Question about layering text over an image

Hi -- I am trying to place a layer of text over a ghosted image that I've imported into ID from Photoshop. By "ghosted" I mean that the image has a layer of white fill over it that has been set at 50% opacity. ID won't let text be layered on top of the imported image, no matter how many different ways I've tried to accomplish this. It will allow another image to be layered on top, but not text. If I place a text frame over the ghosted image and type even one letter, the red text overset warning icon appears.
I tried applying the text in Photoshop and that works just fine until the file gets imported into ID, at which point the text looks terrible, having become somehow degraded in transit. I am fairly new to ID and PS, and would appreciate any helpful input.

Sounds like text wrap is applied to either the image or the frame above it, or both. Eihter turn it off if you don't need it for other reasons, or for the frame you want to use on top of it open the Text Frame Options and check the Ignore Text Wrap box in the lower left corner.

Layers or APDivs won't work in FluidGrid Layouts. You'll need to drop the image into your container's background with CSS. Or use Photoshop to apply text directly to your graphic.

I wasn't able to (easily) find anything in the way of a textfield to type something into that you describe, but you can assign code for input textfields to detect when something changes in them and take action from that event. How you do it depends on which version of actionscript you are using.

The LDAP Path comes first in the list of CRL locations in the CDP extension followed by the URL location.<o:p></o:p>

I am OK on the Windows side of things but we also have a UNIX/Linux environment (like most companies) that also utilize certificates issued by the MS CA’s therefore their respective UG will

I have two questions about my podcast on iTunes - Image and Author

Hello. I have very recently added my podcast to iTunes, by submitting the RSS-feed that is given by wordpress (that's where I have my podcast homepage) It looks allright, and the feed includes Name of podcast, title of podcast shows, description and in some cases even length of the podcasts. There's two things not showing though, and that's an image for the iTunes page, and the name of the authors.
I'm not sure if you're allowed to link to your feed like this, but here is however the feed that I've sent to iTunes: http://rodrost.wordpress.com/category/podcast/feed/ . I thought that the picture up in the right (of me and a friend) would be the picture showing up on iTunes. And I don't understand where in my feed to put in the authors. If you could answer my questions I would be very grateful, thank you.

Posting your feed URL is not only allowed, it's necessary to get answers to most questions, so thank you for posting it.
You are missing some necessary entries in your feed. The second line of your feed should include the 'iTues declaration':
xmlns:itunes="http://www.itunes.com/dtds/podcast-1.0.dtd" version="2.0"
which should be added within the 'rss' tag. Without this iTunes cannot read the 'itunes:...' tags which are in any case missing. The image is carried in the 'itunes:image' tag and your name in the 'itunes:author' tag, and there are other tags which carry information - your podcast is working without them but some information is as you see missing.

I can't advise on Wordpress: it seems likely that you need the PodPress plugin to get this to work properly, but I'm not sure whether you can do it without.

Question about creating a bootable disk image in Leopard.

I have a Powerbook G4 that originally came with OS9, I upgraded to Tiger and recently upgraded to Leopard. The computer is running great but if it should go down what are my bootable options?
1) Boot from the install disk set then load tiger upgrade then load Leopard upgrade? then reload all my programs back on the G4?
2) Can I create a bootable disk image and save it on an external hard drive and then boot and reload everything at once? ( I guess by asking this question I really don't understand what the full scope of a bootable disk image is?) can someone explain...
Which option is better? I am also running __time machine__... what is the safest and easiest way to use time machine to get my software back together after I get the operating system up and running.

Your best alternative is to create a bootable clone on an external Firewire drive.
How to Clone Using Restore Option of Disk Utility
1. Open Disk Utility from the Utilities folder.
2. Select the backup or destination volume from the left side list.
3. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (journaled, if available) and click on the Erase button. This step can be skipped if the destination has already been freshly erased.
4. Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
5. Select the backup or destination volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
6. Select the startup or source volume from the left side list and drag it to the Source entry field.
7. Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.

How do I place translucent text over an image in InDesign?

I have placed text on top of an image and am trying to make it look translucent. However, when I select the text box, go to Object > Effects > Transparency, select Text and reduce opacity to 70% and hit OK, it does reduce the transparency of the text but also appears to raise the brightness of the image underneath. I've also tried putting the text in a separate layer from the image but it still happens. How can I make it so that just the text changes? Thanks in advance.

Which version of InDesign are you seeing this issue in danni95?
I can't replicate the issue in InDesign CC (2014.1 Release).
However, am thinking what you are seeing is related to the display of transparency. If the InDesign document were to be converted to PDF v1.3 (Acrobat 4 compatibility) or EPS, the text will be outlined, and the text frame area will become a rasterized region.
There's a couple of things you could do to check all is OK, and things are merely a display issue.
Open up the Effects panel (Window > Effects) and ensure that the 70% opacity on Text is the only setting applied. No other Effects, Blending Modes or Opacity settings applied elsewhere?
View the document with Overprint Preview enabled (View > Overprint Preview). Do you still see the issue? If it disappears, I'd not be too concerned with the issue, as in final output things will be OK.
Thirdly you can try using the Flattener Preview panel (Window > Output > Flattener Preview), to further isolate the issue.

How to add watermark text over an image

I add a watermark text in the corner of all my images in photoshop before putting them on the web. I use a text layer, emboss it, blur it, choose hard light and position it.
I am new to Lightroom. I am using an Intel iMac with up to date lightroom. Is there any way I can have some sort of preset in lightroom which will add this watermark to images in lightroom? I have the image saved as a separate document so technically all I would need to do is tell lightroom to apply this image to the selected photos.
Is this possible?

Alex, I do something similar to what you want to do, we use the Web module to create a flash slide show for proofs on a CD. Export all the images, sized for web use to a folder. Do a Photoshop action that adds your watermark. Re-import the finished files, go to Web module & upload. You should look into Mogrify, as it will add whatever watermark image, or text you want to, and has an "upload to an FTP server after export" function. I have not used this, as we don't upload to a studio website.

Question about colored text in non-applet/application programs

I'm a high school student and a beginner in programming in Java. Right now I am working on a game of Checkers program and I was wondering if there was anyway to set colors to certain text strings in System.out.print/println statements.

Basic Question about Outlining Text

I have PS CS5
I am trying to get a crisp outline to my text. I am using the Outer Glow and tweaking the settings but the exterior edge of my outline "layer" is way to soft and more like a faint feather technique.
How do I get a very hard and crisp outer edge / outline to my text? Can you point me to a simple tutorial on this?

Four other things that make a difference:
1. The font (some fonts are not smooth and the stroke will not be smooth or crisp)
2. Using an inside stroke usually gets a sharper stroke.
3. In the tool options bar check that aa (ANTI-ALIAS) is set to someting other than none.
4. View the text at 100% view (actual pixels) view %'s like 31.3 and so on can make
the text or images appear pixelated.

You'll need an external editor for work like that.

There are many, many other options. Search on MacUpdate. You can set Photoshop (or any image editor) as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> General -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Photoshop or your Image Editor, and when you save it it's sent back to iPhoto automatically. This is the only way that edits made in another application will be displayed in iPhoto.

Question about Layers

Hello community. I would like to know if an image size incereses when you add layers to it? Theoretically, I would think so because you are adding to it to make changes, but I am unsure. When saving an image for the web, does Photoshop save just the current layer or all layers used?

is it wise to add an adjustment layer instead of a new layer to keep the file size down or are adjustment layers for just color changes?
I use Adjustment Layers (and Save as PSD) to keep the ediaibility as high as I can. I want non-destructive editing, anywhere I can get it. Adjustment Layers offers me that capability. That is why I use them, and not for any file size considerations. I take care of that, when I do a Save_As for delivery to the client.
For file size savings, consider converting all Alpha Channels to Paths. The mathematical calculations take up less room, than the full Alpha Channels. If you have done all the work on some Layers (and you are danged sure that you are done!), you can Merge those. I'd urge you to NOT do that, unless you have slept on it for a night - or two. Little is worse than that call from the client, requiring some minor change, when you have already Merged those Layers. Been there - done that. It hurts like heck, 'cause I cannot ethically charge them for "lost work," as it was my choice.
If file size is an issue, while you are still editing, get more internal, or external, storage. Images can be large, especially when we use Layers. Actually, considering what I bill per hour, a spanking new 1TB HDD is cheaper than having to go back a day, or two, and reconstruct, just because I did not have the HDD real estate to do a Save in full glory. I also advocate incremental Save_As, when working. Even doing screen-cap work for posting to the fora, I will always do a Save_As .PSD, and then Flatten to JPG for posting. No telling when I'll need to go back to the Layered version and annotate differently, or add things.

When I used RTMP channel to retrieve data from the server, everything works fine, however when I tried to use RTMPS channel, I got following error:

the CodeModel is the model I created by using the modler under Flash Builder4, and it simply include one table called Code. I can retrieve data, update and delete data with this model over RTMP channel, but not over RTMPS channel.

The problem is solved. The error message is due to the default channel was set to RTMP in my data-management-config.xml file. That's why modifing the application level default channel does not work. After I changed it to RTMPS, it worked.
One more thing to make sure though, if I want to use both of the RTMP channel and RTMPS channel in my app (not for fail over) , I have to create at least two models right? Also do I need to change the default channel in data-management-config.xml if the model I am about to deploy expects different channel than previous models?

Question about editing text for Acrobat 9 pro...

I recently switched to Vista and Acrobat 9 pro and everytime I go to edit my PDF I use the "text touch-up" tool just like I should yet the tool just shifts and distorts the text without actually replacing or deleting any of the text. Has anyone encountered/know how to fix this problem? Thank You.

Such problems are not new with AA9. Editing has always been hit and miss. It may be that if you tried to edit one of the files you used to work on, things would work fine and it is simply the particular file at hand. I will not deny that there may be changes to the methods in AA9 that make things worse, but it never was great.

Question about the text datatype in SQL server 2008 r2

How do I read/write this datatype to/from the database using C#? (visual studio 2010) I am not sure how to handle it.

Go to Tools/Designers and uncheck this option (see the image). Also, instead of executing the change right away, click on the script option and examine the proposed change. SSMS often makes changes script more difficult than it needs to be.
