Question about parallels desktop

Hello!
I have a little problem with my Parallels Desktop. I have installed a windows xp operating system with parallels desktop, but the virtual video card's memory is only 256Mb. In Mac OS X i have 2 video cards. One with 256Mb memory and one with 512Mb memory. Maybe can you help me how to solve this problem? Thanks in advance!:)

Hi Tojas;
I would certainly hope that if you told the folks at Parallels that you were interested enough in their code to try a demo but that you were having problems with it that they would help you.
I would start at this site

  • Question about Parallels and ATI Radeon 5770

Ok, so I have a Mac Pro 3,1 here. I'm upgrading it to 16GB and two 7200 RPM 3TB drives which I'll run in Raid 0.
It has an ATI 2600HD with 256MB VRAM.  This card has two DVI ports.
I just purchased an ATI Radeon 5770.  I will use it with two Cinema Displays (DVI connections).
To connect the second display, I have the Apple Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter at Firmware 1.03.
    My question concerns Parallels 8.
My Windows 7 VM will be a heavy-use VM so I want snappy performance.  I was planning to dedicate 8GB RAM, half my CPU cores to it, and 512MB VRAM on the 5770.
What I was wondering about was the possibility of leaving in the 2600 HD and using its GPU to support my Parallels VM.  Is that feasible?  Practical?
    Thanks

Dump the 2600XT (put it on the shelf, don't use it)
Install Windows natively first, then you can use it both ways, natively and dual boot, plus in a VM when that works.
Another option is 10.8.2 supports more Nvidia cards and more then the 1GB.
Don't use green 3TB in an array.

  • Question on Parallels Desktop 8?

I'm about to get a 13'' Macbook Pro Retina for college and the place I'm getting it from is throwing in Parallels Desktop 8 for free (pretty good deal!) I'm planning to use it mainly to run some of the games I have on my PC and some other things here and there.
After seeing the ridiculous amount of different kinds of Windows packs (I'm looking at Windows 7/8) there are for sale, I'm thoroughly confused over what kind of pack and bit I'm supposed to get to install with Parallels, or are they all actually the same...?
For instance, I managed to get a student discount for a Windows 8 Pro Upgrade that makes it cheap, but I have no clue if that'll work on a Mac in the slightest...
To you guys running Parallels 8, which Windows OS did you get for it?

As you haven't got Windows installed, you have to buy a System Builder version of Windows 8. If you buy an upgrade version, you won't be using it legally. You can buy the System Builder version at NewEgg or Amazon. Make sure you don't buy a OEM version from manufacturers.
Also, to run games, it's better to install Windows in Boot Camp, so you will get the best performance of your MacBook > http://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp
Your Mac supports both 64-bit Windows 7 and 8 versions, and as Clinton said, Windows 7 is much more friendly if you don't like the Modern UI

  • Questions about Remote Desktop?

I didnt see a link to a "Remote Desktop" forum, so I posted here hoping to get a couple of questions answered.
Im going to sweeping and installing the new OS to 12+ 3yo Macbooks, and have a barrage of software that needs to be installed on all the machines. To include: Snow Leopard, iWork 09, iLife 09, Remote Desktop, Deep Freeze, and CS3. All the software was purchased thru the Education site, for the use on multiple Macs on the same network.
Essentially we're trying to optimize the process of loading software individually on each machine, and want to possibly make a CLONE of 1 Macbook that we will install all software, set System Preferences with Guest Accounts and Parental Controls, for our Mac Computer Lab, that we run at our Carrer/Technical School.
We want to make it seemless with Remote Desktop, Account Privleges, and parental controls to be able to not only monitor but to make the computers SUPER STABLE to handle the students and their sometimes improper use of the computers
QUESTION: After reading up on the new Remote Desktop and its Auto Install features....is this a tool that would help obtain our goals quicker that installing all the software on each computer indivudually.
Right now, we were going to sweep, install new OS, and software on one machine. Using SuperDuper or something comprable to make a cloned copy of the HD, and using the clone to boot and run each computer with the exact settings, software and preferences that we intially set on the first computer
DOES ANY OF THIS SOUND DOABLE THRU REMOTE DESKTOP AUTO INSTALL?
DOES THE ROUTE WE PLAN ON TAKING SOUND LIKE A SOLID PLAN TO ACCOMPLISH OUR GOAL?
If you answered yes to anyone of those, if you can give any insight on what you know or have done in the past that might help would be GREATLY APPRECIATED
    Thanks for your time

You can't install Snow Leopard Remotely. Think about it.
What you could do - and assuming you have OSX Server - is install 10.6 on one mac, get it fully up to date, install the remaining applications - assuming site licenses - use the System Image Utility on the Server (or a Client with the application installed) to create a NetBoot Image of that built workstation. Image the rest using OSX Server's NetBoot Service. I've done numerous site installations using OSX Server and NetBoot (60 and more individual workstations) in a day or two depending on the Software installed.
Not surprisingly there is a dedicated forum for this also:

+" . . . is this a tool that would help obtain our goals quicker that installing all the software on each computer individually."+
Apart from the initial OS install - Yes. You can install incremental OS Updates using ARD easily and quickly. Again if you have OSX Server you can utilise it's Software Update Service to achieve the same thing quickly and easily.
If you don't have OSX Server you can by all means do this the way you're saying. You don't even need to use SuperDuper - why pay for something that can be done for free with what's already supplied? All you need is a firewire cable, target disk mode and the Restore option in Disk Utility. The more firewire cables you have the sooner you'll get it done.
It does not really matter what you're using for your Network although a Time Machine Capsule is adequate enough.

  • A Few Questions About Parallels 5 and Windows 7

    Hey guys!
So, I am taking a computer programming class that requires Windows, just so we can all be on the same screen at the same time (lame, I know). Anywho, I have a Mac, so my teacher provided me with a log-in to MSDNAA, to get Windows 7 for free, and he gave me Parallels 5.0 for free as well. (go community colleges!)
    A few questions:
1- I am running Snow Leopard right now on my 2009 MacBook Pro, and my processor is the 64-bit processor, but after running the command uname -a I discovered that my Kernal is loading in the 32-bit mode. Is this normal? Shouldn't it be running in 64-bit mode?
    2- Which Windows 7 should I get, the x64 or x86 (32-bit or 64-bit)?
    Thanks for any/all help!

  • Question about Parallels using Bootcamp partition

I was about to install XP on bootcamp but i would mainly be using parallels to run XP from the bootcamp partition. What i was wondering is that if i was to make any changes to xp like install a software and create a new folder through parallels, would it reflect on the actual bootcamp partition when i load into the actual XP partition using bootcamp? Basically, do the changes made to windows using parallels carry over to the bootcamp partition given you are using the bootcamp partition on parallels?
    Thanks

Thanks a lot. While i am at it, if i use the bootcamp partition with Parallels, i cannot suspend the VM right?
Parallels will behave the same, whether it has its own copy of Windows, or is using that on the Boot Camp partition.
The only difference is backup. If you use Parallels with Windows in a disk image file (Preferably a sparse bundle), Windows can be backed up with Time Machine. If Windows is on its own partition, Time Machine can't handle it.

  • KDE4 - Questions about the desktop and multiple monitors.

    Hi,
I'm giving KDE4 a try and find it pretty good so far. I do have a few questions though.  I have two monitors running off an Nvidia card.
First question concerns the top  of the screens. There seems to be an empty 'panel(?)' at the top of each screen.  All that's in it is a grayed out cashew for the widgets.  Unfortunately I can't move any window into the area covered by that bar or panel. Is there a setting somewhere I should change or is there a way to get rid of the top 'panels'?
The next concerns other desktops. What happens is that when I switch to desktop 2 my right-most screen goes black. It loses the wallpaper. I can move windows on to it and it performs ok. It's just weird that it's black. Again, is there a setting somewhere? Currently my xorg.conf is set up to use twinview. Should I try xinerama?
I have a directory called Desktop in my home dir. I have a few ".desktop" files in it. These are displayed on the screen in a large rectangle labeled "Desktop".  However, when I tell KDE4 to display one of the standard menu items on the desktop it places them outside this rectangle. Is there a way to control this behavior and also to control the size of the rectangle?
Lastly, my "panel" or taskbar only appears on the left screen. Is there a way to spread it across both???
    Thanks in advance.

appel wrote:You can simply create another panel on the other screen, then add configure panel settings widget to it.  Once done, right click and configure panel and select 'only show apps on this monitor on this panel'.
Doesnt work on my second screen. When I right-click, I get the menu but when I select 'add panel' nothing happens.

  • Question about Parallel Query

Currently running Oracle 8.1.7.3 on 32 CPU HP box. I'm doing some data analysis and ran in to some inconsistencies on what columns parallel query works on. For most columns it kicks off all the threads(ora_pxxx) but on a few of the columns, it will only run 1 thread. These queries run full table scans.
    Example SQL:
    Select /* parallel (column1, 10) */ column1
    from table1
I can't seem to find much documentation on parallel queries.

sorry. correction on the SQL format:
    Select /*+ parallel(tb1, 20)*/ column1
    from table1 tb1

  • Question about PARALLEL hint

the documentation says that PARALLEL hint can by used in select statements like PARALLEL(emp 8). I have also seen syntaxes like PARALLEL, PARALLEL 8, PARALLEL(8), and in each case the steps in execution plans were the same but the cost assigned was a bit different between each version (but significantly lower than for a query without this hint).
    how does oracle interpret above three syntaxes, ie. /*+ PARALLEL */, /*+ PARALLEL 8 */, /*+ PARALLEL(8) */?
are there any parts in those syntaxes that are ignored or incorporate default behaviour?
what syntax is safe to use when one doesn't want to specify the table being parallelized, ie. use syntax like PARALLEL(emp 8)?
    thank you

  • Question about Parallels

I already have windows vista installed on my mac via bootcamp, but i would like to install parallels so i dont have to keep restarting. Is it possible to install parallels with my bootcamp partition, or do i need to reinstall windows?

    Hi Adam,
Parallels can use a BootCamp Windows partition for creating a Parallels Virtual Machine.
Check the online documentation avaiable at their website for how-to.

  • Questions about parallel and series sturcture in SCTL (single clock timed loop) in FPGA VI

      I am using LV 8.2.
I have wriiten a FPGA VI, in this VI, there are 3 filters inside the SCTL (single clock timed loop) (I use the shift register to be the effect of unit delay). Would I save the resources of the FPGA used (such as slices and LUT) in the compliation report if I use 3 SCTL ( 1 SCTL contain 1 filter)  and cascade them in series?
      Thank you!

Sorry, I am afraid that you have misunderstood my meaning.
Here is the method you suggested before:
I mean I use the shift registers attached in the while loop, not in the SCTL. The number of shift registers used will not be decreased when we increase the number of SCTL in the second plate of the flat sequence structure.  Totally , there are 6 pairs shift registers for 3 filters (1 filter needs 2 pairs). I mean I put the calculation parts, such as b0*x[n]+b1*x[n-1]+b2*x[n-2] inside the SCTL ( the operations of multiplication and add). Instead of putting 3 filters numeric operation part in one SCTL. will we reduce the resources used if we use 1 SCTL to do the operation parts of 1 filter? As the code inside each SCTL will be reduced.
Maybe you tell me if such approach will reduce the reosources used? Or there is no difference?
      Thank you!

  • What do you think about parallels desktop? the program to work with Windows on a Mac

I have no problem, I just want to tell me if it's worth installing it, if it givesproblems or incompatibility
    thanks

when my son installed (how I don't know)  windows 7, I cant access MAC.  Its completely windows 7.
However I found out that the MBP dvd install was inside the dvd drive.  I tried to eject it but it did, so I turned computer off and at the same time right click.  The dvd ejected and the MAC is back, the windows 7 is gone.
I am not familiar with MAC so i am learning as I use it.

  • Parallels Desktop 3.0, Vista, and OS 10.6.4

I was running Vista fine with Parallels 3.0 Desktop on OS 10.5.
I recently upgraded to OS 10.6.4 and now when I try to open my Parallels session it says I cannot run it on 10.6.4, which makes sense.
My question is: If I get Parallels 5.0, is it as easy as installing this software, i.e., will my Windows Vista partition be as I left it? Or will I have to redo everything and even reinstall Vista?

Installing the upgrade will not affect your Windows system.
+For future reference you should address questions about Parallels to their tech support forum. These forums are for Apple products.+

  • Osx and xp, parallel desktop or boot camp?

    Hello
i use ESRI ArcMap on a windows computer and i'd like to get rid of this machine as soon as possible, 'cause it's really the only application i'm using on it.
unfortunately VirtualPC was too slow to use, since the GIS-application itself already used a lot of power.
so how about parallel desktop? is this emulating xp or are both os's bootet from beginning? and what about performance?
thank you so much for your help
    senex

    Hi senex
I'm not using any of the new generation of methods of running Windows and Windows apps on Macs, but I'll tell you what I know. Firstly, Boot Camp, Parallels and Crossover all only run on Intel Macs.
Boot Camp runs Windows XP on its own partition of your HD, it runs at full PC speed, so performance is no issue, and you can only be booted in Mac OS X or in Windows at any one time.
Parallels runs Windows XP in a window within OS X, so you can use both OSes at the same time. Windows XP takes a slight performance hit in Parallels, and I've seen reports that Windows apps run at about 95% of the speed you would normally expect to experience, which the majority of users find perfectly acceptable.
Crossover runs Windows apps without any need for Windows XP to be installed. It is still quite early in its development and not fast enough or sophisticated enough yet to compete with the above two solutions.
    Hope this helps.
