Question about Logic Channel EQ

When i use Logic Channel EQ to cut low frequencies of say, a kickdrum (in this particular case up to 200hz), the level meter on the channel increases quite a bit. I thought cutting frequencies is supposed to reduce the volume? Also there arent any other plug ins on the channel. Is this normal?

At it's default setting the low cut on the channel eq has quite a bit of filter resonance at the cutoff point. This resonant boost is what you are hearing. If you lower the Q all the way this resonance will be gone and you will get only the cut you are looking for. If you use the graphic analyzer be sure to set it to maximum resolution as it is quite misleading otherwise.

  • Question about BlazeDS Channel internals

There is much useful information available about how an application developer would use BlazeDS to implement their application, but there is a shortage of information about how BlazeDS is implemented.  There are very general architecture diagrams, but no information on the actual network technologies employed.  This information is essential for forming estimates of the server hardware requirements of a design.  The alternative is to build the application one way, and then discover the performance characteristics afterwards.
For one feature of my application, the ideal structure would be to give the clients and mx.Consumer to receive non-polling stream of changes replicated from the database.  In this particular feature, there would be no subtopics, each client would receive the same data.  The question is would BlazeDS/Flex give each client 1 persistent socket to support the stream.  If this is the case, then this design poses a very significant load on the server.  It makes it easy for the developer, because he writes to only one topic, but if under the covers, the server is writing to one socket for each client.  It will require a lot of hardware.
Or, to state the question another way, would BlazeDS/flex use multicast, when there is a client Consumer subscribing to a topic, with no subtopics?

I have just found one clear statement in the BlazeDS documentation with regard to sockets when streaming:
"The Servlet API uses blocking IO so as with long polling above, you must set a configured upper bound on the number of streaming connections you allow. Clients that exceed this limit are not able to open a streaming connection and will fall back to the next channel in their channel set."
    BlazeDS Developer Guide, page 50.
This I did not expect, since non-blocking IO has been part of Java for over 5 years in the NIO package.  If I were to deploy BlaseDS on an Intel sized box, I suspect the blocking IO would limit me to maybe 300 concurrent users.  If this is true, it means that both streaming and long polling are unusable for almost any application on the public web.
Maybe the only option is to write a server in Java NIO that communicates with Flash Sockets.
    Did I miss something?

  • Basic questions about Logic Pro

Reading the topics and discussion groupes in this Logic Pro community is a tiny bit scary to me I admitt.
Yet I will launch my basic question into the air, hoping to get an answer.
I am a complete beginner in this field and only read something about this Logic Pro program a day ago.
My question is simple: Is Logic Pro useful for people like me?
I do not play an instrument, I have no editing and other skills mentioned in the forums, I never put a note on paper or computer before.
I would only love to find a way to get some music out of my head. That's all.
Should I take a course first and maybe then get the program? Or is this not what i am looking for?
    Thank you community!
    Eduard

Your question is impossible to answer. Although... maybe you should just try Garageband first. It's free, and what you learn on it transfers to Logic (Garageband is now in fact Logic Lite).
And making Dance music really is not that hard, here's a brilliant tutorial from a countryman of yours:

  • A question about Logical Disk Performace collection Rules and how the Data is displayed in a Report view

    Hello
I am currently on SCOM 2007 R2 CU6 and Window Server Operating System MP version 6.0.6989.0 (I cannot use the latest version of the MP as we still have some Windows 2000 Servers we need to support, yes I know :( )
Any way the issue is, I have never found the Logical Disk performance counter data very reliable from SCOM.
For example, I have a Windows 2008 R2 Server and when looking at a local Logical Disk (which holds an SQL temp DB on a busy SQL Server) and look at the performance counter
The SCOM collection rule is called "Collection Rule for Average Disk Seconds per Transfer"
The actual Windows Perfmon counter is called "Avg. Disk Bytes/Transfer"
if you look at the description of the above Perfmon counter it is described as
"Avg. Disk Bytes/Transfer is the average number of bytes transferred to or from the disk during write or read operations."
The problem I have is as follows:
The resulting SCOM performance chart over several days (which has a scale ox 1x) states the value never reach 3 (e.g. maximum wa s 2.7 say). I cannot believe the a drive holding the tempDB databases for a busy SQL Server does not transfer more then 2.7 "bytes"
of data at a given to to its tempDB databases!
Indeed when I look at Permon on the Server and looks at this counter over say 20 minutes or so, the figure is often in the 10,000 or 30,000 bytes etc. It does fall back to 0 (zero) momentarily but mostly it is in the 1000s, or 10,000s etc.
Therefore when my boss says show me the "Avg. Disk Bytes/Transfer" and SCOM says it has not exceeded 2.7 over the last business week (i.e. the chart never peak above this value on the chart with scale 1x) he naturally does not believe it!!
Any advice please regarding the above. Is it the fact if the counter ever falls to zero it messes up the SCOM report charts?
    Thanks

Create your own collection rule, to mirror the sample times, and what not.  Look at the data from your rule vs the mp default rule.  It probably has to do with the chart scale imho.

  • Quick Question about logic bus sends

    Hi,
Please help- In Logic, I am sending some channels to busses for echo etc, but when I mute the channel being sent, the signal is still sent to the buss and echoed wet signal continues. I know in real desks you get pre fader and post fader, but can't find place to change these settings!
    Anyone know?
    Thanks, Ben (Brazil)

Click-hold the send slot and a list will open where you can select pre or post fader at the top of the list.

  • Question about logic pro 7 & logic express

I have been working in Logic Platinum 4.7 for several years & need to upgrade - I work mainly in MIDI for new Age music and add 1 or 2 live audio tracks - I don't use a lot of effects and never use loops - a salesman at Sweetwater suggested that I might only need logic express rather than Pro 7 - does anyone know if logic express can do all that logic 4.7 did? I particularly need to edit MIDI notes in the score format - and is it true that I dont' need a mixing board any more even though I still want to use my Kurzweil sampler, PC 88 MX and Proteus modules? Also need suggestions about audio and MIDI interfaces to use with an IMac 2.16 intel dual processor computer that I will buy at the same time - thanks for any input - jazznow

I do not know about 4.7 but I do have Logic Express which
I used for about 6 months before upgrading. I would think
that you will be fine if all you are doing is what you described
here. You really dont need a mixer but you might want to
look at a control surface which gives you the feel of a mixer.
I suggest the Behringer BCF2000, Only 200 and it emulates
a Logic Control. As far as interfaces you are going to find
alot of different opinions here so you should check them
all out. It comes down to how much you are willing to spend.

  • I don't know where else to ask this: Quick Question about Logic Platinum 6

    Hi everyone,
This question actually pertains to a copy of Logic Platinum 6 I own but I don't know where else to ask it, so here I am in the Logic 8 forum.
I haven't touched Logic in a year or maybe two, and I just installed it on my computer and after attempting to start it up with two different XS keys (I thought I lost one so I have a replacement and I forget which one is the active one) it says "no XS key found" to both of them.
I want to upgrade to Logic 8 but in the mean time I can't even get Logic 6 to recognize my XS key.
Please help me out if you have any information that would be beneficial or know where I could seek help!
    Thank you!
    Colin C.

When you plugin them in, are they recognised in System Profiler? Try differnt ports, connecting them directly and not on a hub. Try on a different computer if necessary.

  • Question about Logic Pro X sounds

    Hello Everyone,
This may be a silly question, but I went to the apple store today and was playing around on an imac and noticed in garageband 10 that there were a lot more virtual instruments than my version and I completed the in app purchase of $5.00 for the 14 gig extra content download. I did some research and found out they also had logic pro x installed, so I'm assuming that's where the instruments came from.
My question is, is there a way to purchase just the virtual instruments from logic pro x without purchasing the program? I understand that it is a 200 dollar program and so there's bound to be more instruments in it than the 5 dollar upgrade for garageband, and that is how they entice you to buy it, but I'm interested in just the instruments. thank you

You could buy MainStage 3 instead of Logic Pro X. The JamPack instruments that come with MainStage can be used in GarageBand as well. I never used Main Stage for making music, but  the Jam Pack instruments as patches in GarageBand.
After you install MainStage, you should find the new instruments in the "Legacy" section of the library, if you select a software instrument track, like this:
MainStage does not install many instruments at first. You will have to launch it at least once and use the commmand "MainStage > Download additional Content" from the main application menu.

  • A question about: Logical data and Physical data

    Dear all,
please anyone tell me, can datas in logical entity(view) be imported/exported into the Physical entity(table)?
In fact, I have two tables to store datas now, but our client changed their requirements: they want to make them into a single table to store these datas. you know, if we do these, many codings/designing works must be done(changed), so I want to create a view to implement their requirments, but this will cause aother problem, coz these datas will be import/copy into the other database in the future, I did not have any experience in importing/exporting, so can you tell me?
My English maybe poor, can you understand what is my problem?
    thanks.
    Pionner.

When you move from (0,0) to (0,Y), only the second axis will rotate. Therefore, no pulse will be sent will be sent from encoder 1 to your DAQ card. A possible work around is to use breakpoints which will allow you to send a pulse when certain positions are reached. For more information on this, please refer to the attached example.

  • I don't have a question about Logic

But I would like some useful advice and examples of some nice rock 'n roll mixing-mastering regardless of which app I'm using.
I've picked up on a few resources that have helped, but I'd like to hear from anyone that has some cool suggestions/material that may have been successful for you.
Of course thousands of bucks worth of A-list microphones would vastly improve my audio, but I'm looking for help just in the post process. Unless anyone wants to donate those aforementioned mics!

    I hear ya. Pun intended.
I'm just looking to flesh out some of the literature I have and I was wondering if anyone has any specific recommendations that have worked for you. Testimonials if you will.
I'm keen on doing that "I'll-be-the-smuck-that-gets-you-coffee-if-you-let-me-hang-out-in-your-studio-" guy, but I haven't found anyone in my area that's A) a really good studio engineer and B) willing to let me fetch a latte.
(not to mention that I'm an American in Hiroshima with, sadly, a Japanese vocabulary of about 10 words)
I'm muddling my way through 'Principles of Digital Audio by Ken C Pohlmann' right now and 'The Mixing Engineer's Handbook by Bobby Owsinski' Believe me, I'd much rather be wired on caffiene and coiling xlr cables next to a rusty drum kit somewhere.
BTW, I like the Motown sound and lord knows they made a lot happen with some rather Spartan sound engineering. I believe I can eventually accomplish the same; more with skill than resources. It's the same principle in film/video production. Still...who wouldn't like 12 Nuemann mics in the closet and a rack of Avalon pre's?

  • This is a very simple question about multi-channel audio playback

I have an mp4 file that i made and i made it 7.1 surround sound, and i'm pretty sure that this 7.1 surround sound works, as it can be played in VLC. i'm using netstream to load my files now. How do i make it so that flash can playback all 8-channels of sound? I suppose kglad would know the answer

Flash doesn't support multi-channel audio (yet?)

  • Newbie question about Logical Data services

Lets say we want to create a Logical Data Service that will retrieve data from several web-services and aggregate the results. When a client requests data from the logical data service, a number of webservices will get invoked. Response time of these webservices can be different. We do not want to keep the client app waiting for long.. so is it possible to define a cut-off time in data service after which client gets results obtained till that point? Alternatively, does ALDSP provide support for clients that could poll a data-service to check for results of a previously submitted query?
Will appreciate your help in understanding capabilities of ALDSP and approach taken by you in similar situations.

to define a cut-off time in data service after which client gets results obtained till that point?See the fn-bea:timeout() function in the ALDSP documentation. It will do exactly what you want for web-services. Note that adding the function to a query will of course alter the query plan - which will have little/no effect for web-services - but for database access, may prevent some optimizations.
In DSP 3.0, you will be able to use the hasNext()/next() form of the mediator api and the client will only block while the first and subsequent items are being retrieved.
If you want to call DSP asynchronously - I believe ALSB allows you to create an asynchronous proxy service (JMS, for instance)

  • Bursting - question about delivery channel

Can I call scripts with one of the delivery channels? Or maybe I can do it through filter, something like
    <xapi:filesystem output = "/tmp/1.pdf" filter="/tmp/myscript.sh /tmp/1.pdf">

Many reasons. For exampel one of our request is to call web-services for some bursted file. If I could call a script this will become doable.
You mentioned BurstingStatusListener . I didnt' find any reference to BurstingStatusListener in Administration guide. Can you give some example?
