Question about Logic Pro X sounds

Hello Everyone,
This may be a silly question, but I went to the apple store today and was playing around on an imac and noticed in garageband 10 that there were a lot more virtual instruments than my version and I completed the in app purchase of $5.00 for the 14 gig extra content download. I did some research and found out they also had logic pro x installed, so I'm assuming that's where the instruments came from.
My question is, is there a way to purchase just the virtual instruments from logic pro x without purchasing the program? I understand that it is a 200 dollar program and so there's bound to be more instruments in it than the 5 dollar upgrade for garageband, and that is how they entice you to buy it, but I'm interested in just the instruments. thank you

You could buy MainStage 3 instead of Logic Pro X. The JamPack instruments that come with MainStage can be used in GarageBand as well. I never used Main Stage for making music, but  the Jam Pack instruments as patches in GarageBand.
After you install MainStage, you should find the new instruments in the "Legacy" section of the library, if you select a software instrument track, like this:
MainStage does not install many instruments at first. You will have to launch it at least once and use the commmand "MainStage > Download additional Content" from the main application menu.

  • Basic questions about Logic Pro

Reading the topics and discussion groupes in this Logic Pro community is a tiny bit scary to me I admitt.
Yet I will launch my basic question into the air, hoping to get an answer.
I am a complete beginner in this field and only read something about this Logic Pro program a day ago.
My question is simple: Is Logic Pro useful for people like me?
I do not play an instrument, I have no editing and other skills mentioned in the forums, I never put a note on paper or computer before.
I would only love to find a way to get some music out of my head. That's all.
Should I take a course first and maybe then get the program? Or is this not what i am looking for?
    Thank you community!
    Eduard

Your question is impossible to answer. Although... maybe you should just try Garageband first. It's free, and what you learn on it transfers to Logic (Garageband is now in fact Logic Lite).
And making Dance music really is not that hard, here's a brilliant tutorial from a countryman of yours:

  • Question about logic pro 7 & logic express

I have been working in Logic Platinum 4.7 for several years & need to upgrade - I work mainly in MIDI for new Age music and add 1 or 2 live audio tracks - I don't use a lot of effects and never use loops - a salesman at Sweetwater suggested that I might only need logic express rather than Pro 7 - does anyone know if logic express can do all that logic 4.7 did? I particularly need to edit MIDI notes in the score format - and is it true that I dont' need a mixing board any more even though I still want to use my Kurzweil sampler, PC 88 MX and Proteus modules? Also need suggestions about audio and MIDI interfaces to use with an IMac 2.16 intel dual processor computer that I will buy at the same time - thanks for any input - jazznow

I do not know about 4.7 but I do have Logic Express which
I used for about 6 months before upgrading. I would think
that you will be fine if all you are doing is what you described
here. You really dont need a mixer but you might want to
look at a control surface which gives you the feel of a mixer.
I suggest the Behringer BCF2000, Only 200 and it emulates
a Logic Control. As far as interfaces you are going to find
alot of different opinions here so you should check them
all out. It comes down to how much you are willing to spend.

  • About Logic Pro 9.1.7

    Hello, I'm Max.
I have a few questions about Logic Pro 9.1.7
    a) A couple of months ago I installed on my Macbook the "EWI USB by Akai" (a program for midiSax).
After that, when I start the Logic Pro this message appears:
An error has occurred with an installed Audio Unit plug-in.
Logic Pro unexpectedly quit while trying to use the Audio Unit "EWI USB" by "Akai".
This plug-in may require an update.
I uninstalled the "EWI USB by Akai", updated the OS (Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5 (11G63)), but the message appears again.
    What should I do?
    b) I purchased the Logic Pro in the App Store. Do I have the right installing this program on a second computer? If "yes" , then how?
    Thank You very mach, Max.

Logic can only export to movie when running in 32-bit, this is because Logic uses Quicktime for exporting, Logic and QT do not work together in 64-bit. Supposedly a QT update is needed but since it's been like that for over a year I wouldn't hold my breath.  Run Logic in 32-bit and the feature should be available.

  • What can you guys tell me about Logic Pro

I've seen the features for the express version just the thought is looked limited so I think im pretty much convinced to purchase logic pro. Does anyone have anything I can listen to thats been made off Logic Pro? I've heard one producer on soundclick.com using Logic Pro but alot of people on soundclick.com don't know how to make something sound good and what not. (Im not too good with it myself)

  • Few questions about mac pro before buying

    Hello all!
I may be buying a mac pro in a month or so and have a few questions about it.
    1. ) Any one know when Apple may release the latest mac pro? Don't wanna buy some thing that'll be significantly obsolete in a few days
    2. ) Is it possible to use SATA optical drives internally? I have a SATA blu ray drive I'd like to take from my PC, if that's possible.
    3. ) Is it possible to get a graphics cards better than the 8800 GT for video games? (For use in OS X)
    4. ) Finally, is there a significant performance difference between Apple's seemingly super expensive RAM and 3rd party RAM? (Other than the heat syncs)
    Thanks for any replies.

    1. We have no idea when Apple will release any product until it's released. This is a user-to-user site so we have no more information about future products than you do.
    2. Yes, it's possible. There are two additional SATA ports on the motherboard.
    3. The only graphic cards are those provided by Apple when you order the computer as well as the non-Apple supplied ATI HD-3870 Mac/PC card. The 8800 and 3870 have close performance specs. You can find some benchmarks at Bare Feats.
    4. There's no difference between the RAM Apple installs and what you can purchase on the open market. As long as the RAM meets the required specifications and has the requisite heat sink it will work just fine.

  • Basic questions about macbook pro + external monitor

    Hi,
I have some very basic questions about using a Macbook Pro + external display. I don't actually have them but need to know how things works.
    So, here they are:
    1) Can I use the external display as the main display?
    2) Will the external display run with its resolution or with that of the mbook pro?
    3) Somewhere I read that you cannot keep the macbook pro open and get the full resolution of the external display. Is that true ?
    4) Is it dangerous to keep the mbook closed while using the external display?
    5) Does the usage of the external display impact on mbook performance?
I know...a lot of questions , but would be nice if someone could help me.
    Thanks.

Hi - I am presently using an external display.
To answer your questions in sequence:
    1. Yes you can use the external display as your main display. The way to enable that mode is to put your MacBook Pro to sleep, attach the external display. Wake up your MBPro with the lid closed and you will see the external display as you main display. You can alternatively set the external to "Mirror" your notebook by using preferences/display.
    2. The external display will run at its resolution although you can adjust and calibrate it using Preferences/Display.
    3. Not true. You get max resolution on both displays. Of course you may have to tweak as mentioned above.
    4. Not at all. I use this mode all the time. Just make sure you initially set up as mentioned above and your LCD on the MBPro will stay off.
    5. I have not seen any performance degradation whatsoever.
    Hope this helps.

  • Can logic pro read sound fonts?

I am currently trying to use Garageband and have reached a couple of cripling limitations.
    1) the orchestra instruments I need are not supported (oboe d'amore and baritone oboe)
    2) there are free sound fonts available which contain good samples of these instruments but Garageband can only read the FIRST instrument from a sound font?  Which basically (in my opinion) means it cannot read a sound font.
Can Logic Pro read soundfonts correctly?  Can I use all the instruments from a sound font using Logic Pro?

    jimka_2001 wrote:
When you say "can convert sound fonts"  do you mean just the first instrument in the sound font, or all of the instruments in a single sound font?
All of the instruments get converted into single patches located inside a folder. Only one set of samples from the soundfont exist, but each patch from the soundfont is available as a single entity. In other words, you don't select the soundfont and have individual patches available within the SF, each patch is loaded as a separate instrument.
Which makes me think... are you sure that Garageband isn't doing this?

  • Re-install questions for Logic Pro 8

I have recently switched from a G5 to the new Mac Pro. I installed the two hard drives from my G5 into slots 2 and 3 on my Mac Pro. Each is 300GB. Slot 1 is the 320GB hard drive that came with the Mac Pro. My plan is to use the main drive (slot 1) for all other applications, do a clean install on my second 300GB drive (slot 2) and update to Mac OS 10.5, then re-install only Logic Studio on this drive. I use my third hard drive (slot 3) to record audio to. I will probably add another hard drive to slot 4 to use either for virtual instruments (Vienna Strings, Wallander), or use it as backup for my system.
I am a long time Logic user (since 1995) and have been continually updating, my last update being to Logic Studio from Logic Pro 7. I want to avoid any unforeseen issues with re-installing from an update, so I would really appreciate any advice on the best procedure to accomplish this re-install. I also am intending on keeping an alias of Logic Pro 8 on the dock of my main drive to open and use Logic from my second drive, and will store all logic song files on the second drive with the application, and continue to record audio to the third drive, as mentioned above. Any helpful wisdom or suggestions for improvement on this configuration would be great too, but I'm mainly asking for help on Logic Studio re-install.

    Happy New Mac
My plan is to use the main drive (slot 1) for all other applications, do a clean install on my second 300GB drive (slot 2) and update to Mac OS 10.5, then re-install only Logic Studio on this drive.
That's fine except that most applications (and certainly Logic) have to be installed on the boot drive, and the library or user library +on that drive+ will contain all library files such as application support, preferences etc.
I use my third hard drive (slot 3) to record audio to
That's where old and new Logic projects should live.
I will probably add another hard drive to slot 4 to use either for virtual instruments
    Good idea.
or use it as backup for my system.
I'd suggest an external drive for backups, with a basic system on it in a separate partition, solely used for emergencies. Most of the time it should be 'off' except when actually backing up.
and will store all logic song files on the second drive with the application
Shouldn't they be on your 3rd. drive? All projects, old and new, should live on that, I think.
Also, be aware that if you plan to install Logic 7 (for old projects) re-install this first, before you install Logic 8. You can't do this in the wrong order. This will be on the same boot drive and Logic 8 (and your system).

  • Logic Pro X Sound

I can not hear nothing on Logic Pro X I have faders up and everything routed right but I still can't hear nothing on here. What is the problem?

  • Just had a quick ? about logic pro.

Will be doing some vocals and I do not have logic pro at this point. (just using garage band)
I am looking to record some vocals and then put vocoder effect on it.
    Looking for very decent quality.
would logic be a good choice or would I do better getting a good outboard unit?
as far as quality is concerned?
also could i do this in GB?
    thanks, technoreid

Yes, Logic has very good vocoding caabilities. I may suggest you download the plug in pdf and search vocoder. Lots of great stuff there. I think these are omitted from GB and Lexpress... but I don't use either (well, have used but hardly)

  • A few questions about Macbook Pro 13inch batteries.

Hey, my Macbook Pro just arrived today, and I was wondering about general battery care:
Is it okay to leave it plugged in while using it?
How come there's a longer power cord and a shorter one? Is it just for convenience?
How long does a Macbook usually take to charge to 100%?
Is it okay to leave it plugged in all night?
Sorry if I sound stupid, but I'm not very tech-savvy. Thanks for any help!
    xx

Yes, you can leave it plugged in.  Once in a while however, you have to use it under it's own power, at least till it reaches 80% to keep your battery in optimal condition.
As for the power cord, you answered that one yourself " for convenience "
How long does it take long to charge all depends on how low the battery was when you charged it.
Yes, it's ok to leave your Macbook plugged in all night.  Just make sure you use it under it's own power once in a while.  You don't have to fully discharge it which might do more harm than good.

  • I've got some questions about Satellite Pro L300

1.) How could I Update my Bios? I find the zip- File but no further Information how it works?
2.) I want to update for more memory. 2GB are less for fast working. Where could I find Informations about the memory controller- e.g. Voltage, Timings... for pass new memory of 4GB.
3.) My PSSD1E shows me in Windows7 - Systems Hardware one empty SATA- Controller.
Is it possible to take it optional for an outgoing connection- eg SATA-OUT for extrenal device?
    Sorry for my worst english.

Satellite Pro L300 is offered with several different hardware configurations. I dont know which one do you have and there is no sense to discuss about this without exact notebook info.
If you want to have general conversation here than dont claim about this forum.
To get some precise answers inform us about exact notebook model.
    One more time:
    1
For all new notebook models Toshiba offers Win update only. That means BIOS update can be done under running operating system. For more details check Toshiba document.
    2
What you need is just part number of compatible RAM modules. All other information is not so relevant for you. If you want to get this info post exact notebook model.
You can test what you want but fact is that Toshiba offers list of compatible RAMs you can use with your notebook. All listed RAMs are tested. Other way you can visit KINGSTON page to check their list of compatible models for different Toshiba notebook models. Kingston offers high quality products and all listed RAMs are tested too.
Who knows which RAMs you have used for your tests? Maybe some cheap no-name products. Many people have used such RAMs and at the end nothing worked.
    3
Why you complicate the whole situation? For external devices you have available ports. For internal device you have ports on the motherboard. End of the story.
