Question about message:  "Newer version of QuickTime required"

I installed iTunes 7, just now. When trying to launch the software, either manually or by plugging in my iPod, I get the following message: "QuickTime version 7.0d0 is installed, iTunes requires QuickTime version 7.1.3 or later. Please reinstall iTunes."
I have reinstalled iTunes three times, but continue getting the same message.
Please advise.

Sometimes installing QUicktime before you install iTunes works.
First remove iTunes and associated programs using this method:
XP
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925
Vista
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
Restart your PC.
If any uninstalls don't work, post back.
Download the version of Quicktime that does not include iTunes and save it on your PC.
http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html
Download iTunes and save it on your PC if you have not already done so:
http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Install Quicktime and check that it works.
If it does, install iTunes.

  • When I try to install QuickTime, I get the message "newer version is already installed". How can I do?

When I try to install QuickTime, I get the message "newer version of QuickTime already installed". I uninstalled QuickTime. I have also gone into the registry and deleted all references regarding QuickTime. I really don't want to have to reinstall Windows just to be able to install QuickTime. I have used QuickTime for years and want to use it again. What do you suggest I do?

Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from the following page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATION" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
To install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up").
In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any QuickTime entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC. Now try another QuickTime install. Does it go through properly this time?

  • Just upgrade Pages and now I keep getting this asinine message about a new version when I attempt to open Pages 09

I just upgraded to the new version of Pages that was released today.
Before that I could start up either the old Pages 09 version or the new version whichever one I visit.
Seeing as how I have a lot document that use feature not included in the newer version I have been running the older version most of the time.
Now if I attempt to do that, I get this asinine message about a new version which takes me to the new version and gives me now way to open the older version.
Is any one aware of a work around for this problem?
I am going the express my displeasure on the Apple Feedback page now also.
    Allan

This is the App Store Help instructions:
    Manage app subscriptions
You can change renewal settings for subscriptions and re-subscribe to apps in App Store.
Choose Store > View My Account, sign in, then click Manage (next to Subscriptions).
If an app is set to renew automatically, do any of the following:
    Change your renewal duration:
Select a setting in the Renewal Options list.
    Turn off automatic renewal:
Select Off as the Auto-Renewal setting.Your subscription continues until it ends, and is not renewed automatically.
If an app is not set to renew automatically, click the Subscribe button next to a duration. If your current subscription has expired, this renews the subscription to the app and turns on automatic renewal.
Apple does say it won't respond to feedback.

  • Install Itunes, message says newer version of Quicktime is already installe

I have tried every which way to uninstall Itunes and Quicktime. When I try a new install Itunes it stops and says a newer version of quicktime is already installed, then I close out of that window and the next one says that Itunes can not be installed without Quicktime. Help, I have spent most of today on this and i am ready to toss my computer and Ipod!

    Thanks beaner!
Okay, we're now going to try uninstalling iTunes and Apple Application Support (if it is still present on the system). Then we'll reinstall iTunes, which should reinstall Apple Application Support as well. We'll also take a few additional explicit precautions along the way.
First, download and save a fresh copy of iTunesSetup.exe (the itunes installer file) to your hard drive. (Don't run the install on line, and don't start the install just yet.)
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Quit QuickTime and Safari 4.0.4 if you have them open. (They both use Apple Application Support, and will interfere with the uninstall if they are open.)
Now head into your "Uninstall a program" control panel. Uninstall iTunes. Uninstall Apple Application Support (if it is present).
Next we'll clear away any leftover program files and folders.
In "Computer" open "Local Disk (C:)".
    Open the "Program Files" folder.
Right-click on the "iTunes" folder (if it still exists) and select "Delete".
    Open the "Common Files" folder.
    Open the "Apple" folder.
Right-click on the "Apple Application Support" folder (if it still exists) and select "Delete".
Empty your recycle bin and restart the PC.
After the PC restarts, don't open any applications. Disconnect from your network and/or the internet. Now disable all your security software (firewall, antivirus, antispyware).
Now start the iTunes reinstall by doubleclicking on the iTunesSetup.exe file you downloaded earlier.
Reenable all security software prior to reconnecting to your network and/or the internet.
Did that install seem to go through okay? If so, does your iTunes launch properly this time?

  • Two questions about the new iWeb

    Hi
I've got two questions about the new iWeb.
    1. Is it possible to blog online now? Meaning adding a new blog entry without having to be on your own Mac? This is a feature I've been waiting for since iWeb first was released.
    2. Is it possible to choose the format of images? Earlier editions had the option to "optimize" images but that meant it changed it into .png meaning the site got a lot heavier than if .jpg was used. And since I have relatives who still only have an isdn connection I need to be able to have the website as light as possible.
    thanks

Ah well... thanks for the quick answer

  • Can't install Itunes 9.2 "Newer Version of Quicktime"

I got a new itouch last week. Worked fine. Then went to update software to new OS (maybe Apple could have put this on a brand new one instead of older OS?!). Message said i needed Itunes 9.2. Went to update and got error "newer version of quicktime installed" and that i can't update since iTunes needs Quicktime. Tried several approaches, no luck. Deleted Itunes for a fresh start and then this wiped the Itouch clean which i had not at all intended. But, despite this exact same error message. I have been working on this and have used various uninstallers and searched the registry, cleaned temp folders, compressed and defragmented the hard drive. Downloaded Chrome, tried manually installing Itunes using Apple Software update, etc etc etc etc etc. Same message. Do i need to wipe the hard drive? Does anyone from Apple have any idea what to do? All message boards i have seen indicate that they do not.

That one has gotten complicated ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on June 25.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for *at least version 3.0* of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install CleanUp"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any QuickTime entries and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?
(If you do find a clean download site for the correct version of CleanUp, please don't tell me where it is. Without wishing to sound paranoid (although I grant it does sound paranoid), there is a non-zero chance that posting links to download locations for the utility here at Discussions leads to that download location being shut down.)

  • The installer thinks a newer version of QuickTime exists.

I tried to upgrade to iTunes 7.6, but I couldn't, so I tried installing it manually. I uninstalled iTunes and QuickTime, but when I went to install iTunes I got the following error message. "A newer version of QuickTime is already installed. This installation cannot proceed while the newer version of QuickTime is installed." I am running Vista. Any help would be great. Just keep in mind that I am not very computer smart.

I now have the exact same issue. I have thoroughly cleaned any trace of Itunes or Quicktime including the Registry and still it thinks there is a version of quicktime on this pc. I was able to find an older Quicktime and Itunes 7.5 and they will install, but I didn't run it before trying to run the 7.6 version install. It continued to say a new version of Quicktime was there but its not. I don't know where they are looking to see if a version exists. They should have a way to force an install to overwrite no matter what is on a PC. Are you listening APPLE??????? Get with the rest of the software world. Guess I should go get a Zune...

  • Newer version of Quicktime (allegedly) installed

    Hi All,
Can anyone give me an idiots guide set of instructions to solve this problem? When I try to re-install my iTunes, I get the message that I have a newer version of Quicktime installed but I have wiped (as well as I can) any trace of quicktime from my laptop. I know this involves downloading msicuu".exe (?) but where to get it from and what to do with it once I have it are beyond me!
Thanks in advance to anyone who can point me in the right direction,
    Dave

Not sure what instructions you've seen so far, Dave. But here's my standard set of instructions for a quicktime.msi problem nowadays:
Unfortunately, these sorts of msi-related troubles have gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on June 25. First we need to hunt down a copy of the utility.

  • Can't install Quicktime - Error "A newer version of quicktime already..."

Hi, I have a Dell XPS running Windows Xp Media edition. Quicktime files would not play so I downloaded the newest version of Quicktime and an error comes up saying, "A newer version of quicktime is already installed. This installation of Quicktime can not proceed while the newer version is installed." I can't find a newer version on the computer and the application seems absent. Only suplimentary Quicktime files are found. Please help.
    Thanks,

    Dell XPS   Windows XP

I'm having this exact same problem. I have a Gateway running Windows XP Media Edition.
I can't run quicktime, it says it's not there. I've tried uninstalling using add/remove and it says the uninstall.log file is missing. I tried uninstalling using the QT uninstaller option in its folder, it says the uninstall.log is not there. I tried 'repair' option on the iTunes+QT installer that I downloaded. Still the same issue.
I tried the stand alone QuickTime installer and it tells me "A newer version of quicktime already exists".
I tried deleting the residual quicktime folders from my c:\program files. I tried deleting the residual QT references from my regedit. I downloaded the MS Windows Install Clean Up and looked in there--found 2 more things that could possibly be quicktime related and removed those. I tried again -- same error message.
I'm not sure what else to do. I'd really like to get Quicktime and iTunes working by Christmas so I can sync my shiney new iPod.

  • Unable to install new version of quicktime

Ive tried to install the new version of quicktime but windows tells me that "it cannot uninstall the older version
of the program". Went to add and remove and deleted the older version. No quicktime files remaining in the windows system 32 folder. Have disabled all virus, spyware and firewall programs, in fact have disabled all programs in msconfig startup tab. No quicktime folder shows in windows explorer. Show all hidden files marked. I am system admin. on my computer. Have deleted the contents of the temp folder and the trash bin. Still the same error. This also prevents me from using the newer version of itunes.

  • ITunes won't install because there is already a newer version of Quicktime

I am trying to install the new version of iTunes, but halfway through the installation process a message comes up that says there is already a newer version of Quicktime installed and iTunes cannot be updated. I tried many things like uninstalling Quicktime but this did not work. How can I get iTunes installed?

    Hello lberle
Check to see if you are up to date on iOS by going to Settings > General > Software Update and update it if it needs it. Then update Pages one that is done by going to the App Store.

  • Quicktime uninstall error "A newer version of quicktime is already..."

We have 2 new ipods and iphone. We attempted to install the newest version of itunes but when running the install I get this message: A newer version of quicktime is already installed. Sadly, my first response was to uninstall the itunes we had that was running fine (aside from a pop up message that would tell us that some of our quicktime needed updating (not exact words, but I can't replicate the error message)

I since have manually removed the quicktime folder from my program files. I have used the search feature to look for instances of quicktime and can't find anything else. I have even, at the advice of another, gone into the registry (start, regedit) and then removed quicktime folders found under apple computer. I have run "advance system care" in hopes to clean up the registry.
I am still unable install itunes and continue to get the same message when attempting to install itunes or uninstall quicktime. I need some help! (my kids are freaking out, thus so am I)

Most likely we're looking at a damaged QuickTime.msi file stuck on your system. (That contains the installation database for the previous version of QuickTime on the system.)

  • My library is empty after I downloaded a new version of quicktime

iTunes kept giving me an error message that I needed to update the version of quicktime I had and reinstall iTunes. I uninstalled and then reinstalled a newer version of quicktime (7.1) and when I pulled iTunes up again, my library was empty. I can import songs from my music and my computer but it's not my entire library.
    fix?

    further information:
when I go to open my iTunes music library or iTunes music folder, the folders are from the new version of iTunes, and they don't contain my old library (duh). are those folders gone forever?
