((Question)) About  iDVD 6 - Music Encoding

Hi,
I have created a slideshow with music in iPhoto 6. I then xxport it into iDVD 6.
After I set everything up and successfully burn the DVD
The issue i am having when viewing the playback is when the montage/slideshow ends.. it fades to black and then i get 2 or 3 seconds of the beginning of the song. That shoud not happen. I have the iPhoto 6 preferences set to play the music only once through the slideshow.
What must I do to correct this problem?
Sincerely,
D.

iTunes does not at present have any feature for watching folders and automatically importing tracks you add to a folder. Using strictly iTunes, you'll have to add any such tracks manually, by dragging them to the iTunes window or by using the Add To Library command. For the Windows systems, here are a couple of potential solutions from other developers, though:

For the Macs, Hazel may do the job for you.

  • Question about lead in music for podcasting.

Question about lead in music for podcasting.
I listen to many other podcasts and there are those which play lead in music with bit of music inside their podcast. The music are songs we all know and enjoy. I have notice that they only play short small clips of these songs and are not royalty free songs.
My Question would be is there a limit of time which you can play any song with out paying for it and use it in a podcast legally.
    Thanks Mike

Legally you cannot use copyright music without written permission or a licence from a recognized authority, no matter how short the clip. Many people do this and get away with it (and for full tracks too) and it's debatable how much notice anyone is likely to take, or whether they would be bothered about a short clip. But the legal position is, it's not legal.

  • I have three questions about managing my music library

    Hello,
I have three questions about managing my music library, I hope you can help me with them:
    1) Is there a limit of how many entries, songs, albums, art work, can iTunes handle? I have a hunch iTunes is like a database program and am curious about its capacity. I have two 2-TB drives and am wondering what is going to happen when I fill these two drives up. Other than disk space, what are iTunes limitations?
    2) Talking about these two drives. How can I use both as a source for my iTunes library. Can I have two folders selected as the source of my library? I am not sure if I have enough disk space to hold all my music, but I do also have a 1TB almost empty drive is need be.
    3) OK now comes te real question. I am sure that I have duplicates in my library and I sure would love to clean my library up.Possiby if I do get to clean it up, I can save some disk space and that is always a good thing. Any good techniques, software, techniques to follow while ripping music to help keep my library organized. Please be as detailed as you can.
Thanks and I can't wait to hear from you.

As far as I know you're going to run out of disc space before you hit any limits. Each object in iTunes has a 64-bit key to access it. That said as your library grows it will get less responsive as bigger indexes take exponentially longer to process.

iTunes wants to manage everything inside one big folder. Some idiosyncrasies with the way it manages things if you have to move to a new drive means it is best if you can stick to that plan. If your library grows larger then you'll have to take manual control of where some or all of your content is stored. I use a variation of a script called ConsolidateByMoving which you could adapt for your needs.

When it comes to deduping I've written another script for that called DeDuper, see this thread for background.

  • Question About "Manually Manage Music and Videos"

    Hi!
I have a podcast stuck on my iPod. It is not deleted from a Playlist upon syncing, even though I've deleted it from the Playlist in iTunes. It still shows up in the "On My Device" representation of the Playlist, and of course, on the iPod itself. So I thought to manually delete it, but of course it's name is obfuscated in the iPod's directory. So I thought that maybe I could do it by selecting "manually manage music and videos" in iTunes. Presumably files would become human readable then, yes?
Here's my question: What will happen to all the content already on my iPod via syncing if I check that box? Will it all (all 140 GB) disappear and have to be re-synced? Or can I check that box, go in and delete the one podcast, then uncheck the box, all without affecting the rest of the content already on the device?
    TIA for your help!

If you post from a a question from the bottom of an article's page then you should get its reference, e.g. HT1535 in your case, on the post's title. The ability to edit you post only lasts for 15 minutes and allows you to correct/add extra info.
I get the 'manually manage music and videos' tockbox as described on that article. If you only 'videos' then are you using iTunes Match on your iPad ? I don't use it but I've seen posts that say having it enabled on a device can affect the syncing of music.

  • Question about Comes With Music in the UK

Ever since I heard about the service, I was quite interested in getting a Comes With Music device on contract, but looking for one is like finding a needle in a haystack.
Ideally, I would like to stay with O2, but they don't seem to offer contracts with Comes With Music, from what I can tell. I called their sales team four times to try and find out and pretty much got a different answer every time, although the one person who did seem to know what he was talking about gave a definitive "no".
Other than that, I'm finding it impossible to find deals. I know Orange do the 32GB X6, because a friend of mine has this contract (not that I've found anything about it online), and the Nokia site itself offers the 5800 CWM with T-Mobile. Like I said though, I'd rather stick with O2 if possible, because I've always had excellent signal from them.
So basically, does anyone have any information that may help me? I'm starting to think the reason CWM isn't doing well over here is because nobody really knows about it and because if you do find out about it, it's virtually impossible to find a contract.

Your only option for getting a CwM phone on O2 is to see what places like carphone warehouse and phones 4u have to offer.
O2 have refused to sell CwM phones directly in the past.
Instead of paying more for a CwM phone you may want to consider spotify premium instead. It's £10 per month and it allows you to either stream music or download for use on the phone.
The X6 32gb CwM has become quite hard to find since the cheaper 16gb model (without CwM) appeared. Originally it was exclusive to phones 4u but didn't sell well due to it's overly high price.

  • I have a question about exporting a music file from Express.

Hi, I'm a new Logic Express user and I have a question.
I have been using Garageband for some time and I figured I needed a higher level of music producing. Now, I have created a song in Logic Express. However, I DON'T KNOW HOW TO EXPORT IT! it was so much in GB. But Now, I'm having trouble. I looked through the manual more than once and I can't find a way to export my logic file as an Mp3 file.
    Can anyone help me? Thanks!

In the file menu there is a BOUNCE option, when you bounce it you can set it to convert to an MP3 right there or you can do it in iTunes. Its up to you.

  • Question about iDVD Revolution theme

When I create a project using the Revolution iDVD theme, the first "page" contains the name of the movie, and a button to move to the second page.  On the second page is a button to play the movie and another button for scene selection.  All default stuff.  My question is, is there a way eliminate the first page, so that when the DVD starts playing, the buttons to play the movie and scene selection are available?
I'm trying to avoid having two screens with menu, and reduce it to only one screen, which is shown when you first play the DVD.
    -Thanks

Okay, I just figured it out -- When you start iDVD, and click the "Magic iDVD" button, do NOT drag a movie to where it says "Drag movies here".   Instead set the DVD title and click the "Create Project" button on the bottom right.
Now, assuming using the "Revolution" theme, drag a movie underneath the title, ensuring not to drag it to a drop sone.  You will then see a "Play Movie" and "Scene Selection" button created on the first page.  In fact, there is no second page at this point.

  • Question about iPhone and Music

I'm a long time PC user but about to buy an iPhone.
I'm a little confused how iTunes works. Are there any restrictions about the type or source of the music I put on my iPhone? I have thousands of MP3s that have been ripped from CDs over the years.
    Thanks!

The iPhone will gladly accept all your MP3s with no issues. You have to import them into iTunes. iTunes can then help you organize them, put album cover art on them, etc. iTunes is the only way to put music onto your iPhone right now, but it doesnt care where the MP3 came from.

  • Two Questions about IDvd Burning?

    1) When I drop an iMovie in the project, a box appears and ask if I want to use Chapter Markers? At the same time the Apple Due loop (Multi colored Circle is on and continues. I have let it continue to circle hoping it will turn into an arrow.) I have waited as long as 15 minutes while the multi colored circle spins. After what seems an inordinate amount of time (while it is still circling) I click okay to import chapter markers and circle goes away. Is this normal? some time DVD burns, some times it doesn't.
    2) When I get the message that the compression is complete, but there were burn errors, I redo the project and use the same disc (because I don't see any indication where any burn has taken place.) Am I wrong or should I toss disc and go with a new fresh media disc?

    1) I think this is normal. Just choose OK and import.
    2) Usually if the disk has not been touched, the error message tells you the disk has not been touched. Then go ahead and use it again.
I always suggest that users try the "Save as Disk Image" and then burn that image with Toast or Disk Utility. This will save you from having to guess about burning!
    Chapter Marker Checklist:
DON'T put a CM within 2 secs ot the beginning. (iDVD will add one for you!)
DON'T put a CM within 2 secs of another CM
DON'T put a CM within 2 secs of a transition

  • Questions About CS5 Premiere, Media Encoder, and Encore

I've just started using Adobe CS5 and have noticed several issues that preplex
    me:
    1.  I edit a video clip in Premiere and put it into the que for Adobe Media Encoder to convert.  The input file in Premiere is an HD MPG2 file.  I've set the file output to be Blu-ray AVCHD with AC-3.  After Adobe Media Encoder finishes converting the file, the time lengts of the video (M4V) and audio (AC3) do not match.  They usually differ by 2 to 6 seconds.  This causes video/audio sync problems when brought into Encore.
    2.  Some files that I que into Media Encoder from Premiere state that "Rendering media."  I proceed with the conversion and every thing seems OK except it's not.  When these files are brought into Encore, the first part of the files produce the same message.  It seems that this part of the file is never rendered.
    3.  I had 250 gb available on my system drive before I started using Adobe CS5 but that free space quickly disappeared.  I did learn how to clean up the cache mannually.  It would seem that Adobe could do this automatically.
    Any suggestions?

  • Question about idvd project with multiple movies

Is there a way to drop in multiple movies and have each movie play right away when it is clicked? Right now the first movie plays on one click but the rest go to another menu where you have to click play movie. I just want my main menu to show the 4 movies I have and then immediately play them when they are clicked.

You can put them in an iDVD slideshow and they will play consecutively.  But don't assign a transition in the slideshow:
It won't matter what slide duration you select.

  • Question about streaming itunes music files (AAC Format) to my Sony Bravia TV.

I am streaming iTunes music files tfrom my Laptop to my Sony TV; the files are in AAC format.   However a Sony technician said I need to convert them to MP3 for the streaming to work properly.
It seems to work OK without converting them so why should I convert them?
And more importantly, if I convert them to MP3, will iTunes continue to work right?  And will iTunes still synch to my Nano and to my iPhone4?
Thanks for any wisdom you all can offer.

    No.
You would have to have itunes running in order to stream music, or, as you point out, have an appleTV

  • Quick question about iDVD 4 ...

When burning a DVD, is the maximum length of time I can make my video 1 hour long or 90 minutes long?? I keep forgetting this ... THANXX!!
    Ryan

Just to add that your confusion may be that 90 mins is the maximum recommended in iDVD4 but iDVD5 offers up to 2 hours on a standard DVD-R.
Sue's reference is worth browsing through over and over again.

  • Many questions on iDVD '06...

    Hey guys,
I am a heavy Windows user but with one Mac at home and now considering moving my personal stuff to a new Mac Pro with a MacBook on the side.
So I have some questions about iDVD that I would love to find answers. Here we go:
    1. What kind of camcorders are supported? miniDV only? Or can I use DVD based cameras (DVD-R, DVD-RAM) and even Hard Disk based ones (seems like the industry is moving towards HDD based cameras as we can see on the latest high definition 1080i cameras from Sony - HDD and DVD only, no miniDV anymore). Is there a list of supported cameras somewhere on the Apple website?
    2. Can I import MPEG files to iDVD? I have tons of MPEG files I got off my DVD-RAM based camcorder that I can use with no problems on Windows apps like DVD MovieFactory. Can I do the same with iDVD?
    3. Does it support external burners? Any? If not any, is there a list of supported ones?
    4. If I export the my iDVD project, can I export in .ISO format so I can burn on any machine, Mac or PC? Or it exports as .DMG only?
    Thanks guys!

Thanks for the quick reply Sue.
The main thing is I do not intend to use iMovie at all. All I want to use is iDVD as I will not be editing anything. I just want to copy whatever files are on the camera (could be in MPEG format) and use them as source files for an iDVD project. Again, there is no editing at all on my case.
From what I understand iMovie is for editing and that is something I do not do at all.
And for iDVD, it does not support USB2.0 burners at all? Am I stuck to firewire?
And again, is .ISO a format iDVD can export to or it always export to .DMG?
    Thanks!
    Hi Claudio:
    1. iMovie was made to work with miniDV cameras. It is
possible but not good to convert files form a DVD
camera or a Harddrive camera to iMovie. There is a
list that is outdated from Apple. Read this from Dan Slagle. It also contains the
link to the Apple Camera list.
    2. To import your MPEG or DVD files to imovie, read
    this
3.It does support external burners via firewire. Youo
acn look here and decide which
    one for yourself.
4.If you have the proper software, you can export the
file to be burned on the PC or the Mac. I have never
used this but you can try.

  • Very Confused about iTunes-purchsed Music Videos in iTunes and on iPod

I've searched and searched but can't seem to find previous discussions that address my questions about iTunes-purchased music videos.
I would call myself an experienced iTunes and iPod user. I have no problems working with music, movies, TV shows...
Here are my music video comments and questions:
Why don't I have a Music Video playlist on iTunes but there is one on my iPod.
How can I create a music video playlist?
Why does my iPod Classic show multiple copies of the same music video in the music video playlist and in the general music list?
That seems like a good start. Any and all comments, suggestions, etc...GREATLY appreciated.

*How can I create a music video playlist?*
In iTunes go to File>New Smart Playlist. Match the rule "Video Kind">"Is">"Music Video"
    Check the box "Live Updating"
