Question about iCloud backup

Broke my phone today and have a shattered screen.  Cannot access anything via phone.  Went to iCloud to get my contacts and info I need and there is nothing there.  It says it backed up last night.  Any idea how I can get my contacts and info?

Hello,
I have a question. It say that you have to be pluged in and locked in order to backup my iPhone to iCloud. Does it really have to be locked?

question about iCloud.  How do I change my e-mail address, I got the wrong address.

There are a variety of options available to you, including creating an email "alias" or changing the email address associated with your iCloud ID.
For all practical purposes your iCloud email address and Apple ID are interchangeable. To change your Apple ID read Apple ID: Changing your Apple ID.
If you simply created an Apple ID in error, you might consider abandoning it altogether and creating a new one. On the other hand, if you already used that Apple ID to purchase iTunes or other digital content, don't create a new Apple ID, because any purchases you already made are inexorably linked to the Apple ID used to make them.

  • Question about ICloud. Do I have to back-up my iPad and iPhone4 b4 sync with iTunes?

Question about ICloud. Do I have to back-up my iPad and iPhone4 to iCloud b4 sync with iTunes? Last time I synced iphone4 with iTunes, I updated to 5.0.1 when I connected, but it wiped my calendar entries. I had to reset to the last date I had synced (4months ago). So my question is... Now that I have iCloud, should I back up both my iPhone and my iPad before I sync with iTunes?  And will all the data from iPad, iPhone, and computer all merge when the iPad and iPhone are synced?

    It does not matter.

    See:

However, not all in-app purchases will transfer to another device. For which ones ill not see:

  • Has anyone had a message come up on their iPad about icloud backup?

Has anyone had a message come up on their iPad about icloud backup? The message on mine is"This iPad hasn't been backed up  in 3 weeks.Backups happen when this iPad is plugged in, locked, and connected to Wi-Fi."The message won't go away and the iPad is frozen, you can't unlock it or turn it off.Any suggestions as to how to fix this problem?

Try to make a hard reboot of your device by pressing and holding down the home button + power button at the same time for ca. 10-20 sec. until the Apple logo appears.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Try restarting the iPad and seeing if that helps.
If your back up continually fails, you might try turning off back up on your mobile device (settings > iCloud > storage & backup) and then deleting the backup file from iCloud by swiping the backup file on the mobile device (settings > iCloud > storage & backup > manage…) and then turning back up on again.

  • Few questions about icloud!!!

hi guys....i rly find it complicated to deal with this icloud thing i wanna ask a few questions ..so my 1st question is that how to get the camera roll back on my photo stream cuz i thought am saving space and i deleted all the photos in my photo stream how to get that back and if its not possiple is the pics i deleted still on i cloud ?
2nd question about back up..so when i back up through icloud all the pics i have wither it was on the photo stream or not is backed up ?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Note that Photo Stream does not store photos: any photo in Photo Stream is deleted from iCloud 30 days after being added. Photo Stream is designed to sync your pictures to all your devices. If your photos were removed from Photo Stream and Camera Roll, the only way to get them back is by restoring a backup with those photos.
Your phone backup includes all the photos taken with it (those ones which were stored on Camera Roll), so if you have lost them, you can restore a backup. See -> Back up and restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch using iCloud or iTunes - Apple Support

  • HT4085 I have a message on my ipad that has locked it up.  About icloud backup hasn't been done in 5 weeks. How can I clear this up?

My ipad is locked up. A message stating that an icloud backup has not been done for 5 weeks. How can I get rid of this and prevent this from happening again?

This should get rid of the message once the iPad fully restarts.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
The obvious answer I would think is to backup the iPad on a regular basis so the message doesn't reappear - unless you are saying that you do backup and the message popped up anyway.

  • Hi, I have a problem about ICloud backup, I can not turn on ICloud backup in my iphone5c (7.1.2) do you know anything about it. Thanks

    There are two possible case
First I upgraded to IOS 8 2 weeks ago and then downgrade again
Or I upgrade 7.1.2 now maybe that is why I can not make iCloud backup.

        jsavage9621,
It pains me to hear about your experience with the Home Phone Connect.  This device usually works seamlessly and is a great alternative to a landline phone.  It sounds like we've done our fair share of work on your account here.  I'm going to go ahead and send you a Private Message so that we can access your account and review any open tickets for you.  I look forward to speaking with you.

  • Questions about iPhone backup?

I am iPhone novice,so i have some questions about iPhone Transfer included iTunes.
    1. Only back up iPhone files via iTunes?
    2. iTunes just can back up address list and calendar?
    3. i want to back up plug-in,patch,application program, game ect, how to operate iPhone backup?Anyone can tell me simple&professional tutorial about iPhone?Or introduce a good iPhone Transfer like or better than iTunes.
Appreciate your detailed answers! Thanks in advance.

iTunes is required to transfer iTunes content from your iTunes library on your computer - music, movies, TV shows, podcasts, 3rd party apps, and selected photos from your computer to your iPhone. iTunes also serves as the sync conduit for contacts and calendar events between your iPhone and the supported address book and calendar application on your computer.
iTunes creates and maintains a backup for your iPhone which is updated by iTunes as the first step during the iTunes sync process. The backup does not include all data on your iPhone. The backup does not include any iTunes content - music, movies, TV shows, podcasts, or 3rd party apps. All iTunes content on your iPhone should remain in your iTunes library on your computer and the backup doesn't include any photos transferred from your computer. All photos transferred from your computer should remain on your computer as well.
This link provides the data that is included with your iPhone's backup.

  • I have a question about icloud.

I do not have icloud in my system preferences.  I have mail set up on icloud and did the transfer of my mobile me account.  But icloud does not appear in the system preferences.  Where is it or is it not supposed to be there.  Mobile me is in the preferences, but not icloud.  Thanks.

It's not there in anything less than 10.7.x, no worry, iCloud eMail is about all you have of iCloud in 10.5.x
But no worry, unless you've locked your future to Apple's Apps & iDevices, there really isn't anything usefull about iCloud other than eMail.

  • Several questions about iCloud & iPod touch

I have several questions regarding iCloud which I just started using yesterday.
So far most of my music has been uploaded, but many songs say that "an error occurred" so they were not able to be uploaded. 1) How can I get these songs to upload/try again? 2) These songs are currently on my iPod touch.  I haven't configured my iPod for iCloud/iTunes Match yet for fear of losing the music that is already on there.  If something from my desktop was unable to be uploaded, will it be deleted from my iPod when I set up my iPod for iCloud/iTunes Match?
    3) I have purchased music with my iPod but not synced it with a computer.  Will that music be lost if I start using iCloud on my iPod? Will it be uploaded to the cloud so I can access it on my laptop and desktop (which are both Mac products and set up with iCloud)? I no longer connect my iPod to a computer because the laptop it was connected to and had all of my music on died and my new one doesn't have enough storage.  My desktop is old and has my older music collection and I fear losing all of the music that is on my iPod (that I don't have anywhere else).  I hope that iCloud will help me with all of this- please tell me that it will!  5) I accidentally downloaded half of an album to my iPod and half to my laptop.  Will iCloud allow me to have the whole album on 1 device? Thanks so much!

    Lots and lots of questions
The new Photos app in OS X should address much of this - it greatly simplifies syncing stuff across machines. Apple has details on it up here:
    https://www.apple.com/osx/photos-preview/
It says "coming this spring" and a pre-release version has already been made available to developer testers.

  • Question about icloud and itunes match

when icloud comes out i know i can download all my purchased music on my apple id but i purchased most of my apps and music on an old apple id , my question is if i use itunes match are those apps and songs assosiated with my new apple id so when i backup from iCloud my old music and apps are there too. In pretty sure my music will work with itunes match but what about my apps?

Itunes match has not been release so it is hard to know.
Just sign into your old account and use icloud.

  • Thunderbolt / USB3 questions about external backup drives for my new MacBook Pro

I have a new MacBook Pro retina 13". It has two USB3 and two Thunderbolt2 ports.
Until now on my iMac I've kept two backups on two WD USB2 drives. I have never had any problems with any of my WD Passport drives. One for Time Machine and one for CCC (a complete bootable clone incrementally created at 3:30 am every day).
I'd like to get new portable drives for my MBP for these backups going forward and have a few very basic questions, since this is the first time to have a device with a USB3 port, and the first time I even heard about Thunderbolt.
If I get a USB3 drive and need to use it to restore things on my older iMac, which just has USB2, will it generally connect and run with USB2 at a slower speed? Or would I have to get a drive with both USB2 and USB3 ports?
Is Thunderbolt just an Apple thing? Or is it a new standard widely used by peripherals now? I just never heard of it before. Is it faster than USB3?
Is it common for drives to have both Thunderbolt and USB2 connections?
Are there "hubs" for Thunderbolt like there are for USB? Considering the limited number of ports, I'm wondering the best way to connect 2 external drives. My iMac has 4 USB2 ports on the back, and I connect one drive separate to each of those ports, rather than going through a hub.
Is USB3 like USB2 in that if you have even 1 USB2 device (e.g. my Logitech headset) connected to a USB3 hub it will slow down everything on that hub to USB2?
Any recommendations for good, portable backup drives?
    Thanks,
    Doug

    Hi Doug,
Lets see if we can address some of these:
If I get a USB3 drive and need to use it to restore things on my older iMac, which just has USB2, will it generally connect and run with USB2 at a slower speed? Or would I have to get a drive with both USB2 and USB3 ports?
USB3 is "backwards compatible" with USB2 so plugging a USB3 drive into a USB2 port should work, but at USB2 speeds.
Is it common for drives to have both Thunderbolt and USB2 connections?
Drives sold as Thunderbolt often (not always) have USB as well, drives sold as USB never (in my experience) have Thunderbolt connections.
Are there "hubs" for Thunderbolt like there are for USB? Considering the limited number of ports, I'm wondering the best way to connect 2 external drives. My iMac has 4 USB2 ports on the back, and I connect one drive separate to each of those ports, rather than going through a hub.
Yes there are (but don't expect them to be comparable in price to a USB hub) e.g. see here: http://www.belkin.com/uk/p/P-F4U055/
Is Thunderbolt just an Apple thing? Or is it a new standard widely used by peripherals now? I just never heard of it before. Is it faster than USB3?
I'ts an Apple technology (like firewire) and is far from widely used on peripherals.  There ARE Thunderbolt drives etc by companies such as LaCie, WD etc but they are still very expensive (3 or 4x the price of an equivalent sized USB drive).  For some this was a worthwhile expense since Thunderbolt is many times faster than USB2.  But the arrival of USB3 has, in my opinion, changed the landscape.  Yes, Thunderbolt is theoretically faster than USB3 (up to twice as fast) but benchmark tests have shown that in real world situations, the speed difference varies from no difference to Thunderbolt being 25 or 30% faster.  When you take into account that USB3 drives are more common than Thunderbolt and are only a little more expensive than USB2 drives at present, then it's a "no brainer" as far as I am concerned.
    Hope this helps.

  • A question about partial backups.

In the usual way I backup my iMac to an external hard drive using 3rd party software and that's fine. But for additional security I bought two additional solid state drives of about 60 GB so I could make extra copies of some important files that change frequently.
My question is, what's the best way to backup these smaller SSDs? I can plug each into the main external drive and the iMac but not into each other -- can't daisy-chain them. Is there software made just for this?

There is no software for daisy chaining two drives that cannot be daisy chained. You can use your backup utility or some other utility to backup the files you want individually to the SSD.
