Question about IPod Gen 4

I have a new 4th Generation IPod touch and I can't seem to get the columns to sort in Itunes and I can't figure out what setting is not allowing me to delete songs off the device.
Please help me figure out what I am missing. I know it has to be a setting somewhere, but I can't find it.
Thanks so much.

You can delete songs directly off the iPod Touch when you are in a Playlist.
At the top of the playlist, click on the Edit button...
Then choose the songs you wish to delete from that playlist.
You can also delete an entire playlist from the iPod Touch in basically the same manner above except click on the Delete button.
However, the next time you Sync the device to your computer, these songs and playlists will probably be added back to the iPod Touch.

  • Question about iPod Notes

First of all, let me say that I'm not very 'techie' so if this is a stupid or naive question...please bear with me.
My question is about iPod notes. It says you can only put plain text files in the notes folder, and yet it does not display the note in plain text (I believe the display's font is Helvetica). It also wraps earlier than at 80 characters like a .txt file should.
So basically...the note never looks the same on TextEdit (or whatever) as it does when you view it to your iPod.
I have been making a few eBooks to read on my iPod and -- just to make them look neater -- I would like to do a few things like centering titles, adding dividing lines, etc.
So I was hoping somebody could tell me how to set TextEdit (or whatever) so that a note will look the same on it as it does when viewed on the iPod so that I can edit the file. --Like, what is the exact font and size of the text on the iPod display and where does it wrap exactly (I figure it must wrap according to the size of the window, since a variable number of characters can go on a line w/ non-equal-spaced type).
Also...I figure that the file I edit would have to be a .rtf since the display is not in plain text, yet it says you can only put plain text files in the iPod notes folder. So...I suppose I would have to convert the file from .rtf to .txt before putting it into my notes folder...or can you put rtf. files in there after all?
Anyways...any help anybody out there can give me with this will be greatly appreciated. Thanks very much!

It says you can only put plain text files in the notes folder, and yet it does not display the note in plain text (I believe the display's font is Helvetica).
Plain text means it does not have any special coding/characters in it such as Bold or Underscores or page breaks.
Plain text docs do not store anything except text. It does not specify a font. That is taken care of by whatever app you are using.
I suppose I would have to convert the file from .rtf to .txt before putting it into my notes folder...or can you put rtf. files in there after all?
You can put rtf in the Notes folder but the iPod will ignore any of the formatting.
You can use some html to format a bit as well as linking to other files/songs/photos.
Go here -> Guided by iPod and click on *iPod Notes Feature Guide* at teh bottom for a doc explaining the notes.
There are a few apps and web pages to put text docs into the correct size files.
Here's one -> http://www.ipod-notes.com/ (I haven't used it so no idea if it's any good or not).

  • Just a question about 3rd Gen Ipod

I recently bougtht a 3rd Gen Ipod off of ebay. I'm a PC user but it's formated for a MAC. I know I have to reformat it for windows so I can use it. But my question is, is there any way I can somehow get the songs off my I pod to my computer before I inevitually have to erase and reformat it. There is alot of good songs that came with it, I don't want to lose them if I can somehow avoid it.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
To access a Mac formatted iPod on a Windows PC, you need special third party software like Xplay or MacDrive.

  • Question about iPod nano 7 gen. distance calculations (without iPod+nike).

How do iPod nano 7 gen. calculate the distance i ran? (without iPod nike). Are those calculations are accurate? I'm a runner, so i need to know distance that i ran. Only distance, nothing more. Thank you

It actually goes back to the theory of accelerometer. It calculates the velocity and from the recorded time you ran, it will be able to calculate the distance.

  • I have a few questions about 5th gen ipod

My iPod has a very sluggish transfer rate for my music and I wanna connect it with the firewire cable I got with my old mini. When I do I get a message saying it's not supported on the ipod. Does anyone know if that is just me or if there is a firmware update.
Also I have both a iMac G4 flat panel and a Dell Inspiron 5100 laptop. I've had some video problems with my iMac(as you might have seen) and I am thinking of selling it on ebay, does anyone know how I can transfer the music from the mac to the windows laptop without networking or installing the ipod on the windows and transferring through that?
    Help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

The 5th Gen iPods do not support Firewire for data transfer. You can only charge via Firewire. This is not a firmware issue. There's no firewire controller in the 5th Gen iPod.
does anyone know how I can transfer the music from the mac to the windows laptop without networking or installing the ipod on the windows and transferring through that?
Your iMac probably has a CD-RW drive. If so, just burn the tracks as a Data/MP3 CD, and then import that CD into your iTunes library on the Windows machine. You can fit hundreds of tracks on a DATA/MP3 CD.

  • Question about iPod 4th Gen Diagnostic Mode

I am having a problem with my iPod. 4th Generation, 40GB Model A1059.
I am interested in what should be the expected results in two of the Diagnostic modes.
    HDD R/W; and
    HDD SCAN
In the Scan test mode, I get a "Pass" message and when I press "play" I go back to the diagnostic mode menu. So I guess this means I passed the HD Scan.
In the R/W test mode, I get a message that reads
    HDD Test
    38 GB
But pressing 'play' nothing happens, and it seems (feels and sounds)like the hard drive is still spinning.
So is the test still underway, or am I finished with the test when I see the "38 GB" message on the display?
I did a search of this site and the internet and really can't figure out what the anticipated result should be. It just won't let me search under "HDD R/W" It seems that the / is some kind of boolean conector that the search engine reads as something other than a ASCII character.
For anyone who may be interested in my problem, here it is:
It used to run forever with the Apple Logo. I put it away and came back to it recently hoping the problem would have magically gone away. Well it hasn't. Now the HDD just 'clicks' It goes something like 1,2,3,"click"... 1,2,3"click" until the file folder with an exclamation pint comes up.
Interestingly enough, the 1,2,3,"click"... 1,2,3"click" happens in the HD Scan Mode Test, but when I run the HDD R/W mode test the drive seems to spin freely without the 'click'

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

    Hi!
You can charge any iPod using your computer, buit you can also charge with an AC adaptor. Not all iPods come with the adaptor (my Nano didn't have one), but you can buy one here:

  • Questions about 2nd gen AppleTV

I have a 1st gen AppleTV and see no reason to upgrade.  However, after using youtube on the 1st gen, I'd like to know how well youtube and vimeo work on the 2nd gen.  On the 1st gen, if you watch several youtube videos, you have to back out (click menu button) of all those videos plus a few more clicks to get out of youtube before you are back at the main menu.  Does the 2nd gen work this way?
It is probably more youtube, but sometimes, buffering takes a while before a video will play.
I'm not sure how the 1st gen selects youtube video resolution (360, 480, 720, 1080).  Does any one know?   Does any one know how the 2nd gen selects youtube resolution?
How does the 2nd gen select between HD and regular resolution on Vimeo?
I do have a TV that can play 1080p but all of my iTunes videos max at 720p.  Is the 2nd gen still max resolution of 720p like the 1st gen?
    thanks.

You Tube is pretty much the same on both, including resolution, buffering is likely caused by your network or internet connection. I have no information about Vimeo, the Apple TV 2 can still only play 720p.

  • Question about Ipod/Printer Rebate

for anyone who used the student/teacher rebates on the ipod and printer, or anyone who purchased a macbook for that matter, do you guys remember a sales receipt that came with your macbook? how about the printer?
i am preparing to mail in my rebates and i need to include all the copies of the sales receipt. i do have the sales receipt for both the ipod and the printer which it came inside the shipping package, but i do not recall seeing one when the macbook/printer came. can someone verify this?
    thanks!

Did you pay with a credit card? Do you remember giving them a email address?
Because when I bought my macbook, I got a hard copy, and provided them with an email address, & they emailed me a copy of the receipt for the macbook.
I would suggest checking your email to see if they did email you a copy.
Or you could just go back to the apple store, the original purchase was made in.

  • Question About iPod Space

I have an 8GB iPod Touch.
It says I have only 7.27GB available. I assume that this is because of the applications etc. taking up space.
There's the "Other" section. What exactly is the Other and how do I minimize the amount of space it takes up?

You are correct the programs and settings take up some of the 8Gb and you can't actually use all 8Gb.
I know there is a disclaimer about it somewhere and basically it says that the 8Gb claim is only an approximation and so on.
The "Other" section is where things like the new apps would be stored.

  • Questions about ipod video

hi, im going to buy an ipod video, but i just need to be sure its good...i just have a question to every1 that had 1, is it good/worth buying?
and for how long can you watch movies on it till the batterie ends?

If you want a system that can hold all your CD's, listen to audiobooks on, download podcasts of the latest news, carry your family pictures and display them with music on a TV, and have the ability to watch your DVD's or downloaded movies on, then the video Ipod is right for you.
If you want a mp3 player that will NOT get scratched up if you stick it in your pocket, want a mp3 player that you can do extreme exercising with, or want to be able to load DVD's on it without taking the time to experiment and tweak the programs necessary to do it, the the video ipod is NOT for you.

  • Question about Ipod Setup On New Computer

Hi, the laptop that i had itunes on and stored all my music/playlists crashed, so i was thinking about setting up my ipod on another new computer. If I set it up and connect the ipod again, what will happen to my music library stored on my ipod. Will it be transfered to the new itunes on the new computer, or will the new itunes simply clear my ipod of all the songs that i have previousaly collected? thanks in advance

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
By default the new installation of iTunes will clear your iPod of all the songs. It seems to me you will need to get the songs on your iPod to your new computer.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Have you tried a hard reset of your iPod? Press and hold down the home and sleep/wake buttons until a red slider appears at the top of the lock screen. Sliding it will completely power off your iPod. Turn it back on and the problem should be resolved.
If it isn't, try here: http://forums.macrumors.com/archive/index.php/t-676606.html

  • I need help with a question about iPod Touch 5

I have a iPod touch, and I need to know, if I have the google app(or any app) open, and I hit the lock button, will it close the app?

yes, unless the app is intended to run in the background, like a music app maybe.  For those, you can turn them off from the app itself
