Question about new BIOS on Satellite L20-182

Hi :)
I've got one question: may I install new BIOS 2.20 on my Satellite L20-182 model no. PSL2XE?
If I can't, why users PSL2X can do this? Are there so many differences on both models?
Greetings and sorry for my English - I'n not the best :)

Hi,
just for explanation: the bios you mentioned is the right bios for the machine. Toshiba is not writing the full model number since there is a range of model numbers of the same model, so dont worry, they are not different. Maybe the last digit but this is not important for you.
Why I am knowing this? Because many manufacturers are doing this and I was many times confused when updating bioses from another manufacturer...

  • MSI P45 Neo (question about new bios v1.9)

    Hi!
2009-04-03 MSI releasen new BIOS v1.9 to MSI P45 Neo
Fixed: - Disabled 5V USB function under S4/S5.
Tell me plz - what that mean ? It's very recommended update or not?
    Many thanks!

If you have no problems with the BIOS Version you are currently using, there is no need to update the BIOS (and it is not recommended to do that either).

    S4 - State = Hibernation
    S5 - State = Shutdown-State
The BIOS Update should turn off the 5V power supply to the USB Ports when the system is shutdown (S5) or in Hibernation State (S4).

  • Qosmio X500-11U- Question about new BIOS update

    Hi to everyone
I need to clarify a matter, the BIOS update that was released December 2010 was the 2.90 now a new release march 2011 is named 1.40! Is this an upgrade a downgrade or a joke? Should I proceed with the newest 1.40 or stick with the old 2.90?
I forgot to mention that I own a X500-11U and thanks in advance

    Hi nick73,
On Toshiba European driver download page there are two different versions available:
    BIOS-Update 1.40-WIN for X500 PQX34E models
    BIOS-Update 2.90-WIN for X500 PQX33E models
Your model the X500-11U belongs to PQX33E series and that means only BIOS Update 2.90 is compatible and 1.40 would be the wrong version.
So its not a joke and before you search for BIOS update next time, also use the correct part number ;)

  • Question about memory upgrade on Satellite L20-181

    Hi, there
The minimum recommended memory for Windwows XP is 256 Mb and I do not understand how the company could get away selling notebook with 256 MB with built-in graphic adapter sharing the system memory.
Anyway, I want to upgrade my Toshiba and my intention is to buy additional 512 Mb memory, such as http://www.orcalogic.co.uk/asp/prodtype.asp?prodtype=20049&ft=m&st=3
Will it work properly with 768 Mb or shall I buy only the same pairs : 256+ 256, 512+ 512?
    Thank you very much.

    Hi,
You can easily change your RAM modules without invalidating your warranty. You should find the procedure well documented in your user manual (or you can download a copy of the user manual from the Toshiba web site).
The RAM modules are usually located underneath a small flap at the bottom of the notebook, and are held in place with a small clip on each side. Just release the clips and the RAM module should spring up allowing you to carefully remove it. Note that it will only fit in one way (there is a small cut-out on the bottom which aligns with a peg).
Be very careful to discharge any static electricity by earthing yourself before you touch the RAM modules, they can be easily damaged by a static discharge.

  • Can i have minipci WiFi on my Satellite L20-182?

    Hi!
I have Satellite L20-182 without wifi card but I want to install one. I have spear minipci slot but I dont know if I have aerial preinstalled. When I ve looked under the cover of minipci slot. I found 2 wires (red and black) but they seem to be connected to something. Are they wires form aerial?
If yes could somebody explain me how to install the card and what type of wifi card to buy, please?

No, its not possible to upgrade and to use a minPCI WLan card in this notebook.
If you want to use the WLan technology and the wlan connection then you have to switch to an external solution like a USB WLan stick.
There you can choose between different WLan modes like 802.11 A, B, G

  • Satellite L20-182 (PSL2XE) & 120 GB HDD upgrade

    Helo :)
I'm going to buy a new HDD and i think about 120 GB but I.m not so sure if it works in my L20-182 (PSL2XE). Users manual says:
+"Available in four sizes: 40, 60, 80 and 100 GB. Other hard disk drives may introduced in the future."+ Does any of you tried to put 120 GB? Does it work? Bios upgrade needed?
    wooytson

    Hi
The user manual said that you can use the up to 100GB HDDs for sure.
I think the bigger HDDs were not tested on this L20 notebook and it seems that we can only speculate if its possible or not.
The problem is that the BIOS support an HDD size limitation. Therefore not all HDD sizes are supported. In worst case the BIOS will not recognize the inserted HDD.
However, I think you could test it. There is a big chance that a 120GB could works properly!

  • Satellite L20-182: Recovery

    Hello,
I've been asked to recover a L20-182 from an agonal state after maybe 2 or more years of usage by my girlfriend and need to get the recovery data. What i mean is all the drivers and stuff I need to install after formatting the hdd and setting up the OS.
My computer has a recovery function that restores it to factory settings within minutes using data from a hidden partition. Is this possible with Toshiba L20-182?
    If yes, how?
If not, where can I get all the data if the backup hasn't been made or was lost or used as a make-up stuff holder or whatever?
Thanks a lot in advance ;]
    Message was edited by: bartsimpson

Older notebooks series were equipped with the Recovery CD. The new notebook generation supports the HDD recovery. This means that the image is stored on the HDD and you can restore it without the Recovery CD. But there is also an possibility to burn the Recovery image on the DVD.
However, you can also install your own Windows XP and then you could download and install also the Toshiba drivers.
Finally you could use an 3rd party software, for example Norton Ghost, to create a own image file or CD.
But the other user is right the Recovery CD can be ordered on the Toshiba website as mentioned above.

  • How to disable Toshiba TEMPRO alerts about new BIOS update

Hi just installed TEMPRO on my W8 Satellite L875 laptop, ant it's saying there's a new bios update available - (1.60-WIN) which is the same version as I've already got.?:|
    Q: how can I make this alert go-away ?
    -Tom

Thanks, but that's not quite what I had in mind ...
I would have expected tempro to examine my system & installed components, and to alert me when a new/updated driver is released. I would then install the new/updated driver, and then tempro should dismiss the alert - or perhaps I'm just not understanding how tempro works ?

  • Re: Question about RAM expansion on Satellite M60

    *RAM extention*:
What kind of memory should I buy if I want to extend it from 512MB to *2GB* or more for
*Satellite M60*-182 under Windows XP Home Editon with Service Pack 2
I mean: frequency, symbol, producer etc. to work properly?
    oczkim

    Hi,
your machine can be upgraded to a maximum main memory capacity of 2GB, which means:
to expand the memory to the maximum limit what the machine is able to, you must put 2x 1GB DDR2 S0DIMM modules with a frequency of 533Mhz in both slots of your machine.
I would suggest you the following brands: Toshiba, Kingston, OCZ

  • Satellite A30: Question about new Hard Drive

The hard drive on the above computer has failed. When formating the system hangs at 70%. When running a utility to recover the hard drive again it fails at 70%.
I am now looking at replacing the hard drive and would like to know can any 2.5" hard drive (speed/make/size) be used (non Sata).
I would have assumed it would not be a problem but there is no way of changing the settings in the Bios, does the Bios auto detect the drive when fitted?.
When fitting the hard drive can it be fitted through the access panel on the rear of the laptop or does the whole back need to be removed?
    Thanks,
    Keith.

    Hi Keith,
The hard drive on the satellite A30 is located underneath the optical drive which must be removed from its slot first. To do this just undo one screw (F5 I think) underneath the notebook and the optical drive will then be free to slide forwards.
The hard drive will then be visible secured in place by four screws (2 on each side). Remove the screws and then pull the hard drive towards the front of the notebook to disconnect it from the connector.
You will need to transfer the mounting brackets to the new hard drive which is then inserted by reversing the above procedure.
The BIOS will automatically recognise the new drive.
If you choose a drive with a higher rotaional speed than the normal 4200RPM be careful of the extra heat that will be generated. I use a 5400RPM drive in my A30 and it does tend to warm up quite nicely when the drive is being used heavily.

  • Question about newer graphic driver version for Satellite A series

    Hi!
Probably I'm not the first and last one who will ask: is there going to be any actualization for the display drivers, because the one that are on the driver-homepage of Toshiba are v8.4.0.0 form 2006 :( For example: Far Cry (1 not 2).
Nearly 2/3 of the landscape is black (when I say black, a mean BLACK). And that's not all. Timeshift wouldn't start at all (yes, I know the card will not support full graphics, but I've played games with much better graphic on my PC at home (with GeForce 5200 128MB).
Good think it was just a demo.
Can't imagine what "nice" surprise it would be if someone gives a 40-50$ for a game and finds out he can't play it because of the drivers.
Had just tried trails of some programs for 3D animation...Well, only problems :-/
Another program told me in a straight line - drivers not up do date.
Updating drivers will fix most graphical issues etc....
Thanks for the help in advance.

What Satellite model dou you have?
As Akuma said, you can try modified drivers or drivers that are not from Toshiba. But with these drivers you could get more problems as now.
As far as I know the games need a lot of power and a Satellite notebook was not made for computer games. The Qosimo series is ideal for playing games.
If you want to play games on a Satellite notebook, you should not set high quality settings in game. It runs better when you play with lower settings.

  • 8 questions from new owner of Satellite Pro L300

    Hello all forum users!
I bought a new Toshiba laptop, the Satellite Pro L300, and have until 14 January to test it - if it looks like it isn't working properly I'll return it to the store where I purchased it.
    Here's a list of questions I have:
    1. Every time I turn on the laptop or it comes out of suspended or hibernation mode, and when I turn it off, the cd/dvd drive makes a loud mechanical clunky noise.
It sounds to me like the carriage that carries the laser and optics is running into a mechanical stop.
    Is this normal?
    2. There is one hot subpixel on the display (blue) and according to the Toshiba info in the box, this is normal and is not cause for return.
Should I be concerned about this?
    3. When I run the memory test at system boot, it states that it will start windows automatically at test termination, and show me the results of the test.
It runs the test, starts Vista, but I don't see any results report.
Where do I find this report?
Is there a known problem with this test?
    4. The Toshiba utility program to perform diagnostics from within Vista does not work. Every time I run the test (PCdiag.exe) I get a Vista error message saying a fault was found in KERNEL32.dll.
Where can I get a fix for this?
I've already installed the updated files on Toshiba's web site for the 'Value Added Pack', which is where this utility is located, but still get the error message.
    5. I would like to access the bios settings at boot, but haven't found the way to do it yet.
F2 gives me a menu for memory test or normal system boot.
Esc doesn't get me into bios setup either.
There is a Toshiba bios utility I can run from Vista, and from what I see any bios firmware upgrades are also to be done through Vista.
Is there a way to access bios at boot?
    6. I would like to run XP on this system and understood that this model (Pro L300 PSLB1E) was XP compatible, and that I should be able to download all drivers from Toshiba to run on XP.
    Has anyone done this?
    7. The laptop installed and configured Vista basic when I did the first power on, but the license sticker on the bottom of the laptop has a product key for 'Vista Business OEMAct'. I was sold this laptop as having Vista Business with the option to downgrade to XP Pro. The box didn't come with any cds or dvds, and no manuals explaining how to install Vista Business.
This is enough reason to return the laptop to the store where I bought it, which is a hassle I would prefer to avoid if I can install Vista Business.
Can anyone help me understand what is happening here?
    8. Is there a way to contact technical support by email?
Thanks in advance to anybody that can answer any of the above questions!

    > 1. Every time I turn on the laptop or it comes out of suspended or hibernation mode, and when I turn it off, the cd/dvd drive makes a loud mechanical clunky noise.
My CD/DVD drives make similar noise too from time to time. Not always but sometimes. I think this appears because the drives laser lens calibrates in the right position.
    > 2. There is one hot subpixel on the display (blue) and according to the Toshiba info in the box, this is normal and is not cause for return.
Well, you need an certain amount of dead pixels to get a screen replacement
    Please check this FAQ:

    > 3. When I run the memory test at system boot, it states that it will start windows automatically at test termination, and show me the results of the test.
There is no problem. I believe you mean the memory test while POST (power on self test). If there would be a memory fault then your notebook would not boot up properly.
    > 4. The Toshiba utility program to perform diagnostics from within Vista does not work. Every time I run the test (PCdiag.exe) I get a Vista error message saying a fault was found in KERNEL32.dll.
Hmm the Value Added Package contains the PC diagnostic tool for Vista. I would recommend removing the old VAP and reinstalling the new downloaded from the page.

There is a Toshiba bios utility I can run from Vista, and from what I see any bios firmware upgrades are also to be done through Vista.
The notebook seems to use the Phoenix BIOS and therefore pressing the F2 button should enable the BIOS. Press the F2 immediately after notebook has been powered up.
    > 6. I would like to run XP on this system and understood that this model (Pro L300 PSLB1E) was XP compatible, and that I should be able to download all drivers from Toshiba to run on XP.
Such XP drivers are placed on the Toshiba European page.

Never hear that this notebook would be delivered with Vista business As far as I know this series has been preinstalled with Vista Home Premium

If you have some problems with your notebook you can contact your ASP in your country.

  • Satellite L20-182: fan doesn't work properly - one minute intervals

When I turn on the computer about twenty minutes is quiet. Than fan starts like a hurricane, slows down and stops. It lasts few seconds. The fan works in this way regularly with one minute intervals.
Is there any possibility to switch the fan on continuous work in slow motion?

    Hi.
I think that your notebook works fine. I have L20-101 which has Pentium M processor and it does the same. Usually after some period when it turns the fan on and off the fan starts to work at one slow speed. If you really want to have quieter machine and you really want that you can change settings in Bios (Thermal mode control - silent or perfomance). In performance mode processor runs at maximum possible speeds when it needs so fan behaves like yours. In silent mode, fan turns only when it really needs and for very short time. I got used to use silent mode when I do something else in the moment than sitting before my computer and I need my laptop as great calculator (MS-Excel, Rm-Win, MS - Word or 2D drawing in AutoCAD). If you need your computer for aplications that doesn't need very fast machine you can use silent mode. If you really need all power then you can switch to performance mode before booting.
I need performance mode only for watching Divx movies or converting files to PDF format (it is too slow at silent mode to convert 100 pages of text and drawings to PDF for me)

  • Question about HDD upgrade on Satellite M40X-184?

    Hello
I want to ask if there is an option to insert a new hdd in my toshiba. As far as I know there is no official support for this??
There is an access to the place where the disk is placed on the side of notebook. S
    o my question is
    1. is it possible to place a new disk (faster and bigger)
    2. is it possible without loosing warranty
    3. what disks do you suggest
    Thanks Szczepaan

    Hello Hinni
Unfortunately there is no public document about that and those information has Toshiba service partner or some independent PC and notebook service specialized for upgrade.
I can just tell you that Toshiba directly dont support hardware upgrade and I have noticed that hardware upgrade is cuts into three areas:
    - user upgrade (memory)
    - dealer upgrade (HDD)
    - service upgrade (WLAN card, BT module)
If you want to exchange the HDD alone take old out and notice all data on the sticker and talk with your local dealer if you want to buy the same but with more capacity. You can test new one and if there is some problem (not recognized by system) you can send it back any time.

  • Question about new video card from MSI - R7750-PMD1GD5/OC

    Hello Folks,
I am afraid I can't find an answer to this anywhere, so I have had to post, even though I bet that somewhere, someone has asked this question before !!!!
I changed by Base Unit PC but kept my old monitors because I like them. I run two Acer AL1917's in extended mode.
Well, thats the problem, I did with the old PC which had a graphics card with two DVI outputs and it was easy to do by using two DVI to VGA converters.
However, the new PC has in it an MSI R7750-PMD1GD5/OC which has only one DVI, one HDMI and one Display Port.
Now, I know what the DVI and HDMI Ports are but have no idea what the Display port is!
THE MAIN PROBLEM IS I CAN'T FIND A WAY TO RUN TWO VGA MONITORS IN EXTENDED MODE with these three outputs?
The monitors are VGA ONLY, so is there any way I can use this display card at all to run two vga monitors in extended mode or should I just eBay it !!!
At the moment I have swapped it out for an old Nvidia GeForce GTS 450 which works fine with two DVI's. But I was rather hoping to be able to use my new MSI card.
Is there any way I can do this please?
Many thanks for any help that anyone is able to give.
With best wishes to all for the New Year Ahead,
    Trevor
    The New box is:
    Advent
    DT2315
CPU Intel Core i7-3770 CPU at 3.4GHz Ivy Bridge
    Max CPU Speed 3900
    Memory DDR3 Dual 4x4GB (16G)
    Hard Disks Seagate 1x1TB + 2x2TB
    2 x Acer AL1917 19" Monitors. VGA connections only !!!

    Thank you very much.
On order as we speak. !!!!
All this just for those extra few miles of visibility in MS Flight Simulator X
The only two games I ever play when I have time, probably Easter now, are the aforementioned MSFS and X-Plane !!!!
    Very Sad LOL !!!
Still, we shall see. I didn't know it was as simple as a cable because I always thought vga is anologue and HDMI is Digital, n'er the twain shall mix without a converter LOL
Never mind, I love being proved wrong because it means I have learnt something more in this wonderful life
Thank you again, will report back
