Question about Oracle Client Software

Hi!
I'm going to develop a software which will access an Oracle Database somewhere on the network. This software will be developed using C++ language and will run on a Linux RedHat 7.3 machine.
Searching for APIs to connect with Oracle Database, I found OCI and OCCI, which I think will do this job. Also, in another thread in this group, I found that I have to install Oracle Client Software on the machine which will run my software. Then I came into a question: is it possible to install Oracle Client Software alone in a machine, I mean, without the entire database? If yes, how about the licenses? Do I have to have a Oracle Client License for each machine running my software or is it free for Linux?
Thanks in advance,

Is there a different client that includes the Oracle Net software as stated in the OBE ? if so, where is it ?Before V11 Oracle used to package a "Client CD" & it appears it is no longer available.

  • Questions about Oracle client upgrade

    Hello,
I have to upgrade my Oracle Client (to 9.2.0.8) on an HPUX server, in order to migrate the database to 10G in a later stage.
I read the note 1017418, but  I did not understand it well ...
It's the case of a central instance and I understand that I have to perform the step 6, but there is no usage of command SAPCAR ! just several checks !
and what about the sentence "If at a later stage the database server would be upgraded to Oracle 10.x, you would need to install the Oracle 9.2 client as described in step 5 above." ?
Have I to perform this step 5 right now ? and only this step ?
I hope that somebody in the world already made this operation successfully ...
    Please : I need help !
    Regards

    Hi,
    I'll try to explain:
The note mentions on the step 6:
<i> 6. For application servers with database instance (DB Server), if the
database server is Oracle 9.2 please do the following:</i>
On this situation you do not install physically the oracle client.
You already have the RDBS software installed ( lets say it is 9.2.0.8 as you are talking about installing oracle client 9.2.0.8 )
On the RDBMS software is already included the oracle client.
For this reason, insted of installing <u>physically</u> the client you have softlinks from the directories where the SAP kernel is looking for the client to the RDBMS software.
points <b>a</b> to <b>d</b> are cheking what I already explained.
But, the oracle client delivered by SAP contains some bugfixes, therefore you have to check that also those bugfixes are installed on the database. That is point <b>e</b>
Point <b>f</b> only tells you that is valid while you have the 9.2.0.8 software installed on the server. If you upgrade to 10g, probably you will uninstall the oracle 9i software ( about 2 Gb to be freed ) in that case you must install physically the oracle 9.2.0.8 client

  • Misc. questions about Oracles SOA software

    Hello,
I am a computer science student at the Fachhochschule Aachen in Germany and i'm writing my master thesis about serviceoriented architectures.
Amongst other products i plan to present what oracle has to offer for SOA. But i'm missing some information, which i couldn't find at the website. I hope somebody can help me with my questions:
    1) Is it correct that you only need the Application Server and the SOA Suite for a basic SOA setup? And the SOA Suite is included in the Enterprise Edition of the Application Server?
    2) The SOA Suite contains the BPEL Process Manager. I just want to know which version of BPEL this tool supports: BPEL4WS 1.0, 1.1, WS-BPEL (2.0)?
    3) In my thesis i describe several standards that help with serviceoriented architectures. I want to check if these standards are implemented and if they are, in which product, which version and how extensively? These standards are:
    - WS-Policy, WS-Adressing
    - JBI (Java Business Integration)
    - SCA/SDO (Service Component Architecture/Service Data Objects)
    - WS-CDL (Web Service Choreography Description Language)
Are there other important (open) standards i didn't mention (other than the real basic stuff, WSDL, SOAP etc)?
    4) What tools does Oracle provide for testing the services and processes?
    5) What support does Oracle provide for new customers, that are building their first SOA?
Every help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

  • How do we determine the version of the Oracle CLIENT software??

I am sure someone in a large organization has had to deal with this...
We have hundreds of machines in our environment and over the years have loaded the Oracle client software on many... So now I am looking at implementing the July set of Oracle Security patches and there are patches for the Client machines in this release...
Looking at our list, we have machines with oracle 8, 9 and 10 (and almost every subversion known to Oracle) Clients out there... and of course each of these versions and sub-version use a different patch for windows...
so the question is, is there a quick way of identify exactly what version of the software is loaded... preferably programmatically... Running SQL*Plus on each machine manually is probably not an option.
We already have software that can scan each machine identify if a specific program is loaded and it's size and maybe pull the contents... (I know there is a $ORACLE_HOME/inventory/ContentsXML/comps.xml file in 10g that might tell us what we need to know, but I don't know if it goes back to 8/8i or not...)
This would also help me plan a migration plan for some of these older clients also...
    Thanks.
    Michael

This is a little late, but may be it will help someone else in the future.
There may be an easier way, but this is what works for me.
Log into ADI. Go to the Request Center. Click the ‘tool’ icon.
It looks like a hammer and screwdriver.
On the next screen, look in the bottom left corner.
It will show the version of ADI.
    HTH,
    Mark

  • Is Oracle Client software must in Sql Server 2005 Box to connect ORACLE

We need to connect ORACLE from SqlServer 2005
    1. We would like to know is Oracle Client Software MUST needed to be installed in SqlServer 2005 to connect ORACLE.
    2. Do we have any other means?
    3. Will Oracle OLE DB Provider for Oracle help us in establishing Linked Server to ORACLE

Probably late in the day for this but
The workbench cannot handle SS2K5 directly at the moment. However as long as no new SS2K5 functionality has been used with a few tweaks this can be achieved.
    1. Firstly use the SS2K offline capture scripts to build the directories for the database(s) you want to capture.
    2 Secondly edit
    (a) SS2K_SYSLOGINS.dat and take out long SS2K5 user records
    (b) SS2K_SYSINDEXES.dat change FIRST ( forth column) to a value (say hex 1).
    (c) SS2K_SYSUSERS.dat change ROLES (sixth column) to a value (say hex 1).
This should now load into the workbench. If it does not check the error.log file in <OMWB HOME>\log.

  • Oracle client software supported on Windows 7 for Oracle 10

    Hi
I am looking for looking to upgrade the Oracle client software (not instant client) to find a version that support Windows 7. We currently use 10.2.0 On XP.
I can only find version 11g downloads but our database server is 10

I'm getting the impression Oracle intentionally does not allow older downloads even though they are still supported.
Where can I get a Oracle client software supported on Windows 7 for Oracle 10.
    thanks

I can only find version 11g downloads but our database server is 10Oracle 11 client will work just fine with a 10g database. However, 10g is currently only on "sustaining" support. You are WAAY overdue to upgrade the db.

I'm getting the impression Oracle intentionally does not allow older downloads even though they are still supported. You need to look at the level of "supported" for 10g. A software company can't support old versions forever, and by limiting the download of those old versions, they limit the number of new support calls for them.

again, since you are concerned with the client software, you should just get the 11g client. It will work fine with your 10g database.
    thanks

  • A question about Oracle 1g R2 Enterprise Edition license

    Dear all,
I have a question about Oracle license and I would appreciate if you could kindly help me.
I have installed an Oracle server (11g R2 Enterprise edition) on a linux virtual machine. The pc used for this purpose
is my enterprise laptop (therefore a professional and not a personal Computer). However, I use the this Oracle Server
only for learning purpose, that is, only for running the examples in my Oracle Press books (SQL, PL/SQL and some
administration tasks) just for learning the stuff.
There is absolutely no data related to my enterprise, stored or used on this server. Whenever I want to work with my
enterprise data, I use the Oracle server of the enterprise which has of course the appropriate license. So as I said, I
use this Enterprise server on the virtual machine only for running queries/programs in my Oracle Press books just for
learning and I'm the sole person who uses this server (no remote connection for other users).
The reason for which I needed to install this server on my PC was that our DBA couldn't provide a training environment
for me with all required privileges and functionalities.
Am I supposed to buy a license for this installed Enterprise server on my virtual machine?
    Thanks in advance,
    Dariyoosh

  • Question about  SAP client setting when create new connection in CR2008

    Dear All,
I have a question about SAP client setting in Crystal Report 2008 when I try to create a new connection use SAP OpenSQL(SAP Table,Cluster,or Function).
I have a SAP IDES environment with 5 clients.
While I try to create a CR standard report use SAP OpenSQL, I entered 800 into Client field in u201CUser logon credentialsu201D. The connection can be created and I can get table list. After I built a report ,I can not get data from IDES client 800, but I can get data from client 000.
I am sure client 800 has data.I checked client 800 table with Tcord se16.
I also did other tests and felt confused a lot.
Even inexistent client, such as u201C00u201Dand u201C8000u201D can be used for creating connection.
I just want to know how can I get data from client 800.
    Thanks for your kindly help!
    Wayne

    Dear Ingo,
    Thanks for your reply!
I am not sure about your suggestion clearly. What's your mean all the authorizations to use CR?
Maybe I should clarify my operations.
I logon CR2008 as administrator and created two SAP connections with different client.
There is a table named "/BEV3/CHBALLG" be showed in these connections.
I checked  clients "000" and "800" both have data in the table.
I can use client 000 connection create report and get right data, but the report base on client 800 connection could not get data.
If change to another table, such as "/SAPDMC/LSOFIL", I can get data both form these connections.
I found one thing is very weird. Client "00" and "8000" do not exist in my IDES environment, but I can use them for creating connection.
May I have your further suggestions?

    1. No. The stripe size always equals 128 KB in any configuration.
(http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e18951/asmcon.htm#BABCGDBF)That is not a true statement. Please read the document, the stripe size depends upon what method of striping we using (fine-grained or coarse-grained)
    --from the same oracle document:
To stripe data, Oracle ASM separates files into stripes and spreads data evenly across all of the disks in a disk group. The fine-grained stripe size always equals 128 KB in any configuration; this provides lower I/O latency for small I/O operations. The coarse-grained stripe size is always equal to the AU size (not the data extent size).
--are we using fine grained or coarse-grained ? and how to change the striping method (using TEMPLATES)

  • Anyone installed the Oracle client software on MBP?

    Hi there,
I'm running into problems installing the Oracle 10g client software (not the server) on my macbook Pro (Intel)
The instant client installs fine, but it doesn't have the tools I need (sqlldr, imp, exp). During the install the installer gives me a java UnsatifiedLinkError.
Any thoughts? Sorry if I've missed a previous thread on this, but searches turned up nothing.

So do u mean if we have SQLPLUS on the box, it implies that client tools are installed ?
and the SQLPLUS.exe is the one that indicates the existance of client tools on a box and this has to be present on the box to say that the clinet tools are installed.
Can we have client tools on the box with out SQLPLUS.?

    Hi,
i have download oracle 10.2.0.5 patch set on the Oracle server..
i have a Oracle client machine with oracle 10.2.0.4 client.
Can i install the same patch in the Oracle client machine?

    Hi,
Ok let me explain in detail
First there will not be any separate client patchset or client software and you need apply the server patchset to client
    what will happen?
Only client related components will be upgraded.

  • VERY Basic Questions about Oracle eBusiness - what "languages" are used?

Please forgive the very basic nature of this post- (I have been in systems (IT) for over 20 years, so I do have lots of systems experience, but no exposure to this particular software.)
So here are the basic questions - I assume that much of the data base logic is written in PL/SQL, but what other tools / languages are the applications written in?
(Oracle Forms, Oracle Reports, Java, C, something else?)
With over 20 years and experience with a number of other packages, I can learn a great deal about an application by 1. Looking at the DB structures (charts), 2. looking into DB code (Packages, triggers, procedure, functions) and 3. Seeing the screen shots.
None of my customers have had Oracle eBusiness - that have had home grown applications or other COTS/packages.
can anyone suggest a place where an independent person can inexpensively get some exposure?
My sincere thanks for any answers/suggestions.
