Question about iTunes folder

I was going to copy iTunes onto my jump drive and I noticed a folder called "previous iTunes library" in my iTunes folder. What is this? Can I delete this?

You can delete it, but I wouldn't recommend it unless you have another backup of your old iTunes library files. iTunes makes this backup when you upgrade iTunes. If you decide to revert back to a previous version, you need the files in the "previous" folder.

  • A question about itunes

I had a question reguarding itunes. Here is my situation, my computer has two hard drives, C drive and D drive. My C drive is for Windows and a few programs, my D drive is for all my files, some programs, and my music. My C drive kicked the bucket the other day and I am ordering a new hard drive. I am worried about when I reinstall itunes onto this new drive what will happen. I do not want to loose what’s on my ipod or have to re-copy all of my music and videos, not to mention the tedious process of organizing things the way I like. All my music from itunes (along with the itunes program) were on my D drive, so I still have all of that. Is there a way I can just sort of throw everything into (when I reinstall itunes) the new itunes folder, by copy and pasting? Or is there anything else I can do?

Hello, "User", and welcome to the DIscussions.
Resellers often have to send in an activation for the card before it can be used. This is to prevent shoplifting, since many such resellers have their cards just hanging on an endcap or otherwise easy to grab. If activation is necessary, it takes time for the reseller's system to get that sent in to the iTunes Store, hence the instruction on waiting. If you try to redeem the card prior to the activation being sent and registered, redeeming the card will fail and could perhaps invalidate the card..
Best to wait as you've been advised.

  • General question about iTunes Match and multiple libraries

    Hello to everyone,
I have a general question about the iTunes Match service, which is available since yesterday in my country (Italy). Currently my library situation is the following:
Computer A (desktop, Windows 7): "big" iTunes library (about 20 GB), at the moment not associated with my Apple ID
Computer B (MacBook Air 2011): "small" iTunes library (about 5 GB), associated with my Apple ID
At the moment, both my iOS devices (iPhone 4 and iPad 2) are synchronized with the smaller library on the MacBook Air.
Question is as follows: should I subscribe to iTunes Match, would it be possible to upload the "big" library (provided I associate it with my Apple ID) to iCloud while keeping my devices synchronized with the "small" one?
Ideally, at the end of the day, the situation should be the following: both iOS devices with music from the small library + possibility of downloading songs from iCloud (coming from the big one). Is this possible?
Maybe the question sounds stupid, but I want to be sure about this before paying for the service.
    Thanks a lot.

Yes, you could also associate your larger library with iTunes match if you associated your Apple ID with it. However any purchases in the library made from another Apple ID will not be matched with iTunes much.
If both libraries are part of iTunes match, then all your devices will see all of the content from both libraries, which content you choose to have on those devices and which you have accessible via iTunes match is entirely up to you.

  • Question about iTunes on External HD

I currently have all of my iTunes music stored and external hard drive, however the way its currently configured (which is apparently the only way it can be configured, is that the "iTunes Library" file and the "iTunes Music Library.xml" file are both still located in the 'Users>Home>Music>iTunes' folder...
In playing around a little bit in an attempt to see if it were possible to also store these files on the external HD, I moved the two files to the same folder on the external HD that the "iTunes Music" folder on the HD is was (thereby removing them from the 'Users>Home>Music>iTunes'... folder), and then I created aliases of the two files and placed them back in the 'Users>Home>Music>iTunes' folder...
This was the only way I found that enabled me to store the files on the external HD along with the music...Is this safe to do? Does anyone have any comments regarding any advantages/disadvantages of setting up things this way?
Seems to me that if there are no obvious disadvantages of this setup, then the clear advantage would be that you have those files backed up on an external HD, which would not only ensure that if your computer became corrupt/crashes that you wouldn't lose all your playlists, ratings, play counts, etc...but also that if desired, you could simply take that hard drive to another computer and create the same aliases in the 'Users>Home>Music>iTunes' folder on that computer thereby allowing you access to the music and your playlists/settings from the alternate computer (whereas not copying those two files to the HD would simply allow you to transport your music, but not your playlists and other custom data)...
Isn't this right? Or is there some catch to this method? I'd love to get some confirmation one way or the other on this issue to give me a better piece of mind about the setup.

Yes, using aliases has been proven to work fine by
many users here. Often it is used to share a library
    among multiple computers.
I'd make sure to include the library files in a
regular backup routine, just in case of corruption
issues (they are just as likely on an external drive
    than on an internal one).
I'm trying to connect my iTunes Library to 4 Macs and based on the information you provided above, it might be done with an alias folder.
    Can you explain this further?
PS Our 4 Macs are on a LAN hub and on a 8x1 FW switcher and we'd like to share iTunes among them all. The FireWire switcher will work, but it's precarious to hot switch. The LAN lines seem a better option.

  • Need help: question about itunes update problem

I started up iTunes yesterday and a window popped up saying there was a new version of iTunes to update, so I did it, and now I can't save equalizer presets! The feature doesn't work at all anymore, and it used to work great. It just goes back to Manual every time, and just won't save anything you put in. This really frustrates me, as it was one of my fave things about iTunes. Can anybody tell me what happened? Can I fix it or go back to my old version without losing my library?
    Cheers

How do I make sure I don't lose my library? if i uninstall and then re-install an older version (which I have on disc), how do I make sure my library comes with me?

If you notice, the title is "Moving your iTunes media folder", not "moving your iTunes folder".
Yes, the simplest way is to quit iTunes, move the entire /Music/iTunes/ folder.
    Hold Option and launc iTunes.
Select Choose library and select the iTunes folder on the external.

  • This is a question about iTunes version 10.5

    Hello,
I am running iTunes on several Mac computers (ppc and intel) with version 10.4, as well as my iPhone/iPad.  I am being frequently prompted on the computers to upgrade from version 10.4 to 10.5.
However, I do NOT want to use iCloud to store or sync any music.  Each of my machines has their own iTunes library, and I am not interested in sharing.  So, my question is:  If I upgrade from 10.4 to 10.5, will I be required to use iCloud?  Is there a way that I can run 10.5 but NOT perform any music sharing with my other computers, iPhone or iPad?
I use Mobile Me frequently.  I have not upgraded to iCloud for any other sharing functions.
I realize that once I upgrade iTunes to 10.5 - I probably cannot go back to 10.4.  So, I need a clear answer about the above concern before I attempt any upgrade.
    Thank you,
    Dale

iCloud signup and use is completely optional. You don't even need to open an iCloud account to run iTunes 10.5 or any of your devices, nor use iCloud if you have an account. I have iTunes 10.5 and do have an iCloud account, but I don't use it for anything other than the Find My iPad service.
    Regards.

  • Questions about iTunes Match before subscribing

I'm thinking about signing up for iTunes Match so that I can access my music on my Apple TV without my MacBook Pro being on. I have 1,575 songs in my library and 1,275 of the are purchased from the iTunes store. Will iTunes, match all the songs inlcuding the ones I purchased or the 300 that I ripped off a CD? Also since the songs will be matched that means I can download them from any device right? Will I also be able to delete the orginial files off my computer and then download the ones that were matched? My last question is after one year and I don't re-subscribe will I still be able to keep the matched songs? Someone please help me with these questions so that I can subrscribe as soon as possible. Thank you

A search of the forum would have turned up these answers for you.
Most songs that you have purchased from the iTunes store will be identified as "purchased." Only songs that are imported into iTunes from other sources such as CD or Amazon's service are eligible to be "matched" or "uploaded." Any imported songs that are not "matched" will be "uploaded." But do not expect 100% accuracy at any rate. When you download "purchased" songs to your library, or another computer, or an iDevice you are getting the same song you already have. When you download "matched" songs you are getting the version from the iTunes store, and "uploaded" songs are obviously the same songs that are already in your iTunes library.
For imported songs that are "matched" that you might download they are yours to keep. If you choose not to renew your iTunes Match subscription nothing at all will happen to the songs that you downloaded from the store.
However, if your primary purpose is to upgraded existing music you might be disappointed in the results.

  • Question about documents folder in the "stacks"

Hey everyone. Here is my question.....In my documents folder that is in the stacks section there is one labeled iChats (Which of course stores my iChat conversations)
I would like to know if I can remove it from stacks but leave it on my hard drive? Basically, does everything I put in my documents folder in the HD show up in the stacks documents folder? Is there another place where I can put some of these items that I do not want to appear in the stacks?
    Thanks,
    Steve

Not that one, if you want iChat to save the chats

  • Question about "library" folder

Sorry if this is dumb question, just got the computer yesterday. Anyway, I was snooping around in the library folder and I deleted some things in an attempt to free up some space, however I think that the things I deleted may have been important. I deleted "LaunchAgents", "Perl", "Python", and "Ruby". Can someone please shed some insight as to what these folders were for, and if they were important, how can I get them back.
    Thank you

Everything in the System and Library folders are important for the system - you should never delete anything from them. In fact, you're asked for an admin password before you can delete them, for a good reason. You should do an Archive and Install of your system (or a Time Machine restore, if you have one) to get back to a good working system, otherwise you're liable to experience crashes and system failures.
Likewise, you shouldn't delete anything in your home folder's Library folder unless you understand what it is and know what the consequences are.

  • A question about iTunes library access.

I just got a MacBook Air, having used iTunes for years on iPods, iPhones and an Ipod but originally on my WIndows PC which I still use as my main machine. inlcuding putting CDs onto iTunes. I have around 300 albums on there.
I cannot view my iTunes library on my Macbook although I have authorised it. I have unauthorised all 5 devices and authorised each one again, but still on my Macbook my iTunes library is empty apart from 4 tracks I bought directly on iTunes.
    Suggestions gratefully received!

The .exe files are the application files.  your Mac will have hte mac version.
    Look at this article.
Where are my iTunes files located? - http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1391
Copy the whole folder, complete, to the equivalent location on the Mac (as also indicated in the article).  iTunes will then start up with your old library.

  • Quick beginner question about Applications folder

I have a really simple basic question: Can I organize my computer's applications folder anyway I want? I don't want to move anything out of the apps folder but I do want to group my apps by a few different categories using folders. I don't see why this would be a problem but I wanted to be sure before I fouled anything up. (Time Machine will be nice).

Create an Applications folder in your home folder and fill it with aliases to the real applications. You can organise these into sub-folders as you wish, without affecting the real applications. Moving the real applications can make updates fail. Different users can have different arrangements of applications.

  • Question about this folder ....

What is this folder ? C:\Users\**\Pictures\Wallpapers\iPod Photo Cache
Is folder contains all the pictures I ever took with my iphone (even deleted ones) ?
Also how can I view files that end with *.ithmb ?
    Thanks

    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1314
When transferring photos from your computer to your iPhone via the iTunes sync process, the photos are optimized for viewing on your iPhone, which is what the iPod Photo Cache stores. If you delete the iPad Photo Cache for a folder of photos that has been selected to be transferred to your iPhone and the folder remains selected, the photos will be optimized again and another iPod Photo Cache will be created.

  • Quick and easy question about creating folder

Total Mac newbie with basic question.
I want to put all my user manuals right on my desktop. All in a folder called user manuals. How would I do this? Smart folder? Just drag 'n drop? how can I quickly find them all?
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi MarieBoyer
You can easily create a Folder on the desktop, by mouse click + contol to open the contextual menu, where you can choose New Folder, then give it a name.
Or, more easily still just drag one of the existing folders onto the desktop and use it.
As for finding all manual documents, they are just documents in general, and may not even have the word manual in their name, so searching by that criteria will in that case miss them. Otherwise you may have to search by each of their names, which would be rather tedious.
So I suggest, of the manuals that you know of or come across, drag them into your new Folder on the desktop as you find them.

  • Question about Itunes account and gift cards

My question is that if I log into my itunes account on a different computer than i usully use, can I access it later on my normal computer, or do I have to reedem it on the same computer that I originally put the gift card on? please help!

You can log into the store on any PC that has iTunes installed and see your balance.
You do realize though, if you download something on that PC you will need to copy it over to your normal PC? Such as byusing a memory stick or your iPod put into manual mode.
You only get one download. You can't re-download things to multiple PCs.
