Question about LCD screen on Satellite A500-1F4

Hi everyone.
I am planning to purchase new laptop and I've seen the specs of Satellite A500-1 F4 and Satellite L505-13W. I like the 16" screen in A500 but there is one thing not clear, what do they mean about truebright display? Compared to L505, it has HD LED display.
Also, what is much better video card? NVIDIA GE force or the ATI Radeon? Both the A500 and L505 have the same 1GB video card capacity, the difference in the brand.
Thank you.

You see, it's like with Cpu from Intel and Amd. Some users say that Intel is better, when others are Amd.

Please if anyone can help me with this.
Does Satellite A500-1f4 have 3G modem (3G support)? because the sim card slot is wider than the sim card..

    Hi sadek2007,
Normally you can answer this question yourself. Therefore you have to check the specifications on the Toshiba website:
    http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/product/Satellite-A500-1F4/1080923/
As you can see, this model isnt equipped with 3G modem.
To use 3G, you have to use an external solution on this notebook.

  • A60: Question about other screen resolutions

    Hi,
I'm using a sattelite A60 with Ati Mobility Radeon 7000 IGP display adapter.
I thinking about buying a 24 inch external LCD screen with resolution: 1920*1200
According to the user's manual the maximum resolution is 2048*1536 but the widescreen resolutions are not listed at all in the table.
Does this screen work at my notebook?
    Thanks!
    Willem

    Hi
Unfortunately Im not familiar with the 24 displays but like Quad said you can test you notebook on this LSD display. But usually you can use different display resolutions and you dont have to use the max display resolution.

  • Should I get the iPod Touch? (Also a question about the screen issue)

    Hi,
I recently purchased the 8GB iPod Nano, and now i'm considering to add a $100 and get the iPod Touch 8GB. Would you guys recommend it?
Another question I had was that I heard about the iPod Touch having some Screen Issues, and read somewhere that if the Box has a picture of Macy Gray then its Bad. But I personally think the Macy Gray image is for the 8GB, and the other artist is for the 16GB.
Is there a 100% definite way for me to find out if it has a good screen or not?
    Thanks in Advance!
    Saeid.

Ok, I recommend the iPod Touch. 8GB is fine, and totally worth the $$.
The screen issue has been fixed by a firmware update, so as long as you update to the latest firmware, you should be in the clear.
I have a 16GB macy Gray and it is working perfectly so far (1 week of ownership)
However, you mentioned using your iPod in the rain. If you do so, the Touch is not for you! I would not want to get water even near it, because the technology could be very very sensitive to water. It was raining here the other day (in Los Angeles) and I was so scared to use the touch that I took my 8GB 3gen Nano with me instead. And I was still scared to use that.
You will have to take the touch out and look at it if you are going to operate it properly.
    The good news:
you can make playlists on the go! That means you can, while it is still dry, set a nice playlist without connecting to your computer. But, if the volume needs to be adjusted, there is a shortcut that would take just a bit of memorization and careful skill. In your pocket, you can double tap the home button, and then the volume, pause and track forward/backward "buttons" pop up. If you can memorize their position and hit them right, the Touch can be operated in your pocket. But make sure your hands are dry!
So it's up to you. I think quality wise, the Touch has had most of its bugs worked out. The only things that will come in the future are additional features.
Good luck and I hope you get it.

  • Question about HDD upgrade on Satellite M40X-184?

    Hello
I want to ask if there is an option to insert a new hdd in my toshiba. As far as I know there is no official support for this??
There is an access to the place where the disk is placed on the side of notebook. S
    o my question is
    1. is it possible to place a new disk (faster and bigger)
    2. is it possible without loosing warranty
    3. what disks do you suggest
    Thanks Szczepaan

    Hello Hinni
Unfortunately there is no public document about that and those information has Toshiba service partner or some independent PC and notebook service specialized for upgrade.
I can just tell you that Toshiba directly dont support hardware upgrade and I have noticed that hardware upgrade is cuts into three areas:
    - user upgrade (memory)
    - dealer upgrade (HDD)
    - service upgrade (WLAN card, BT module)
If you want to exchange the HDD alone take old out and notice all data on the sticker and talk with your local dealer if you want to buy the same but with more capacity. You can test new one and if there is some problem (not recognized by system) you can send it back any time.

  • Question about CPU upgrade for Satellite A30-104?

    Hello,
My Satellite A30-104 has recently come to the end of its warranty, and having had to open up the heatsink for cleaning and seeing that the CPU was accessible, I wonder if there is any (likely) scope for upgrading it.
The processor is a Celeron (Northwood) 2.6GHz. I'm not looking for more grunt, I'd prefer a lower-power chip, though the much larger L2 cache of a Pentium 4 is also desirable. I'd be very grateful if anyone could advise whether any upgrades are likely available, and if so which chips would be appropriate? If I can give any more useful spec information, please ask.
    Thanks in advance.

Hi, thanks for the reply -- and sorry it went ignored so long, it turns out I hadn't configured my email watches correctly :(
I appreciate that it's really a job for a technician, and I don't want to brick a perfectly good computer, but I think its EOL is not far off anyway so I'm prepared to be a little more invasive than before.
I know that I can get at the CPU, and I know the basic precautions for physically tampering with PC internals.
What I'm first of all concerned about is this: if I replace the CPU, and it doesn't function with the laptop, can this damage other parts of the system such that it'd no longer work by replacing the original?
The Celeron puts out a great deal of heat (all the time) but isn't it fair to assume that a P4-M will be less hot?

  • Question about memory upgrade on Satellite A210-127

I upgraded my memory form 2Gb (2x1 Gb) to 4Gb (2x2 Gb) with two Kingston memory modules KVR667D2S5/2G (PC2-5300 CL5).
For two weeks there were no problems but then I got blue screen every time when system boots reffering to I guss memory error.
I tried to replace memory with original Toshiba's modules but blue screen remains. I have conctacted the service and they say that
it may be memory incompatibility, virus or hard disk malfunction.
After few days of working on the solution I reinstal my laptop with Toshiba DVD and replace original memory. Now everything works fine.
I wonder is Kingston memory cause of my problem or somethig else?
Does anyone know is Kingston memory KVR667D2S5/2G 2Gb compatibile with Toshiba?

I've got an answer forom Kingston Customer Service Specialist:
    Dear Mr. Sekovanic,
Thank you for your e-mail and for your interest in Kingston Technology.
Please note that the memory module with the part number KVR667D2S5-2G is a ValueRAM generic part, built to industry guidelines meeting the JEDEC standard. As they are not tested on any motherboard, we cannot guarantee compatibility of these modules with a specific system.
The branded memory module KTT667D2/2G is designed, manufactured and tested in a specific systems or system series, such as the Toshiba Satellite A210-127. Although the technical specifications are quite similar we do not recommend to use the ValueRAM module on a specific system as yours.
We trust that the above information will be of assistance to you. However, should you have further queries please do not hesitate to contact us.
    so it's not compatibille.

  • Question about new BIOS on Satellite L20-182

    Hi :)
I've got one question: may I install new BIOS 2.20 on my Satellite L20-182 model no. PSL2XE?
If I can't, why users PSL2X can do this? Are there so many differences on both models?
Greetings and sorry for my English - I'n not the best :)

    Hi,
just for explanation: the bios you mentioned is the right bios for the machine. Toshiba is not writing the full model number since there is a range of model numbers of the same model, so dont worry, they are not different. Maybe the last digit but this is not important for you.
Why I am knowing this? Because many manufacturers are doing this and I was many times confused when updating bioses from another manufacturer...

  • A question about keeping screen field unchangable in selection screen

    Hello Expert,
I have a program as below.
    REPORT Z_TEST.
SELECTION-SCREEN BEGIN OF BLOCK b1 WITH FRAME TITLE text-i01.
    SELECT-OPTIONS: s_kappl FOR a017-kappl DEFAULT 'M' NO INTERVALS.
    SELECTION-SCREEN: END OF BLOCK b1.
    INITIALIZATION.
      LOOP AT SCREEN.
        IF screen-name CS 'KAPPL'.
          screen-input = 0.
          MODIFY SCREEN.
        ENDIF.
      ENDLOOP.
When I executed the report, the field for S_KAPPL is unchangable. This is as expected. But if I select one variant,  the filed will change back to changable.
My question is how can I keep the field unchangable after I select variant?
    Thanks in advance,
    Regards, Johnny

    Hello Johnny,
When you're creating the variant you've to mark the check-box "Protect field" as true.
This will make the field as output only.

  • Interesting technical page about LCD screen any hints about new 15" screen?

I came across this interesting page from another website discussion:
    http://www.techmind.org/lcd/index.html#inversion
From what I see I would have thought that the displayed Row Inversion, but my screen flickers on "Line-paired RGB sub-pixel dot-inversion" test:
    http://www.techmind.org/lcd/dotinvrgb2l.html
Try this one or the offset based on your window position and see if you see strong flicker. I also found this interesting paragraph:
"The inversion pattern for any given screen will inevitably flicker to some extent and is not a fault. If it really flickers a great deal then it may indicate that the common-electrode voltage has not been set up properly. In that case you might also perceive a "dot crawl" effect on plain colours of medium brightness. A grossly mis-set common-voltage will also make your screen more susceptible to temporary 'image sticking' problems.
Common-electrode voltage can sometimes be adjusted by means of an internal preset, or on a manufacturers' configuration screen (adjust for minimum flicker on the inversion-pattern) ...but doing so would almost certainly invalidate your warrantee. Typically, with the optimum setting, the centre of the screen will have minimum flicker on the inversion pattern, while the flicker will increase somewhat towards the left and right edges. If there's a distinct minimum anywhere on the screen, then the setting is pretty close. Note also that the optimum setting is likely to drift over the life of your screen, and may be slightly affected by temperature and the greylevel of the test pattern. "
Does this give anyone a clue whether this may be a software or hardware issue? As I've said before I am fine with my 15" powerbook display, but am very curious from a technical standpoint.

My new powerbook 15" is out of reach now , because it is in its original box at my working place ready to be picked up by TNT for an AppleStore return.
I am currently sitting in front of my other -personal- PB15" 1280X854 (received in August : obviously line-less). The second link gives me a non flickering screen, but the screen flickers when I move the window.
As I understand, the test tells you only how the Display handles the inversion scheme. The way it handles it is specific from the screen. This does not mean - in my understanding- that there is a problem with the screen itself.

  • Newb question about LCD resolution..

This may seem like an odd question but I just bought a

    1920 x 1200 (1.6)
    or
    1920 x 1440? (1.3)

It's typically recommended that you set the resolution of the
    LCD to
whatever its native resolution actually is.

  • Question about "share screen" function

When I am watching at another persons screen, is there a way to hover your mouse over the remote computers window without it effecting the pointer on the remote computer?
    Thank you

    kevinmathie wrote:
    Hi all,
I'm recording vocals on a song that has lots of ritardandi and rubato. While the vocalist is here, we'll be setting her part of the tempo mapping in "stone," so to speak, but not necessarily the instruments' tempo mapping between her verses or before her verses.
I usually record this kind of thing in Digital Performer, because I know that the audio sticks like glue to any ritardando, accelerando, etc., I may put in after recording the audio.
My question: Does the "Follow Tempo" box in Logic let me program in ritards after the audio is recorded, without messing up how the audio is synced to the sequence?
    Yes.
In other words, if the audio region spans bars 12-24, and I plug in a big ritard at bar 15, followed by "a tempo" in 16 after the audio is recorded, will the audio region follow the tempo mapping?
    Yes.
+"Plug in a big ritard"+ ? You are one tough composer!
2nd question: Does it do it automatically? Or, like Digital Performer, do I need to tell it to follow the tempo mapping after I change tempo?
No, it 'responds' to tempo events in the *tempo track*.
Any other tips/suggestions regarding this function that you feel would be helpful for me?
Yep, it can eat up RAM. When you enable follow tempo for a track, the whole audio file is loaded into RAM. Use a utility like MenuMeters to keep an eye on RAM use. http://www.pure-mac.com/diag.html#menumeters
You can find all relevant info on pages 526-527 of the *Logic Pro 8 User Manual*.

  • New LCD Screen on Satellite 110CS

    Hello to all,
My problem is that i have an EPIA M1000G LVDS motherboard and i am trying to connect and old 11.3" SHARP LCD from a Toshiba 110CS laptop i had in my basement and wanted to build with these stuff a similar computer like the HP All-In-One Series
The module i need for my epia motherboard "LVDS-05" is no more available for sale, as i searched all over the internet and found nothing IN STOCK. So i should forget the fact that my motherboard has LVDS on it.
So i came up with the idea that i will connect directly my screen to the motherboard, but then another problem came out, because the screen i have has a 40pin cable that was original connected to my laptop motherboard, but i cannot find any datasheets for the diagram, to what cable is what.
The SHARP screen is a VF0166P01 / LM80C219 model SVGA, colour 11,3" STN LCD
I hope this project will rise again, as at this point is shinking...
Thank your for your time and greetings from Greece,

This notebook is so old that I dont believe anyone here can help you with this.
I mean what you need is professional help. Read your posting one more time. Who can give you answer to this?
What you can do is to visit nearest Toshiba service and explain the situation, pay the coffee for the guys there and I am pretty sure they can check maintenance manuals for this oldie and help you with this.
