Question About Importing Midi Files??

I find breaking down tempos and creating a tempo map easier for me in Pro Tools. So I did that on a file tonight, and just made a dummy midi file in PT so that I could import it into Logic and have a tempo map ready to go.
But now I see that Logic will only import tempo if you OPEN the midi file. But there's nothing in the midi file as I mentioned, it was just a dummy to give me a map.
Now it means creating all my track setups, VIs, everything, everytime I do this. Is there any way around this that I'm missing?
I just want my existing template to import a midi file's tempo created in another program ...

Hi
OPEN the MIDI file, then select all the tempo events (either in the Global Track or in the Tempo List). Copy the tempo events.
Switch to your Logic template project, open the Tempo list then paste in the tempo map. You might need to delete the first (original) tempo event after pasting.

Basic question about importing wma files

Hi, I have a basic question about importing wma files. I ripped some cd's on a Mindows computer using Media Player, but now want to copy them to my Mac and use them in iTunes on my Mac. when I use Import in iTunes, nothing happens and I cant even seem to copy them one by one using the Music folder.
Can someone help me?

iTunes for Mac doesn't support .wma files.
If you can use a PC to convert them, you can use one of many freeware applications. Google for 'wma to mp3'.
For the Mac there's the shareware program EasyWMA that can convert them.

Some questions about importing HTML files

Hi, folks
Let's suppose we want to import a pack of HTML files formatted in HTML5 wit's it's CSS into a double-oriented folio. A couple or three questions about that, please:
1. Is there a limit for a reasonable quantity of HTML files I can import into a folio? I mean.. 100 would be way too much, for instance?
2. These HTML files could be navigated and referenced from inside TOC-pages made in InDesign,right? (navto://..., I gues?)
2. Will it be possible, by means of HTML adaptative design techniques, to treat both orientations (vertical and horizontal) as different viewports or screen sizes so that the design adapts for instance the column width with its CSS?
3. That said, will the InDesign final app. respect that adaptative CSS rules?
I am asking this because we are looking for a way to inject big quantities of content with a very similar design into our application in a really fast and automatizable way and I have the suspicion* that importing HTML5 preformated CSS files could be the a very good and simple alternative to importing XML into InDesign templates as we start out content as tagged almost-html files.

I assume you are asking about using HTML articles.
1. There is no limit beyond simply keeping things reasonable.
2. Yes. Just use navto://articlename
3. Yes. I've used min-width of 768 and max width of 1024 to control it.
4. InDesign does not enter into any of this with the exception of using the folio builder panel. Everything else is done in Dreamweaver or whatever program you decide to use for the article.
If you want to restrict the HTML articles to one orientation or the other, use the _h and _v suffixes.

if i import a .wmv video into the library of my .fla file,
does the import convert the .wmv into a flash movie? in other
words, when someone views the .swf in their browser, is it played
by the flash player alone, or is windows media somehow involved in
its playback?

Having problem importing midi files.

I am having trouble importing midi files in GB. Every time I do all I get is a single insrument, and not the whole midi file as it was when I downloaded it. I tried Dent du midi and cant even get that to work. It looks like it is working, but never seperates the tracks. I would really like to be able to pick apart midi files. Anyone have any ideas. This is my first Apple, but I have been a PC Tech for 8 years now. (I Hate PCs, I love the Mac)

Welcome to the forum. Yes, sometimes these issues occur. Since I am the biggest importer of MIDI files to GB3, I will see what I can do for you.
First, when you wish to import a MIDI, drag the file onto an empty area (ie no tracks) of the GarageBand window. Hold until you see a + sign. Drop, and you should see the tracks appear.
How did you obtain the MIDI file? From the Net? How did you save it? What were the steps?
Do you have Quicktime Pro? Sometimes the way you save a MIDI file will make a difference. You have a choice between "save as movie" or "save as source", and I believe the latter works best.
Has it worked for other MIDI files? Or is one or two giving you issues? Perhaps if you can post a link to the MIDI file, I can have a look at it.

Use MPEG Streamclip to convert it. Depending on the type of file you might need to purchase the MPEG-2 playback component.

Importing .midi files into iTunes library

Hello! Can anyone please tell me how to import .midi files into my iTunes library, then convert those files into .mp3 to burn onto a CD?

I am getting the file from another location on my hard drive, not from a CD.
Doesn't matter. File -> Add file to library will work if the file is compatible.
Also, when trying to change the import settings, it seems to be for importing from a CD, not from another file location.
It is for importing or converting.

Importing midi file from Sibelius

I've been trying to import a score I composed in Sibelius 6 into Logic Pro X. What happens is I have no control over the panning or volume; everything reverts back to it's original position after setting the pan and volume. I had everything panned to center and volume equal on all tracks before I exported the midi file from Sibelius. When I first tried this, the dynamic markings in the score moved the faders up and down. I removed them, but still have the same problem. Any ideas?

Use the "Transform" window.
Transform can be used to simply have a complex selection criteria, without actually modifying the data.
With your region selected, in the transform window specify your selection criteria, for example "All NOTES with a velocity of 45 or less", and hit the "Select Only". This will select all notes in that region that make your criteria. Then use the cut/paste functions to move them to a new region.
If you are unsure how the transform window works and need some more help, post back.

Can't import midi files in garageband 11 after lion install?

I can't import or open midi files in garageband 11 ,tried reinstalling from my app dvd, will not allow, it is grayed out was using snow leopard and updated
to lion and thats when it quit also my quicktime pro 7 will no longer export midi.

Same here. Now that I think of it, I recently put in Logic Studio 8 and Garageband didn't open on it's own anymore. That was iLife'06. I then up-graded to iLife '08 and Garageband still doesn't open to a new project. The only way I can still open Garageband is to make a "template" out of one of their demos, then when that opens I strip the tracks out and start with new ones. By the way, I just tried to install XLN Audio's Addictive Drums. They work in Logic Studio, but do not open at all in Garageband. Error message says the plug-in is not "valid". So much for Garageband being easier than Logic.

always when i import it, there comes a window with "new smpte-frame rate". when i click ok, it doesn't import anything... what can i do?

thanks, it works with some midi files. but when i'm saving a file in finale 2007 as a midi file, it doesn't work... i checked the sync prefences and they don't look wrong... it's really strange!

Trouble importing midi files

I cannot get midi files that were created and exported from Cubase SL 1.04 3-5 years ago and initially worked in Garageband 2 to import.
They will work with dent du midi but will not drag successfully into the GB interfase. These did come in weeks ago. I believe it might have something to do with QT 7.02
I dont know. could it? I have checked everything. The files do not import. New files off the internet do import. i thought a midi file was a midi file was a midi file

Few Questions About Backing Up Files

Okay, I'm pretty new to this, and have checked the support pages, but I do have some questions about backing up my files.
I'm running out of room on my computer's hard drive, and am wondering if burning the library to CDs will allow me to quickly restore my library on my computer when I sync my iPod.
I know that when an iPod syncs with a comp, it will lose any songs that aren't on the library list. (If I deleted some songs to free up room, I'd lose those songs on my iPod when I synced it up.) Is there a way to prevent that from happening? Some way to save a headache continuously restoring my iPod's library every time I want to add a new song or recharge it?
I'm on Windows XP, if that matters.

Best and easiest solution is to buy an external hard drive. Then simply drag and drop your iTunes folder from your internal onto the external and copy the entire library.

Problems in importing MIDI files

I tried to use iTunes to organize my MIDI file collection. I encountered some problems during the import. The files were added to the library and they play fine in iTunes via Quicktime. After the import, the name column in iTunes does not show the name of the songs correctly. Many of the songs simply show a blank as the name. Some others have some other text as song names. Apparently, iTunes picks a comment field inside the MIDI header as the song name. When I inspect the MIDI file in the file system, the GET INFO command shows a different TITLE field in the MORE INFO tab, but that TITLE does not match what shows up in iTunes.
Is there an option in iTunes to make it take either the TITLE meta data in the header or take the file name as the song name?
Since I am organizing a few hundred MIDI files, entering the name one by one is a pain. Please help.

I tried to change the song names in iTunes. The changes stay fine for a short time. As soon as I play the song again, the value is reverted to the wrong value. I double check the MIDI files and they all have write permission.
The "Keep Music folder organized" option is turned on.

Question about calling batch file by using the System Exec+.vi?

I have a problem about calling batch file. I know that the system exec is equivalent to "run" in Windows. I called the batch file c:\rtxdos\bs\ch0.bat successfully in the "run" but it didn't work in the LabVIEW program. The dos prompt had an error message "Bad command or file name" and it just happen when I call this batch file in LabVIEW. Why?

Try to set the "working directory" parameter of System exec.vi to the directory where the batch file is located. It may help.
