Question about installing leapord on macbook pro

i have a macbook pro 2.4ghz and i am running mac osx tiger ( i think thats the one before leapord...) anyways i was wondering if i buy leapord and upgrade will i lose all of my information and files that i had before i installed it? someone please let me know. thank you

I'd recommend you do an "Archive and Install" to avoid the more frequent problems folks have had with the "Upgrade" option. The "Archive and Install" for the most part will have your data and settings all preserved and migrated to the new system, but it will leave out third-party drivers and user-created system files (like colorsync calibrations) which you'll have to reinstall, recreate, or copy back from the previous system folder that's still on the drive. The Upgrade option does its best to handle third-party drivers and extensions, but if something goes wrong then you can have a very unstable system, and folks have complained about crashes when they've used the "Upgrade" option (at least moreso than other folks who've had problems).

  • Question about installing programs on macbook pro

For example I downloaded adobe installer from the net, and the installer file can be found at the finder. Once
    I completely
Download and install adobe, can i delete the installer at
    The finder?

Can i ask another question?  What if i want to uninstall the program itself? For example, i found it a waste of memory anymore. Is dragging the application icon to the trash enough?

  • Questions about buying a new MacBook pro with SSD

Hello, I am about to buy a new MacBook pro. I'm going to get the 13 inch 2.8 dual core i7. I want a solid state drive also. I was going back and forth between the 128 gig or the 256 but I will probably get the 256. My computer will ship with lion but i am so confused about the TRIM support. Does lion take care of this? Dop I have to do anything like run a command or program to take care of TRIM?  Also, are solid states reliable? Should I get apple care? ( i really don't want to. Lol)

I suggest you buy the notebook with the standard drive and the standard RAM, if you were thinking about upgrading the RAM.
You can replace the original drive with a SSD at a lower cost then what Apple charges You can also buy RAM for a MUCH lower price.
    TRIM:
Lion only supports TRIM natively when used with a Apple SSD. BUT, REALLY BUT, You can enable TRIM support yourself on the SSD you install. I have a SSD in my MBP that I installed and I have enabled TRIM support on it.
Are SSDs reliable? As far as I can tell Yes they are. I have one in my Win 7 desktop PC for the last 9 months, No Problems. I have a SSD installed in my Dell Win 7 Notebook for the last 1.5 months, No Problems. I have a SSD installed in my MBP for the last month+, No problems. There are reports of SSDs failing but there are also report of standard hard drive failing all the time.
I used Intel 320 series SSDs in my 2 Windows PCs and a Kingston V200 SSD in my MBP. I switched to the Kingston because of the price and it runs on the higher SATA III bus speed, 6GB, where as the Intel 320 series only run at the 3GB speed, SATA II.

  • Question about Hz difference between MacBook Pro and iMac?

Some will think I'm crazy for saying this, but my new MacBook is driving me nuts.
In a nutshell, I have tinnitus as a result of an accident some years ago. I can hear an intermittent high pitch sound coming from the back left of the machine. I used to hear a similar sound from old TVs back when I first got tinnitus. After some deduction I realised that it was to do (I think) with the fequency. I sold my old TV and brought a new one that was a 100Hz. My theory was somewhat confirmed when they delivered it and it was the 50Hz version and yes, the high pitch sound was very evident! Upon receipt of the 100Hz model and I immediately noticed the difference.
I'm guessing then that the MacBook has something inside emitting 50-60Hz - someone on this forum mentioned that too.
Although I want the portability, I can't stand that sound all day long, so I'm thinking of taking it back and swapping it for an iMac.
The question is, will I find the same problem? I'm not sure of the technical specifications in terms of Hz's between the two machines.
It's too noisy in the shop to tell.
    Any advice appreciated.
PS - did not have this issue with my 2008 MacBook pro.
PPS - makes no difference if it's plugged in or not.

Isolating the source of the high frequency would take a technician with the instruments to deteermine what components emit sound...actually very easy to do with the proper test instruments, but essential to tell you what is causing the offending sound.  Unless you know that it will be very hard to determine if the iMac will not do the same thing.
Only qualitative way to find out is go to an Apple store or reseller with a good selection of hardware, work with the different hardware and see if it bothers you.  Preferably with few people around and low background noise level so the sound isn't masked.

  • Question about installing windows in macbook

i've heard about a lot of things, something about os x, paralle, bootcamp...
wt are those? do i need to install ALL of those things? are those expensive stuff??
the main point of me installing windows is so that my kids can play their PC game, which is the best?

Actually the newest version of parallels allows you
to play games with 3D acceleration,
There are games that play under windows in BootCamp that will still not play under windows in Parallels. I have a Windows Game Pirates that uses a play disk. It works perfectly under Bootcamp but will not work under Paralells. It has problems reading the game disk while in Paralells.

  • Question about issues with display - MacBook Pro.

So, recently, my cat jumped onto the keyboard while I was working. Ever since, I have been unable to get the display sized to fit into the screen. Even when I got to the display menu and alter the resolution, the image remains stretched. I have to push my cursor to the top and bottom of the frame to access the dock (which is not set to hiding) or the top bar. Does anyone know what caused this, or how I can fix it???

Yesterday, I tried a SEAGATE SSHD but my screen was always a showing a QUESTION MARK (?). It's not the cable because when I put back the old original version, everything works...Any sugestion of brabnding or procédure to upgrade my hard drive?

The largest 2.5" dia SATA drives available are 2 TB in capacity.
Have you tried the Seagate SSHD connected externally to the MBP via USB?  The drive itself may be faulty.
    Ciao.
Here is a good place to start looking for a replacement drive:

Also, I plan on buying next weekend, so will OS X Mountain Lion be pre-installed on it or will I have to update myself? Thank You.

  • If I do a clean install on my MacBook Pro will I be able to re-install apps (FCP, Aperture, MS Office etc.) from a Time Machine backup, or will I need the original install DVDs with authorization codes?

    I have two questions...
    1) If I do a clean install on my MacBook Pro will I be able to re-install apps (FCP, Aperture, MS Office etc.) from a Time Machine backup, or will I need the original install DVDs with authorization codes? (because I don't have them)
    2) Has anyone ever seen anything like this before on their computers?
The Apple Genius' were stumped by my laptop issues and said they'd never seen anything like it before and recommended I did a clean install. Below you can see my trash bin, and if you look at the "Empty" button it reads "N201" and then there's the "N39" to the left of it. You can also see these numbers over by the folder area--"SD5, SD6, SD7." But that's not all...
When I right click on items I see the numbers again. Instead of "Open with" I get "N152" and there's an "N35" and "LB1" towards the bottom.
I have no idea what's going on so I'm just going to do a clean install on my machine but I don't want to lose my apps. I don't have the original install DVDs for them anymore. If you have any suggestions please let me know. Thanks!

You don't lose them.  You can always redownload them from the app store after you log back in with your Apple ID.
    "Buy, download, and even redownload.
You can install apps on every Mac you use and even download them again. This is especially convenient when you buy a new Mac and want to load it with apps you already own."

  • Installing XP on Macbook pro in bootcamp ~updates first?

For installing XP on Macbook pro in bootcamp what updates should I have installed first? I have already installed parallels with XP and all is well but I have one PC program that will not run on parallels and needs to be setup in a Bootcamp environment. I want to run the same version of XP in bootcamp - I hope.
If anyone has experence in partitioning the HD without compromising the Parallels OS setup and the MAC OS please advise, or where I can find instruction for doing this. Thank you.
    Linda

Thanks- that what I was hoping. I wanted to run Windows XP- do you recommend a specific partition size? I have found information that is a bit conflicting about installing the same copy of Windows as was is installed on my Parallels. Some information states that it will wipe out my XP in Parallels if I try to install the same CD in  Bootcamp, then there is information about work around's - and running Bootcamp inside of Parallels? Yikes!
I have been told by the software manufacturer I need bootcamp to run 'Pool Studio' on a MAC- that I can't use Parallels- do you have any idea if running the bootcamp Virtural Machine inside of Parallels would act the same as a separate version of windows. Except possible eleveate the licence issue.
Its ****** to have to buy another windows licience to run one program.
Do you have any ideas? Thanks

Suggest that you take them up on their offer of a new battery.  Make sure you got the right one for your model MBP.

  • A clean install on my MacBook Pro has left my icons stuck on the right side of the desktop. I want to move them but there is no 'None' option which I think would free them to move where I wish. Suggestions?

A clean install on my MacBook Pro has left me with my icons stuck in the grid on the right side of my desktop. I had the ability to move them and have them stay put in various sectors of the desktop, which I found very useful.  The clean install upgraded the OS to 10.6.8 from 10.5.8. I want to move them again but there I see no 'None' option which I think would free them to move where I wish. Has the upgrade deleted that option? Suggestions? I am new to this community and if not new to Mac, I often feel that way. This is one of those times.

I have the same problem on the latest iTunes software and Windows 7. My window is maximzed and I do not see any tab for photos. Seems related to a recent update (IOS7?) as this was there - at least before the very big change to the interface.
