Question about iPod Touch iOS update 5.1.1

I'm debating whether or not this update is worth it considering the situation that I'm in. Currently, there are a LOT of albums that I downloaded from CD's. When I try to update, it says that it will completely wipe all of my media, apps, and their content so "make sure to perform the update on the computer that you sync with". Does this mean that I will lose all of my downloaded CD's, and have to re-download them?

- If you update via iTunes all the synced media like apps and music has to be in the iTunes library since the backup that iTunes makes as the first step of the update does not included synced media.
- If you already have iOS 5.X, you can update to 5.1.1 vi Settings>General>Software update and it only downloads the changes (not the entire firmware like an iTunes update) and nothing is lost.

I have an iPod 2nd generation iPod touch. Its been un-used for 2 years. When I plug it in to the computer it says theres an update availible. (It currently has ios 2.2.1) The update wont work, it says there is an unknown error. I have tried on three different computers and I have been through all of the online support. Nothing has worked. Any ideas of what i can do?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Have you tried a hard reset of your iPod? Press and hold down the home and sleep/wake buttons until a red slider appears at the top of the lock screen. Sliding it will completely power off your iPod. Turn it back on and the problem should be resolved.
If it isn't, try here: http://forums.macrumors.com/archive/index.php/t-676606.html
    Hope this helps!

  • I need help with a question about iPod Touch 5

I have a iPod touch, and I need to know, if I have the google app(or any app) open, and I hit the lock button, will it close the app?

yes, unless the app is intended to run in the background, like a music app maybe.  For those, you can turn them off from the app itself

Follow these instructions. When you restore from backup as the article says the iPod will also be updated.

If your iPod Touch is too old for iOS 5 or later... there is not much you can do.
When/if you get a later model iDevice you will be able to Download Past Purchases using the Original ID that made those Purchases. (providing they are still supported by the Developer)

  • I an suppose to update 2nd generarion ipode touch(ios 4.2.1) to 4.3

    hello...........
i am suppose to update my 2nd generation ipod touch(ios 4.2.1) to 4.3
and lot of games required 4.3 and above
    please give the solution.............soon................

You can't. The hardware on the 2G does not support an iOS higher than 4.2.1. You have to either:
    - Live with not being able to install a lot of newer apps/app updates
    - Purchase a newer model iPod

  • HT1353 can a generation 2 ipod touch be updated to 4.3 ios?

can a generation 2 ipod touch be updated to 4.3 ios?

no you need at least 3d generation for that, wich goes up to 5.1.1
iPod touch 4th and 5th generation both go up to iOS 6.1.3, wich is the (current) latest version.

  • Update iPod touch iOS 5.0

    Update iPod touch ios 5.0

Update it as described in this article; there isn't a Software Update option in General on iOS versions prior to 5.0. It can only be updated directly to the newest iOS release supported by the device’s hardware.
The maximum iOS version for the first generation iPod touch and original iPhone is 3.1.3.
The maximum iOS version for the second generation iPod touch and the iPhone 3G is 4.2.1.
The maximum iOS version for the third generation iPod touch and original iPad is 5.1.1.
The maximum iOS version for the fourth generation iPod touch and iPhone 3GS is 6.1.6.

  • My Ipod touch ios version 6.1.3 will not allow me to connect to my wifi, Please help me!!

My ipod touch ios version 6.1.3 will not allow me to connect to my wifi. I tried rebooting my wifi router, refreshing my ipod, resseting the networks and manually logging into my wifi. Sometimes it will go through for a brief moment, but the wifi connection will ultimately disconnect. Each time i try to connect to my wifi afterwards a small pop up will say "Unable to join the network". Please help. it's really annoying and frustrating.

Thank you Carolyn Samit, but nothing is working.
I've restored my ipod both to a backup and back to factory. I know the password is correct,
the router is the newest version (and it's plugged in and on), my ipod is updated, i've turned my wifi settings on and off, i've turned the ipod off and on. No luck yet. I've been working on it for hours now. About ready to sleep on it...maybe some luck will find me tomorrow...

  • IPod Touch iOS 5 on auto radio with USB

    Hi everyone,
Am I the only one to get problems on auto radios with the new iPod Touch iOS 5 ?
It had been working perfectly for 2 years on my LG LAC5900RIN (iPod Classic 5G then iPod Touch iOS 4) through USB port.
This auto radio is iPod compatible.
And now, since the recent update, my iPod is detected as "Connected" but the LCD of the auro radio displays something like "Track 10 - 2:55" and it's stuck on this...
    Someone have a solution ?
Did Apple receive bug reports about that ?
(If my English isn't perfect, it's because I'm French)
