I just bought a lenovo S410p. The first time I used it, the laptop keep automatically shut down. I thought it was battery problem or adaptor but it wasn't. Then I realised when I moved the cover of the laptop, it will shut down and when I tried to on again, it won't turn on. I already send it for service and it was ok for a month or so and then the problem came back...now I can't even do anything properly with the laptop keep shutting down..I have tried everything I can and the laptop is new so I don't think its dust and its obviously not overheating...Please help soonest possible coz I honestly can't afford another laptop..Thanks a lot!!

  • Few questions about Lenovo G550

Hello, I plan to buy an inexpensive laptop, propably it will be a Lenovo G550L but I got few questions about this model. Here are my questions:
    1. What 320GB hard disks are mounted inside G550L, Western Digital, Seagate or Hitachi (exact model if possible)?
    2. How are the hinges of LCD screen in this model, cause they look pretty weak. Do they break easy, does anyone got any experience with this type of hinges which are "forward type" instead of normal?
    2. I have noticed that there are two types of laptop chassis in this model one is matte black and another is grey glare. How to determine which model has which finish? Which finish got laptops with T4300, 3GB RAM, 320GB HDD, Intel IGP x4500, no card reader, no hdmi.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards

my friend samsung any net, toshiba regza link, panasonic viera link is their special TM to support CEC
but just for their product not  other products, for instance a samsung dvd player and a samsung lcd can sync easily with with hdmi cable
and in this case you dont need an extra remote control to control dvd besides tv.just with having a remote you can control both of them or the other audio visual products from that campany
please think???? how could you control your lenovo when it does not have a remote?
every device need to send signals to the remote not by just some wires like HDMI
lcd has  a  remote and a dvd player also has a remote and if those are from a unit company, they share a common signal with HDMI cable ,then you could control both of them with just one remote.
this can ease your work,as you dont need a lot of remote around your devices
but they should be from just a unit producer cause they uses different protocols
and of course they want to sell their various products and oblige you to buy other products from that producer to have the compability for having just one remote.

  • A question about screen updation of T61

    Hi there
I got a question about screen updation.
Currently, my T61's screen is 14.1 XGA TFT 1028x768, and it can't work, thus I am considering to replace it with the better 14.1" SXGA+ LCD SCREEN .
However, I am a little concerned about the compatiblility problem, hence I just wonder whether the new SXGA+ screen can fit for my current T61 laptop or not?? Thanks a lot for your answers!

you can buy it from IBM parts, and it will then sure to work for your laptop.
Here is the manual that shows you how and what parts you need:
    http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-67979.html
P.S. If you have warranty this upgrade will void your remaining laptop warranty, as the LCD is not CRU (customer replaceable unit).

  • Question about battery maintenance and longevity

I have a question about the efficacy of the built-in battery maintenance of the Lenovo Power Manager utility; specifically how it pertains to my W520, if that makes any difference.
With my previous laptop (an HP), any time I knew it would be parked on my desk for a week or longer, I would manually discharge the battery to about 40% and remove it to run the machine on AC power only.  This proved to be an excellent practice that enabled the battery to work like new for three solid years.  As soon as I stopped bothering with that, the battery life started dropping like a stone.
Lenovo's power manager offers the option to maintain the battery automatically or manually override it to maintain a charge within specific range.  But I am wondering: how well this will work in the long run as compared to handling it manually?  And how do the two options (automatic and manual range) compare with eachother in terms of maintaining long term?
I currently use the manual setting and keep it between 40% and 45%.

I would put into manual, you have more control. Automatic follows a preset rule, which may not apply in every case or battery model.

  • Question about operating system

    Hello.
I just got lenovo T400. I have question about operating system. I choose OS (Windows XP Professional preinstalled through downgrade rights in Genuine Windows 7 Professional). When I get the laptop, Windows XP is preinstalled but I don’t know how to upgrade to Window 7. Please, tell me the way to upgrade.
    Have a nice day

you'd need the disks, and would need to do a fresh install, i.e. you can't just upgrade it. everything will be gone

Hi kec234, welcome to the forum,
the best place would probably be in the Lenovo 3000 & Essential notebooks board; it's the correct board for your system and who knows after searching through it you may find an existing thread on the same subject??

  • Question About Adding Ram from other laptop to T-series Thinkpad

    Hi,
I have a question about adding additional RAM. Right now I have a 4gb ram stick in the t510. I have an acer laptop which I do not need and there is a 4GB ram stick onboard (maybe two 2gb ram sticks) there in that older laptop. Would it be possible to add one stick of 2gb ram (or 4gb i need to check if it is 2 or 1) from the acer to the lenovo thinkpad making the total ram in the thinkpad over 4gb????
    Thanks in advance

    Hi Richk,
Yes, I am using a 64-bit operating system. I am running on windows 7. And as for reported incompatibilities....technically taking a RAM from another laptop and placing it in the laptop should be the same as purchasing a RAM card from ebay or something and putting into the laptop right?

  • Questions about the T410s

    Hey guys,
I'm considering buying the T410s because my last laptop was a Dell XPS and the GPU burned down after two years. I am a college student and I use my laptops quite extensively for homework, flash games, TV and movies. And I have a couple of questions about the T410s.
    1. Due to my previous experience with my Dell XPS, I am looking for a more reliable laptop. So would I have to worry about the T410s heating up/burning down or breaking in like two years?
    2. I am not much of a gamer, but enjoy videos sometimes. Will the Intel graphics card be able to run 'not so intense' games like Starcraft 2?
    3. Also, would the 4gig of RAM be sufficient to run the Windows 7 64bit smoothly or I should choose the 32bit instead?
    Thanks!!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    1) your Dell XPS used the Nvidia GPU? That won't happen in the new T410s.
    2) the Intel 5700 MHD GPU can handle 1080p easily, but games like Starcraft 2 may only played on low to med settings.
the Nvidia GPU Optimus GPU option would allow 4 LCD support through the dock, if you ever want to connect that many LCD in the future.
    3) 4 gigs is fine for 64 bit OS.

  • Quick Questions about the New T530

With the T530 finally showing up online for those of us in the U.S., I have thrown it into the pool of models I am considering and comparing it to the T520, but it is getting very hard to find information about it. Here are my top questions about it that I can not find answer to.
#1: Can the backlight on the keyboard (if you choose to get one with it) be toggled? If so, would it be through bios, a key combo, or software?
#2: Will accessories for the T520 be compatible with the T530? Including the 9-cell and the slice?
#3: Because this is a new item, and there might be high demand, is there a possibility of shipments bottlenecking? I.E.: if I buy one right now, will my order get postponed multiple times and take months?
Sorry if these answers have already been answered elsewhere, but I really did try (used Google and the forum search) to find the answers before posting. Plus, I'm sure there are a few people like me trying to decide between the T520 and Ivy-equipped T530, so maybe this thread will help them too.

    joshua144,
This is a bit outside my area of expertise, but I don't think the slice battery from T420/T520/W520 generation will work on the new systems like T430/T530/W530 which require battery authentication.
Check the tabook  http://www.lenovo.com/psref/pdf/tabook.pdf  to know which battery options are supported on which systems.  And note that the slice battery option for T520 is different than the slice battery option for T530.
Just because the 28++ battery (from your link) is backwards-compatible with the older systems, does not mean the older batteries like 27++ are forward-compatible with the new systems.
As for your other question about FN and CTRL, the FN button is still on the outside of the keyboard just like ThinkPad has always been.  And there is still the BIOS option to swap CTRL and FN.

  • Questions about flashing the bios

Hi everyone. I have a few questions about the process involved in a bios update.
First, I should tell you I have a Lenovo G470 that sometimes has problems booting.
The problem is I turn on the laptop and after 2-3 seconds it shuts down. I see the logo, and nothing else. After that I can spend hours trying to turn it on again, and keeps failing. After some time, I turn it on and use it without problems.
Before these problems, I had experienced similar troubles, but I could fix it (in my way) and I explained it in this post: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-3000-and-Essential/Lenovo-g470-shutdown-problems-in-intervals-of-...
Ok, In that post a reply says that a possible solution could be a Bios update. So, I've been thinking to flash the bios to solve my actual problem, but I would like to ask you some questions:
    1. Updating the bios could be a solution for this case?
    2. How long does it take to update a lenovo G470 bios? (I ask this because I read that if a problem occurs in the middle the damage can be serious, and in the past I had these random shutdowns, so I'm a bit afraid)
    3. How am I sure if my bios is or not updated? (there's a way to check this from windows?)
    4. Finally, if you could give me a link to download the correct bios update I'll thank you.
I think that's all. I apologize for my basic english and hope you could give me some clues on this, because, as you see, I'm a total newbie.
    Thanks!

    hi alemaneitor,
    Regarding your questions:
    1. Yes, flashing the BIOS may help solve your problem as it will re-write the configurations on the CMOS. Take note though of the changelogs or README (repair changes) as the latest BIOS updates fixes critical issues on the hardware.
I've also seen some units that act the same as yours and doing a gpu reflow most of the time fixes the issue - see this thread in reference.
    2. In flashing the BIOS outside of Windows, it takes less than a minute. If you need to run the BIOS flash utility inside Windows, it may take 1-2mins.
    3. If there's a new BIOS that fixes critical issues, it's most of the time uploaded on the lenovo website (in some cases, BIOS updates are not available to the public and can only be used by service technicians)
    4. The latest BIOS update for the Lenovo G470 is the one below that fixes an issue on units that can not enter BIOS after restart under compatible HDD mode (see README.TXT)
    BIOS Update for 32bit Windows
    40cn33ww_32.exe
    3.28MB
    BIOS Update for 64bit Windows
    40cn33ww_64.exe
    3.67MB

    I am an HP employee.

My HP, purchased in June 2012, died on Saturday.  I was working in recently installed Photoshop, walked away from my computer to answer the phone and when I came back the screen was blank.  When I turned it on, I got a Windows Error Recovery message.  The computer was locked and wouldn't let me move the arrow keys up or down and hitting f8 didn't do anything.
I'm not happy with HP.  Any suggestions?
