Question about Lion on non apple mouse

I am thinking of downloading lion, however the videos make great emphasis on being able to flick through pages just like on a iPad, but I don't have a trackpad and I use a trust mac mouse as the one that came with it battery life was rubbish. How do you use the features with no track pad. Are other features worth getting it for?
Carrie

Here is the warranty link from the mighty mouse page.
http://www.apple.com/legal/warranty/hardware.html
With the mighty mouse you should get a receipt that is your proof of purchase for when it was purchased. There is no registration because there is no serial number to register it with.
The MacBook has it's own one year warranty so you don't need to worry about the Mighty Mouse one year warranty covering it?
I suggest you keep the receipts in a safe place so if you need them you have them.

  • Can't use non apple mouse with hard drive test?

Having trouble reading an installation CD for a new scanner. Laptop with Tiger fine. Not iMac. So, was trying to run Hardware Test. Inserted disk, restarted with option key down. Image comes up. Can't select anything because Macally mouse won't work in harddrive test mode. Mouse plugged into port on back of computer, not in keyboard. Do I have to find the original apple mouse?
    Thanks for help! Judy

It should work, I have a non-Apple mouse that I use for that and it works just fine. Perhaps Macally mouses require special software to run, maybe you should check their web site. I know my Wacom, what I usually use, is completely dead until my login window opens.
So, yeah, I think you need to find the original Apple one.

  • Panning with a non-Apple mouse

I'm using a Razer Orochi, and I want to be able to pan (horizontal and/or vertical scrolling, the same way as a two-finger drag on a touchpad) by moving it. Is there a button config or keyboard shortcut for this?

I mentioned the model & driver for completeness and macro programmability, not because I expected the pan functionality to be provided by a 3rd party driver.
There is no way that I can see to setup any non-apple mouse to be able to pan, 3rd party drivers or not.
Something as simple as hold control while dragging would be perfect.
AFAICT there is no support for panning with a mouse is OSX.
I can't even find a way to pan with the keyboard.

  • Yet another pointless question about the practically non-existent iMac G5 Apple Hardware Test (AHT) disk.

    I have a 17" iMac G5 (iSight model) also known as model A1144, PowerMac12,1 or MA063LL/A.
Where do I download the Apple Hardware Test (AHT) disk for this machine? Apparently nowhere. However, it would really help me on my quest if I knew what I was looking for.
Does anyone know what AHT version is compatable with my machine? 2.2.1? 2.3.1?
How about the part number on the disk? I have some Intel disks that say 2Z691-5734-A that (obviously) won't work.
Is the AHT on Disk 1 or Disk 2? I'm starting to think there never was an AHT for this model.
Where do I get those ASD disks the so called "geniuses" have?

    Disk 1: 2Z691-53179-A
    Disk 2: 2Z691-5493-A
    Compatible with eMac (2005), iBook G4 (Late 2004), iBook G4 (Mid 2005), iMac G5 17-inch (ALS), iMac G5 20-inch (ALS), iMac G5 (17-inch iSight), iMac G5 (20-inch iSight), iMac (Early 2006 17-inch), iMac (Early 2006 20-inch), Mac mini, Mac mini (Late 2005), Mac mini (Early 2006), MacBook Pro, Power Mac G5 (Early 2005), Power Mac G5 (Late 2005), PowerBook G4 (15-inch Double-Layer SD), PowerBook G4 (17-inch Double-Layer SD)

AHT I think was on a seperate CD.

  • Question about lion

if i am using a magic mouse and not a track pad is there any reason to upgrade to lion

If you are concerned about Multi-Touch gestures, these work with a Magic Mouse as well.
And OSX LIon is more than just the new gestures http://www.apple.com/macosx/whats-new/

  • Question about Lion Recovery

I downloaded and installed Lion when it became available in the App Store, and my MacBook Pro has been very sluggish ever since. So, I am considering doing a fresh install of the OS and reimporting data, files, settings, etc. from my Time Machine backup. However, things like this scare me a little bit. I don't want to lose any data, so I have a few questions:
    - Is it better to use Lion Recovery (Command-R) during start up or to use the Boot Disc of Lion that I burned myself? Or will it not make a difference?
    - My choices seem to be:
          - Reinstall a fresh copy of Lion, or
          - Restore your Mac from a Time Machine backup
Which of these choices is going to be more likely to get rid of the garbage that is slowing down my machine?
    - Are there risks of not being able to access my Time Machine backup? I back up to a 1TB Lacie EHD.
I just don't want to get half way into this process and find out that I made a big mistake somewhere and I've lost all my photos or music or something else.
If anyone has any other tips they can give, I'd love to hear them. TIA!

Thanks to all that replied.  I guess I should have been a bit more clear as to why I wanted a clean install.  I'm having a minor software/hardware issue (not sure which although I'm leaning toward the hardware side).
To be very brief, intermittently IF I have the MagSafe plugged in and the lid is closed, upon opening the screen pops up normally for a couple of seconds and then goes black.  If I immediately unplug the MagSafe, the screen pops right back up and then I can replug the MagSafe and get normal charging operation while the computer is on.
If instead, I wait about a minute, the screen pops back up normally (MagSafe left plugged).  I took the computer into an Apple store and they ran all their tests (took over 30 minutes to do so).  The Genius told me the test series showed nothing wrong with my hardware or the OS.
I'm hoping that the problem is some piece of crap ware I have on the computer that is putting it into a sleep mode when this event occurs.
And that's the reason I thought I should try a new installation and in the process, get rid of some crap ware. I'm a curious guy and can't help myself from trying a lot of 3rd party programs that I probably should not be messing around with.  I've had this "illness" for about 25 years now and certainly have screwed up countless Windows installations.

  • Question about Lion Server usage...

    Hi there!
I'm new to Lion Server (at most, I had used the SL sharing preferences, but never the Server Admin or any of those tools...)
I'm having some troubles understanding Lion Server. First of all... where are all the files stored?? I know the web server files are stored at /Library/Server/Web... but what about all mails, wikis, and those files?
That is one question... the other one is... while fiddling with the wiki server I noticed that when I created a user, it's profile page is saved on the wiki and when I delete that user, the wiki document is still there! Wasn't it supposed to be deleted as I deleted the user itself?
I can't seem to find a manual or something, only for SL Server not Lion.
Can someone please help me out?
    Thanks!
    - Eduardo

    Eduardo
At the moment there is very little for Lion Server. What little there is, is here:
    http://www.apple.com/uk/support/lionserver/
    and here:
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/lion_server_upgrading_migrating.pdf
The administration manuals take some time to become available which is usually the case when Apple release a new version of the Server Version. However most of what's there does not change that much and generally the 10.6 Administration Manuals will contain most of what will eventually become the 10.7 Administration Manuals. Again this has always been the case going back to at least 10.3 Server. Technologies introduced in 10.5 Server such as CalDAV, Wiki and Blog etc did not change that much in 10.6. Apple also moved away from Cyrus as one of the Mail MDAs to Dovecot. But again the locations of where these were stored did not change. Going back to CalDAV and CardDAV these now appear to be amalgamated into one store.
As ever with any version of the Server - regardless of platform or age - it's a good idea to have plenty of backups and to experiment first with a test/lab environment before rolling it out to a full production server.
    HTH?

  • Questions about iPod photo and Apple Protection Plan

I have an iPod photo and an APP that expires May 2007. My
iPod's battery has permanently run out and I plan to use my APP and send it to Apple. Here are my questions:
    1. What is the best way to contact them about sending my iPod to them?
    2. Does the APP cover battery replacement?
    3. Has Apple discontinued the making of iPod photos?
    4. If so, will they still replace my battery or will they just send me a completely new iPod?

    1) You can arrange online service here.
    Service request.
    2) Yes.
    3) Yes.
    4) They will send a replacement iPod photo. They have stock just for this purpose.

  • Question about Lion and apps

This may be a stupid question, but if I upgrade to Lion, will I have to reinstall applications, such as iWorks, pages, numbers, etc?

There is no reason to assume that the price of Lion will fall in the future. Apple simply have no track record of doing that. Plus it's already ridiculously cheap as it is.
It may be beneficial to wait for 10.7.1 or 10.7.2 or whatever to come along, but I wpouldn't expect then in "a couple of days", month maybe...

  • Using non apple mouses...

My Logitech G5 Gaming Laser Mouse USB (Corded) - http://www.surpluscomputers.com/348331/logitech-g5-gaming-laser-mouse.html
Isn't working too well on my 13'' macbook pro - http://store.apple.com/us/configure/MC374LL/A?mco=MTc0Njg1ODA
Whenever I aggresively use the mouse (ie trying to scroll all the way left or right up or down) in SC2, it works fine.
But whenever I try to do "close" movement actions (ie send a probe that spawns at nexus to mineral line)
the mouse cursor goes EXTREMELY slow and I need to "force" it by moving it further/faster in the designated direction.
Is there a reason for this? (it also happens not in sc2, but I thought with all the computer gurus here, I'd post it)
Also, it's come to my attention that this could be the cause of "acceleration."
    Any way to disable this?

Acceleration means what it says. As you move the mouse faster, do you want the pointer to accelerate a little, or a lot? You might want to set acceleration to a low value. Check the Logitech driver software for this feature, or if that doesn't work, try the Keyboard & Mouse system preference where Apple calls it "Tracking Speed."
The reason some people like high acceleration is that they have large monitors or multiple monitors. A constant speed would not work, because it would be invariably too fast for small movements and too slow to get the cursor from the far left to far right edge of all connected monitors. So acceleration means if you move the mouse a couple inches slowly, the mouse is at or nearly at 1:1 speed, but if you move the mouse the same couple inches but much more quickly, it moves the pointer much further so you can get across all monitors fast.
If you have a small monitor, like a 13", acceleration/tracking speed should be set rather low.

  • A question about Lion

    Hi,
When Lion is released I believe it will cost £21 ( a bargain Mr Gates)
    I have a MacBook Pro & a iMac.
Will I have to purchase the software twice.

  • Question about reinstalling osx and apple id activation

if i reinstall os x fresh on my laptop without first de-authorizing my apple id, will it use another authorization when i go to authorize again? i'm confused if it goes by hardware id or what and i can't seem to find an answer anywhere.

There aren't any "authorizations" as you are referring. There is no limit to the number of times you can reinstall the OS.
If you erase the drive or replace the drive, Internet Recovery will reinstall the originally shipped OS.
If you purchased Mountain Lion separately and installed over another OS, you'll need the Apple ID you used to purchase Mountain Lion.

  • Question about Lion Server documentation

Historically Apple has posted the server documentation as a set of PDF documents which can be freely downloaded. I have found what appears to be the correct webpage for the Lion Server documentation which is  http://www.apple.com/macosx/server/resources/documentation.html but this page only has a Getting Started guide as a PDF and the rest as only HTML which can only be viewed online.
Does anyone know if there are PDF versions available somewhere?

Unfortunately that is the html version I mentioned. It comes down as a single massive document which takes forever to load.
I know Apple have been having a spat with Adobe over Flash, but that is no reason to boycot offering PDF manuals.

  • Question about Lion/Mountain Lion installation on a new Mac

How is Lion/Mountain Lion installed on brand new Macs? Is it freshly installed from scratch or are they done by way of upgrade like when you buy it from the app store? Thanks.

When I got my new Macbook Pro (with Lion already installed), I purchased a 16GB USB Flash Thumb Drive, than used SuperDuper (or was it Carbon Copy Cloner) to copy the mostly original contents of the new Macbook Pro to the USB Thumb Drive.  And because I'm the paranod type when it comes to backups, I did it again, on a SD Card and did it again.
I also used the Lion Recovery Disk Assistant to put a recovery partition on a few external devices (including the USB Thumb Drive and the SD Card), so I have multiple ways to recover Lion should something go "Bump in the Night".
As to how Apple gets the OS on the disk, my guess is that at the factory they clone a master image onto the disk using a very fast sector by sector copy or a utility similar to SuperDuper or Carbon Copy Cloner (but most likely something of Apple's creation).
