Question about Originals folders

im currently running iphoto 5.0.4, and in a few days my ilife09 will arrive and ill upgrade to that. until then, im trying to get as firm of a hold on how to operate iphoto as i can, with using what i have.
my question is, what is the point of these Originals folders im seeing? what do they do what are they for?

Note - iPhoto is a database and it depends on the content AND structure of the iPhoto library - any changes made to it may corrupt the library and cause you to lose data
In iPhoto '09 the iPhoto library is a UNIX style package and with Leopard there are many safe ways to access your photos - going directly into the library is not one of them - there simply are no user serviceable parts in the iPhoto library
The iPhoto library contains many elements - the originals folder contains the original photos, the modified folder the modified photos for any photo that have been edited, the data folder the thumbnails for display

There should be no difference in functionality for these two kinds of folders. You can perform all the operations on these two kinds of folders without any difference, for example, delivery messages, create view settings/rules and etc.

I-photo questions about originals

Firstly apologies if this is too many questions in one post but my wi-fi is acting up.
1. how can I view exactly how much space my originals are taking up and how much space the modified folder takes up on my hard drive i.e. how many Gigs in total?
2. If I'm in i-Photo and I click on photos under library I see all my photos BUT where I have editted some I can obviously see two photos - one as the file name under it the other doesn't have anything under it - which one is the modified one, how do i tell?
3. If I go into events the pictures that are in my events, are they originals or modified
OK I think those are my questions for now - thanks again for all your help - I've had this macbook for nearly 2 years now but have only just started using it - so any help is greatly appreciated.

There is a way to determine the size of the Originals and Modified folders. Open the iPhoto LIbrary package as in this screenshot , select those folders individually and use the Get Info feature to determine the size.
*WARNING: Do not move, rename any folder or file while you're in the package via the Finder. Doing so will damage the library causing you to lose all of the organizational effort you have put into it.*
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

Questions about hiding folders

Hi, I am trying to a hide a folder and have some questions. First of all, all my contents are backed up by google drive in a folder titled "Google Drive". Second, I am trying to hide it with the command string "chflags hidden ~/Google Drive/" However, I'm getting the response:
chflags: /Users/(OMITTED)/Google: No such file or directory
chflags: Drive/: No such file or directory
So my questions are:
1. The file "Google Drive" is in my home directory so it is there but it says Google can not be located. I'm guessing this is because of the space right? If so, how do I do this correctly?
2. Once the folder is hidden, would folders within Google Drive also be hidden if they are shown as shortcuts in Finder?

I am doing it in Terminal. So the proper dictation is:
chflags hidden ~/Google\Drive/
Is that correct?

Question about photo folders

I have some photo folders on the Touch, but once they are on, how do you delete them if you need/want to?

Currently you can't delete photos or photo albums directly from the iPod Touch.
If you want to delete an entire photo album, you'll have to connect your iPod to the computer and uncheck the correspondent photo folder.
If you want to delete certain photos from a photo album, you'll have to delete or take out those pictures from the folder on your computer.

Really simple question about Outlook folders that I cannot effectily google an answer for.

If I create custom folders in Outlook, (Example: Budget, Meeting Minutes, etc.) is there any functional difference in having these folders placed under my Inbox, vs. under my top level mailbox side by side with Sent Items, Deleted Items, etc?

Question about viewing folders

Guys,
I was wondering how to view a folder in list view and make all the other windows open the same way. I recently came from Windows and I know there was a setting that would "apply to all folders". Does OS X have something like that? Also, if I have a folder that has pictures in it, is there a way to view it so it shows the thumbsnails of it instead of importing all them into iPhoto? As far as seeing thumbnails, I prefer to use Column View. Column View will show thumbnails for any image files, it will display a preview of PDF documents, and it will even allow you to play audio and video directly in the Finder window; very cool!
Also, it is very easy to simply drag-select several image files at once in column view. Having done so, you can Control-Click (or right-click) on your selection and choose "Slideshow" from the contextual menu. This is one of the coolest capabilities of OS X, to view a full-screen slideshow from the Finder, with the option to "tile" all the pictures, or to add a single pic to your iPhoto library with the click of your mouse.
Give these options a try, and let us know how you like them.

I transferred my Itunes library to an external hard drive everything seems to be working fine except I went to delete my Itunes library from my computer hard drive and I see folders that are different from the ones in the new location (external HD) Is it safe to delete those?

You used the data. Verizon can not see what it was sued for. However your phone can see whats apps used the data. go to settings-data usage- there will be a place that says data usage cycle. line the dates up with your cycle. then there will be a bar graph below that extend bother white bars one all the way to the left and one all the way to the right. after those are extended below that will be a list of apps, there should be one that used over 2 gb and that will show you what app used that data in her purse

When I record several takes and they form a Take Folder, the original track is at the bottom of the group of takes and take 1 is above that. Take 2 is above that. Earlier today I was workling with takes and they were listed in the other order. Not a huge issue but is there a way of organising takes so that they progress down the screen in the order they were recorded?

- Always have the Translations which u can do wtih SE63 tocde and have them within a specific transport request (Recomended Transport of Copies) .
Now u release the TR of translation then everything wil work fine .
Ensure always Translations TR is younger than Development TR withrespect to their creation and Releases ....

Question about Sharing folders over network

Alright, i have a mac and a PC, on the same network. I have a folder on my PC thats shared, and i can access it via the network tab in finder. The network icon thingy appears on the desktop, and it acts like a folder on my mac. Is there anyway i can move this "folder" to another location? Also, when i restart my mac, i have to conncet to the same folder again via the network tab. Is there anyway to have the folder stay there, even when restart my mac?

Create an alias or a symbolic link would be the normal manner so you can access a folder/directory from another location.
Can't help on the log-in automatically but perhaps SharePoints or something will let you. Do you use Samba to connect?

Questions about User folders

I keep filling my internal HD and am looking for ways to create more space. The particular set of files that interests me is the computername.sparsebundle file. This file is 261 GB of my 300 GB HD. The file path is Users> .computername (folder) > .computername.sparspebundle > bands (folder) > series of files with alphanumeric designations. If that doesn't make sense, here's a link to the WhatSize screenshot of the file path.

as baltwo says this means you have filevault turned on. the sparse bundle you are looking at is the encrypted sparse bundle with your home directory. don't try to delete it.

A lot of questions about my MacBook Air

I am really new to re-using Apple computers.The last time I used an Apple computer was back in 1987 when the school and my family had Apple IIGS computers. I have been using PC's which reqiure Microsoft. I a lot of have questions (10 questions) about my MacBook Air and I hope you good people can and will help me.
Product: MacBook Air
Operating System: Mac OS X Version 10.7.4
1) I Downloaded MacKeeper because I was fooled. I had a bad feeling just before I Downloaded it and I should have listened to my heart. However, I didn't buy it or fully Install it. It was like a test run and then they wanted me to pay almost $100 for it. Thankfully, I didn't because I read it is Malware. I spoke with an Apple Tech at Apple Care and he helped me get rid of it (or so we think). I don't see it anymore on my computer. I read it can slow down your computer. How can you tell if it's really off of the computer?
2) When I open "Finder" and I see that there are people Sharing my computer with me. I went into AirDrop and it reads, "Other people can see your Mac as (my name) MacBook Air when their computer is nearby." I bought a HotSpot and while it's turned on and I selected it as my WI-FI connection I thought it would get rid of these people, protect what I type, me, my items, computer, etc. But it didn't.
I didn't know that I have to buy a exteral CD and/or DVD Player in order to connect to the brand new Modem and Router in one by NetGear. I am so used to PCs and the CD/DVD Players being built inside.
The people at Apple Store told me that there is an internal modem inside, but I don't know how to find it and what to do then. Should I use a Firewall?, An AntiVirus, AntiMalware, AntiSpyware, etc. Apple Care tech told me I don't need to get an AntiVirus.
3) Is there a new kind of Wireless Modem and Router that doesn't require a CD-ROM?
4) When I travel or fly and I am not close to home I was told by Best Buy and Sprint that I had to buy a mobile HotSpot to use the computer (WI-FI) safely. As I typed, I have one. But it's pretty expensive and only gives me 1 hour and 15 minutes per day to Stream. What can I do to use this computer safely Online when I am out of range from a Modem and Router? What do people do when they travel on airplanes?
5) This compter won't let me use "Raid." I think you have to have a newer version. I hard about Raid on the radio from Leo (can't recall his last name) who's a Tech expert.
6) Should I buy a ZipDrive? Apple Store Tech told me that I didn't need a ZipDrive. I just remember the episode of HBO's "Sex and The City" when Carrie looses everything because her copy crashed. Now, of course, I know that's a fictional show, but with PC's and Microsoft I have lost everything when it crashed, frooze up, etc. I know there's iClouds. I heard about Carbonite, but I have read the Pros and Cons about it. Mostly they are Cons about it. I just don't want to do anything wrong and mess up this computer.
7) Should I buy a new Printer/Copier/Scanner because mine is an HP. It's not new, but it works. I even have a CD-ROM for Macs. What about the new product called, "Neat"?
8) Is there a special product that I should buy to do Online Banking and/or other important stuff?
9) I saw and read about iWork in the Apps Store and it sounds cool. I still have alot of friends and colleagues who still use Microsoft. Is iWork good to use? Should I Download it from the Apple Apps Store or can a buy it at Apple? Is there another Word Processing Program that is great and user friendly and will work with Macs and PCs?
10) Should I Update the OS with OS X Mountian Lion Pro from the Apple Apps Store or buy it at Apple Store?

1) Here are instructions for removing MacKeeper. Since it mostly consists of manually looking for folders and specific files, if you follow the instructions you either fail to find what you are told to find (because your AppleCare guide gave you complete instructions which you followed) or you'll find some additional files that need to be replaced.
2 & 3) I assume you are looking at the sidebar of a Finder window and seeing Shared and computers under it. Those are computers that you can potentionally share. To do so you'd need an account on their computer and a password. They are not sharing your computer.
AirDrop allows you to create an adhoc network for filesharing and it only functions when you have selected the AirDop item in the SideBar. Actually doing that merely announces to computers in the same network node that your computer is available for a file to be sent to. Even then you have to explicitly allow the file to be downloaded to your computer. Similarly you'd be able to see other computers with AirDrop selected and be able to send them a file - which they'd have to accept.
The only reason your NetGear Router comes with a CD is to install and run their 'easy' step by step configuration program. It can also be done manually with a browser. Read the manual to find the IP address you must enter to access the router's configuration menu. Apple's WiFi routers don't require a CD to install the software because the configuration software is already on your computer.
I do have my firewall turned on. AntiVirus software isn't a bad idea - I use Sophos having tested it for a review for our local User Group and I found I liked it better than ClamAVx which is what I'd been using before. Both are free.
4) I think you were scammed by Sprint and BestBuy. I use hotel, coffee shop, and restaurant WiFi spots and have for years. However, because they can be unsecured, I do not shop online or bank when I'm using them. I also use 1Password and don't reuse passwords so even if a sniffer should grab an account and password that's all it would get - one account.
5) Raid doesn't really make sense with a MacBook Air - a RAID involves 2 or more disks being used as if they were one.
6) Zip drive? No. External hard drive - yes. It isn't a question of if a computer's hard drive will malfunction, it is when. OWC has a nice selection of external drives and the Mac has a built in backup system called TimeMachine. Due to the way TimeMachine works, I've found that your TimeMachine drive should be at least twice as large - and preferably 3-4 times as large as the data you are backing up.
7) if your printer works and it has Mountain Lion drivers, why replace it?
8) Online banking is done with a browser - Use Safari or FireFox
9) If trading files with Windows users is important Mac: Office is your best bet. If not, iWork, Mac:Office, or LibreOffice are all good possibilities.
10) you can only buy Mt Lion via the App Store.

While I was testing I can copy objects (materials, documents) and paste them in same or different folders (within same or different collaborations). But they donu2019t have any relationship whatsoever even if after copy they have the same name.
2. Am I correct to say that during Copy of Materials, BOMs, Documents etc the u2018Alias information of backend sytemu2019 is lost. Is there a way to prevent this.
3. How to perform cut and paste a object from one folder to another folder (in same or different collaboration) without loosing backend Alias information.
4. When I am importing or exporting Materials and BOMs, it is Automatically creating one new version for material, and in case of BOM is creating 2 new versions (both look exactly the same). Is this Standard ?. If this is Standard, how do I do BOM comparison, how will I know which versions to compare

No, it does not exist.

Not sure about this one. But I guess you tested it out, and logically it also makes sens, since the Alias information is used in backend integration.

Yes, this is standard for the initial BOM export, actually in order to directly see the delta if someone updates version 2 on cFolders. If you re-export later, only one new version is added.

I see. I think this is a bug, worth an error message.

The BOM import also creates plant data / storage view for component materials in case you have a plant assigned to the newly created material on cFolders. So your statement is wrong. Verified in the system. Plant-specific BOM import works perfectly also with new component materials added.

Questions about mac mini iTunes server, streaming to macbook pro, ipads, etc.

I'm thinking about getting a mac mini to work with my NAS as a iTunes server. I have a bunch of questions about this. I will have two iPhones, a few iPads, and a laptop that will be accessing the files. I have iTunes match. This is basically to keep an always on computer for hosting the music/movies. My questions are as follows . . .
#1 Are there any good, comprehensive guides to show you how to do this?
#2 Can the movies be accessed when not at home on the shared network?
#3 Can the iPads or the macbook pro download the shared movies to be stored locally?
#4 Back to #3, how will it work on my macbook pro with listening to music (I have iTunes match)? Say i go to library and I break out my macbook pro and I don't have internet. What happens if I download music while at home onto my macbook pro to listen to it when I go to the library? Will i start a new library on my macbook pro? How will that mesh with the home server when I come back.
#5 Is there a way to mirror files or folders? So something that I have on my macbook pro will also mirror on the home server.

I want to extend the monitor wirelessly to a projector. I thought about using Apple TV and Airplay. However, support for airplay is for MacBooks 2011 and newer. I thought of using a PS3 and the media server, but I think this brings on a format compatibility issue. (my library is so large I could not afford to convert all my movies to MP4.) So, how would you recommend I put my extended monitor with VLC player onto a projector?
Could I possibly connect the MBP to a Mac Mini as an extension? would this work natively? I would rather use a VGA cord than F with 3rd party app BS.
