very slow. When you click on an user it need about 2-3 minutes until the configuration sidewill be loaded.
    What could be the reason?
How is it possible to load the user configuration a little bit faster?
A restart of the Cisco Unity Connection was done.
The user will be imported from the CallManager.

  • Cisco Unity Connection 8.5.1 SU3 to 8.5.1 SU6 & Upgrade to 9.1.2

    Two questions !
Firstly  - I am upgrading to the latest patch level as I want to upgrade the systems to 9.1.X
I am installing UCSInstall_UCOS_8.5.1.16900-6.sgn.iso onto the inactive partition on the publisher then onto the inactive partition on the subscriber.
Then I plan to switch versions out of hours.
Question - will messages / data that has happened between the installation on the inactive partition and the switch version be preserved ??
So if I install onto the inactive partition at 1pm, then an important message is left at 2pm and I switch version at 3pm, does the iimportant message exist on the active partition at the end ??
    Second question -
    I have UCCX-8.5.1 SU4 (HA), CUC 8.5.1 SU6 (HA) and CUCM 8.5.1 SU6 (1 pub, 2 sub) - so 7 VM's in total.
If I want to migrate to -
    UCSInstall_UCOS_9.1.2.12900-11.sgn.iso &  UCSInstall_UCCX_9_0_2_UCOS_9.0.2.11002-27.sgn.iso
in which order should the installations take place ?? CUCM Publisher last ?? Publisher first ??
    Thanks
    James

    Hi James,
+5 to my friend Aman for his good tips here
    Messages are preserved during the "switch-version" so the messages left before the command is run will be preserved as they are stored in a "common" partition;
Switching to the Upgraded Version of Connection 8.x Software
If you chose not to automatically switch to the upgraded partition at the end of the upgrade, do the following procedure when you are ready to switch partitions.
To Switch to the Upgraded Version of Connection 8.x Software
Step 1 If you do not have a recent backup, back up the server by using the Disaster Recovery System. For more information, see the Disaster Recovery System Administration Guide for Cisco Unity Connection Release 8.x athttp://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/connection/8x/drs_administration/guide/8xcucdrsag.html.
Step 2 Sign in to Cisco Unified Operating System Administration.
Step 3 From the Settings menu, select Version.
Step 4 On the Version Settings page, select Switch Versions, and the following occurs:
    •Connection services are stopped.
•Data from the partition where the older version is installed is copied to the partition where the newer version is installed. If changes to the database schema require updates to the format of data, that occurs in this step. Note that messages are stored in a common partition, so they are not copied.
•The Connection server restarts and switches to the newer version.
Note You can check the status of the installation of the upgrade software by using the CLI command show cuc version. The upgrade is complete when the inactive partition has the upgraded software and the active partition has the old software.
    http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/voice_ip_comm/connection/8x/upgrade/guide/8xcucrugx/8xcucrug009.html#wp1056720
    The upgrade order is shown here (above link) as well, which is Pub followed by Sub;
Task List for Upgrading Connection 7.x or 8.x Software to the Shipping 8.x Version in a Connection Cluster

  • Cisco Unity Connect 8.6 smarthost

    Hi Guys,
I am in the process of deploying the Cisco Unity Connect 8.6 on the virtual environment. I was able to configure the smtp configuration smarthost with our exchange server. And the test user is able to receive the voicemail via the phone and the email. My question is, since we are going to outsource our email to Gmail in a couple months. Currently I am using the "Accept and Relay the Message" under Message Action for the User and the "Reply Address as [email protected]".  I would like to know if there is a way to configure the smarthost as gmail, if so what will be the smarthost for gmail? Has anyone has this scenrio setup before? Please let me know. Thanks in Advance.
    Hakach

    Hakach,
Google's SMTP relay server is smtp.google.com. However, I don't think this will work with Unity Connection. Google forces authentication and TLS encryption. As far as I know the Unity Connection won't support these pre-requisites for smarthost configurations.
Maybe you can consider keeping a basic relay server on prem and have Unity Connection relay through this server to Google. Of course the 3rd party solution should support the pre-reqs defined by Google.
    HTH.
    Regards,
    Bill

  • Cisco Unity Connection cluster issue

    Hello,
I have a Cisco Untiy Connection cluster of two servers, one publisher and one subscriber.  They are running software: 7.1.3ES43.33034-43.  Yesterday at about 8:43 I lost connection to the subscriber server.  I could still ping it but was unable to get to it via GUI nor SSH.  I spoke to TAC yesterday and they told me to simply reboot the server.  I was a little concerned about this because I don't want to cause some kind of split-brain effect.  I work in a hospital and it is imperative that the voicemail system stay up.  My only other option would be to do this at 4:00 am on a Sunday.  Any suggestions?
    Thanks

    Hi David and all,
we have a unity connection 9.x pair. after an IP address change on the subscriber we are getting the error message:
‘Communication is not functioning correctly between the servers in the Cisco Unity Connection cluster’
Both servers respectively show its own status as a publisher but lost communication with the other server (if we check cluster management from either server).
show tech network hosts – displays correct info.
show perf query class "Number of Replicates Created and State of Replication"
    ==>query class :
     - Perf class (Number of Replicates Created and State of Replication) has instances and values:
ReplicateCount  -> Number of Replicates Created   = 603
        ReplicateCount  -> Replicate_State                = 2
On both servers the replication is showing as 2 – so its good.
Various reboots have been done, services are up and working and there are no firewalls between server’s .
    Any advice appreciated.
    TIA…Jeff

  • Cisco Unity 4.2 to Cisco Unity Connection 8.x

    Hi All,
My company wants to upgrade from our current version of Cisco Unity 4.2 to the newest version of Cisco Unity Connection. I're read that the process can be some what complicated. I get the basics that I need to back up our unity server. Then install Unity Connection then re-install the back up after the unity connection install.
The bad part is that I have to use the same server so I have to do a back up of Unity then wipe out that server, then install Unity Conenction and then apply the back up of Unity. In a perfect world I could use a second server.
Does anyone have any advice that about this process. Any helpful hints and advice I would apperciate.
    Thanks,
    Dan

  • Delete email will delete VM (VoiceMail) on Cisco Unity Connection 8.0

    Dear Netpro Gurus,
One of my customers have recently bought a new Cisco Unity Connection 8.0.  They are currently using Microsoft Outlook (with Microsoft Exchange) and they are currently setup with SMTP Smart Host so whenever they got a new Voicemail on their Cisco IP phone, they will automatically receive a new email with WAV attachment on their Microsoft Outlook.
However, what they found is say when they have 20 x new Voicemail messages, they will have 20 x emails with WAV attachments which is normal.  But when they listen and delete all their email attachments, they still have to go to their Voicemail inbox on their IP Phones by pressing the 'Envelope' button and delete the SAME 20 x Voicemail messages before their MWI will go off.
What my customer wants is there any method when my customer delete all their emails on Outlook, the voicemail on Unity Connection will too be deleted at the SAME TIME, and also the MWI will turn off the SAME TIME??
    Cheers,
    Hunt

  • Migrating from Cisco Unity Express to Cisco Unity Connection

    Hello,
We are going to migrate from Cisco Unity Express 8.6.6 to Cisco Unity Connection 9.1.2. Therefore, we need to migrate all mailboxes without data lost.
So, the questions are next: is it possible? Which tools we should use and what  steps we need to pass?
    Thanks,

Based on my experience of keeping the data (i.e. voicemails for users) it is really not worth it.
Because all these voicemails will add up the Mailbox Space and user will get unnecessary "mailbox full" warnings even though they may be deleted (it takes around 2 weeks to get rid of the deleted voicemails)
Hence, my recommendation would be to do a stare and compare for the most part and build all the Call Handlers etc, this will give you even better chance to get rid of all the unwanted stuff.

  • Cisco Unity Connection 8.5 Greeting Administrator

    Hi
I've set up 2 call handlers for an IVR set up I have created, it all works, I need the user to be able to create/amend greetings.
I have set up a DN pointing to connection, created a direct routing rule, checked conversation/greetings administrator, created a routing rule in for the DN I created in callmanager.
I 've set a call handler owner as me to test.
When I dial the number for greeting admin (12345), I get the normal welcome to cisco unity connection message.
it's not really clear in the admin guide how to drive it, any ideas anyone?
    Thanks
    Tim

    Hi Tim,
When I set this up on our CUC 7.1 system, I found that the Direct Routing Rule
only worked if the greeting Admin DN was actually on a phone and that number 12345
was used to access CUC (kinda makes sense). It's more likely that you set up DN 12345
as a CTI-RP or something else and are using Call Forward All to reach Unity Connection.
In this case you will need to use the Forwarded Routing Rules.
    Cheers!

  • Cisco Unity connection hardware requirement

I am working on hardware requirements for Cisco Unity connection. I am looking into the OVA template and it says for the hard disk you need is  2x500GB for 20000 users
My question is why we need 2 500GB. Can we do 1TB??
    Thanks in advance
    Uday

If you mean you want to use 1 HDD 1 TB VS 2 HDDs 500 GB the answer is no, the installer will look for 2 HDDs for the product to be installed if you choose the 10K/20K users VMs.

  • Cisco Unity Connection scheduler modify by Enduser?

    Hi,
is it possible that a enduser can modify a Cisco Unity Connection schedule?
How to do this if it`s possible?
    BR
    Michael

You mean schedules associated with call handlers (greeting and transfer rules)?  No, those are considered system level objects and can only be edited by an administrator.
if you mean schedules associated with their notification devices and the like, then yes those can be edited via the PCA web interface.

    Hi
can i have IVR feature with ccm 6.0.1 integrated with cisco unity connection 2.0.1.
And tell me a solution  how can i go for IVR with this design.
    Thanks.
    veera.

Yes, you can have a basic IVR with CUC, no one can tell you how to design your CUC, that's up to you and your requirements.
All you need are call handlers, caller input and greetings.
If you need someone to do all this for you, engage with a local Cisco partner.
