Question about iTunes HD movies

I was looking into some of iTunes HD movies that are available for purchase when I noticed something... It says that these movies would be compatible with an Apple TV or Mac, or PC. Now I know this doesn't necessarily mean these will be full HD (1080p), but it would make sense if they were.
I've attempted to play a some 900p and 1080p videos on my Pad and it straight up refuses them. Is it at all possible for me to buy an HD movie off of iTunes, only to have it not work because the resolution is too high for my Pad? Can iTunes know which device I plan on using the movie on before I purchase it? Or will he provide me with multiple vid-files, one for each resolution of iPod, iPad, and computer?
Also I noticed that the "iTunes Extras" are only available on a Mac or PC with iTunes 9 or later. This means the iPad can play the movie itself, nothing else like commentaries or "the making of", correct?

No the problem with your AVI is the codec it uses not the video dimensions. The other day I needed to view an h.264 1080p 15MBps with a 4.0 profile on the iPad. GoodReader played the file just fine. If I'm only going to view a video on the iPad that exceeds the iPad specs but it can be played in a third party app, why spend the time to re-encode to the iPad specs. Re-encoding a video not only waste time but the video suffers in lost of quality during the encoding. Besides I'm not using the iPad for video storage. I'm using it to play videos.

  • General question about iTunes Match and multiple libraries

    Hello to everyone,
    I have a general question about the iTunes Match service, which is available since yesterday in my country (Italy). Currently my library situation is the following:
    Computer A (desktop, Windows 7): "big" iTunes library (about 20 GB), at the moment not associated with my Apple ID
    Computer B (MacBook Air 2011): "small" iTunes library (about 5 GB), associated with my Apple ID
    At the moment, both my iOS devices (iPhone 4 and iPad 2) are synchronized with the smaller library on the MacBook Air.
    Question is as follows: should I subscribe to iTunes Match, would it be possible to upload the "big" library (provided I associate it with my Apple ID) to iCloud while keeping my devices synchronized with the "small" one?
    Ideally, at the end of the day, the situation should be the following: both iOS devices with music from the small library + possibility of downloading songs from iCloud (coming from the big one). Is this possible?
    Maybe the question sounds stupid, but I want to be sure about this before paying for the service.
    Thanks a lot.

    Yes, you could also associate your larger library with iTunes match if you associated your Apple ID with it. However any purchases in the library made from another Apple ID will not be matched with iTunes much.
    If both libraries are part of iTunes match, then all your devices will see all of the content from both libraries, which content you choose to have on those devices and which you have accessible via iTunes match is entirely up to you.

  • A question about itunes

    I had a question reguarding itunes. Here is my situation, my computer has two hard drives, C drive and D drive. My C drive is for Windows and a few programs, my D drive is for all my files, some programs, and my music. My C drive kicked the bucket the other day and I am ordering a new hard drive. I am worried about when I reinstall itunes onto this new drive what will happen. I do not want to loose what’s on my ipod or have to re-copy all of my music and videos, not to mention the tedious process of organizing things the way I like. All my music from itunes (along with the itunes program) were on my D drive, so I still have all of that. Is there a way I can just sort of throw everything into (when I reinstall itunes) the new itunes folder, by copy and pasting? Or is there anything else I can do?

    Hello, "User", and welcome to the DIscussions.
    Resellers often have to send in an activation for the card before it can be used. This is to prevent shoplifting, since many such resellers have their cards just hanging on an endcap or otherwise easy to grab. If activation is necessary, it takes time for the reseller's system to get that sent in to the iTunes Store, hence the instruction on waiting. If you try to redeem the card prior to the activation being sent and registered, redeeming the card will fail and could perhaps invalidate the card..
    Best to wait as you've been advised.

  • Need help: question about itunes update problem

    I started up iTunes yesterday and a window popped up saying there was a new version of iTunes to update, so I did it, and now I can't save equalizer presets! The feature doesn't work at all anymore, and it used to work great. It just goes back to Manual every time, and just won't save anything you put in. This really frustrates me, as it was one of my fave things about iTunes. Can anybody tell me what happened? Can I fix it or go back to my old version without losing my library?
    Cheers

    How do I make sure I don't lose my library? if i uninstall and then re-install an older version (which I have on disc), how do I make sure my library comes with me?

  • This is a question about iTunes version 10.5

    Hello,
    I am running iTunes on several Mac computers (ppc and intel) with version 10.4, as well as my iPhone/iPad.  I am being frequently prompted on the computers to upgrade from version 10.4 to 10.5.
    However, I do NOT want to use iCloud to store or sync any music.  Each of my machines has their own iTunes library, and I am not interested in sharing.  So, my question is:  If I upgrade from 10.4 to 10.5, will I be required to use iCloud?  Is there a way that I can run 10.5 but NOT perform any music sharing with my other computers, iPhone or iPad?
    I use Mobile Me frequently.  I have not upgraded to iCloud for any other sharing functions.
    I realize that once I upgrade iTunes to 10.5 - I probably cannot go back to 10.4.  So, I need a clear answer about the above concern before I attempt any upgrade.
    Thank you,
    Dale

    iCloud signup and use is completely optional. You don't even need to open an iCloud account to run iTunes 10.5 or any of your devices, nor use iCloud if you have an account. I have iTunes 10.5 and do have an iCloud account, but I don't use it for anything other than the Find My iPad service.
    Regards.

  • Question about uploading videos/movies

    hi guys and gals
    i just recently bought a 30GB ipod video for my little cousin and he asked me a question that i do not have an answer to.
    he knows how to upload music from his itunes to his ipod (drag music into the ipod icon) but he can't figure out how to upload movies/videos.
    i know that the format of the video has to be quicktime or something that is compatible with mac. he uses windows and i believe his videos are AVI or some weird nonesense.
    can you please, in easy steps, tell me how to upload videos into the ipod? thanks!

    Upload videos same way you do songs-just drag them over if you haven't enabled autoupdate.
    Videos have to be in a specific format, found under iPod tech specs on apple website.
    Here:
    H.264 video: up to 768 Kbps, 320 x 240, 30 frames per sec., Baseline Profile up to Level 1.3 with AAC-LC up to 160 Kbps, 48 Khz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4 and .mov file formats
    MPEG-4 video: up to 2.5 mbps, 480 x 480, 30 frames per sec., Simple Profile with AAC-LC up to 160 Kbps, 48 Khz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4 and .mov file formats

  • Questions about iTunes Match before subscribing

    I'm thinking about signing up for iTunes Match so that I can access my music on my Apple TV without my MacBook Pro being on. I have 1,575 songs in my library and 1,275 of the are purchased from the iTunes store. Will iTunes, match all the songs inlcuding the ones I purchased or the 300 that I ripped off a CD? Also since the songs will be matched that means I can download them from any device right? Will I also be able to delete the orginial files off my computer and then download the ones that were matched? My last question is after one year and I don't re-subscribe will I still be able to keep the matched songs? Someone please help me with these questions so that I can subrscribe as soon as possible. Thank you

    A search of the forum would have turned up these answers for you.
    Most songs that you have purchased from the iTunes store will be identified as "purchased." Only songs that are imported into iTunes from other sources such as CD or Amazon's service are eligible to be "matched" or "uploaded." Any imported songs that are not "matched" will be "uploaded." But do not expect 100% accuracy at any rate. When you download "purchased" songs to your library, or another computer, or an iDevice you are getting the same song you already have. When you download "matched" songs you are getting the version from the iTunes store, and "uploaded" songs are obviously the same songs that are already in your iTunes library.
    For imported songs that are "matched" that you might download they are yours to keep. If you choose not to renew your iTunes Match subscription nothing at all will happen to the songs that you downloaded from the store.
    However, if your primary purpose is to upgraded existing music you might be disappointed in the results.

  • Question about getting rented movie from Macbook to Tv

    I rented a movie on my MB yesterday while on the road, today I decided to watch the end of the movie on my tv at home.
    TV:
    setting>computer>add shared itunes Lib>Entered the code on my MB
    My MB itunes is showing on TV but can't find the rented movie??/
    Clicked on TV in itunes, I get only 2 tabs, Summary and Photos. Under Summary I am missing Automatic Sync or Custom Sync and no Rented Movie frame. No option to choose what movie, music, podcast etc.. I want to sync . Looks completely different that what I obtain on my G5????
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks
    F

    Yep - only one at a time. You can stream from more than one though. I have a primary Library that I use for syncing (I only sync photos and all the other content shows up automatically under "My Music, My Movies etc").

  • Question about scrolling and Movie Clips Loaded from the Library

    I hope I am posting this in the right forum.
    Ok, I'm using actionscript 2.0, and I am trying to make a scrolling image gallery. I have a movie clip with three layers. the first contains a movie clip used as a scroll bar. The second is a mask used to hide the overflow content, and the third contains movie clip thumbnails. when I click one of the thumbnails, it loads a symbol containing a larger version of the picture over top of the thumbnails on the same layer. My problem is, the large image is added at the very top of the movie clip, even when it is scrolled out of sight. I want it to appear in sight, so the user doesn't have to scroll all the way back up to the top to see it. This is annoying and confusing. Is there a way to do this?
    Here is the code I used to create the scroll effect (there is actually a whole lot more to the code but it is very long, so I am not adding it now. I will if it is needed though)
    (Oh, and there is no text involved in this. I just got this code off a tutorial and I haven't changed the variable names yet)
        var scrollUpper:Number = 58;
        var scrollLower:Number = 309;
        var textLower:Number = 60;
        var textUpper:Number = -179;
        var scrollRange:Number = scrollLower - scrollUpper;
        var textRange:Number = textLower - textUpper;
        var startY:Number = imagesHolder_mc.thumbs_mc._y;
        function scroll(){
           var moved:Number = imagesHolder_mc.scroller_mc._y - scrollUpper;
           var pctMoved:Number = moved/scrollRange;
           var textMove:Number = pctMoved*textRange;
           imagesHolder_mc.thumbs_mc._y = textLower - textMove;
        imagesHolder_mc.scroller_mc.onPress = function(){
           this.startDrag(false,this._x,scrollUpper,this._x,scrollLower);
           this.onMouseMove = scroll;
        imagesHolder_mc.scroller_mc.onRelease = scroller_mc.onReleaseOutside = function(){
           this.stopDrag();
           this.onMouseMove = null}

    Thanks for your reply. I'll try to explain it better. I have a long, vertically scrolling movie clip. This movie clip contains lots of thumbnails. When I click a thumbnail, the full sized image is loaded from the library and displayed within the same movie clip. when I click the full size movie clip, it disappears again, and I can click another thumbnail to display another full size image. So I'm not just adding more and more stuff to the gallery if that's what you were thinking. I'm just clicking thumbnails to display the full size image so I can look at it, closing it, and moving on.
    But the full sized image is fixed at the very top of the scrolling movie clip, so if I click a thumbnail at the very bottom, I have to scroll all the way back up to the top to see the full size image. I just want the full size image to appear on screen no matter how far down I have scrolled to click a thumbnail.
    I made my basic gallery useing this tutorial:
    http://flashexplained.com/actionscript/making-the-ultimate-dynamic-image-gallery-in-flash- 8/
    if you want to take a look at that, to get an idea of what I'm talking about.
    Now I'm just trying to add some scrolling functionality, which wasn't included, but I don't really understand actionscript well enough to do this easily on my own.
    Sorry for the long reply. I hope this is clearer.

  • Question About itunes

    Why is it that it is only the US itunes store that can purchase movies/musicvidoes ? When will this become available for people in Europe??

    This is not an Apple decision alone - it is subject to agreements with TV networks, film distributors, etc. These have to be negotiated on a country-by-country, or bloc-by-bloc, basis.

  • Question about iTunes syncing

    Hi, how do I sync only 1 movie from my itunes, onto a friends ipod? i need to know how to do this so when i press sync all my music and other movies dont go on my friends ipod, just the video i want.

    how do i put my friends ipod into manual mode??? and will doing that make it so when i plug it in and press sync only the movies i want go on it and none of my music?
    Ipod's normally expect to be connected to one library. You can choose whether content is managed automatically or manually by selecting the appropriate options in the iPod Summary tab while your iPod is connected. When you plug an iPod into a "foriegn" computer (in other words your friend's iPod into your computer) you should recieve a message like this:-
    The iPod "iPod" is synced with another iTunes library. Do you want to erase this iPod and sync with this iTunes library?
    An iPod can be synced with only one iTunes library at a time. Erasing and syncing replaces the contents of this iPod with the contents of this iTunes library.
    At this stage you must click cancel or iTunes will start overwriting the files on your friend's iPod. Find the Summary tab for the iPod and make sure "Manually manage music..." is selected. At this point you should be able to manually drag selected files from your iTunes library to the iPod. When managing music & videos in this fashion you don't use the sync function. For more info. see Managing content manually on iPod. As I mentioned earlier, any files you add in this way will be removed next time your friend syncs with their own library unless they normally manage their files manually. If your aim is to give your friend a copy of the video (which as stressed earlier you must have appropriate permission to do) it might be easier to transfer the file onto the storage area of the iPod so that they can transfer it on to their own computer and then import into their own iTunes library.

  • Question about iTunes on External HD

    I currently have all of my iTunes music stored and external hard drive, however the way its currently configured (which is apparently the only way it can be configured, is that the "iTunes Library" file and the "iTunes Music Library.xml" file are both still located in the 'Users>Home>Music>iTunes' folder...
    In playing around a little bit in an attempt to see if it were possible to also store these files on the external HD, I moved the two files to the same folder on the external HD that the "iTunes Music" folder on the HD is was (thereby removing them from the 'Users>Home>Music>iTunes'... folder), and then I created aliases of the two files and placed them back in the 'Users>Home>Music>iTunes' folder...
    This was the only way I found that enabled me to store the files on the external HD along with the music...Is this safe to do? Does anyone have any comments regarding any advantages/disadvantages of setting up things this way?
    Seems to me that if there are no obvious disadvantages of this setup, then the clear advantage would be that you have those files backed up on an external HD, which would not only ensure that if your computer became corrupt/crashes that you wouldn't lose all your playlists, ratings, play counts, etc...but also that if desired, you could simply take that hard drive to another computer and create the same aliases in the 'Users>Home>Music>iTunes' folder on that computer thereby allowing you access to the music and your playlists/settings from the alternate computer (whereas not copying those two files to the HD would simply allow you to transport your music, but not your playlists and other custom data)...
    Isn't this right? Or is there some catch to this method? I'd love to get some confirmation one way or the other on this issue to give me a better piece of mind about the setup.

    Yes, using aliases has been proven to work fine by
    many users here. Often it is used to share a library
    among multiple computers.
    I'd make sure to include the library files in a
    regular backup routine, just in case of corruption
    issues (they are just as likely on an external drive
    than on an internal one).
    I'm trying to connect my iTunes Library to 4 Macs and based on the information you provided above, it might be done with an alias folder.
    Can you explain this further?
    PS Our 4 Macs are on a LAN hub and on a 8x1 FW switcher and we'd like to share iTunes among them all. The FireWire switcher will work, but it's precarious to hot switch. The LAN lines seem a better option.

  • Dumb Question about iTunes Music Store

    Hey all...
    Did iTunes Music Store just go all Rental or am I missing something? I bought some movies from iTunes but now it looks like they all went rental.
    Thx..
    JG

    Yes and No. You can still purchase movies the same way you have in the past if they are of a certain movie label. However most of the movie labels have only approved their movies to be rented, not purchased on the iTunes Store.

  • Question about Itunes account and gift cards

    My question is that if I log into my itunes account on a different computer than i usully use, can I access it later on my normal computer, or do I have to reedem it on the same computer that I originally put the gift card on? please help!

    You can log into the store on any PC that has iTunes installed and see your balance.
    You do realize though, if you download something on that PC you will need to copy it over to your normal PC? Such as byusing a memory stick or your iPod put into manual mode.
    You only get one download. You can't re-download things to multiple PCs.

  • Another IT question about iTunes...

    When I plug my IT into my MB and I open iTunes, the option to “Open iTunes when this iPod is connected” is greyed out.
    The other two options, “Sync only checked songs and videos” and “Manually manage music and videos” are available to be checked.
    Anyone know how I can get the greyed out “Open iTunes...” to become optional again?
    Another note. Besides my IT, I just bought an IP. When I go into iTunes and authorize either the IT or the IP, I get a message saying that I have authorized one unit out of 5 even though I have authorized both the IT and the IP. Is this normal?

    Hi Macaby,
    If you have turned off automatic syncing you will not be able to have the option to Open iTunes when plugging in the iPod. I suggest that you send feedback to Apple about this as it may be a bug in iTunes or the behaviour of iTunes that needs to be improved.
    You don't need to authorize your iPods to play music that you have downloaded from iTunes, you only need to authorize the computer that you are using.
    Hope this helps
    J.C
